David Howard Hopkins
David Howard Hopkins, 47, of International Falls, died Friday June 27, at his home. He was born Jan. 9, 1956 at Little Rock, Arkansas. Graduated from McClellam High School in Little Rock, AK. He lived most of his life in Los Angeles, Minnesota, died early Saturday morning, July 5, 2003, at the Villa St. Vincent Nursing Home in Crookston. Gil was born at Twin Valley, Minnesota when he was a year old, and then to Crookston in 1930. He was a 1936 graduate of the Northwest School of Agriculture at Crookston. After working around the Crookston area for three years Gil moved to San Diego where he was employed by the Consolidated Aircraft Corporation for two years. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corp in January of 1943, and on December 27, 1943 was united in marriage to Maxine Glass at Crookston. Gil served in Italy during WWII with the 463rd Bomb Group of the 15th Air Force and received his honorable discharge with the rank of Master Sergeant in October of 1945. Upon his return to Crookston he became a bulk agent for the Kelly Oil Company. In 1953 he began a successful farming career in Fairfax Township. In 1985 Gil retired from farming and sold the corporation to his son, Tuffy. In 1993 he and Maxine moved from the farm into Crookston. They were able to enjoy several winters in Mesa, Minnesota, died Friday afternoon, June 27, 2003, at the Riverview Hospital in Crookston. Richard was born in Heaton Township of McClean County, North Dakota. Seven children were born to their union-Llewellyn, Garry, Richard Sr., Sheila, Jean, Stanley, and Roger. Prior to his retirement Richard worked as a carpenter in the construction trade. He married Doris Ann Hanson on December 16, 1972. Richard will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Loving family members include his wife, Doris, of Fosston, MN; two sons, Stanley Heinle of Ogden, UT and Roger Heinle of Minneapolis, MN; two daughters, Sheila Heinle of Hillsboro, ND and Jean Heinle of Minneapolis; several grandchildren; a brother, Andrew Heinle of Bismarck, ND; a sister, Sarah Wanner of Detroit Lakes, MN; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Richard was preceded in death by three sons, Llewellyn, Garry, and Richard Jr.; a grandson, Thomas Heinle; and several brothers and sisters.
A memorial service for Richard David Heinle will be held at 11:00AM, Monday, July 7, 2003, at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home in Crookston, with the Rev. Randy Smith, officiating. Visitation will be for one hour before the service. Inurnment will be in the Oakdale Cemetery in Crookston.
Donald E. Quam Jr.
Donald E. Quam Jr., 58, San Diego, died of cancer on Sept. 30, 2003. Preceding him in death was his mother, Lois (Norri) Quam, originally from Crookston. She died on April 29th, 1999, and was a sister to Marion (Bill) Kiewel. Surviving are his father, Donald L. Quam Sr. and a son and daughter and families all of Minnesota, died Friday evening, October 3, 2003 at the Villa St. Vincent Nursing Home in Crookston. Huguette was born in northern France, on July 16, 1922, the daughter of Louis and Martine (Boitel) Weypen. She attended public school and the equivalent of high school for six years, to include the English language. During World War II, Huguette was involved in the war effort; she was involved with the underground and did some interpretation for the U.S. Army. She also met Clarence W. "Mike" Kludt who was stationed in France and the couple wed on June 20, 1945. Upon returning to the United States, after Mike's honorable discharge, they made their home in St. Paul, Minnesota, died early Tuesday morning, September 23, 2003, at the Villa St. Vincent Nursing Home in Crookston.
Louis was born in Russia Township of Polk County, near Beltrami, Washington State for a short time. She returned to the Ada Area and worked in retail sales off and on. She was united in marriage to Arnold Salveson on Oct. 23, 1953 in Webster, N.D. They purchased a home in Ada in 1972 where they raised four children, David, Jeffrey, Pamela and Laurie. Audrey enjoyed her life as wife, mother and grandmother. She was a big collector of Jewelry and had a strong appreciation for art. Audrey loved crossword puzzles and liked music, singing and playing musical instruments such as the guitar, accordion, violin and many others.
Audrey is survived by a son, Jeffrey Salveson, Fargo; two daughters: Pamela (Daniel) Elliott, Shorewood, and Laurie (James) DePew, Colburn, ID; 11 grandchildren: Daniel, Hannah, Nicole, Jonah, Naomi, Matthew, Noah, Esther, Joseph, Brandon, and Elijah; and one sister, Florence Bestul, Eureka, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Arnold in 1999, one son, David; one brother, Floyd Bak and three sisters, Evelyn Moen, Eleanor Pease and Sylvia Lee.
