Stanley Holtslander, Jr.
Stanley Edward Holtslander, Jr., age 49, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died January 27, 1999, at his home.
Funeral services were held January 30 at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls with Rev. Richard Celley of First United Church in Little Falls officiating. Interment was in Oakland Cemetery in Little Falls with military rites conducted by the Little Falls American Legion Post 46.
Stanley was born August 4, 1949, in Little Falls to Stanley and Claire (Schuman) Holtslander. He grew up in the Little Falls area and attended school in Little Falls. In 1967, he began working at Hennepin Paper in Little Falls. he joined the U.S. Army on March 18, 1969, and was honorably discharged on March 17, 1971, and then served in the National Guard. He then went back to work at Hennepin Paper where he worked until its closing in January 1999. Stanley also did carpentry work for many people. He enjoyed helping others and was always doing that when not working. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and four-wheeling. He was especially fond of and enjoyed his children and grandchildren. Stanley was a member of the Little Falls American Legion Post 46.
Survivors include his father, Stanley E. Holtslander, Sr., of Little Falls; son, Chad Holtslander of Duluth, MN; daughter, Carey Holtslander and friend, Curt McDougle of Little Falls; brothers, Loyd Holtslander and wife Roxanne of Little Falls and David Holtslander and wife Brenda of Clear Lake, MN; sisters, Diane Cameron and friend John Hawkins of Little Falls, Janice Doschka and husband Lawrence of Randall, MN, Susan Holtslander of Little Falls, Debbie Kraus and husband Steve of McHenry and Robin Quick and husband Michael of McHenry, IL, and grandchildren, Bryon and Ethan Holtslander.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Claire Holtslander and granddaughter, Bethany Holtslander.
Pallbearers were Jason, Jamie and Bubba Dickmann, Kenny Wimmer, Josh and Jere Holtslander, Billy Cameron, Steve Kraus, Jr., David Virgin and Eric Lindholm.
Douglas Gish
Douglas E. Gish, age 68, a resident of Swanville, MN, died January 31, 1999, at St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls, MN.
Funeral services were held February 3 at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls with Rev. Roland Jennings officiating. Interment was in Bearhead Cemetery in Pillsbury, MN.
Douglas was born August 2, 1930, in Minneapolis, MN, to the late Arthur and Minnie (Knoff) Gish. He grew up in Owatonna, MN, and Grey Eagle, MN. He was united in marriage to Nancy E. McDowell on August 1, 1953, at Grace Lutheran Church in St. Paul, MN. Following their marriage, the couple made their home in Fridley, MN. Douglas worked for the Minneapolis Star Tribune for 27 years as a circulation manager. In 1978, the couple moved to rural Swanville. Douglas owned and operated Gish’s Bait & Tackle Shop in Osakis, MN. Nancy died August 24, 1989, and Douglas continued living near Swanville. Douglas also worked for the Little Falls Wal-Mart store since its opening. He became a resident of St. Otto’s Care Center January 14, 1999, where he resided at the time of his death.
Survivors include son, Jeffrey Gish and friend Andrea Carson of Swanville; non-biological children, Roy and Dawn McPherson of Anoka, MN; brother, Russell Gish and wife Carol of Grand Rapids, MI; sister, Dorothy Paulson of Riverside, CA, and grandchildren, Derek Gish of Alexandria, MN, Private Linnea Gish of Maryland and Jennifer Gish of Winona, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Minnie Gish and wife, Nancy E. (McDowell) Gish.
Delbert Stewart
Delbert T. Stewart, age 68, a resident of Monticello, MN, and formerly of Foley, MN, died January 29, 1999, at his home.
Funeral services were held February 2 at Foley Funeral Home, Foley, with Deacon Fred Reker officiating. Burial was in the St. Louis Catholic Cemetery, Foreston, MN. Military rites were provided by the Foley American Legion.
Delbert was born May 1, 1930, in Granite Ledge Township, rural Benton County, MN, to Raymond and Margaret (Duhin) Stewart. He had lived in the St. Cloud, MN, and Little Falls, MN,area and had lived in Foley before moving to Monticello 10 years ago. He was a U.S. Marine Veteran during the Korean Conflict. He had worked as a custodian.
Survivors include his sons and daughter, Delbert “Mickey” of St. Paul, MN, Sharon Bitzer of Monticello and Troy and Amy of Pine City, MN; brother, Jerry of Coon Rapids, MN, and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Raymond and brothers, George and John.
Pallbearers were Dan Stewart, Greg Stewart, Doug Stewart, Russ Stewart, Chuck Stewart and Donny Stewart.
Eva Pusc
Eva M. Pusc, age 95, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died January 30, 1999, at her home in Little Falls.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at Holy Family Catholic Church in Belle Prairie, MN, on February 2. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Eva was born April 15, 1903, in Ripley Township to the late Adam and Lillie (Dreher) Kohl. She grew up and attended School District 108 in Ripley Township through the eighth grade. Her mother passed away when she was 15, leaving Eva to take care of her younger sisters and brothers until the age of 19. Eva moved to Minneapolis, MN, and worked at St. Mary’s Hospital for a few years. She was united in marriage to Herman D. Pusc on November 17, 1926, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Belle Prairie, MN. The couple farmed in Fort Ripley Township. Herman passed away January 7, 1980. Eva moved to Little Falls where she resided until her death. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Belle Prairie. She enjoyed crocheting, braiding rugs, playing cards, gardening and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her daughter, Sharon Rakow and husband Dale of Pierz, MN; brother, Harry Kohl and wife Dorothy of Fort Ripley, MN; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Herman January 7, 1980; son, Dalles Pusc December 11, 1981; brothers, Emil, Clifford, Clarence, Gervis and Edward Kohl; sisters, Ella Tomberlin, Helen Schlicting, Germaine Rausch; infant brother Adam Kohl and infant sisters, Ida and Rose Kohl.
Pallbearers were Neil Rakow, Kevin Rakow, Corey Rakow, Chris Pusc, Larry Pusc, Leroy Pusc and Latha Rakow.
Evelyn Branson
Evelyn C. Branson, age 78, died at Edina Heritage Nursing Home on January 13, 1999.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held January 16 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Minneapolis, MN, with Rev. Father Steven O’Gara officiating. Interment was at Lakewood Cemetery.
Evelyn was born December 1, 1920, in Lastrup, MN, to Bernard and Katherine (Ellering) Athmann. She went to Minneapolis at age 16 to do housework and waitressing. She married Oscar Branson May 1, 1945. He passed away November 28, 1982.
Survivors includeher children, Eileen Bunn, Michael (Linda), David, Kenneth (Dawn), Carol and Warren Wehmes; seven grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Irene Gaebel and Norbert Gaebel, both of Lastrup, Edward of Pierz, Bernard of Little Falls and Bernadine Loidolt of Pierz and Alice Poser of Milwaukee, WI.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Irwin, Cel, Virgil, Victor and Alex and her sister, Marie Banach.
Casketbearers were Michael, David and Ken Branson, Warren and Chris Wehmas, John Bunn and Marvin Loidolt.
Loretta Heath
Loretta Heath, age 86, a recent resident of Plymouth, MN, and longtime resident of Little Falls, MN, died January 30, 1999, in Plymouth.
Private services were held February 3 with Father Harold Kost officiating.
Loretta was born August 28, 1912, to Joseph and Anna (Muehlbauer) Wegertseder in Little Falls. Loretta was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Church in Little Falls. After her graduation from high school in 1929, she felt lucky to find employment with Northwestern Bell Telephone Company where she worked for many years, both as a switchboard operator and service representative. She was a member of the Communication Workers of America, Telephone Pioneers and WWI Women’s Auxiliary. She loved quiet days on the North Shore of Lake Superior, listening to classical music on MPR in her beloved home, enjoying nature in her yard and surrounding countryside, and watching the Vikings.
Survivors include her daughter, Gretchen Heath of Plymouth; godson, Martin (Jack) Thommes of Ashland, OR, along with her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; parents, Anna and Joseph; sisters, Anna, Helen and Isabel and brother, Joe Wegertseder.
Edith Spoo
Edith Mae Spoo, age 78, a resident of Litchfield, MN, died January 25, 1999, at her residence in Litchfield.
Funeral services were held January 28 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Litchfield with Reverend Anthony Bertram officiating. Interment was at Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield.
Edith was born February 4, 1920, in Judith Gap, MT, to Weldon M. and Myrtle G. (Horkey) Yaple. She attended school at Medford, OR, but after the death of her parents when she was 15, she moved with her brother to Sequim, WA, where she graduated in 1939. Edith married Henry E. Spoo in Arcata, CA, on January 21, 1940. Together they lived in Arcata until 1942 when they moved to Estherville, IA. In 1957 they moved to Upsala, MN, where they lived until Henry retired. After retiring in 1981, they moved to Sauk Centre, MN, until 1996 when they moved to Litchfield where they lived at the present time. Edith was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, participating in the quilting and church circles, the Lutheran Women Missionary League and the church women’s Bible study.
Survivors include her husband, Henry; two daughters, Linda Spoo and Judy Spoo, both of Litchfield; one son, Gerald Spoo and wife Sherry of Elk River, MN; one grandson, Shawn of Elk River; two granddaughters, Tammy Spoo of St. Francis, MN, and Heather Spoo of Elk River; one brother, Glenn Yaple of Klamath Falls, OR; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and -nephews and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Weldon and Myrtle Yaple; five brothers, Lawrence, Vern, Harold, James and Walter and one sister, Genevieve Wordal.
Marie Rudie
Marie Rudie, age 92, a resident of Sullivan Care Center in Spokane, WA, a former resident of Holdingford, MN, died August 24, 1998, in Spokane.
Services were held August 28. Burial was in the St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Spokane, WA.
Marie was born August 1, 1906 to John and Elizabeth (Evans) Brady of Holdingford and later moved to the Bowlus area. She was united in marriage to Joe Rudie on June 9, 1925, in Bowlus, MN. They lived on a farm in Two Rivers Township until they moved to California in the 1950s.
Survivors include her three daughters, Diane Moore, Hunting Beach, CA, Patricia Truzinski, Havasu Landing, CA, Iris Baumann, Saulsbury, TN; two sons, Gary Rudie of Priest Lake, ID, and Norbert Rudie of Crystal, MN; a sister, Ann Litchy, Verona, MO; 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Joe Rudie in 1994;and two brothers, Nick and Jim Brady.
James B. Monn
Services for James B. Monn, age 67, a resident of St. Cloud, MN, who died September 8, 1998, at the St. Cloud Hospital were held September 11 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, St. Cloud.
James Monn was born on April 9, 1931, in St. Cloud to Albin and Monica (Harren) Monn. He married Beatrice Bentfield June 29, 1963, at St. Mary’s Cathedral in St. Cloud and the couple divorced. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, and employed as a mechanic by Arnold’s Equip-ment in St. Cloud, then as a airplane Mechanic and Inspector at Leaders Flying service in Clear Lake until retiring. He was currently employed as a school bus driver for the Guardian School Bus Company. He was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud, the VFW Post 428 of St. Cloud, and the American Legion Post 254 of Sauk Rapids.
Survivors include his daughter and son, Michelle Monn and Mark Monn, both of St. Cloud and his brother, Joseph Monn of Little Falls.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Warren Martinson
Warren Willard Martinson, age 77, a resident of Upsala, MN, died September 8, 1998, at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls, MN.
Funeral services were held September 11 at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Upsala with Pastor Alan Bray officiating. Military rites were provided by the Upsala American Legion Post 350. Burial was at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church Parish Cemetery.
Warren was born December 18, 1920, in Upsala to Andrew and Nellie (Pehrson) Martinson. He attended school in Upsala. On December 18, 1941, he was united in marriage to Elsie Berens in Long Prairie, MN. Warren served in the United States Army during World War II in Normandy, Northern France, and Germany. He worked at the Upsala Co-op Creamery and Feed Store for 20 years. He was then part owner of Proto Sheet Metal Co. in Adren Hills, MN, until retirement. Warren was a charter member of the Upsala Volunteer Fire Department and past member of theAmerican Legion of Upsala.
Survivors include Elsie (Berens) Martinson of Upsala; sons, Warren A. Martinson and wife Sue of Fergus Falls, MN, and Gary A. Martinson and wife Susan of Ramsey, MN; daughter, Mary L. Stroman and husband David of Denver, CO; sister Bonnie Amren and husband Lindor of Upsala; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Walter, Stanley, and Grant Martinson; three sisters, Vinnie Swenson, Pearl Michaelis, and Grace Erlandson; and two grandchildren, Amber and Adam Martinson.
Casketbearers were Bill Osberg, Tom Lind, Bob Blaeser, Martin Berens, Winton Hagstrom and Mellie Anderson.
Honorary casketbearers were Gary Martinson, Jr., Scott Martinson, Andrew Martinson, David Stroman, Heather Wahlgren and Jennifer Stroman.
