Donna Ellinger
Donna Amber Ellinger, 91, of Crookston, North Dakota on November 9, 1912, the daughter of Thorvald Axel and Julie Ann (Haahr) Christiansen. As a young girl she moved with her family to the Climax-Crookston area and graduated from Crookston Central High School in 1931. On October 11, 1935 Donna was united in marriage to Earl Halvor Ellinger at Crookston. Earl and Donna farmed in Fairfax Township, near Crookston, for six years before moving to the San Francisco Bay area of California, and Donna served as the church organist and choir director for many years. In 1969 they moved back to Crookston. Earl passed away on August 27, 1991. Donna was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston, and had also belonged to the Riverview Hospital Auxiliary for over twenty years. She will be very lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her family and friends.
Family members include a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Sharon Ellinger of Evergreen, CO; two daughters and a son-in-law, Mary and Gary Jagoe of Brentwood, CA, and Jeri Ellinger of Crookston, MN; four grandchildren, Todd Ellinger and his wife, Kara, of Minnetrista, MN, Jaymie Larson and her husband, Milan, of Lincoln, NE, David Jagoe and his wife, Nicole, of Pleasanton, CA, Dr. Marcie Billings and her husband, Rick, of Rochester, MN; four great-grandchildren, Hunter, Emiley, Annika, and Alexandra; two sisters, Alice Porterfield of Fresno, CA and Betty Anderson of Ukiah, CA; a brother-in-law, Milton "Bud" Ellinger of Crookston; a sister-in-law, Lucy Ellinger of Crookston; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Besides her husband, Earl, Donna was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Barbara Ellinger; and two brothers, Donald and Gordon Christiansen.
A memorial service for Donna Ellinger will be held at 2:00PM, Friday, January 16, 2004, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston with the Rev. Randy Smith, officiating. Visitation will be at the church for an hour before the service. The Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Irvine 'Robbe' Robinson
Irvine (Robbe) Thomas Robinson passed away on Jan. 10, 2004 after a long illness. Robbe was born June 25, 1915 in Sharon, Washington, Penn., where he taught school for several years. They had a son, Richard, in 1941.
He served in the Navy in WWII in the Moroccan Theater and attained the rank of lieutenant commander. In 1949 he married Carolyn Gleason. They lived in Olean, N.Y. in 1953; he later left Ward's and held a position of credit manager for the A. C. Dutton Lumber Company for many years. In 1955 another son, Christopher, was born.
While living in Poughkeepsie, Robbe served on the Wappingers Falls Central District School Board for several years and chaired the Zoning Board of Appeals. In 1966 he married Ethel Hutchings. In 1968 Robbe purchased the Tannersville Supply Company, a hardware and lumber business. He served on the Board of Directors of Greene County Hospital and was active in the Lion's Club.
In 1980 they retired to Tampa, Fla., where they lived next door to his older brother, Edward, for many years. They summered in Alexandria Bay, Florida State Coordinator for the program. He also volunteered his services in the Emergency Room at Brandon Hospital in Brandon, Fla. His wife, Ethel, passed away in 1992. In 1999, Robbe moved to Grand Forks, N.D. and in 2000, he moved to Crookston, Minn.
Robbe worked hard all his life, but he loved nothing more than to pack up and head to the Thousand Islands region of the St. Lawrence River in the summer, where he fished for pike and spent hours out in his boat. He collected stamps for many years and was proud of his United Nations and People's Republic of China collections. He was an avid coin collector as well. In later years he played solitaire on his computer, keeping meticulous records of games played, lost and won.
Robbe is survived by his three children, Richard Robinson of Livonia, Mich., Linda Crawford of Crookston, and Christopher Robinson of Export, Penn.; five grandchildren, Marc Robinson of N.Y. Visitation will be 9-10 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow immediately in St. John's Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Buono Funeral Service, Inc., Saugerties, Minnesota, the son of Hans and Josephine (Liners) Bergquist. He attended Crookston schools. He owned and operated City Cab in Crookston, and moved to Grand Forks in 1980. He was employed as a driver for the Grand Forks City Bus System.
He married Phyllis Bredeson on June 18, 1990 in Grand Forks.
Survivors include: his wife, Phyllis, sons, Rodney, Richard, Daniel and Dale; daughters, Lisa and Connie, and many grandchildren; niece, Diana (Darryl) Thompson; grandnieces, JoElle Boucher and Amy Theis, who shared Les' birthday. Other survivors include stepson Kim (Tamara) Bredeson of Baudette, Texas; great-great-grandma, Margarita Mendoza of San Antonio; his God parents, Henry and Lisa Zepeda of Crookston; and many uncles, aunts, cousins and other relatives.
The funeral service for Jesse Arthur Andrey Mendoza will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home in Crookston. Visitation will be for one hour before the funeral. Internment will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Crookston.
Irene L. Sullivan
Irene L. Sullivan, 86, of Lisbon, N.D., died Saturday evening, April 19, at her home, surrounded by her family.
Irene Rice was born Sept. 27, 1916 in Lisbon, N.D.; the daughter of Willard and Josie Rice. She graduated from Lisbon High School and married Vernon Sullivan on Aug. 17, 1936 in Lisbon. They farmed near Lisbon until 1958 and moved into Lisbon, where they owned and operated Sullivan's Bar. They also operated a resort for five years on Dead Lake, near Dent, MN.
Irene was a lifetime member of the St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Her faith and devotion were an inspiration to all of her family and many friends. Irene had many happy memories with her husband Vernon. Fishing at the lake and spending winters together in Arizona; Tom (Kay) Rice, Arizona; and Darlene Berger, Northfield, MN; 28 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; her parents, Willard and Josie Rice; infant brother Curtis; sister, Pearl Kuchera; great granddaughter-in-law, Joleen Hauge.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Lisbon. Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 22, 2003, 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. at Armstrong Funeral Home, Lisbon. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Lisbon, N.D. Burial will be at the St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery, Lisbon, N.D.
Irene was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
