Lt. Gen. James G. Sieben
Lt. Gen. James G. Sieben, age 74, died November 9, 1998, at St. Joseph Hospice in St. Paul from complications of cancer.
Funeral services were held November 11, 1998, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hastings, MN.
A 43-year veteran of the U.S. Army and the Minnesota National Guard for 13 years. He retired from that position, and the National Guard, in 1988. “He was truly the epitome of a soldier, a patriot and a public servant,” said Maj. Gen. Eugene Andreotti, Adjutant General for the Minnesota. He was awarded the Silver Star twice for gallantry in combat during his tour. He left the Army in 1945, and returned home to Minnesota National Guard. In 1851, Sieben was activated and served for two years during the Korean War. He returned home and to the National Guard. During his years in the National Guard, Lt. Gen. Sieben served as a company commander, as well as a staff officer at the battalion, brigade and division levels. He was also Commander, 1st Brigade, 47th Infantry Division and in May, 1975 was appointed as the adjutant general by Gov. Wendell Anderson. Besides the Silver Stars, decorations Lt. Gen. Sieben received included: the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Norwegian Order of St. Olaf, the Swedish Distinguished Service Medal as well as the Minnesota Medal for Merit and the Minnesota Air National Guard.
Corrine Krueger
Corrine Krueger, age 67, a resident of Rice, MN, died November 9, 1998, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, MN.
A memorial service was held November 13 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Royalton, MN, with Pastor John Ramsbacher officiating.
Corrine was born November 28, 1930, to Romain and Agnes (Schafer) Hawley in St. Cloud. She was raised in St. Cloud where she attended school, graduating from St. Cloud Tech in 1949. Corrine was a longtime resident of the Rice, MN, area. She was a Royalton American Legion Auxiliary member. Corrine loved to read and liked science fiction movies.
Survivors include her husband, Jerome Krueger of Rice; sons, Steve Krueger and wife Mary Jane of Royalton; Rick Krueger and wife Linda of Long Prairie, MN, and Randy Krueger and wife Cindy of Little Falls, MN; daughters, Sharon Nordstrom and husband Joel of Cedar, MN, and Jette Simpson and husband Loren of Elk River, MN; mother, Agnes Fischer of St. Cloud; brother, John Fischer of St. Cloud; sisters, Lois Salmon of Minneapolis, MN, and Susan Hagen of Phoenix, AZ, and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Roman Hawley and stepmother, Mary Hawley.
Linda Bailey
Mrs. Chad Linda (Krueger) Bailey, age 30, a resident of Royalton, MN, died peacefully November 10, 1998, at the St. Cloud Hospital, after a courageous battle with breast cancer.
Funeral services were held November 14 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Royalton, with Pastor John Ramsbacher officiating. Burial was at Riverside Cemetery in Royalton.
Linda was born September 11, 1968, to Vernon and Joanne (Mead) Krueger in St. Cloud, MN. She attended and graduated from Royalton High School. She attended St. Cloud State University and Hennepin County Vocational Technical Institute. Linda was united in marriage to Chad Bailey on December 9, 1995, in Royalton. She worked for Fingerhut for 10 years. Linda was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Her warmth and smile touched the lives of many.
Survivors include her son, Kyle of Royalton; husband, Chad of Royalton; parents, Vernon and Joanne Krueger of Royalton; sister, Barb Guck and husband Mike of Lakeville, MN; brothers, Tom Krueger and wife Julie of Burnsville, MN, and Greg Krueger and wife Kathy of Staples, MN; niece, Samantha Guck; nephews, Derek Krueger and Ryan Guck; grandmother, Johanna Antil of Sauk Rapids, MN; mother and father-in-law, Kay and Jim Benusa of Royalton; aunts and uncles; cousins and many good friends.
She was preceded in death by grandparents, Henry and Bertha Krueger and Roy Antil.
Casketbearers were Scott, Gary, Steve, Shannon, Mark and Jim Krueger.
Alvina Poser
Alvina Poser, age 77, a resident of Pierz, MN, died November 6, 1998 at her residence in Pierz.
Mass of Christian Burial was held November 9 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz with Father Ken Brenny officiating. Burial was at St. Joseph’s Parish cemetery.
Alvina was born on June 24, 1921, to John and Regina (Schubert) Hoffman in Lastrup, MN. Alvina was united in marriage to Clemens Poser on September 30, 1944 in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz. They farmed west of Pierz for 38 years and moved to the city on October 5, 1981. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, quilting, and crocheting. Alvina was a member of St. Joseph’s Christian Mothers.
Survivors include her husband, Clemens, of Pierz; seven children, Sylvia Barrett and husband Warren (Wallie) of Baxter, MN, Wanda Lundblad and husband Arlin of Pierz, Valerie Matlock and husband Gary of Pierz, Katherine Otremba and husband Mark of Brainerd, MN, Anthony Poser and wife Peggy of Richfield, MN, Marianne Poser of Brainerd, and Lerald Poser of Bloomington, MN; 20 grandchildren; brother Alex Hoffman of Duluth, and three sisters, Florence Weiss of Pierz, Johanna Roberts of Brainerd, and Pauline Sonnenberg of Brainerd.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers and two sisters.
Casketbearers were Matthew Lundblad, Galen Matlock, Dale Otremba, Dennis Otremba, Brian Otremba and Bethanny Barrett.
Honorary casketbearers were Alice Matlock, Elvira Stumpf, Julie Langer, Lou Stangl, Linda Welle, Adeline Henry, Mary Ann Perleberg, Gertrude Przybilla and Dorothy A. Schraut.
Esther G. Feltmann
Esther G. Feltmann, age 84, a resident of Motley, MN, died November 10, 1998, at the Greater Staples Hospital.
Funeral services were held November 13 at the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples, MN, with Reverend Orie Schrock officiating. Burial followed in the Swan Valley Cemetery.
Esther Grace Feltmann was born on October 17, 1914, in McLeod County, MN, to the late Fred and Freida (Litzau) Dittmer. She grew up and went to school in the Glencoe, MN area. She did housework and farm work in Glencoe and McLeod and Carver counties. She lived in Milaca for a few years and then moved to Motley in 1980. Esther enjoyed photography and gardening.
Survivors include two brothers, Elmer Dittmer of Austin, MN, and Alfred Dittmer of Glencoe, MN; and three half-brothers, Henry Redepenning, Jr., of Pennsyl-vania, and Wilbert Redepenning and Raymond Redepenning, both of Norwood, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.
Shirley Ann Harkin
Shirley Ann Harkin, age 70, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died November 11, 1998, at her home in Little Falls.
A Mass of Christian Burialwas held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on November 14, with Rev. Nicholas Landsberger officiating. Burial took place at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN, on November 16.
Shirley Ann Harkin was born October 15, 1928, in Redwood County to the late Henry and Elna (Benson) Hoffbeck. She grew up and attended school in Morgan, MN. After her schooling she worked as a telephone operator and in a bakery in Morgan. She was united in marriage to John Harkin on April 12, 1950, in Morgan. The couple moved to Plankinton, SD, where they resided until 1966. In 1966 the couple moved to Little Falls, where Shirley was employed by Uncle Tom’s Bar from 1966 until 1968. She then went to work for the Red Bull Bar from 1968 until October, 1998. Shirley was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the V.F.W. Auxiliary Cooties. She enjoyed traveling, talking, reading and spending time with her children.
Survivors include her sons, David and wife Kathy Harkin of Elk Point, SD, Steven Harkin of Little Falls, James and wife Rhonda Harkin of Little Falls, Kelly Harkin of Minneapolis, MN, and Michael Harkin of San Francisco, CA; daughters, Patricia Callies of Madison, SD, Mary Kay Harkin of Dairyland, WI; brothers, Harlan and wife Cece Hoffbeck of Custer, WI, Robert Hoffbeck of Stevens Point, WI; grandchildren, Eric, Heather and Troy Harkin, Kirk and Tony Callies, Renee, Amanda and John Dolney, Hannah and Daniel Harkin, and Anthony Seelen.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, John.
Honorary pallbearers were the V.F. W. Auxiliary.
Pallbearers were Eric, Troy and Heather Harkin, Tony and Kirk Callies and Renee Dolney.
Michael Killeaney
Michael John Killeaney, age 31, a resident of Fort Ripley, MN, died November 14, 1998, from injuries received in an automobile accident.
Mass of Christian Burial was held November 17 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Belle Prairie, MN, with Rev. Harold J. Kost officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Michael J. Killeaney was born July 2, 1967, in St. Cloud, MN, to Larry and Jeanette Killeaney of Little Falls, MN. Michael attended school in Randall and graduated from Little Falls High School in 1985. After graduation Michael attended St. Cloud State University and St. Cloud Vocational School,receiving his diploma in instrumnentations. Michael was united in marriage to Jilleen Hopwood on September 24, 1988, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Little Falls. The couple resided in Little Falls from 1988 until 1996 at which time they moved to Crow Wing Lake, Fort Ripley, residing there until his death. Michael was employed by Coborn’s, Inc. from 1984-1987, Crestliner from 1987-1991 and Hennepin Paper Company from 1991 - 1995. He was employed currently with Honeywell Measurex Potlatch in Brainerd, MN as a technical representative. Michael enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, playing pool, golfing and most of all doing theseactivities with his sons, Shawn and Trevor.
Survivors include his wife Jilleen Killeaney of Fort Ripley; sons Shawn and Trevor Killeaney of Fort Ripley; parents Larry and Jeanette Killeaney of Little Falls; brother Brian and wife Renee Killeaney of Prior Lake, MN; grandmother Peggy Yourczek of Little Falls; mother and father-in-law Manvel and Marlene Hopwood of Royalton, MN; brother-in-law Doug Hopwood of Dent, MN; sister-in-law Dalona Goebel and husband Matt of Fargo, ND; niece Brittany Goebel; nephews Patrick and Bob Killeaney and Tyler Goebel; special family, Tom, Pat, Troy, Jason, Kelly and Julie Schoenberg of St. Cloud, MN.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Alex Yourczek, Bill and Gertrude Killeaney and uncle Bill Prozinski.
Pallbearers were Wayne Stoner, Mike Waltman, Keith Stoner, Matt Goebel, Doug Hopwood, Jim Nuehring, Jason Schoenberg and Troy Schoenberg.
Eleanor Tornes
Eleanor Tornes, age 80, formerly of Little Falls, died November 13, 1998, at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls, MN.
Funeral services were held November 16 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, with Reverend Tim Bauer officiating. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.
Eleanor Amanda Tornes was born January 15, 1918, in Spruce Grove Township, Beltrami County, MN, to the late Peter and Agnes (Ronne) Tornes. Eleanor attended rural school in Beltrami County, and high school in Thief River Falls, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1936. Following high school, she attended teacher’s training for a year in Thief River Falls and received her Bachelor’s Degree from Bemidji State College in Bemidji, MN. Eleanor also did graduate work at St. Cloud University. She taught at rural schools in Beltrami County, Roseau Public School from 1948-1956 and Little Falls Community School from 1956-1980. Eleanor returned to Thief River Falls in 1980. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Golden Years Group, the Sons of Norway, and Northland Retired Teachers Association.
Survivors include one brother, Norman Tornes of Coal Valley, IL; three nephews, Gary Tornes of Appleton, WI, Steve Tornes of Colorado Springs, CO, and Ralph Tornes of Coal Valley; five nieces, Sandra Tornes of International Falls, MN, Debra Leon of Atlanta, GA, Cindy Cherne of Webster, NY, Melody Ball of Kenora, Ontario, Canada, and Linda Barton of Sherrard, IL; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Tornes of Coal Valley and Grace Tornes of International Falls; her good neighbor and friend, Lawrence Brooten of Thief River Falls; and several grand- nieces and -nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Harold Tornes and Palmer Tornes; and onesister-in-law, Katie Tornes.
Lawrence Wasner
Lawrence M. Wasner, age 67, a resident of Rice, MN, died November 16, 1998, at the St. Cloud Hospital, St. Cloud, MN.
Funeral services were held November 19 at the Dingmann Family Funeral Chapel in Sauk Rapids, MN. Burial was in Langola Cemetery, Rice.
Lawrence Wasner was born July 5, 1931, in St. Cloud to Mathias and Justina (Reisinger) Wasner. He married Minnie Diddens on November 21, 1953, in St. Joseph, MN. He had lived in Rice since 1962. Prior to that he lived in Sartell, MN. He farmed from 1954-1998. He was a former member of Rice American Legion Post 473. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Germany for one year.
Survivors include his wife, Minnie of Rice; children, Ronald and Diane Wasner of Westmoreland, TN, Jeanette and Duane Beto of Little Falls, MN, Roger Wasner of Rice, David and Ann Wasner of Rice and Linda Fussy and her special friend Terry of Foley, MN; sister and brothers, Caroline Roering of St. Joseph, Hubert of Holdingford, MN, and Sylvester of Rice; half sister, Mary Schneider of Waite Park, MN; half brother, Celestine Pierskalla of Cold Spring, MN, and 17 grandchildren.
Herbert G. Beseman
Herbert G. “Herb” Beseman, age 74, a resident of Swanville, MN, died November 13, 1998, at his home.
Funeral services were held November 16 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Swanville with Rev. John O. Grein officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Herb Beseman was born April 1, 1924, in Culdrum Township, Morrison County, MN, to the late Charles and Mary (Rahn) Beseman. He grew up and attended country school in Culdrum Township. He graduated from the Swanville High school in 1942 and began farming. Herb was united in marriage to Annice M. Dreckman in 1950 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Swanville. The couple farmed in Culdrum Township for 11 years. In 1961, they moved to Upsala where Herb worked as a technician for Consolidated Breeders Service. In 1965, they returned to the Swanville area where Herb worked at Conoco Oil until retiring due to health problems in 1973. The couple has resided in Swanville Township since 1970. Herb enjoyed deer hunting and had not missed deer season for 54 years. He also enjoyed pheasant and duckhunting, fishing, traveling and watching all sports. Herb was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and the Swanville Sportsman’s Club.
Survivors include his wife, Annice M. Beseman; daughter, Kathy Hartwig and husband Wayne of Swanville; brother, Lloyd Beseman and wife June of Swanville; sisters, Eleanor Olson of Swanville and Angie Olson of Deer River, MN; three grandchildren, Cari, Brian and Laura Hartwig, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Willie and Ervin Beseman.
Pallbearers were Tom and John Beseman, Doug Welinski, Troy, Jon, Ed and Randy Olson.
