Ken R. Brown
(December 27, 1937 - December 26, 2013)
Kenneth Roger Brown, age 75, of Warsaw, passed away Thursday, December 26, 2013, at Boone Hospital in Columbia, MO.
He was born on December 27, 1937, the son of Earl and Inez Adair Brown.
He grew up near Leeton and graduated from Leeton High School in 1956. He received his Bachelor of Science in Education Degree from the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg.
On November 29, 1958, he was united in marriage to Martha Burford. They made their home in Warrensburg, moving to Warsaw in 1960. Ken and Martha were the proud parents of one son, Bart Brown.
Ken was the industrial arts instructor for Warsaw High School for 8 years. In 1968, he obtained his real estate broker’s license and began Village Realty in Warsaw. Ken was quite involved in the real estate business and operated many rental properties in and around the Warsaw and Sedalia areas.
Ken was very civic minded and loved his home of Warsaw. He had served as City Alderman of Ward I for 20 years and then as the Mayor of Warsaw for two terms. He was a member of the Warsaw First United Methodist Church, the Warsaw Lion’s Club, and had been a Cub Scout Leader as well as an Eagle Scout. He was very involved in politics. He had served as the Benton County Democratic Committee Chairman, on the Democratic Senatorial District # 21 for several years and also the Missouri State Democratic Board for one term. He had served as Chairman of the Whiteman Base Community Council for 12 years and was a member of the State Fair Community College Board of Trustees.
He was preceded in death by his son, Bart Brown, on April 4, 2008.
He is survived by his wife, Martha, of the home, one brother, Dennis Brown of Stover, Missouri, several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services for Ken Brown will be at 11:00 A.M., Monday, December 30, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church of Warsaw, with Rev. Eric Derks officiating.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Warsaw.
Family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 A.M., Monday at the church.
Memorials may be made to the Bart Brown Scholarship Fund at University of Central Missouri in care of the Reser Funeral Home, P.O. Box 910, Warsaw, MO. 65355.

Harry M. "Butch" Matthys

Harry Marshall "Butch" Matthys, age 73, of Warsaw, Missouri, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2013, at the University of Kansas Medical Center, in Kansas City, Missouri.
He was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on December 3, 1940, the son of Marshall Joseph and Clara Alverta Bockhorst Matthys.
He grew up in the metropolitan Kansas City area and graduated from North Kansas City High School in the class of 1958.
On June 3, 1961, he was united in marriage to Carol Diane Bradley at the Winnwood Baptist Church in Kansas City North. Unto this union, two sons were born.
One son, Stephen Marshall Matthys preceded him in death on December 6, 2013.
Butch made his home in Kansas City, and was employed as a plant manager for Graphic Technology Inc. Following his retirement, he moved to his home near Warsaw, Missouri, in 1986.
He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed the time on the waters of Truman Lake and the Lake of the Ozarks. He also enjoyed NASCAR racing and traveled throughout the Midwest and the south to attend numerous NASCAR events.
He was a member of the Winnwood Baptist Church in Kansas City North.
He is survived by one son, Robert Wayne Matthys, of Warsaw, along with two grandchildren, Cassie and Jacob Lee. Other survivors include his life-companion of the past seventeen years, Shirley Church, of Lincoln, Missouri, two sisters, Patricia Bass, and her husband, George, of Rawlings, Wyoming, and Karen Gardner, and her husband, Roger, of Gravois Mills, three brothers, Michael Matthys, and his wife, Shirley, of Jefferson City, Missouri, Kenneth Matthys, of Gravois Mills, and David Matthys, and his wife, Linda, of Liberty, Missouri, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday afternoon at the Reser Funeral Home in Warsaw.
Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 at the funeral home.
After the services, Butch Matthys will be cremated and his ashes will be buried at the Brownington Cemetery at a later date.
Clyde L. Soverns
January 26, 1937 - September 11, 2014

Clyde L. Soverns, age 77, of Edwards, MO, passed away Thursday, September 11, 2014, at his home.
He was born on January 26, 1937, in Kansas City, KS, the son of Harrison and Lula (Law)Soverns.
He grew up in the Kansas City area and on March 10, 1962, was united in marriage to Rose Chandler.
They made their home in Kansas City, where he worked as a laborer. His employment, prior to his retirement, was as a truck dump operator for Harvest State Grain Company in Kansas City, MO.
They moved to their home near Edwards, MO, where he enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He was preceded in death by his parents, ten brothers and one sister, two grandsons, Aaron Mackenzie Koehn and Derek Kenneth Soverns and one granddaughter, Tara Huss.
He is survived by his wife, Rose, of the home, four sons, Rick Pummer of Springfield, MO, Tim Pummer of North Carolina, Andrew Gleichman of the home and David Lee Soverns of Warsaw, two daughters, Jan Brown of Springfield, MO, and Rebecca Koehn of the home, 15 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Also surviving is one sister, Lorriane Mureen of Kansas City, Kansas, other relatives and friends.
Clyde will be cremated by Kaysinger Crematory under the direction of the Reser Funeral Home, Warsaw, MO.
No services are scheduled.

Fauntilla Thompson

Fauntilla Thompson, age 86, of Warsaw, passed away Saturday, September 13, 2014, at the Warsaw Health and Rehab Center.
She was born on March 8, 1928, in Racket, Missouri, the last of ten daughters born to Hugh and Annie Sands Beaman.
She grew up on a farm near Warsaw, and graduated from Warsaw High School. She moved to Kansas City, and attended Beauty School. She had made her home in the Kansas City area, Iowa, and California, before return to Warsaw, in 1965. In the early 1970's, she began working at The Hair Shoppe in Warsaw, and later purchased the shop where she worked until age 78.
Fauntilla was an avid golfer and, when not at work, could be found on the golf course. She was also a member of the Red Hatter's.
She was preceded in death by her parents and nine sisters.
Surviving is her children, a son, Chris Thompson of Kansas City, Missouri, two daughters, Brigitt Lewis of Warsaw and Robin Cooper of Camdenton, four grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Graveside services and interment will be at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, September 17, 2014, at Riverside Cemetery in Warsaw, MO.

Steven Gray Church

Steven G. Church, age 64, of Warsaw, Missouri, passed away Monday, September 15, 2014.
He was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on March 28, 1950, the son of Clifford G. and Betty J. Baldwin Church.
He was raised in Kansas City, and graduated from North East High School there. He went into the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged while serving on Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Nevada. He returned to Kansas City, and was an alumnus of Longview Community College in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. He was a long-time car salesman in Kansas City, selling cars to many loyal customers over the years. He was also an avid fisherman and participated in many bass tournaments, even running several of them. While in Kansas City, he also learned Marine Mechanics and began working on boats. He moved to Warsaw, in the early nineties, so he could fish more and continued to work on boats. He also enjoyed arrowhead hunting and playing golf.
In 1994, he was married to Susan Paxton in Oklahoma, they continued to make their home in Warsaw.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Jamie, and one brother Joel "Butch" Patrick Church.
He is survived by his wife Susan, of the home, a son Steven G. Church, Jr. of Kansas City, four daughters, Michelle Terrell, and her husband Tad, of Harrisonville, Missouri, Cherilyn Rainez, and her husband Dennis, of St. Joseph, Missouri, Andrea Wilson-Naylor, of Kansas City, and Johnna Lauffer, and her husband Jeff, of Springfield, Missouri, eleven grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Graveside services and military honors for Steve will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, September 25, 2014, in the Shawnee Cemetery near Warsaw.

Sharon K. Stoner

Sharon K. Stoner, age 70, of Edwards, Missouri, passed away Friday, September 26, 2014 at her home.
She was born on May 29, 1944 in Antioch, California, the daughter of Walter and Wavel (Thurman) Duerr.
Sharon was a dietary cook at the Warsaw Health & Rehabilitation Center in Warsaw, for several years. She was a dedicated employee who would go the extra mile to help the residents.
She is preceded in death by her parents and one sister Ruthie.
She is survived by her husband Jerry, of the home, three children; Debra Murley and her husband Timothy, of Williamsburg, Virginia, Donna Stephens and her companion Curtis Stalder, of Clinton, Missouri, and B.J. Pycke, of Warsaw, three step-children; Blinda Stoner-Bedell, of Springfield, Missouri, Lisa Stoner-McCoy and her husband Steve, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, and Jerry Stoner, Jr. of Cole Camp, Missouri, eight grandchildren; Desaray, Nathan and Alexzander Pycke, Candace and Mary Hannah Lindsay, Chelsea and Chandler McCoy and Noah Joseph. She is also survived by one brother Donnie Duerr of Independence, Missouri, and one sister Joni Sue Teague, of Arkansas.
Arrangements for her cremation are under the direction of the Reser Funeral Home, of Warsaw, Missouri.
Bobby G. Culpepper

Bobby G. Culpepper, age 74, of Warsaw, passed away Saturday, September 20, 2014 in Van Buren, Missouri.
He was born on August 29, 1940, in Carter County, Missouri, the son of Raymond and Mamie (Bowman) Culpepper.
He grew up in Van Buren and was united in marriage to Katherine Baker on November 19, 1960. They made their home in Kansas City, while he was employed by Ford Motor Company, moving to Warsaw in 1973. Bobby owned and operated Culpepper Plumbing & Electric.
He was a member of the New Home Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother Leroy Culpepper.
He is survived by his wife, Katherine, of the home, four children, Melissa Schmidli, and her husband Mike, of Unionville, Missouri, Laurinda Culpepper, of Overland Park, Kansas, Kelly Culpepper and his wife Tammy, of Lincoln, Missouri, and Ryan Culpepper and his fiancée Sherry, of Warsaw; six grandchildren Kayla Schmidli, of Unionville, Missouri, Clay Schmidli, of Dexter, Missouri, Brandon Culpepper, of Joplin, Missouri, DeAnn Edelstein and her husband Josh of Strafford, Missouri, Staci Sierks and her husband Brandon, of Lincoln, Missouri, and Jason Culpepper and his wife Shyanne, of Sedalia, Missouri, two great-grandchildren, Jourdyn Edelstein and Kennedi Sierks; one brother Ray Culpepper and his wife Barb, of Van Buren, Missouri, and a sister-in-law Wanda Fae Culpepper, of Van Buren, Missouri, other family and friends.
Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at the Reser Funeral Home in Warsaw, with Pastor Barry Edwards, officiating.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Wednesday.
Charles Marvin Burnett

Charles M. Burnett, age 63, of Lincoln, Missouri, passed away early Tuesday morning, September 23, 2014, at the Boone Regional Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.
He was born in Cole Camp, Missouri, on November 14, 1950, the son of Charles Edwin and Letha Marie Ebeling Burnett. He grew up in the Cole Camp community and graduated from Cole Camp High School in the class of 1968.
On October 12, 1973, he was united in marriage to Beverly Jean Witte at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stover, Missouri. Following their marriage, they made their home in Lincoln, Missouri. Unto this union, one son and one daughter were born.
Charlie first worked at the Lincoln Lumber Yard for Bill and Marietta Jaekel until 1981. He then began working at the Benton County Road District in Lincoln, and retired in 2011 as a shift foreman.
He had been baptized and was confirmed on March 2, 1975, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stover, and transferred his membership to the Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln, on October 12, 1981.
Charlie enjoyed working on old tractors and periodically added a new barn to the premises to accommodate his tractors, wagons and old farm machinery. For many years, Charlie kept mules and occasionally entertained himself, his family and friends with a hay ride or a holiday parade. Most of all he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and cherished the activities of Punky and Little Punky.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Bev, of the home, one son, Charles Michael Burnett, of Lincoln, Missouri, and one daughter, Melissa Jean Scheel, and her husband, Roth, of Sedalia, Missouri, and two grandchildren Kylee and Ellen Scheel, of Sedalia. He also, leaves two sisters, Hazel Gardner, and her husband, Roy, of Lincoln, and Linda Anderson, of Concordia, Missouri, one brother, Ernest Burnett, and his wife, Patricia, of Lincoln, many cousins, nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday morning, September 26, 2014, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln, Missouri, with Pastor Leonard Poppe officiating.
Burial will be in the Williams-Union Cemetery near Cole Camp.
There will be a Prayer Service at 6:00 P.M. Thursday evening at the Davis-Miller Funeral Home in Lincoln, with a visitation continuing until 8:00 P.M.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Williams-Union Cemetery Fund or the Mid-Missouri Lutheran Ministries, Inc. and left in care of the Davis-Miller Funeral Home.
