John Jones
John Jones, age 75, a resident of Hillman, died May 16, 1998, in Osseo, MN.
Services were held May 20 gat the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hillman with Pastor Lynn Broughton officiating. Burial was in the Glen Haven Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Crystal, MN.
John was born on April 27, 1923, in Wilcoz, NE, to Annie and Monroe Jones. He attended Forest City, MO, grade and high school, and Maryville State Teachers College, Maryville, MO. He was employed as a machinist. John served in the US Army Air Force from June 1942 to September 1945. On October 3, 1945, he was united in marriage to Avis Thormodsgrad of Hudson, SD. They resided in St. Joseph, MO, Canton and Sioux Falls, SD, and Minneapolis, MN,until moving to Hillman, MN, in 1985. He was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Platte Lake and associate member of Faith Lutheran Church of Safford, AZ.
Survivors include his son Charles Rollie and wife Sharon of Osseo, MN; a daughter, Carol Nusbaum of Buffalo, MN; three grandchildren, Ingrid Nelson and her husband Tim of Buffalo, MN, Jennifer Paul of Coral Springs, FL, and Richard Case of Brooklyn Park, MN; four great-grandchildren, Amber and New York, NY, 10038.
Bud was born December 30, 1914, in Little Falls, MN. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1941 to 1945 and was a member of the American Legion in Little Falls. He went to Albuquerque as a warehouse supervisor of Pittsburgh Paint & Glass and was employed at Cardinal Fence Company from which he retired in 1980. He was P.E.R. of the Santa Fe BPOE #460 and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Survivors include sisters Violet Super, Betty Zobroski and Shirley Molde of MN; his wife of 61 years, Norma; sons, Michael, husband of Masumi of Sasebo, Japan, Bruce, husband of Linda of Albuquerque and Bradley of Northhamptonshire, England; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Nellie Molde, and sister, Mildred Pikus.
Philip Goligowski
Philip Goligowski, age 82, a resident of Cushing, MN, died May 15, 1998, at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls, MN.
Funeral services were held May 18 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Browerville, MN, with Fr. Kenneth Thielman officiating. Burial was in the Christ the King cemetery in Browerville.
Philip was born November 12, 1915, in Turtle Creek Township, Todd County, MN, to William and Minnie (Borgert) Goligowski. He married Agnes Mudek on October 7, 1972, at St. Joseph’s Church, Browerville. Philip was born and raised on the family farm and worked on the farm most of his life. After he married his wife Agnes, they moved to the Twin Cities and lived there for two years while Philip worked at a gas station. They moved back to Cushing on Big Lake and Philip worked at Camp Ripley with the maintenance crew. Philip loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and trapping.
Survivors include his wife, Agnes of Cushing; children, Terry Zanda of Cushing, Theresa Peloquin of St. Paul, MN,Verna (John) Scheiber of St. Paul, Joan Pray of Long Prairie, MN, and Ray (Sue) Zanda of Swanville, MN; brothers and sisters, Louie Goligowski of Cushing, Kathryn (Sam) Cech of Browerville,and Ed (Dori) Goligowski of Cushing;10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Gertrude.
Casketbearers were Ray Zanda, Kevin Zanda, Greg Goligowski, Don Goligowski, John Scheiber and Roger Krist.
Ryan L. Tenney
Ryan L. Tenney, age 15, a resident of Foley, MN, died May 10, 1998, at St. Hwys. 95 & 23 as a result of an auto accident.
Funeral services were May 14 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Foley. Fr. Alfred Heltemes officiated. Burial was in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Foley.
Ryan Tenney was born August 4, 1982, in Little Falls, MN, to Lance and Linda (Gohman) Tenney. He had lived in Royalton until moving to Foley in 1988. He was a freshman at Foley High School. He was very active in aggressive rollerblading, a sport he dearly loved. He also enjoyed computer games. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Foley.
Survivors include his mother, Linda of Foley; brother and sister, Dustin of Foley and Tara of Foley; grandmothers, Olivia Gohman, St. Cloud, MN; and Ramona Tenney of Sauk Rapids, MN.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lance, April 18, 1990.
Pallbearers were Dustin Tenney, Shaun Tenney, Jacob Stock, John Gohman, Michael Gohman and Jim McDonald.
Honorary pallbearers were Josh Magnuson, Eric Paulson, Jason Sens, Keith Sherk, Josh Nelson, Travis Sweeter and Jeff Adams.
Gladys Knettell
Gladys M. Knettell, age 87, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died May 20, 1998, at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls.
Funeral services were held May 22 at Peace Lutheran Church in Little Falls with Rev. Steven Josephson officiating. Burial was in St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery in Swanville, MN.
Gladys was born June 28, 1910, in Chaska, MN, to the late Fred and Anna (Schwich) Wenz. She was baptized in the Moravian Church in Chanhassen township near Chaska on July 31, 1910. In 1912, she and her family moved to a farm south of Swanville where she attended country school. Gladys was confirmed on November 27, 1927, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Swanville. On June 20, 1935, she was united in marriage to Bruno Miller. The couple made their home in Little Falls. Gladys worked for Munssingwear as a seamstress. On May 15, 1954, Gladys was united in marriage to Edward Knettel. They also resided in Little Falls. In February of 1997 Gladys and Eddie moved to the Lutheran Care Center in Little Falls, residing there until her death. The couple gave each other 44 years of unconditional love. Gladys was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Little Falls. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband, Edward of Little Falls; nephew, Merrill and wife Sondra Wenz of Minnetonka, MN, and several great-nieces and nephews and several other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Bruno Miller on July 31, 1951; son, David Miller on January 20, 1963; infant sister, Maria and brother, Everetta Wenz.
Pallbearers were Merrill and Todd Wenz.
Frank Hurrle
Frank Xavier Hurrle, age 72, a resident of Pierz, MN, formerly of Brooklyn Center, MN, died May 20, 1998, at his home on Pierz Fish Lake in Agram Township, Morrison County, MN, followinga courageous two-year battle with cancer.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held May 23 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz with the Rev. Kenneth Brenny and Rev. Tom Donaldson officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Frank was born November 7, 1925, in Buckman, Morrison County, MN, to the late Xavier and Mary (Falke) Hurrle. He grew up in Buckman Township and attended school at St. Michael’s Catholic School in Buckman. He entered the United States Navy in January of 1945 and received an honorable discharge in July of 1946. After returning from the service, Frank worked in Montana. He was united in marriage to Doris R. Wuellner on January 29, 1956, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz. Together they lived in Brooklyn Center where he worked in the plastering and drywall trade until his retirement in 1983. Following his retirement, the couple moved to their home on Pierz Fish Lake where he resided until his death. He worked as a volunteer driving the Disabled American Veterans to and from the Twin Cities and other areas, also for Social Services and Horizon Health in Pierz. He delivered Meals on Wheels, was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz and the Pierz American Legion. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, the outdoors, gardening, card playing, history, reading and traveling all 50 states with his wife Doris. He had a special love for his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Doris; son, Michael Hurrle and wife Carol of Robbinsdale, MN; daughters, Mary Bennett and husband Bryan of Brooklyn Park and Lori Simon and husband Larry of Oakdale, MN; brother, Paul Hurrle and wife Pat of Woodbury, MN; sisters, Philomine Hurrle of Minneapolis, MN, Ida Govett of St. Paul, MN, Edna Monney and husband Warren of New Brighton, MN, Adeline Thommes and husband Ernie of Little Falls, MN, and Rita Flicker and husband Gerald of Pierz; and grandchildren, Christopher, Lisa and Rachel Bennett of Brooklyn Park, Paul and Michelle Simon of Oakdale and Angela and Scott Hurrle of Robbinsdale.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Nicholas, Victor, Father Maurice, OSB, Henry, Blaise and Edward Hurrle and sisters, Helen Sitzman and Regina Zenner.
Honorary pallbearers were Ed Zeller, Leo Sitzman, Jack Michael, Gene Carver, Vern Kapus and Gary Solinger. Casketbearers were Christopher Bennett, Paul Simon, Scott Hurrle, Duane Meyer, Bruce Flicker, John Poster and Mark Flicker.
Leo Bellefeuille
Leo Sam Bellefeuille, age 82, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died May 19, 1998, at the Lutheran Care Center in Little Falls.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held May 22 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Belle Prairie, MN, with Rev. Harold J. Kost officiating. Interment was in the parish cemetery.
Leo was born on December 9, 1915, in Cloquet, Carlton County, MN, the son of the late Eugene P. and Victoria (Valley) Bellefeuille. He grew up in the Fort Ripley, MN, area. He was united in marriage to Iris O. Paquin on August 27, 1949. The couple lived on a farm in Fort Ripley Township where they farmed until retiring to the Little Falls Suburban Park in Little Falls. Leo was involved in road construction, railroad shop until 1965, and farming until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting, trapping, card playing and visiting. He was a life-long member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Belle Prairie.
Survivors include his wife, Iris Bellefeuille of Little Falls; sons, Clyde Bellefeuille and wife Mary of Fort Ripley, Curtis Bellefeuille and friend Mona of Germany and Russell Bellefeuille and wife Jenny of St. Cloud, MN; daughters, Sandra Grover and husband Don of Redding, CA, and Charlene VanDenheuvel and husband Gary of Hillman, MN; brother, Eugene Bellefeuille, Jr. and wife Joyce of Minneapolis, MN; sisters, Ella Hassing of Pierz, MN, Viola Kastner and husband Alois of Pierz and Rita Nelson and husband Melvin of Little Falls; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant granddaughter.
Honorary pallbearers were Clyde Bellefeuille, Curtis Bellefeuille, Russell Bellefeuille, Mike Stumpf, Kurt Holmgrin, Jeff Habish and Jim Towle.

Dr. George M.A. Fortier III
Dr. George M.A. Fortier III, general surgeon, age 62, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died June 1, 1998, in an airplane accident near Little Falls.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held June 5 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Little Falls with Father Nick Landsberger, Father Edward Ramacher, and Father Harold J. Kost con-celebrating. Burial was in the Calvary Cemetery.
George was born on March 16, 1936, in Little Falls, to George M.A. II and Louise C. (Ziebol) Fortier. He graduated from Little Falls High School in 1954, after which he attended the University of Minnesota. Dr. Fortier was certified by the American Board of Surgery in General Surgery and was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. G.M.A. Fortier III served as a the chairman of the Morrison County Airport Commission for over 20 years. During his tenure, and due to his persistence, the numerous recent improvements to the airport were made possible. His passion for aviation was evident in the fact he was an FAA Medical Examiner, a certified airframe and power plant mechanic with an inspection authorization, and held a commercial multi-engine instrument pilot rating. He recently successfully contracted to run the Morrison County Airport as a fixed base operator, FBO.
Survivors include his wife Patricia of Little Falls; sons, George M.A. IV and wife Sharon of Little Falls, Brett, and Zachary both at home; daughters, Kathleen Walz and husband Tom of St. Augusta, Colleen Klein and husband Jerry of St. Joseph, Patricia Billingsley and husband Dale of Yuma, AZ, Bethany and Mara Fortier, both of Minneapolis; sisters, Annette Fellbaum and husband Keith of Little Falls, Jacquiline Doty and husband Joe of Little Falls; and Louise Schweninger and husband Ron of Kenosha, WI; 12 grandchildren, Michael, Daniel and Jessica Walz, Jennifer, Russell and Brad Klein, Justin and Amanda Billingsley, George Fortier V, Nicole, Elise, and Chase Fortier.
He was preceded in death by his parents; George M.A. Fortier II in 1988, Louise Fortier in 1989; son, Charles L. Fortier in 1973.
Honorary casketbearers were grandsons, George M.A. Fortier V, Chase C. Fortier, Russell andBradley Klein, Michael and Daniel Walz, and Justin Billingsley.
Casketbearers were Rich Brenny, Frank Schrupp, Keith Fellbaum, Curt Logan, Tim Klemmetsen, and Philip Theisen.
Peggy Sue Sahr
Peggy Sue Sahr, age 43, a resident of Pierz, MN, died May 31, 1998, at her home in Granite Township, Morrison County, MN.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Hillman, MN.
Peggy S. Sahr was born December 10, 1954, in St. Cloud, Stearns County, MN, to the late Merle and Melissa (Blaisdell) Moren. She grew up in Morrill Township, MN, and attendedschool in Foley, MN. Following her schooling she did babysitting and worked at the Foley Nursing Home. Peggy was united in marriage to Dale R. Sahr on September 15, 1973, in Morrill, MN. Following their marraige, the couple lived in Hillman and later moved to Pierz,Granite Township, Morrison County, MN, where she resided until her death. Peggy most recently was employed at Pete & Joy’s Bakery in Pierz. She was a member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Hillman. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, sewing, camping, gardening and flowers.
Survivors include her husband, Dale; daughters, Kerry Kasper and husband, Joe of Pierz, Kathi Sahr of Long Prairie, MN; brothers, Jess (Sam) Moren and wife Raneyl of Pierz, George Moren and Madeline of Hillman; sisters, Mignonette Weisz and husband, John of Pierz, Linda Seppelt and husband, Neal of Pierz, Carol Kapser and husband, Bobby of Deerwood, MN; and grandchildren, Travis Kasper and Hannah Heuer.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, John Moren.
Casketbearers were Isaac Kasper, Joshua Seppelt Clint Weisz, Daryl Bujarski, Jacob Moren and Wayne Hoheisel.
Earle V. Larson
Earle V. Larson, age 82, of Eagan, MN, and Cushing, MN, passed away May 30, 1998, after a courageous battle with cancer.
A memorial service was held June 6 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Cushing.
Earle was a retired employee of Callahan Steel in Newport, and a WWII veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Florence (Carter) Larson; stepsons, Joe Schefter and Dave Carter; stepdaughter, Marcy Otto; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and, sisters, Phyllis Christopherson, Dorothy Nelson and Marjorie Erickson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Hazel Larson; brother, John; sisters, June and Sybill.
