He was also the founder and member of the Retired Men's Hockey Team in West Covina, Calif.; his mother, Louise, and his father, Earl; and sisters Janet Cole of North Dakota State University in Fargo where she received a bachelor's degree in physical education. While a student at NDSU she competed on the women's volleyball and softball teams for four years. She was voted the MVP in both sports in 1975 and 1976. She was a true-blue Crookston Pirates fan and loved attending sporting events of all kinds. She enjoyed being with her family and friends, and sharing life and laughter with them. However, Donnie's greatest joy was reserved for the love of her life - her daughter, Nicki. Her heart filled with pride as she watched Nicki participate in life's activities and she delighted in her accomplishments. Not only were they mother and daughter but best friends as well.
