John Ziegler
John “Buddy” Ziegler, age 79, a resident of Whitewater, MT, died of natural causes March 2, 1999, at his home.
A funeral Mass was held March 8 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Whitewater with Fr. Jim O’Neil officiating. Military honors were provided by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion of Malta, MT. Interment was in Forks Cemetery, Whitewater.
Buddy was born March 10, 1919, in Pierz, MN, the son of Anton “Tony” and Matilda “Tillie” (Meyer) Ziegler. He was raised and educated in Pierz and Hopkins, MN. He married Loretta Mae Johnson on November 25, 1939, in St. Louis Park, MN. Buddy served in the Marines during the end of World War II from 1944 until 1946. For many years he was employed by Minneapolis Moline in Hopkins. Buddy also worked for Schaffer Products in Minneapolis, MN; Motor Mower in Centerville, IN; Tyler Manufacturing in Benson, MN, and Custom Products in Litchfield, MN, from which he retired in 1984. John did consulting work in many places for many years after retiring. He was in demand for all his knowledge over the years. His joy was helping smaller companies with their problems. He seemed to know how to correct or help whenever needed. Through this he made many friends. Buddy had many interests and hobbies over the years, which included reading the Bible, duck hunting, fishing, golf, bowling, card playing, enjoying nature and feeding birds. He loved to travel and visit all his children and grandchildren wherever they lived, and always had time for them.
Survivors include his wife, Loretta of Whitewater; daughters, Gail (Jim) Sorensen of Elk River, MN, Judy (Terry) Doble of Minneapolis, Mary (Mark) Lageson of Whitewater and Pam (Dave) Simmons of Yankton, SD; sons, Larry (Bonnie) Ziegler of Benson, Jerry Ziegler of Hilgers, MT, David Ziegler of Riverside, CA, and John Ziegler of Santa Barbara, CA; brother, Edward (Marion) Ziegler of Chanhassen, MN; 26 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and many relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Alfred Ziegler and grandchild, Melissa Weigel.
Pallbearers were his grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers were all his lifelong friends.
Henry Fink
Henry P. Fink, age 91, a resident of Aberdeen, SD, died March 27, 1999, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital.
Funeral services were held March 31 at the First United Methodist Church in Aberdeen with the Rev. Carol Iwerks officiating. Burial followed at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Henry was born August 29, 1907, to John and Christine (Green) Fink in Norka, Russia. He came to the United States in 1911 and settled in Colorado. Henry married Doris Keaton in 1941 at Crescent City, CA. They lived in Portland, OR, where he worked in the shipyards. In 1946 they moved to Long Prairie, MN. They made their home in Burtrum, MN, in 1949, where they owned and operated “The Hub” supper club for 23 years. For the next seven years they were caterers. They moved to South Dakota in 1985. Henry loved gardening and feeding and watching birds. He was an avid fisherman and a coin and stamp collector. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife of Aberdeen; two daughters, Jean (Pius) Reis of Aberdeen and Carol (Bud) Brandt of Big TX, while on vacation.
Mass of Christian Burial was held February 6, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Little Falls with Father Leroy Kremer officiating. Burial was at Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery in Royalton, MN.
Norman was born on September 27, 1923, to Emil and Nora (Berry) Borg in Solana, MN. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Norman was united in marriage to Mary Ann Smieja on May 2, 1950 in Royalton. He was a telegrapher for the Soo Line Railroad for a number of years. Norman then became an operator for Soo Line Railroad and then a dispatcher. His first wife Mary Ann passed away on May 28, 1985. Norman was later united in marriage to Leona Burggraff on December 28, 1986 in Upsala, MN. They retired, making their winter home in Texas and returning for the summer to Little Falls. Norman is a past member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife Leona Borg of Little Falls; son Michael Borg of Milwaukee, WI; daughter Karlene Olsen and husband Lynn of Woodbury, MN; sisters Marge Culpeper of Truth or Consequences, NM and Beatrice Borg of Apple Valley, MN; stepsons Butch Burggraff and wife Carolyn of Centerville, MN; Tom Burggraff and wife Janice of Clear Lake, MN; Elmer Burggraff and wife Denise of Richmond, MN; and Daniel Burggraff and wife Julie of Upsala, MN; stepdaughter Marlene Lange and husband Kenneth of Upsala; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; 17 step-grandchildren; and eight great step-children.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Mary Ann; parents; and brothers Henry, Victor, and Herbert.
Casket Bearers were Dean Lange, Shawn Burggraff, Douglas Zimmerman, Justin Olsen, Michael Andrews, and Roger Danielson.
Lawrence Otremba
Lawrence John Otremba, age 73, a resident of Little Falls, MN,died February 3, 1999, at his home.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held February 6 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Little Falls with Father Harold Kost and Father Kenneth Brenny concelebrating. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Military rites were conducted by Little Falls American Legion Post 46, Little Falls, VFW Post 1112, and the Forty & Eight.
Lawrence J. Otremba was bornSeptember 18, 1925, in Pierz, Morrison County, MN, to the late Joseph, Sr., and Marion (Lintner) Otremba. As a young boy his family moved to Little Falls, where he grew up, the eldest of 10 brothers and sisters. After his schooling Lawrence joined the United States Navy. He entered into active duty on December 19, 1943, and received an honorable discharge on April 18, 1946. During his service years, vessels and stations he served on were NTS, Farragut, Idaho, USS Doyen in the South Pacific, where his duties were in navigation and making ice cream for his fellow crew members and NAS, Minnea-polis, MN. He was united in marriage to Cecelia Denzen on June 10, 1947 in St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Buckman, MN. Follow-ing their marriage, Lawrence and Cecelia lived in Little Falls where he worked as a bookkeeper for the Morrison County Highway Department. That was the beginning of his life long work building roads, both as a foreman for C.L. Stodalka Company and then as a partner in Tri-City Paving, Inc., of Little Falls. Lawrence loved his work. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Little Falls, Knights of Columbus, Little Falls American Legion Post 46, Little Falls VFW Post 1112 and the Forty & Eight.
Survivors include his wife, Cecelia; daughters, Barbara Madden and husband Michael of Maple Grove, MN, Kathleen Krupke of St. Cloud, MN, Joyce Beadling and husband Rich of Rochester, MN, Joan Dubbin andhusband Dan of Little Falls; sons, Lawrence, Jr., of St. Cloud, Timothy and wife Sherrie of Little Falls; sisters, Rita Reis of Little Falls, Marcelline Paycer of Little Falls, JoAnn Kroll and husband Clarence of Richfield, MN; brothers, Clem of Verndale, MN, Marcellus and wife Barbara of Staples, MN, Romie & wife Kathy of Palm Springs, CA, Urban and wife, Carol of Little Falls, Joseph Jr. and wife Anita of Bowlus, MN and Allan of Little Falls; 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Violet Schneider
Violet Josephine Schneider, age 84, a resident of Flensburg, MN, died February 2, 1999, at her home in Flensburg.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held February 1 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Flensburg with the Rev. Raymond Donnay officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Violet was born December 17, 1914, in Wilton, MN, to the late Charles and Mary (Block) Maness. When Violet was a little girl, her mother died and she moved to St. Cloud, MN. At the age of seven years she was adopted by Cyril and Frances Zilkowski. She grew up and attended school in Flensburg. After her schooling, she lived and worked with her adoptive parents, the Zilkowskis. Violet was united in marriage to Stanley J. Schneider on April 25, 1934, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Flensburg. Following their marriage Stanley and Violet made their home in Culdrum Township, Morrison County, MN, near Swanville where they farmed. In 1975 the couple retired from farming and moved to the City of Flensburg. Stanley died February 25, 1991. Violet continued to live in Flensburg, residing there until her death. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Rosary Sodality and the Little Falls V.F.W. Auxiliary 1112. She enjoyed gardening, reading and embroidering.

She was preceded in death by her husband; infant son, Joseph in 1938; parents, Charles and Mary Maness; adoptive parents, Cyril and Frances Zilkowski; brother, Leonard Pawlletta and sisters, Lorraine Miller and Agnes Maness.
Casketbearers were Kevin, Anthony and Allen Schneider, Shawn and Michael VanHeel, Chris Broughten, and Bob and Mark Empey.
Bruce Lepinski
Bruce Lepinski, age 46, a resident of Rice, MN, died February 2, 1999.
Funeral services were held February 6 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Rice, with Rev. David Maciej officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Bruce was born July 24, 1952, in Little Falls, MN, to Clarence and Frances Jean (Tylman) Lepinski. He married Mary Dirkes on June 7, 1975, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Little Falls. He lived in Rice for the past 19-1/2 years, and was a welder at Park Industries in St. Cloud, MN. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Rice Knights of Columbus Bishop Busch Council 9138, Little Falls American Legion Post 46, and was an usher at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife, Mary of Rice; children and their spouses, Carla Gronau and Chad of Waite Park, MN, Michael Lepinski of Rice and Laura Lepinski of Rice; parents, Clarence and Frances Jean Lepinski of Little Falls; brothers, Mark Lepinski of Sauk Rapids, MN, Alan and Wayne Lepinski of St. Joseph, MN, and granddaughter, Kalley Gronau of Waite Park.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Emmi Buss
Emmi Buss, infant daughter of Gregory and Kimberly (Bzdok) Buss, East Bethel, MN, was born and died on January 22, 1999, at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, MN.
Survivors include her parents; sister, Celka Buss; grandparents, George and LaVerne Bzdok of Little Falls, MN, and William and Carolyn Buss of Pequot Lakes, MN.
Alice Simmons
Alice Simmons, age 82, a resident of Brooklyn Center, MN, died April 22, 1999, at Coon Rapids, MN.
Funeral services were held April 26 at the Emmanuel Christian Center in Fridley, MN. Interment was at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in Crystal, MN.
Alice was born May 12, 1916. She was a member of Emmanuel Christian Center, Fridley.
Survivors include husband, Dale; daughter, Alecia Simmons of Little Falls, MN; grandchildren, Curtis, Robert and Lexus Simmons of Little Falls; sisters, Hazel Lewis and Elaine Simmons; brother, Leland McConnell and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon L. and Callie and her brother, Earl.
Richard Schreiber
Richard Schreiber, age 74, a lifetime resident of Little Falls,MN, died April 24, 1999, at his home, after a short, but courageous battle with cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial was held April 27 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Little Falls, with Father Leroy Kremer officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Military rites were provided by Little Falls VFW Post 1112.
Richard was born June 28, 1924, in Little Falls to Julius and Pauline (Zurowski) Schreiber. He graduated from Little Falls High School, and then entered the United States Navy on December 25, 1942. He served during WWII on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. San Jacinto. Richard was united in marriage to Rose Wielinski on October 15, 1946, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. He was employed by Hennepin Paper Co. for 40 years, beginning his journey as a fifth-hand and retiring as a tour foreman on July 30, 1986. After retiring, Richard served one term on the Little Falls City Council and became active on the Mainstreet Committee. He was an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, serving on the parish council for three years, and cleaning and serving for funeral Masses. He was very active and served on the board of directors of the Little Falls Senior Citizens Center and presently was their president. Richard was also a life member of VFW Post 1112. Richard enjoyed life fully, bringing laughter and smiles to everyone he encountered. His life centered around service to his family, community and nation. Richard’s wife, Rose, their children and 17 grandchildren were the focus and joy of his life. The Little Falls Senior Center was his passion. Early Thursday mornings, you would find him up to his elbows in doughnut making. Once a month, he would beat the griddle flipping pancakes for Pancake Sunday. Richard was instrumental in writing and obtaining numerous grants to fund improvements for the center. Currently, he was leading a fund-drive for a new addition to the center. As a lifelong resident of Little Falls, he was an advocate in promoting the beauty of the city. Richard was instrumental in bringing crafts to the west side of the city during the September Arts and Crafts weekend. Richard will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. The last few weeks of his life were a battle for him, but through it all he continued to smile and keep his faith and humor. Through his courage and great faith, he gave his family a wonderful gift-himself. “And now abideth faith, hope and love, these three; but the greatest of these is love” (I Corinthians 13:13).
Survivors include his wife, Rose of Little Falls; sons, Ken Schreiber of St. Joseph, MN, and Dennis Schreiber and wife Lou Ann of Rochester, MN; daughters, Julie Czech and husband Don of Little Falls, Margaret Kalis and husband Dan of Buffalo, MN, and Patricia May and husband Jerry of Waconia, MN; brother, Donald Schreiber and wife Gen of Little Falls; sisters, Bernadine Motsko of Little Falls and Joanne Casey of New Hope, MN; son-in-law, Don Asselin of St. Cloud, MN, and 17 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Mary Asselin.
Casketbearers were Adam and Noah Czech, Chris and Brian Kalis, Anthony and Robby Schreiber and Terrence and Jason Asselin.
Honorary casketbearers were members of the Hennepin Paper Company.
