Gene Fair
1929-1999
PRINCETON, Mo. -- Gene Fair, 70, Princeton, died Monday May 17, 1999, at a Kansas City hospital.
Mr. Fair lived in the Kansas City area where he worked for a corrugated box company for many years. After his retirement he returned to Princeton where he made his home with his mother.
Born Feb. 20, 1929, in Mercer County, Mo., Mr. Fair was a graduate of Princeton High School and a veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Fair was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7159 of Princeton.
Mr. Fair was preceded in death by his father, Cleo Shelton.
Surviving: his mother, Majorie Fair, Princeton; his two sisters, Wilma McCulley, St. Joseph, and Iris Lane, Princeton; a brother, Bill Fair, Cainsville, Mo.
Service: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Chapel, Princeton. Burial: Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, northwest of Princeton. Visitation: after 8 a.m. today. There is no scheduled family visitation.
Joanne Fitch
1949-1999
PATTONSBURG, Mo. -- Joanne (Perry) Fitch, 49, Pattonsburg, formerly of Hamilton, Mo., died Friday, May 7, 1999, at a Kansas City, Kan., hospital.
Mrs. Fitch had been a social worker for the county of Los Angeles.
Born in California on Dec. 22, 1949, she was reared in California and had lived in Hamilton for three years before moving to Cameron, Mo., a month ago to live with a daughter, Cynthia Fitch.
She was a high school graduate and attended college for two years. Mrs. Fitch was of the Methodist faith.
On July 16, 1969, she married Donald Fitch in Long Beach, Calif. He survives in Pattonsburg, Mo.
Mrs. Fitch was preceded in death by a son, Joey; her parents, Clarence and Margaret Perry; and a brother, Charles Perry.
Additional survivors: a son, Daniel, Lancaster, Calif.; another daughter, Kristin Culbertson, Ojai, Calif.; and five grandchildren.
Service: 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Brown Funeral Home, Cameron. The body will be cremated following the service. Visitation: after noon Wednesday, at the funeral home.
Kenneth K. Barnett
1939-1999
REDLANDS, Calif. -- Kenneth K. Barnett, 59, Redlands, formerly of St. Joseph, died Wednesday, June 9, 1999, at a health-care center in Redlands.
Born near Stewartsville, Mo., on June 24, 1939, Mr. Barnett had lived most of his life in St. Joseph before moving to California in 1975. He had resided in Blythe, Calif., before moving to Redlands.
He had been a painter and interior decorator most of his life. He attended Lafayette High School in St. Joseph.
Mr. Barnett was preceded in death by his father, Pete.
Surviving: a son, David, Fountain, Colo.; five daughters, Bridgett Harwell, Plano, Texas, Michelle Barnett, St. Joseph, Terri Barnett, Oregon, Mo., Kym Barnett, Wichita, Kan., and Marcia Barnett, Bartlesville, Okla.; his mother, Laura Barnett, Savannah, Mo.; a brother, Mike D., St. Joseph; and seven grandchildren.

Paul Q. Butler
1920-1999
ALBANY, Mo. -- Paul Q. Butler, 79, Albany, died Wednesday, June 9, 1999, at an Albany hospital.
Mr. Butler worked at the Albany ice plant from 1937 to 1940. He then joined the armed forces from 1940-1962. He served in World War II and the Korean War. He retired with a rank of E7 master sergeant.
He became a civilian security guard. In 1967 he joined the Navy Civil Service and retired in 1978.
Born March 13, 1920, in Siloam Springs, Mo., Mr. Butler was a member of the First Baptist Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5329, both of Albany.
On Jan. 18, 1979, he married Geraldine Weese in Albany. She survives of the home.
Mr. Butler was preceded in death by his parents, George and Martha; four brothers, William, Luna, Euel and Orville; and five sisters, Opal Guess, Versa Rainey, Mary Upchurch, Lois Jones and Nola Butler.
Additional survivors: a stepdaughter, Marilyn Hardin; two sisters, Iva Richardson, Springfield, Mo., and Goldie Keebler, Huron, Ohio; three stepgrandchildren; and five step great-grandchildren.

Elsie V. Cornelius

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. -- Elsie Viola (Whiteaker) Cornelius, 77, Independence, formerly of Winston, Mo., died Tuesday, June 8, 1999, at an Independence hospital.
Born on the family farm in Dekalb County, Mo., on April 6, 1922, Mrs. Cornelius was reared there and was a graduate of the Maysville, Mo., high school.
She was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Independence. Mrs. Cornelius also was active in Sunday School activities, Vacation Bible School teaching and Baptist Women's Missionary Union throughout her married life.
On April 18, 1942, she married Elbert L. Cornelius near Maysville. She and her husband, an ordained minister, were associated with the Mount Pleasant Methodist Church, east of Maysville, and for almost 14 years with the First Baptist Church in Winston. In 1980, the couple retired. He survives of the home.
Mrs. Cornelius was preceded in death by her parents, James K. and Pansy B. Whiteaker, and an infant sister, Ruth.
Additional survivors: two daughters, Judith Troncin, Gladstone, Mo., and Elaine Peoples, Titusville, Fla.; two sons, Ron and David, both of Independence; a sister, Frances Ginn, Holt, Mo.; six grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a step great-grandchild.

Alpha Foster

TRENTON, Mo. -- Alpha (Arney) Foster, 90, Trenton, died Thursday, June 10, 1999, at a Trenton health-care center.
Mrs. Foster assisted her husband on the family farm until they started the Foster Grocery Store in Brimson, Mo., until retiring in 1972. Later she worked for the P.N. Hirsch and Dollar General Store in Trenton until retiring in 1993.
Born Sept. 3, 1908, near Brimson, she was a graduate of the Bethany, Mo., high school and attended Kirksville State Teachers College in Kirksville, Mo.
She had taught in a rural school near Brimson for a year.
On Nov. 27, 1928, she married Ward Foster in Gilman City, Mo. He died in 1986.
Mrs. Foster also was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Bessie Arney.
Surviving: two daughters, Ferris Foster, Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Mrs. Ferrill Mitchell, Kansas City; a brother, Glen Arney, Ellisville, Mo.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Service: 10 a.m. Saturday, Resthaven Mortuary, north of Trenton. Burial: Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Trenton. Family visitation: 7 to 8 tonight, at the mortuary.
Dorothy J. Gerard
1926-1999
ATCHISON, Kan. -- Dorothy J. (Day) Gerard, 72, Atchison, died Wednesday, June 9, 1999, at an Atchison hospital.
Mrs. Gerard had been employed as an order clerk for Blish-Mize, in the office of Pillsbury Mills, by the Atchison Daily Globe, Atchison Cable TV office, and as secretary to the superintendent of Atchison Public Schools. In 1988, she retired as accounts payable payroll clerk at Unit Rail Anchor.
Born June 14, 1926, in St. Joseph, she was a graduate of Rushville High School. She was raised in the Bean Lake area. Mrs. Gerard was a member of First Christian Church; Martha Washington chapter, Order of Eastern Star, of which she served as matron and secretary. She was a volunteer reading tutor for Adult Learning Center.
On Aug. 12, 1944, she married William E. Gerard. They lived in the Short Creek community until moving to Atchison in 1953. He survives of the home.
Mrs. Gerard was preceded in death by her parents, John F. and Geraldine Day.

Linda K. Hahn

MAYSVILLE, Mo. -- Linda Kay Hahn, 53, Maysville, died Wednesday, June 9, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Mrs. Hahn had been employed as a clerical secretary for the Crossroads Correctional Center in Cameron, Mo. Before that, she was a secretary for the Gulf Insurance Co. of Kansas City.
Born in Independence on Dec. 28, 1945, she had been a resident of Maysville for 24 years.
Mrs. Hahn was a high school graduate. She was a member of the Restoration Branch of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Maysville, where she taught Sunday School.
On July 12, 1969, she married Richard P. Hahn in Independence. He survives of the home.
Additional survivors: two sons, Steve, Kansas City, and Jeff, Amity, Mo.; a daughter, Lisa Peed, Independence; her mother, Vera Henderson, Independence; a sister, Diane Lynn, Maysville; and six grandchildren.

Albert J. Amrein
1901-1999
ATCHISON, Kan. -- Albert James Amrein, 98, Atchison, died Tuesday, June 29, 1999, at a health-care center in Atchison.
Mr. Amrein worked for the Atchison Police Department from 1950 until retiring in 1970 as desk sergeant. He also worked for the R-K Creamery and Deer Creek Creamery, both of Atchison.
Born in West Point, Neb., on Feb. 13, 1901, he attended schools there. He was a member of St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Atchison.
On Nov. 28, 1922, he married Mary B. Dieter in Madison, Neb. They lived and farmed in Madison until moving to Atchison in 1936. She died in 1995.
Mr. Amrein also was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Anna; and four brothers and three sisters.
Surviving: a son, Edwin J., Atchison; a daughter, Geraldine Amrein, Atchison; a brother, Frank, Tulare, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Fred W. Clark
1919-1999
ATCHISON, Kan. -- Fred W. Clark, 79, Atchison, died Monday, June 28, 1999, at a health-care center in Atchison.
Mr. Clark was a carpenter for several different companies after he returned to Atchison from military service. He also was head of maintenance at Mount St. Scholastica Convent in Atchison until retiring. During World War II, he was a radio operator in the Army.
Born in Atchison on Sept. 10, 1919, he graduated from the Atchison high school.
Mr. Clark was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, where he sang in the choir and was active in Knights of Columbus; American Legion Post No. 6 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1174, all of Atchison; and St. Joseph Amateur Radio Club. He also was active in the Pony Express Council of Boy Scouts of America, St. Joseph, of which he was a Medicine Man in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say, and received the Silver Beaver and St. George Awards.
On Aug. 20, 1947, he married Margaret F. Riddle in Atchison. She survives of the home.
Mr. Clark was preceded in death by his parents, Fred B. and Helen E.; and a brother, Robert.
Additional survivors: two sons, Thomas W., Independence, Mo., and Tony, Liberty, Mo.; a brother, Norvel J., Atchison; a sister, Marybelle Clark, Phoenix; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Viola M. Fahrmeyer

HIAWATHA, Kan. -- Viola M. Fahrmeyer, 95, Hiawatha, formerly of Robinson, Kan., died Monday, June 28, 1999, at the Hiawatha hospital.
Miss Fahrmeyer worked as a housekeeper and then as a seamstress for the Horton Garment Factory in Horton, Kan., until retiring.
Born in Robinson on July 15, 1903, she was reared there. She spent most of her life in Robinson until moving to a health-care center in Hiawatha several years ago.
Miss Fahrmeyer was a graduate of the high school in Robinson and was a member of the Robinson United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William H. and Nellie J. Fahrmeyer; two sisters, her infant twin and Edith Edwards; and three brothers, Ralph, David and Cecil Fahrmeyer.
Surviving: three nephews, David Fahrmeyer Jr. and Ruel Fahrmeyer, both of Robinson, and William Edwards, Slayton, Texas.
Graveside service and burial: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Rose Hill Cemetery, Robinson. Family visitation: 9:30 to 10 a.m. Thursday, at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, Hiawatha. A procession to the cemetery will follow. Also visitation: after noon today at the funeral home. Clifford R. Gentry
1913-1999
PRINCETON, Mo. -- Clifford Ray "Jasper" Gentry, 86, Princeton, died Sunday, June 27, 1999, at a North Kansas City, Mo., hospital.
For 40 years, Mr. Gentry was a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service in Princeton until retiring in 1975. During World War II, he served in the Army.
Born in Princeton on March 5, 1913, he was a lifelong resident of Princeton.
Mr. Gentry was a member of the United Methodist Church, Princeton, where he was the caretaker for 25 years. He also was active in 4-H Club and Boy Scouts of America, of which he was in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say dancers.
On Jan. 2, 1938, he married Maxine Maxwell in Princeton. She survives of the home.
Mr. Gentry was preceded in death by his parents, Millard and Pearl; and a sister, Mary Gentry.
Additional survivors: a daughter, Ann Gentry, Independence, Mo.; a son, Bill, Raymore, Mo.; and two grandchildren.

Kathryn J. Hamilton

Kathryn J. (Young) Hamilton, 73, St. Joseph, died Tuesday, June 29, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Born in Sheridan, Mo., on Aug. 9, 1925, Mrs. Hamilton resided in St. Joseph since 1952.
She was a former member of the Christian Church in Sheridan.
On Jan. 7, 1946, she married Bennie R. Hamilton Sr. in Troy, Kan. He died in 1982.
Mrs. Hamilton also was preceded in death by two daughters, Theresa R. Hamilton and Kathryn Y. Cunningham; her parents, O.A. and Annie Young; and a brother and four sisters.
Surviving: two sons, Robert G. and Bennie R. Jr., both of St. Joseph; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
