Fern Junelle Burke
Fern Junelle Burke, 76 passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2005 at Riverview Hospital, in Crookston, Minnesota on June 22, 1929. She graduated from Erskine High School. She was named Miss Northwest at the Detroit Lakes Water Carnival in 1947. She married Kenneth Sorvig of Winger, Minnesota. They were parents of Nancy, Michael and Daniel. Fern moved to Fargo where she was the manager of the Bridal Shop and Three Sisters Clothing Store. She was employed by the Fargo Foundry when she met and married Eddie Burke of East Grand Forks, and joined him in operating Eddies Auto Sales for many years. Fern and Ed have a son Philip. Thru the years they enjoyed good times with family and friends at Maple Lake, which was the scene of lots of laughs, fun and good food. Fern loved cooking, baking and fussing over her family and created many foot races between her kids trying to get to the brownies first. Fern’s family will always remember the fiercely proud lady who loved anything red, dancing and spending time with her family. We thank her for the example of strength and independence she gave us.
Fern was preceded in death by her parents, sisters; Myrtle, Lillian, Pearl, Hazel, Mabel and Donna and Rosalie, brothers; Robert, Chester, Lester and Orlo, her son Michael and step-son Tim Burke and great grandson Jacob.
Fern will be sorely missed and lovingly survived by her husband Eddie, daughter Nancy, of Moorhead, Indianapolis, IN, Philip (Anita) of Shakopee, Arizona, Wanda Burke of Bemidji, Minnesota, and many nieces and nephews.

Beatrice Laidley, 68, East Grand Forks, North Dakota the daughter of Victor and Francis (Pitrzak) Helmowski. She grew up and attended school in the Minto area. Beatrice married Maynard Laidley on May 26, 1956 in Milwaukee, Minnesota where she worked for King of Spuds until her retirement in 1990.
Beatrice is survived by her two children; Troy (Cindy) Laidley of Grand Forks, Minnesota, 6 grandchildren, mother in law; Sophia Laidley of Newfolden, Arizona and Richard Helmowski of Grand Forks, North Dakota, passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2005 at the Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, Minnesota, the son of Mike and Irene (Page) Keehr. He grew up in Little Falls and Bemidji, North Dakota and the East Grand Forks Firearms Safety Instruction. He owned and operated G&G Sporting Goods in Grand Forks, North Dakota, Mark and his wife Linda, of Grand Forks, Minnesota, daughters; Kay Ann, and Lorene Keehr, both of Grand Forks, Minnesota, brother; Leo, of Brainerd, Minnesota died Tuesday, July 26, 2005 at Fair Meadow Nursing Center, Fertile, North Dakota the son of August and Philmina (Sattler) Schneibel. He attended Finnigan School in Rollette, North Dakota.
George worked driving truck for Bridgeman Creamery, Wilcox and Malm, Red Owl and Goodman’s Home Furnishings. He then worked as a custodian at UND, retiring in 1993.
He is survived by his wife, Wilma of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, Christine Schneibel of East Grand Forks, Bertha (Robin) Burdick of Idaho Falls, Idaho, North Dakota, David Schneibel of Grand Forks, brothers Leonard (Bernadine) Schneibel of Bismarck, North Dakota, Clara (Joe) Brossart of Rugby, North Dakota formally of East Grand Forks, Minnesota.
Harold Giese was born on November 12, 1920 in East Grand Forks, Minnesota, graduating for East Grand Forks Central High School. Following graduation, he enlisted in the Marine Corps, and then went on and attended the Minnesota. On May 28, 1945, Harold was united in marriage to Elizabeth “Toddy” Carroll at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Grand Forks, Minnesota, worked at Rydell Chevrolet in Grand Forks, North Dakota, before going to work at the East Grand Forks Water and Light Department, retiring in 1995. Harold loved his family get to gathers, was an avid outdoorsmen, and was a wonderful father who considered his children his greatest asset.
Cherished family members of Harold include his wife; Elizabeth of East Grand Forks, Oregon, Martha Stratton, of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, three grandchildren and one great grandchild, sisters; Elsie Krostue of Kansas City, Kansas, and Alyce Mae Wilson of Minneapolis, Minnesota, passed away on Thursday ~ August 25, 2005 at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, Ohio, the son of Norbert and Bettie (Guisleman) Schaaf. As a child he moved to Stevens Point, Wisconsin High School. On October 18, 1997 he was united in marriage to Jill M. Weiss in Tomahawk, Minnesota, and also owned and operated DMS Tackle and Guide Service. Dave was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed bonding with family and friends at their lake home. His outspoken personality touched the lives of everyone he met. The love Dave and Jill shared will live on forever.
Cherished family members of David include his wife Jill, children; Sandy Hansen of Madison, WI, Aimee Schaaf of Green Bay, WI, Vicki (Bruce) Pionek of Stevens Point, WI, Melissa Schaaf of Mosinee, WI, Rachel and Sara Schaaf both of Whiting, WI, stepchildren; Robert Miller of Drummond, WI, Lauren Anderson of East Grand Forks, OH, Karen Schaaf of Canton, Minnesota, and many nieces and nephews.
David is preceded in death by his father, Norbert his brother “Freddy” and an infant son, Matthew.
Dave continues to live on by giving the gift of life to others by donating his organs.

She grew up on a farm near Heimdal, North Dakota on May 4, 1946. They lived in several different places before moving to East Grand Forks, Minnesota, 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 1 sister; Agnes Wick of East Grand Forks. She is preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters; Cora Hovland and Muriel Krueger and 4 brothers, Norris, Sanster, Ernest and Elmer Hovland.

Interment: Resurrection Cemetery, East Grand Forks, North Dakota.
Jack was born on January 23, 1944 in Bagley, Minnesota, until he was in the 7th grade, and then attended Valley Jr. High School in Grand Forks, North Dakota till he was 21, then moved back to Wichita, Kansas where he worked at Dinatone Eletronics. He later returned to East Grand Forks, Texas Hold’em Poker.Jack touched the lives of everyone who knew him, and will be deeply missed by those who loved him.
Cherished family members of Jack include the love of his life; Sheri of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, two nieces; Billie (Warren) of Texarcana, Minnesota, six nephews; Cory and Paul of Wichita, Kansas, Brad, Leonard, Jack Roy, Donny Jr. Nesdahl all of East Grand Forks, Minnesota.
