Esther C. Johnson
Esther C. Johnson, age 89, a resident of Milaca, MN, formerly of Randall, MN, died August 9, 1998, at the Elim Home in Milaca, MN.
Funeral services were held August 13 at First Lutheran Church in Little Falls, MN, with Rev. Janeva Stromberg and Rev. Sanna Reinholtzen officiating. Burial was in the Randall Cemetery.
Esther C. Johnson was born October 28, 1908, in Parker Township and attended country school. Esther was united in marriage to Clarence R. Johnson on August 3, 1932, in Little Falls. The couple farmed in Minnesota in 1976, where they resided in Motley, MN, for 21 years before moving to Staples in August of 1997. Ruth enjoyed crafts and wood sculpturing and she traveled throughout the state displaying her work at craft fairs. She also enjoyed crocheting, quilting, gardening, fishing, drawing and painting and sign painting. Ruth was a member of the Staples Congregational Church and the VFW Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband, Howard; four sons, Robin (Carol) Olsen of Toledo, TX, Reggie (Robbie) Olson of Coon Rapids, MN, and Kevin (Penny) Olsen of Staples; two daughters, Jodi (Lauren) Ellison of International Falls, MN, and Kim (Jeff) Koppes of Staples; sister, Janice Kuene of Delta, CO; five brothers, Edwin Harder of Federal Way, WA, Bryan Harder of Craig, CO, Norman Harder of Colorado, James Harder of Los Lomas, NM, and Jack Harder of Goodwill, OK; 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and four sisters.
Beulah D. (Buth) Rodger
Beulah Rodger, 92, a resident of Minneapolis, MN, died July 26, 1998, surrounded by her family.
Interment was at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery on July 30.
Beulah was born July 30, 1905, in Little Falls, MN, to James Peter Larson and Elvina (Nelson) Larson.
Survivors include daughters Jeannine (N. Clifford) Wold, Britton, SD, Michelle (Darrel) Thelen, McAllen, Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery.
George W. Reynolds was born December, 14, 1918, in Akeley, MN, to the late Andrew and Florence (Alcott) Reynolds. George lived in various locations with his family throughout childhood. He entered the U.S. Army in February of 1941 and served until October of 1945. George re-enlisted in 1950 and was discharged the same year. After being discharged from the Army, he enlisted in the National Guard and served from 1950 until 1960. George worked for the Swift Co. in St. Paul from 1950 until 1955. George lived with hisfamily in Little Falls from 1950 until 1982 when he retired from Clark Oil. He also wanted at Camp Ripley as a custodian in the Armory. George moved to St. Cloud in 1982 where he resided until his death. George enjoyed fishing, painting crafts, and being a foster grandparent.
Survivors include his son, David and wife, Arlys of St. Cloud; daughters, Sharon Schwandt of Little Falls, and Edna Williams of Little Falls; brothers, Fredrick Buchholz, Clifford Reynolds, Dale Reynolds and France Reynolds; sisters, Nellie Brown, Betty Perkins, Fern Miller, Norma Gillory, Helen Henry, Cora Cole and Irene Knight; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant twin daughters; son, Daniel Stanley; three infant brothers; brother, Chester Reynolds; sisters, Zella Wilkinson and Florence Buchholz.
Casketbearers were nieces and nephews.
Bernard J. Vasecka
Bernard J. Vasecka, age 86, a resident of Little Falls, MN, formerly of Staples, MN, died August 10, 1998, at St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held August 13 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Staples with Father Lauren Germann officiating. Interment was in Evergreen Hills Cemetery.
Bernard James Vasecka was born on May 26, 1912, in Cass County, MN, the only child of the late James and Mary (Kaveney) Vasecka. He grew up on a farm near Staples. He attended Sacred Heart grade school and graduated from Staples High School in 1930. After his graduation, Bernard farmed with his father on the family farm near Staples. He was united in marriage to Hazel Buckingham on May 3, 1941, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Park Rapids, MN. The couple made their home on the family farm where they farmed. Bernard also was employed by Benson Optical in Staples for ten years until his retirement in 1978. In 1980, the couple purchased a home closer to Staples and lived there until their move to Little Falls in 1994. Bernard’s hobbies were mowing grass which he did at the Terrace Golf Course, golfing, dancing, reading and spending time with his family. He was a former member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Staples and was currently a member at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Little Falls. He was also a former member of the Terrace Golf Club.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Hazel Vasecka of Little Falls; daughters, Peggy Martin and husband Charlie of Little Falls, and Deb Schey and husband Chuck of Nisswa, MN; and grandchildren, Gina Madzo, Jennifer Retka, Maria, Paul and Matthew Martin.
He was preceded in death by his infant son, Bernard, and daughter, Patricia Madzo.
Honorary pallbearers were Gerald Steele and Ken Richardson and other co-workers at Benson Optical.
Casketbearers were Leland Webster, Duane Imsande, Paul Martin, Matthew Martin, Ronald Steele, and Mark Larson.
Dorothy Trepanier
Dorothy Trepanier, age 85, a resident of Watertown, MN, formerly of Pierz, MN, died June 29, 1998, at Elim Nursing Home in Watertown.
Funeral services were held July 2 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Little Falls, MN, with Father Nick Landsberger officiating. Burial will be in the Harlingen, TX, next to her husband.
Dorothy was born in Hugo, MN, on October 19, 1912, to Michael and Elizabeth (Thein) Steiner. She was united in marriage with Arthur Trepanier on June 20, 1938, in Northwood, IA.
Survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth Trepanier of Watertown, and Renee Trepanier and husband Steve Tschida of Little Falls; step-son, Arthur Trepanier, Jr., and wife LaVonne of Casper, WY; sister, Bette Turner of West St. Paul; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur; sons, James and Ronald; brother, Michael Steiner; sisters, Louise Carlson, Anne DeLonais, Nell Holmes and Catherine Steiner; and a grandson, Steven Trepanier.
Casketbearers were Nolan, David, and Art Trepanier, Jr., Gabe and Steve Tschida, and Ted Holmes.
John E. Burski
John E. Burski, age 66, a resident of Rice, MN, died June 29, 1998, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Sauk Rapids, MN.
Services were held July 2 at Shepherd of the Pines Lutheran Church in Rice. Rev. Aaron Asmus officiated. Burial, with full military honors provided by the Rice American Legion Post #473, was in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Sauk Rapids.
John E. Burski was born October 31, 1931, in Sauk Rapids, MN, to John Henry and Doris (Wittstock) Burski. He served his country in the United States Army from 1952-1954. He married Joann Poganski on February 4, 1956, in Trinity Lutheran Church in Sauk Rapids. He lived most of his life in the Sauk Rapids/Rice area. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for Cecil’s Construction and later for Landwehr Heavy Moving, retiring in 1994. He was a member of Shepherd of the Pines Lutheran Church in Rice, Rice Senior Citizens, where he served as president, and the Rice American Legion Post #473.
Survivors include his wife, Joann of Rice; children and their spouses, John R. Burski of St. Cloud, Janna and Gary Skroch of Rice, Jeanne and Barry Anderson of St. Cloud, James and Aimee Burski of Hoffman, and Joel and Sandra Burski of Rice; brothers, Ralph Burski of Rice and Dennis Burski of Sauk Rapids; and ten grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant brothers, Ronald and Donald; two granddaughters, Katie Skroch and Teresa Anderson.
