Anthony Scott Gruber
(February 28, 1967 - January 19, 2012)
Anthony S. Gruber, age 44, of Lincoln, Missouri, passed away Thursday afternoon, January 19, 2012, at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.
He was born in Rolla, Missouri, on February 28, 1967, the son of Robert L. and Betty E. Forester Gruber.
He graduated from high school at Plato, Missouri. He made his home in Kansas City, and Springfield, until moving to Warsaw, and then Lincoln, Missouri, about six years ago.
He worked as a laborer at various constructions projects throughout the area.
He was preceded in death by his mother and one brother, William Gruber.
Anthony is survived by one son, Austin Gruber, of the home; two step-sons, Koehn Isenberg and Korey Isenberg, both of Warsaw; four brothers, Robert Gruber, of Fulton, Missouri, Amos Gruber, of the state of Kentucky, Ronald Gruber, of Rolla, Missouri, and James Gruber, also, of Kentucky; one sister, Rosemary Brown, of Kentucky, numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Anthony Gruber will be cremated and a Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at the Davis-Miller Funeral Home in Lincoln, Missouri.
Frederick Giocondi
(September 26, 1952 - January 21, 2012)
Frederick L. Giocondi, age 59, of Warsaw, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2012, at his home.
He was born on September 26, 1952, in San Francisco, California, the son of Alexander and Mary Elizabeth Morgan Giocondi.
He grew up in San Francisco and moved to Fortuna, Missouri, in 1972.
In 1978, he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Jenkins. Unto this union, one daughter, Elizabeth, was born. Most of their married life was spent in Warsaw and Mary Ann survives of Warsaw.
Fred worked as a journeyman for the Benton County Surveyor for many years and assisted with the surveying of both Drake Harbor and Bledsoe Ferry in Warsaw. He had a passion for music and was the drummer for the band "Cantina" which played in the local area. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Fred was raised in the catholic faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Godden, and her husband, Danny, of Kansas City, Missouri, and grandchildren, Rylee and Reagan Godden, also of Kansas City, daughter, Camille Childers of Dacula, Georgia and grandchildren, James, Davis, and Gavin Childers, also of Dacula, a sister, Katherine Giocondi, of Warsaw, a step-sister, April Foxworthy and a step-brother, Dale Hall Foxworthy, both of Missouri, other relatives and friends.
A memorial visitation will be held Friday evening, January 27, 2012, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., at the Reser Funeral Home, Warsaw, MO.
Frederick Giocondi was cremated by Kaysinger Crematory under the direction of the Reser Funeral Home, Warsaw, MO.
George E. Young, Sr.
(May 8, 1934 - January 26, 2012)
George E. Young, Sr., age 77, of Warsaw, passed away Thursday, January 26, 2012, at Bothwell Regional Health Care Center in Sedalia, MO.
He was born on May 8, 1934, in Warsaw, MO, the son of Gale A. and Ona May Smith Young.
George grew up in Warsaw, and attended Fraction Point Country School near Warsaw.
He lived in Claremore, Oklahoma, for a short time where he worked at a service station. He then returned to Missouri, and was employed by the R & S Truck Stop in Collins, MO. He later worked for Ruben Miller, and then Jack Weddle, before becoming the owner of George’s APCO in Warsaw in the mid 1970’s. He had also worked for Darrell Kinkead for several years.
George liked his work and always was changing the oil for a friend, if not, a family member. He also worked on lawn mowers following his retirement. He loved to coon hunt in his early years and he enjoyed bowling.
He was married to Sarah Thornton on March 27, 1998 and they made their home in the Lincoln and Warsaw area.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gale Young, his mother, Ona May Simmons, two brothers, Jack Young and Larry Young and a sister, Ann Bailey.
George is survived by his wife, Sarah, of the home, six children, Debbie Smith of Lincoln, Junior Young and Monte Young, both of Warsaw, Sam Young and Cathy Engles, both of Lincoln and Amber Yearout, of Warsaw, 15 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Also surviving is three step-children, Butch Hays of Smithton, Mo, Debbie Waltemeyer and Mickey Snider, both of Sedalia, 4 step-grandchildren and 10 step-great-grandchildren, one brother, Gale Young of Warsaw and a sister, Phyllis Ann Benedict, of Wheatland, other relatives and friends.
A memorial visitation will be held Wednesday, February 1, 2012, from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M., at the Reser Funeral Home, Warsaw.
Graveside services will be Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012 at 2:00 P.M., at Fredonia Cemetery near Warsaw.
Family suggest memorial contributions be made to Fredonia Cemetery in care of the Reser Funeral Home, Warsaw, MO.
Lowell E. Cobb, Jr.
(August 30, 1940 - January 29, 2012)
Lowell E. Cobb Jr., age 71, a lifelong resident of Warsaw, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2012, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
Junior, who was the son of Lowell and Letha (Breshears) Cobb, was born August 30, 1940 in Warsaw, delivered by Dr. Guss Salley and his grandmother Ann Cobb. He attended grades 1-5 at Mt. Lasca, a one room school, and grades 6-8 (at R-6, which is now South School). He graduated from Warsaw High School in 1959.
At the age of 14, Junior accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior on September 17, 1954 at Avery Baptist Church.
During high school, he worked at Dyer Groceries.
After graduation, he moved to Kansas City and worked for Dussler Basement Co. He returned to Warsaw and worked for Otasco. He was drafted in 1961, into the United States Army but with the passing of his father, he received an honorable discharge and returned to manage the family farm south of town.
On October 23, 1965, he was united in marriage to Betty Ann Holley of Warsaw. They resided in Warsaw for a short time while he farmed with his father-in-law, Hoyt Seldon Holley. From Warsaw, Junior and Betty made their life-long home on the family farm where they raised two daughters Becky Ann and Bobbi Lynn.
In addition to being a loving, devoted husband, father and Gramps to Markus Lowell and Hannah KayLynn; Junior loved farming his land and tending to his cattle.
Junior was on the advisory boards of the local MFA and USDA Farm Services Agency. He was a director and current president of Southwest Electric Coop, and board member of United Producers, Incorporated. He was board chairman of Farmer’s Mutual Insurance Co. of Benton County, a board member of the Avery Cemetery and current president of the Shawnee Cemetery Association Board.
He had received many awards and honors including the Missouri State Fair Farm Family 1976, Farm Management Recognition COUNTY AWARD 1977 and 1982, 1999 Grassland Farmer of the Year-Benton County Soil and Water Conservation District, Area IV Grassland Farmer-Missouri Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts 2000 and 2000 Grassland Farmer of the Year in Benton County.
He exemplified the qualities of integrity, honesty, humbleness, determination and was always considered a hard worker and a man of his word. Being an organ recipient he promoted and shared the importance of organ donation.
When time would allow, you could find Junior hunting deer, turkey or mushrooms, fishing for crappie or trolling for bass with his grandson or friend. On a cool summers eve Junior could be found sharing hunting adventures and stories of his childhood with much laughter over a bowl of homemade ice cream.
Junior was preceded in death by his daughter, Bobbi Lynn in 1979, a brother, Billy Joe in 2008, an infant sister, Shirley Cobb and his parents, Lowell and Letha Cobb.
Survivors include his wife, Betty of Warsaw; daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Rick Gentry, of Blue Springs; his grandchildren, Markus and Hannah Gentry of Blue Springs; aunt and uncle, Doris and Junior Herbst; a nephew, Tim Cobb of Independence; two nieces, Kim Cobb of Olathe, Kansas and Stefanie Gibbens of the state of Colorado; other relatives and many treasured friends!
Funeral services for Junior Cobb will be at 11:00 A.M., Friday, February 3, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church of Warsaw.
Family will receive friends at the church Friday morning between 9:30 and 10:50 A.M. prior to services.
Burial will be in the Shawnee Cemetery, Warsaw.

Kenyon L. Culton
(April 27, 1958 - January 31, 2012)

Kenyon L. Culton, age 53, of Edwards, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at his home.
He was born on April 27, 1958 in Hemet, California, the son of Joe and Metta Juan Sewell Culton.
He grew up in Hemet, California and enlisted in the United States Air Force at the age of 18, serving four years until his honorably discharge in 1980.
On January 21, 1978, he was united in marriage to Mitzi Crowdes. They made their home at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, California for a short time until moving to Raytown, Missouri, and then in 1988 they moved to Warsaw.
Kenyon was the drummer in the River James Band. His passion was music, whether it was playing it or listening to it. He even caught up with current events while watching Fox News, as he accompanied it to music. He played the drums and shared his love for his faith and music in the Praise Band at the First United Methodist Church of Warsaw. He was baptized there with his daughter, Holly at First United Methodist Church on March 17, 1990.
He is survived by his wife, Mitzi, of the home, two daughters, Holly Culton, of the home and Kenzi Wilson, and her husband J.D., of Warsaw, Missouri, his mother Metta Juan Vigna, of Las Vegas, Nevada, his father, Joe Culton, and his wife Lorraine, of Hemet, California, three brothers, Mike Culton, and his wife Candi, Johnny Culton and his wife, Teresa, and Greg Culton, and his wife Margie, all of Hemet, California, a sister Linda Ruggeiri, and her husband Paul, of Hemet, California, a half-sister Rosie Vigna, of Las Vegas, Nevada, two grandsons John and Bostyn Wilson, of Warsaw, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services for Kenyon L. Culton will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, February 6, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church of Warsaw, with Rev. Eric Derks officiating.
Graveside services and military rites will follow at the Shawnee Cemetery, in Warsaw.
Memorials contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church in care of the Reser Funeral Home, Warsaw, MO.
Rita L. Porter
(August 8, 1939 - May 27, 2012)
Rita L. Porter, age 72, of Warsaw, passed away Sunday, May 27, 2012, at her home.
She was born on August 8, 1939, in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Isidor and Louise Ulrich Staab.
Rita graduated from Lillis Catholic High School in Kansas City, in 1956 and received her RN degree from St. Teresa School of Nursing in 1959.
On September 26, 1959, she was united in marriage to Leo M. Porter in Kansas City, Missouri. Following their marriage, they made their home in Kansas City where Rita worked as a registered nurse at St. Joseph Hospital, Baptist Memorial Hospital and Menorah Hospital. In 1965, she moved with her family to Warsaw. After her children were in school, Rita assisted her husband in the operations of his chiropractic practice.
Rita was an active member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church and for over 45 years, served as the church organist playing for many masses, weddings and funerals. She also was a substitute teacher for the Warsaw School District and had served as Administrator of Oakhaven Nursing Home in Warsaw for several years. She was an avid gardener and a talented seamstress. Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by parents, and one son, Benjamin Porter whom died in infancy and also two infant grandchildren.
Surviving is her husband of over 52 years, Dr. Leo M, of the home, three sons, Dr. Leo I. (Kathryn) Porter of Warsaw, Missouri, Dr. Gerard Porter, (Brenda) of Bolivar, MO, and Dr. Jock (Dr. Cami) Porter of Nixa, Missouri, two daughters, Jennifer Porter RN, of Warsaw, and Roxana Eckhoff (Dustin) of Warsaw, 26 grandchildren and her first great-grandchild on the way.
Also surviving is one sister, Mary Ann Porter of Kansas City, Missouri, and one brother, Frederick Staab of Kansas City, MO, many nieces and nephews, and several special caregivers, especially her niece, Linda Stewart RN and nephew, Steve Porter, who lovingly helped care for Rita during her final illness, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, May 31, 2012, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Warsaw, with Fr. Keith Branson officiating.
1Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Warsaw.
Visitation will be Wednesday evening, from 7:00 to 8:00 PM, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, with rosary to be recited at 8:00 PM.
Memorials may be made to St. Ann’s Youth Group.

Samuel L. Howard

Samuel L. Howard, age 60, of Hermitage, Missouri passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at his home.
He was born on October 11, 1951 in Cross Timbers, Missouri, the son of Clayton Wesley and Martha Aileen (Gates) Howard.
He grew up in Hickory County and graduated from high school in 1971. He then enlisted in the United States Navy serving until his honorable discharge in 1977. Sam was employed with Ford Motor Company as a coordinator and programmer of robotic safety. On July 10, 1999, he was united in marriage to Sheryl Smith; they made their home in the Kansas City area, until returning to Hermitage in 2004.
Sam was a member of the UAB Local #249 and the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, camping, kayaking and photography; however, the most enjoyable time was that spent with his family and grandchildren, whom will miss him dearly.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one son, Aaron Smith and one brother Donald Wesley Howard.
He is survived by his wife Sheryl, of the home, three daughters; Sabrina Voyles, of Hermitage, Lori Benight and her fiancé Chuck Leupold, of St. Joseph, Missouri, and Jesse Hicks and her husband Sgt. Jeffery Hicks, of Ft. Poke, Louisiana, fifteen grandchildren, one sister, Leila Berryman, and her husband Jerry, of Warsaw, Missouri, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services for Samuel L. Howard will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, May 20, 2012 at the Reser Funeral Home, in Warsaw, Missouri.
Visitation will be held Saturday evening from 6:00 until 7:00 P.M.
Burial and Military Rites will be held at the Fairview Cemetery, in Cross Timbers.
Betty A. Teeter
(December 31, 1944 - May 20, 2012)
Betty A. Teeter, age 67, of Warsaw, passed away Sunday, May 20, 2012, at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.
She was born on December 31, 1944, in Warsaw, the daughter of Ted R. and Helen N. House Teeter.
Betty had lived her entire life in Warsaw and graduated from Warsaw High School. She always wore a smile and was very independent regardless of her physical limitations. She enjoyed Elvis music and even got to take a trip to Graceland.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ted and Helen Teeter, a brother, Earl "Corky" Teeter and a brother-in-law, John Cunningham.
Betty is survived by one sister, Carolyn Cunningham, of Warsaw, a brother, Dale "Pete" Teeter, and his wife, Fran, of Springfield, Missouri, several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephew, other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, May 31, 2012, at the Riverside Cemetery in Warsaw, MO.
Body was cremated at Kaysinger Crematory under the direction of the Reser Funeral Home, Warsaw, MO.
