Evelyn Lucille Prudhomme
Evelyn Lucille Prudhomme, 72, of Crookston, North Dakota with many of her family at her side. Evelyn was born at Oklee, Minnesota. On October 3, 1953 Evelyn was united in marriage to Paul L. Prudhomme at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls. Together they raised seven children. Paul and Evelyn farmed and had a dairy operation in Kertsonville Township, rural Crookston. They retired from farming in 1981 and moved into Crookston in May of 1989. Sadly, Paul passed away on May 12, 1995. Evelyn was employed part-time for five years by the Diocese of Crookston and the Cathedral Priests until retiring in 2000 due to failing health. She was a devoted member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception parish, St. Anne’s Sodality, and St. Anthony’s Circle. Evelyn was devoted to her family, taking great pleasure from the accomplishments of her children and their families. She was able to give them all strength as she bore her final illness with great dignity. She will be truly missed and very lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her. May God bless Evelyn’s memory.
Family members include four daughters and two sons-in-law, Debbie and Bill Peterson, Sue and Howard Bachand, Karen Lyczewski, and Brenda Prudhomme, all of Crookston, MN; three sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Carrie Prudhomme, and Ron and Darla Prudhomme, of Crookston, and Mike and Joye Prudhomme of Fisher, MN; seventeen grandchildren, Amy (Nate) Lubarski, Brian Peterson, Dana (George) Widman IV, Andrea and Jenna Prudhomme, Angela, Kathryn, and Rachel Bachand, Joshua, Alex, and Logan Prudhomme, Nick, Noah, and Kieffer Prudhomme, and Brett, Mark, and Brandon Lyczewski; and three great-grandchildren, Jaden and Rylan Lubarski, and George Widman V. Evelyn also leaves to mourn her passing two brothers and sisters-in-law, Leroy and Pat Hince of Minneapolis, MN, and Richard and Geri Hince of Surprise, AZ; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Donna and Bernard DesRoches of West Fargo, ND, Joanne and Fran Dufault of Moorhead, MN, Yvonne and Joe Noel of Halstad, MN, and Jean Steinert of Crystal, MN; a sister-in-law, Tama Hince of Hawaii; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Besides her beloved husband, Paul, Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Emma Hince; two sisters, Yvonne and Elizabeth Hince; a brother, Robert Hince; and a brother-in-law, Gordon Steinert.
The funeral service for Evelyn Lucille Prudhomme will be held at 2:00PM, Monday, October 30, 2006, in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Crookston with the Rev. Bob Schreiner, presiding. Visitation will be at the Cathedral from 5-7PM Sunday, with a 7PM prayer service, and also for one hour before the funeral. Interment will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery at Gentilly, Minnesota, died unexpectedly of natural causes at her residence on Wednesday, October 25, 2006. Kristi was born in Crookston on October 12, 1971, the daughter of Kenneth and Cheryl (Joseph) Bingham. She grew up in Crookston and attended Central High School. Kristi moved to Hopkins, Minnesota and Kristi was employed at Fargo’s Radisson Hotel. She later became an in-home care-provider for developmentally disabled people living in Fargo-Moorhead. She returned to Crookston in 2002. Kristi enjoyed doing all types of crafts. She will be very lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her family and friends.
Family members include two daughters, Stephanie Bingham of Crookston, MN and Kaylee Jo Sharbono of Mapleton, ND; her parents, Ken and Cheryl Bingham of Crookston; two brothers, Barry Bingham of Crookston and Shawn Bingham of Marshall, MN; a nephew, Tarin Bingham of Marshall; a niece, Makenah Bingham of Crookston; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Willard and Hazel Bingham, and George and Lois Joseph. May God bless Kristi’s memory.
The funeral service for Kristi Kaye Sharbono will be held at 1:30PM, Saturday, October 28, 2006, in the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home in Crookston with the Rev. Marsha Smith, officiating. Visitation will be for one hour before the service. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Crookston.
Leona Ceclia Strem
Leona Ceclia Strem, 97 of Fertile, died October 26 at Fair Meadow Nursing Home in Fertile. Funeral Services will be on Monday, October 30, at 11 a.m. at First Evanger Lutheran Church of Fertile. Visititation will be for one hour before the services at the church. Leona Strem is survived by a daughter Lavonne (Alden) Jallo of Fertile, sister in law, Polly Strem of Crookston, 6 grandchildren, Bruce Jallo, Gay Jallo, Joan (David) Ruen, Jan (Leslie) Strem, Todd (Julie) Strem And Cory Strem, 7 great grandchildren.Leona Strem was born on October 5, 1909 to Ora and Julia Wallace at Eagle Grove, Minnesota, died at her home late Monday evening, October 23, 2006. Jeanette was born on March 26, 1922, at Crookston, the daughter of Albert and Mary (DeRosier) Vaudrin. She attended country schools and later graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in 1939. As a young lady, Jeanette lived for a while in Seattle, North Dakota, where she was employed at the Dixie Bar and also at Armour’s. On September 30, 1946, she was united in marriage to Russell Allan Glass at Crookston. The couple spent a couple of winters in San Jose, Minnesota.
Loving family members include five daughters and three sons-in-law, Kathryn Glass of Crookston, MN, Colleen and Elton Solseng of Harwood, ND, Valerie and Ralph Currier of Shoreview, MN, Mary Glass of West Fargo, ND, and Phyllis Glass of Fargo, ND; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Lyle Glass of Medora, ND, James Glass of Crookston, and Ronald “Scott” and Riitta Glass of Williams, MN; nine grandchildren, Heather Vedbraaten and her husband, Scott, Heidi Balestrieri and her husband, John, Tracy Solseng, Joshua Glass, Kristen Revering and her husband, Jay, Bridget, Megan and Bradley Currier, and Maria Glass; six great-grandchildren, Taylor, Jessica, Christopher, Ian, Bailey and Rose; two sisters, Florence Maygra of Yakima, WA and Irene Skelly of Tacoma, WA; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Clarence “Frenchie” and Marlys Vaudrin and Delbert and Verna Vaudrin all of Crookston; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Besides her husband, Russell, Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Michael and Wayne; a brother, Theodore; and a sister, Lucille.
The funeral service for Jeanette Glass will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2006 at 10:00 A.M. at the St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Gentilly, MN. Visitation will be on Friday at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home from 5-7:00 P.M., with a 7:00 P.M. prayer service, and also for an hour before the funeral at the church. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Crookston, MN.
Morris (Morrie) Larson
Morris (Morrie) Larson, 91 of Fertile, died Monday, October 23 at Fair Meadow Nursing in Fertile. Funeral Services for Morrie Larson will be on Friday, October 27 at Concordia Lutheran Church in Fertile. Visitation will be for one hour before the service at the church. Morrie Larson is survived by several nephews and nieces and cousins. He was born on March 6, 1915 in Garfield Township to Oscar and Margit Larson. His father died when he was two years old and his mother died when he was 12. He lived with several families including Tosten Dale, Alfred Morvig and Gilbert Kaste. He attended school in Garfield Township and worked with the Civilian Conservation Corp in 1934 and joined the Army in 1941. He was discharged in 1945 and returned to Fertile where he worked for George Salem Motors in the parts department. He married Daphne Brandhagen on August 12, 1948 in St. Paul and they lived in Fertile where they purchased the Red Owl store from Daphne’s sisters. They sold the store in 1955 and moved to Babbit where he worked for Reserve Mining as a jet driller. He retired from the mine in 1977 and his wife died in 1988 and he moved back to Fertile in 1994.
Viola Evelyn Hansen, 92, of Crookston, Minnesota, where he worked as a crane operator in the iron mines. After a few years they returned to Crookston, and together raised three children. While Orville continued to work as a crane operator, Viola began working at the Spot Cafe. She was later employed by the Jiffy Fry Company, and then worked in the Housekeeping Department of Riverview Hospital. Viola was employed at other Crookston places of business as well, and at the time of her retirement in 1982, was performing clerical duties for the City of Crookston. Sadly, Orville passed away on April 12, 1984. Viola had continued to live in her home until the present time. She was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston and WELCA, and also held membership in the Crookston Eagles Auxiliary. Viola enjoyed visiting with family and friends, and because of her incredible memory was dubbed a "walking history book" and served as the unofficial family historian. She was an avid cross-word puzzle fan, and had enjoyed making afghans all her life, many of which grace the homes of her family. Viola embraced her roles as wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, and she will be very lovingly remembered and missed by all who were part of her life.
Family members included a daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Donald Taus of Angus, Mn; a son Arlen Hansen of Crookston; eight grandchildren, Mark (Domita) Taus of Warren, MN, Pamela (Kevin) Olson of Grand Rapids, MN, Daniel (Tina) Taus of Middle River, MN, Michael D. Taus of Minneapolis, Sherry Hansen of Pembina, N.D., Jeff (Kim) Hansen of Grand Forks, Teresa (Scott) Anderson of Rogers, AR, and Michael (Shelli) Rude of Pembina. Viola also leaves seventeen great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Sarah, and Noah Olson, Jessica and Robert Boman, Tamara and Michael Diaz, Jordan, Chelsea, and Keaton Hansen, Jayden and Christian Hansen, Braden, Bailey, and Brooke Anderson, and Landon and Sydney Rude; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Besides her husband, Orville, Viola was preceded in death by a son, David, who died on January 17, 2000; her parents, Nels and Minnie,; a brother, Edwin "Dempsey" Sylvester; and four sisters, Mary Solheim, Nora Steinbrink, Alice Youngquist and Geneva Seaton.
The funeral service for Viola Evelyn Hansen will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, June 8, 2007, in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston, with the Rev. Marsha Smith, officiating. Visitation will be at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home in Crookston on Thursday from 5:00-7:00 PM, with a 7:00 PM prayer service, and at the church for one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will be in the Oakdale Cemetery in Crookston.
Nora M. Dufault
Nora M. Dufault, age 89, joined our Heavenly Father on May 30th, 2007, after a short illness at Kadlec Medical Center. Nora was born December 11, 1917 in Crookston, MN to Aime and Evelyn (Cote) Arel. She met and then later married Clarence Dufault on October 5, 1937 in Gentilly, MN. Clarence and Nora farmed on her family farm and raised their children; Janice, Duane and Donna. After they retired from farming in 1989, they moved to Crookston, MN, where they resided until August of 1997 when they moved to Connell, WA to be near their children.
Survivors include her daughter; Janice Erstad, son; Duane Dufault, both of Connell, WA, daughter; Donna Sporleder and husband, Bob, of Moses Lake, WA; 13 grandchildren; Ann Kincaid (Rick) Vancouver, WA, Pam Leavitt (Keith) Connell, WA, Joni Moon (Walter) Portland, OR, Mike Erstad (Rhonda) Connell, WA, Mary Wright, Pasco, WA, Janelle Welch (Robert) Connell, WA, Jeff Dufault (Tammy) Claremore, OK, Vanessa Dufault, St. Paul, MN, Scot Bjorge (Heather) Kennewick, WA, Dana Barrow (Darren) Mesa, AZ, Robin Giese (Don) Pasco, WA, Beth Smith (Tom) Kennewick, WA, and David Sporleder (Cheri) Kennewick, WA. 28 great grandchildren and 2 great-great granddaughters.
Nora was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clarence, two grandchildren; Craig Steven Erstad and Frank WrightViewing and Rosary will be held on Monday, June 4th at 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. and Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, June 5th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Vincent Catholic Church, Connell, WA. Frederick Albert Ficken
Frederick Albert Ficken, 90, Fertile, Nebraska, the son of Albert and Charlotte (Noltensmeier) Ficken. He was baptized at Salem Lutheran Church, Minnesota. Fred farmed for many years and raised cattle and hogs.
Fred is survived by his wife, Glendora, two sons, Art (Eileen) Gundell, Kaneohe, Hawaii, Robert (Bev) Gundell, Eustis, NE.; one daughter, Julie (Keith) Rensland, Minot, N.D.; one brother, Leonard Ficken, Eustis, NE; nine grandchildren and may great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Richard and Paul, one daughter, Judith (Gundell) Reinke.
The funeral service will be on Monday, June 4, 2007 in St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Ada. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM at Erikson-Vik Funeral Home, Fertile and Monday for one hour before the funeral at the church. Burial will be at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, rural Ada.

Ruth Strom
Ruth Strom, 101, of Erskine, Minnesota, and a former resident of Maple Lake, near Mentor, Minnesota, and was the daughter of Nelmer P. and Gertrude M (Bearson) Glain. She grew up at Fertile and was a 1941 graduate of Fertile High School. Phyllis attended the Northwest Insitute of Medical Technology in Minneapolis and graduated as a lab and x-ray technican. That was followed by a move to Pawnee City, North Dakota to work for Dr. Ralph Leigh at his clinic. On October 7, 1946 she was united in marriage to Dean Thomas Heng at the First Methodist Church in Crookston. The couple made their home in Crookston, and Phyllis was kept very busy in her roles as wife and mother of three daughters. Sadly, Dean passed away on September 8, 1967. One year later, Phyllis began working at Crookston's Central High School. In 1978 she began employment with the Glenmore Recovery Center, also in Crookston. Phyllis was united in marriage to Ben H. Rohrer on August 30, 1985 at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Crookston. Ben and Phyllis made their home at Maple Lake, while spending winters in Mesa, Minnesota.
