Marvin LaValla
Marvin LaValla, age 75, a resident of Royalton, MN, died May 24, 1998, at his home.
Funeral services were May 28 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Royalton with Reverend John Ramsbacher officiating and burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Royalton.
Marvin was born on September 3, 1922, to Raymond and Ellen (McGuire) LaValla. He was united in marriage to Hazel Muncy, October 23, 1946, in Baudette, MN. Marvin was a part-time farmer and was employed at Boise Cascade in International Falls, MN, for 36 years. In 1984 he retired and moved to Royalton. He was Past Commander of Osmer J. Leigh American Legion Post 137 of Royalton, manager of the Royalton Community Center and Past President of the District Council of Aging for Morrison County. He is Past President of the Senior Citizens Club of Royalton. Marvin was the recipient of the Senior Citizen Award of Morrison County, and nominated for Senior Citizen of the State of California, in Foley from 1972 to 1986, and, most recently, in Burtrum for the past five years. He had worked as a heavy equipment operator and also had worked as a correctional officer at the reformatory in St. Cloud. He was a member of the Local 49ers Union.
Survivors include his daughters and son, Toni Bondeson of Minnetonka, MN, Robert, of Foley and Lori Woolard of Sauk Rapids, MN, and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marilyn Wroble.
Evelyn Derosier
Evelyn Rose Derosier, age 70, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died May 30, 1998, at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls.
A Mass of Christian burial was held June 2 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Belle Prairie, MN, with Father Harold J. Kost officiating. Interment was in the parish cemetery.
Evelynwas born August 5, 1927, in Morrison County, MN, to the late Michael and Emma (Ralph) Tschida. She grew up in the Freedhem, MN, area and attended school in Pierz, MN, through the eighth grade. She worked for Northwestern Bell as a telephone operator before marrying Fred Derosier on August 28, 1946, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Belle Prairie. The couple made their home in Little Falls, living in their home on Riverwood Drive for 45 years. They owned and operated a transportation business in Little Falls from 1946 until 1983. Evelyn put in many hours as the secretary for the business as well as homemaker in the home. She enjoyed sewing, traveling, fishing, the outdoors, her flowers and especially her grandchildren. She was a life member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Belle Prairie.
Survivors include her sons, Daniel Derosier and wife Barb of Little Falls and Fred Derosier, Jr., of Little Falls; daughters, Barbara Hart and husband Duane of Palmer, AK, Marcia Visneski and husband Wayne of Little Falls and Paula Kampa and husband Mike of Rice, MN; sister, Doris Jacobson of West St. Paul, MN; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Derosier on August 15, 1983; parents and son, Terry Derosier.
Honorary pallbearers were Dera Colombe, Lorraine LeMieur, Mable Sunstrom, Vivian Martha-ler, Phyllis Wiegel, Helen St. Onge and Vangie Martin.
Casketbearers were Ronald Tschida, Barry Derosier, Richard LeBlanc, Robert DeRosier, Brian DeRosier, Paul Werner and Daniel Mewhortner.
Adeline Burg
Adeline Burg, a resident of Freeport, MN, died June 3, 1998, at her home in St. Martin, MN.
Funeral services will be held June 8 at St. Martin Catholic Church in St. Martin. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Adeline Burg was born in Two Inlets, MN, to John and Anna (Dingman) Kohorst. She married John Burg on May 19, 1942, in St. Martin. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport, MN, the Christian Mothers and the Freeport Senior Citizens. She farmed in the St. Martin area with her husband for 40 years until retiring in 1985.
Survivors include children, Joseph of Avon, MN, Jack of Albany, MN, Denise Kulzer of Albany, Diane Metzger of St. Augusta, Doris Thyen of Pierz, MN, Judy Hoppe of Freeport, Tom of Richmond, MN, Gladys Mayers of Richmond, Roseanne Brutger of Paynesville, MN, and Jeff of Cold Spring, MN; 45 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Philomene Salzer of Cold Spring, Lenora Drontle of Avon and Marina Klehr of Litchfield, MN.
She was preceded in death by her husband who died August 17, 1988; one brother, Edwin, and two sisters, Sister Johnette, OSB, and Marcella Gruber.
Angeline L. Scheibel
Angeline L. Scheibel, age 95, a resident of the Foley Nursing Center, Foley, MN, formerly of Zimmerman and Ramey, died June 9, 1998, at the Center.
Funeral services were held June 13 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Morrill, MN. Fr. Thomas Olson officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Angeline Scheibel was born October 3, 1902 in Farming, MN, to John and Mary (Theuringer) Koppy. She married Christ Scheibel June 4, 1929, at Lake City, SD. She lived in Lake City until 1936 when she moved to Ramey. In 1983, the couple moved to Zimmerman and she moved to the Foley Nursing Center in 1995. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Morrill where she was a member of the Christian Mothers.
Survivors include her sons and daughters, Betty Villalta, International Falls, MN, Jim and Suzanneof Bozeman, MT, Judy and Al Acker of Zimmerman, MN, C. Gemma and Bob Ronning, Lee Summitt, MO, Faye and Rich Young of Foley, Sandy and Jerry Brummer of Zimmerman, Dan and Val of Elk River, MN; 29 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren; sisters, Veronica Nolan of Seattle, WA, Theresa Scheibel of Foley and Martha Kettler of Roseville, MN.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Christ on September 19, 1988; son, William on September 19, 1993; daughter, Ruth Dinnella, July 1, 1997; grandsons, Mark and Neal Dinnella and a son-in-law, Don Villalta.
Pallbearers were grandchildren.
Maxine Hiatt
Maxine June Hiatt, age 72, a resident of Sartell, MN, formerly of Cushing, MN, died June 9, 1998, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, MN.
Funeral services were held at the Cushing Baptist Church on June 12 with the Rev. Mark Erickson officiating. Burial was in the Cushing Union Cemetery.
Maxine was born on September 7, 1925, to the late Bert and Mable (Goumaz) Hocker in Rifle, CO. As a young girl, she moved with her family to Springfield, IL, where she grew up and attended school. She later met Marvin Hiatt and the couple were married on September 18, 1942, in Springfield. The couple moved to Cushing in 1958. Maxine worked for Mussingwear in Little Falls, MN, as a seamstress and raised four children. She retired from Mussingwear in 1977 and continued living in the Cushing area. Marvin passed away February 14, 1980. Maxine moved to the Country Manor Apartments in Sartell in January of 1998, residing there until her death. She was a member of Cushing Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing, feeding birds and spending time with her family.
Maxine is survived by her daughters, Delores Wisconsin.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Troy (Dondi) and Jason of Brainerd; two daughters, Lori and Jodi of Brainerd; three grandchildren, Codey and Chelsea Fleischhacker and Alex Bast; his mother, Florence of Brainerd; two brothers, LeRoy of Brainerd, Donald of Fort Ripley, MN; two sisters, Elizabeth Sever of Tempe, AZ,and Donna Pint of Freedhem, MN. He was preceded in death by his father.
Honorary pallbearers were Warren Holsapple, Jim Gau and Bobby Austin.
Casketbearers were Stanley Eisel, Craig Holsapple, Clinton Holsapple, Ricky Eisel, Stanley Eisel, Al Fleischhacker and Irv Zettervall.
Evelyn Benusa
Evelyn Benusa, age 75, a resident of Royalton, MN, died Sunday, May 3, at St. Gabriel’s Hospital, Little Falls, MN.
Funeral services were held May 6 at Holy Trinity Church in Royalton with Fr. Laurn Virnig officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Evelyn was born January 12, 1923, in Royalton, to the late Philip and Frances (Pintok) Warzecha. Evelyn grew up in the Royalton and Opole areas. As a young woman she traveled to California where she worked as a welder in a shipyard. She married Luke Benusa on May 19, 1948, at Immculate Conception Church in Lake Charles, LA. They resided in several places including Little Falls, Deer Lodge, MT, and Royalton for the past 30 years. Evelyn was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Royalton and was an active Christian Mother. She enjoyed her work as a home health care aide. Her hobbies included gardening, crocheting and bowling.
Survivors include husband, Luke Benusa of Little Falls; son, Gary and Jeanette and their sons, Christopher, Andrew, Michael and David of Duluth, MN;son, James and Kay with sons, Chad Bailey and wife Linda (with son Kyle), Nicholas and Nathan of Royalton; daughter, Mary and Scott Krueger with their son Isaac (and fiancée Amy) of Royalton; sisters, Bernice Wollack of Royalton, Leona Schneider of Swanville, MN, Loretta Benusa of Blaine, MN, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Elmer Warzecha.
Casketbearers were nieces and nephews.
Alpha V. Burdorf
Alpha V. Burdorf, age 83, a resident of Pierz, MN, formerly of the Watertown, MN, area, died May 3, 1998, at St. Mary’s Villa Nursing Home in Pierz, MN.
Funeral services were held at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, in Watertown Twp., with Rev. Keith H. Grimm officiating. Interment was at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery, Watertown Twp.
Alpha was born February 2, 1915, at Camden Twp., Carver County, MN, the daughter of William J. and Anna C. (Briesemeister) Zastrow. She was baptized March 14, 1915, at Zion Lutheran Church, Mayer, MN by Rev. F.W. Erthal and confirmed April 28, 1929, at Zion Lutheran Church, Mayer, by Rev. F.W. Erthal. On September 6, 1936, she married Ernest F. Burdorf at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany, MN by Rev. Theodore Rolf.
Survivors include her children and spouses, Darlene Haften of Rockford, MN, Kenneth Burdorf of Waconia, MN, Loren and Betty Burdorf of Villard, MN, Alma Ann and Larry Lease of Mora, MN, John and Sandy Burdorf of Mayer; 11 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Clarence Pawelk of Norwood Young America, MN; brothers and sisters-in-law, Wilbert and Anita Zastrow of Mayer, Linus and Lillian Zastrow of Amboy, MN; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, John Burdorf of Arlington, Marie and Harold Hecksel of Mayer; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Casketbearers were David grandsons, David Burdorf, Michael Burdorf, Cory Lease, Wayne Lease, Greg Haften, Mark Haften, Lyle Haften, Dennis Lease and Scott Lease.
