Fred B. Fiedler
Fred B. Fielder, age 91, a resident of Rice, MN, died May 4, 1998, at the St. Cloud Hospital.
Funeral services were held May 7, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Rice with the Rev. Kenneth Popp and Rev. David Maciej officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Fred Fiedler was born January 13, 1907, in Graham Township (Benton County) to Sylvester and Anna (Fuchs) Fiedler. He married Mathilda Sauer on October 24, 1939, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Rice. He lived in the Rice area his entire life. He was a farmer and a blacksmith before retiring in 1975. He was a member of Immaculate Concep-tion Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Bishop Busch Council 9138 of Rice. He was a former Rice Fire Chief and a former Sauk Rapids/Rice School Board member.
Survivors include children Fred Fiedler, Jr, of Olympia, WA, Bob and Yvonne Fiedler of Shoreview, MN, Barbara and Tom Weller of Oakdale, MN, Tim and Karen Fiedler of Waukesha, WI, Eileen and Conrad Fisher of Austin, and Ellen and Clarence Manke of Maplewood, MN; sister and brother, Veronica Voigt of Rice, and Henry Fiedler of Little Falls, MN; and 10 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mathilda on April 24, 1998; brothers, Edward, Casper, Joseph, Alphonse, Louis and Herman Fiedler; and sisters, Eleanor Fiedler, Bertha Emdeke, Regina Popp and Christine Wiener.
Casketbearers were Stephan, Aaron, Anna, and Dayna Fiedler, Cory, Matthew, and Thad Fisher, David and Amy Weller, and Isaac Manke.
Anna B. Lotzer
Anna B. Lotzer, age 89, a resident of Swanville, MN, died May 1, 1998, at the home of her nephew.
Funeral services were held May 5 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Swanville, MN, with the Rev. John Grein officiating. Burial was in the Immanuel (Culdrum) Cemetery in Culdrum Township, Morrison County, north of Swanville.
Anna Bertha Lotzer was born on July 28, 1908, in Brainerd, MN, to the late Herman and Anna (Unger) Vanselow. The family later moved to a farm in Culdrum Township in Morrison County. She attended District 60 School through the eighth grade. While working in Moorhead, MN, she met and married Gilbert Lotzer on May 1, 1928. They lived in Moorhead until Gilbert’s death in 1954. At that time, Anna returned to the family farm in Culdrum Township and remained there until moving intoSwanville in 1985 where she resided until her death. She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Swanville.
Survivors include her sisters, Emma Glaser of Puyallop, WA; Eda Christiansen and Minna Moldenhauer of Minneapolis, MN; and Gertrude Jackson and Hilda Drews of Swanville; several nieces and nephews, grandnieces and -nephews and great-grand-nieces and -nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gilbert Lotzer; half brother, Charlie and brother, Ernest.

Louis J. Smith
Louis J. Smith, 91, Grand Rapids, MN, formerly of Calumet, MN, died February 12, 1998 in the Itasca Nursing Home, Grand Rapids.
Funeral services were held February 17 in Grace Bible Chapel with the Rev. Clair Drake officiating. Burial was at the Itasca-Calvary Cemetery.
Louis was born August 11, 1906 in Browerville, MN, to George and Justina Smith. He grew up in the Randall-Little Falls, MN area. As a young man he worked in vaudeville, was a clown for Ringling Brothers, boxed professionally for a short time, and played in a dance band. He married Minnie Bellamy January 28, 1931. They moved to Grand Rapids in 1947, and to Calumet in 1957. He worked for US Steel for 30 years, retiring as Dump Boss in 1977. He loved to fish, hunt, and dance, and enjoyed his grandchildren. He was a resident at the Itasca Nursing Home for the past five years.
Survivors include four daughters: Carol Huffer of Grand Rapids, Adeline Hill of Park Rapids, MN, Shirley Stitt of Calumet, and Kathleen Smith of Grand Rapids; two sons: Dale of Cloquet, MN and David of Grand Rapids; two sisters: Loretta Hanson of Prior Lake, MN and Verena Borchardt of Brainerd, MN; 25 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie; a son Donald and a grandson Mark in 1957; a granddaughter Sharon Hill in 1978; four brothers and two sisters.
John D. Craig
John DeWitt Craig, age 79, a resident of Auburn, CA, died February 11, 1998 at his home.
A memorial Mass was celebrated February 14 at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Auburn.
Craig was a native of Garnett, KS, born September 15, 1918. He had lived in Auburn since 1988. Prior to retiring, he was a professor for 18 years at the Los Angeles Trade Tech and the College of the Desert. He also belonged to the Iron Workers Local No. 433 of Los Angeles, St. Joseph Catholic Church in Auburn and the Knights of Columbus, No. 6149.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie of Auburn; sons, John of Alta Loma, Edwin of Auburn and Ralph of Applegate; daughters, Mary Erquiuga of Fallon, NV, Martha Jenkins of Lake Forest, Theresa Grenell of Lake Almanor and Bernadette Davis of Rocklin; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was the brother-in-law of George Schilling of Fort Ripley, MN.
Neil Gammon
Neil “Bud” Gammon, age 75, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died June 7, 1998, at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls.
Funeral services were held June 9 at the First United Church in Little Falls with Pastor Mary Kay Sauter officiating. Burial was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN. Military rites were given by the VFW Post 1112.
Neil was born August 21, 1922, in Keota, IA, to Neil and Pearl (Ramge) Gammon. He graduated from high school in Minnesota Power & Light, retiring in 1981. Neil served in World War II in North Africa as a flight mechanic working on the B-25s. He enjoyed horses, motorcycling, traveling and watching softball.
Survivors include his son, Craig A. Gammon of Enumclaw, WA; daughters, Hollyce Gammon of Robbinsdale, MN, and Tracy Gammon Vogt of Baxter, MN; two brothers, Howard Gammon of Houston, Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery with Father Harold Kost officiating. Burial followed the service. Military rites were provided by VFW Post 1112.
Edwin, Jr. was born on June 12, 1936, in Little Falls to Edwin, Sr. and Josephine (Wentland) Winskowski. He attended school in Little Falls, then enlisted in the U.S. Navy January 26, 1954. He was honorably discharged June 11, 1957. Following his discharge he worked for the railroad, Hennepin Paper Co. and as a carpenter. In recent years he moved to Starbuck, MN. He loved to fish and hunt.
Survivors include his mother, Josephine Winskowski of Little Falls; son, Todd Winskowski of Minneapolis, MN; two daughters, Wendy Torseth of Minneapolis and Paula Winskowski of Montreal, GA; brother, George Winskowski of Little Falls; four sisters, Loretta Marotte of Little Falls, Marge Barnes of Little Falls, Marian Johnson of Minneapolis and Janet Swenson of Little Falls and special friend, Sharon Larson of Starbuck.
He was preceded in death by infant daughters, Susan Winskow-ski and Kristy Winskowski, and his father, Edwin Winskowski, Sr.
Olivia Walters
Olivia Walters, age 80, a resident of Brainerd, MN, died at N.C. Little Memorial Hospice in Edina June 8, 1998.
Funeral services were June 12 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Rice. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Olivia Walters was born March 25, 1918, in Benton County to Martin and Margaret (Binsfeld) Aschenbrenner. She lived in Rice from 1963 until 1973, when she moved to Brainerd. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church in Nisswa.
She is mother and mother-in-law to, Shirley and Donald O’Loughlin of Shakopee, Sharon and Thomas Murphy of Pierz, and Yvonne and Glen Trisko of Sauk Rapids, MN; brothers and sisters, Ed Aschenbrenner and Stella Johnson of Rice, Elmer Aschenbrenner, Irene Goebel, and Margie Wunderlick of Rice, and Florence Hall of Silvis, IL; nine grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Leander Aschenbrenner; and sister, Alma Aschenbrenner.
