Margaret Athman
Margaret Athman, age 77, a resident of Lastrup, MN, died at her residence February 9, 1998.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held February 12 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Lastrup with Fr. Roger Thoennes and Fr. Al Stangl concelebrating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Margaret was born May 5, 1920 in Pierz Township, MN to Frank and Frances (Kruschek) Stangl. She attended school in Pierz. Margaret was united in marriage with Norbert J. Athman on October 7, 1940 in Pierz. The couple farmed in the Lastrup area prior to moving to Lastrup in 1978. Margaret was a member of Christian Mothers for more than 50 years. She loved quilting, card playing and bingo. Her grandchildren were very important to her.
Survivors include her husband Norbert of Lastrup; a son, Frank, and wife Mary of Pierz; daughters, Virginia Kapsner and husband Jerome, Mary Poser and husband Sev of Pierz, and Alice Bayerl and husband Bill of Menomonie, WI; sisters Elaine Kummet and Marie Pohlkamp, both of Pierz, and Evelyn Dehler of St. Cloud, MN; brothers, Richard Stangl and wife Arlene, Herman Stangl and wife Frances of Pierz, Clarence Stangl and wife Judy of Maple Plain, MN, Fr. Alfred Stangl of St. Cloud, and Alvin Stangl and wife Carol of Pierz; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Dennis Athman.
Casketbearers were Brian and Todd Stangl, Brent Kapsner, Chad Poser, Ben Bayerl and Steve Poser.

Martin Copa
Martin Copa, age 87, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died February 16, 1998, at St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held February 20 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Little Falls, with Father Leroy Kremer officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Martin was born November 14, 1910, in Pike Creek Township, MN, to Vincent and Pauline (Ringwelski) Copa. He married Veronica Schneider on June 19, 1944, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Flensburg, MN. He was a lifetime farmer in Pike Creek Township. Martin enjoyed working with horses and working on the farm. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, a township officer of Pike Creek and a member of the Northern Arizona; six grandchildren, Kristen, Vince, Amy, Kurt, Mandy and Jenny and two great-grandchildren Michael and David.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Veronica; son, Hubert; brothers, Alex and Frank and sisters, Martha Karnowski and Celia Wilczek.

Evan Wink
Evan Alexander Wink, infant son of Rodney and Janell (Preimesberger) Wink of Brainerd, MN, died March 30, 1998, at Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis, MN.
Funeral services were held April 3 at the Brenny Funeral Chapel with Father Seamus Walsh officiating. Burial was at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Brainerd.
Evan was born March 23, 1998, at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd.
Survivors include his parents, Rodney and Janell Wink; one brother, Alex at home; his maternal grandparents, James and Rosemarie Preimesberger of Roseville, MN; his maternal great-grandmother, Julia Janson of Harding, MN; his paternal grandparents, Allen and Marcia Wink of Brainerd and his paternal great-grandparents, Bill and Eva of Welcome, MN.

Carl Thornton
Carl Thornton, age 69, a resident of Vermillion, OH, with the Reverend Robert Wang officiating. Burial was at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Vermillion.
Carl was born May 22, 1928. He married Lydia Kahlhamer of Hillman, MN, on May 14, 1954.
Survivors include his wife Lydia of Vermillion; two sons C. Michael and wife Susan of Simpsonville, S.C., Brad and wife Mary Beth of Denver, N.C. and three daughters, Melanie Fowler and husband Bruce of Defiance, OH, and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Harold V. Kintop
Harold V. Kintop, age 70,a resident of Phoenix, AZ, passed away March 29, 1998, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Phoenix.
Funeral services were held April 4 at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Long Prairie, MN. Father Mark Stang officiated. Burial was at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Little Falls, MN.
Harold was born February 14, 1928, in Little Falls, to Phillip and Thelma (Stuart) Kintop. He married Bernice Myrfield, July 12, 1952, in Warren, MN. He grew up in the Little Falls area, graduating from Swanville High School. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a Greyhound Bus driver out of Milwaukee, and then worked for an over-the-road trucking company. He retired to Phoenix in 1988.
Survivors include his four children and spouses: Bruce (Sue) Kintop, Colorado Springs, CO, Sandra Winchell, Milwaukee, WI,Cynthia (Robert) Peret, Milwau-kee, WI, Gregory (Lori) Kintop, Milwaukee; his mother, Thelma Kintop, Long Prairie, MN; two brothers and three sisters: Clement Kintop, Minneapolis, MN, Dr. Gerald Kintop, Long Prairie, Phyllis Eix, Park Rapids, MN, Elaine Jacobson, Milaca, MN, Bernice Jacobson, Blaine, MN; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1986 and his ex-wife Bernice in 1993.

Robert E. Poegel
Robert E. Poegel, age 35, of Long Prairie, MN, passed away April 1, 1998, at the Long Prairie Memorial Nursing Home in Long Prairie, MN.
Funeral services were held April 4 at the American Luthern Church in Long Prairie, MN. Rev. David Sorenson officiated. Burial took place at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Long Prairie Township.
Robert was born November 27, 1962, in Long Prairie to Marvin and Betty (Wiseth) Poegel. He attended Swanville High School. After his schooling he worked for area farmers. He then went to work as a tool and die maker at Little Falls Fabricating. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, riding and working on motorcycles, fixing small engines, doing field work for farmers, and animals, especially dogs. He spent two years in the Colorado mountains working at a motel and fixing small engines. While attending school he was a member of the F.F.A. and Cub Scouts.
Survivors include his father, Marvin Poegel, of Long Prairie; mother, Betty Poegel of Royalton; step-mother, Kathy Poegel of Long Prairie; his maternal grandmother, Inez Wiseth of Little Falls, MN; brothers and sisters, Roxie (Gary) Grell of Melrose, MN, Marvin Jr. (Laurie) Poegel of Lincoln, MN, Cheryl (Howard) Hedin of Swanville, Paul (Debbie) Poegel of Little Falls, Pat (Ruth) Poegel of Burtrum, MN, Carol (Rich) Cook of Milwaukee, WI, and John Poegel of Little Falls.

Herbert Ploof
Herbert John Ploof, age 72, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died in Little Falls.
A Mass of Christian burial was held April 6, 1998, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Little Falls with Father Leroy Kremer officiating. Burial was in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery. Military rites were provided by American Legion Post #46 of Little Falls.
Herbert was born October 6, 1925, in Little Falls, to the late Herbert C. and Cecelia (Theis) Ploof. He served in the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge in 1955. He was united in marriage with Elsie Quinn on March 16, 1963. Herbert worked as a baker in Little Falls, Chisholm, Wadena and Sauk Rapids. He was a life member of the American Legion and had been a resident at Pine Grove Manor since 1987. He enjoyed reading and watching sports.
Survivors include brothers, Don and Jerry of Little Falls and Harvey of St. Cloud, MN; sisters, Ethel Johnson of Spring Hill, FL, Ione Clinansmith of Northville, MI, and Alexia Waite of Little Falls, along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jackie, Richard and Duane and a sister, Addie Vosen.
Honorary casketbearers were members of American Legion Post #46 of Little Falls.
Casketbearers were nieces and nephews of Herbert.

Frances Pint
Frances Pint, age 93, a resident of St. Otto’s Care Center, died April 4, 1998, at St. Otto’sin Little Falls, MN.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held April 6 at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Belle Prairie with Father Harold Kost officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Frances was born March 10, 1905, to Mike and Margaret Dockendorf in Lake Benton, MN. She married James L. Pint, Sr., on October 4, 1923, at Holy Family Parish in Belle Prairie. The couple moved to a farm in Ripley Township, where they farmed for 35 years. After her husband’s death in 1959, Frances continued to run the farm for several years until she went to work at the Lutheran Senior Citizens Home. In 1971 Francis purchased a home in Little Falls where she lived until 1992. She then moved into the Alverna Apartments. She lived there until 1996, when she moved to St. Otto’s Care Center. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include her two sons, James and wife Agnes of Brainerd, MN, and Gerald and wife Donna of Freedhem, MN; six daughters, Rosemary McCarthy and husband James of Apache Junction, AZ, Janet Canterbury and husband Ray of Omaha, NE, Ruby Tomberlin of Shakopee, MN, Isabell Zimbrick and husband Harley of St. Bonifacious, MN, Geraldine Rudolph and husband Jerry of Little Falls and Peggy Holsapple and husband Warren of Fort Ripley, MN; one sister, Margaret Swaser of St. Paul, MN; 27 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James; one son, Robert; three brothers; one sister; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Casketbearers were Kelly Pint, Mike McCarthy, Raymond Canterbury, Clinton Holsapple, Howard Zimbrick and Gerald Pint, Jr.
Honorary casketbearers were Naomi Rudolph, Sally Schiender, Gale Perlinger, Bernadine Venske, Lisa Retka and Brenda Isder.
Giftbearers were Jessie Nuttbrock and Tracy Pint.

Janaya Erickson
Janaya Monique Erickson, age 18, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died April 4, 1998, as a result of an automobile accident.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held April 8 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Little Falls with Father Nick Landsbergerofficiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Janaya Monique was born January 18, 1980, to William and Jean (Bachan) Erickson of Little Falls. She attended the Little Falls Community High School. She enjoyed going to school, music and art. Janaya was a member of the volleyball and softball teams, and was a member of the Honor Society.
Survivors include her parents, William and Jean (Bachan) Erickson of Little Falls; her sister, Tiffany Erickson of Rice, MN; maternal grandparents, Phyllis and Joseph Bachan of Little Falls and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Angeline and Lennart Erickson.
Casketbearers were Amanda Lashinski, Laura Sherwood, Trevor Tykwinski, Jesse and Jabeaua Bachan and John Marsolek.
Honorary casketbearers were members of the Senior Class of 1998.

Loretta Popp
Loretta (Laura) Popp, age 83, a resident of Foley, MN, died April 5, 1998, at the Foley Nursing Center, Foley.
Funeral services were held April 7 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Foley, with the Rev. Alfred Helt-emes officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Loretta Popp was born February 1, 1915, in Morrill, MN, to Dominic and Anna (Herzing) Stellmach. She married Louis Popp September 19, 1938, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Morrill. She lived on a farm near Rice, MN, until her retirement in 1976 when she moved to Foley. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Foley, Christian Mothers, Foley and St. Monica’s Society in Buckman, MN.
Survivors include her sons and daughters, Dennis of New Prague, MN, Patricia Novak of Hillman, MN, Laurel Rudnitski of New Prague and Judy Rudnitski of Foley; sisters, Clara Bonovsky of St. Cloud, MN, and Florence Lien of Phoenix, AZ; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband on October 5, 1995; brothers, Joe, Ben, Bert, Frank, Julius and Clarence; sisters, Susan Miller, Minnie Sauer, Mary Stellmach, Genevieve Schriefels, Rose Sauer and Helen Starr.
Pallbearers were Alan Novak, Barry Popp, Tom Popp, Jim Popp, Dave Rudnitski and Leon Rudnitski.
