Earl R. Owens

HOPKINS, Mo. -- Earl Renfro Owens, 89, Hopkins, died Sunday, June 27, 1999, at the Maryville, Mo., hospital.
Mr. Owens, a retired farmer, was born in Hopkins on Nov. 10, 1909, and was a lifelong resident of the Hopkins area.
He was a graduate of the Portland Christian High School in Louisville, Ky., and was a member of the Hopkins Church of Christ.
On Nov. 26, 1932, he married Anna F. VanNatta in Hopkins. She died in 1997.
Mr. Owens also was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie G.; his parents, Leonard L. and Millie M.; and two brothers, Dale and Carl.
Surviving: three sons, Billy L., Kansas City, Glenn E., Maryville, and Gary E., Hopkins; three daughters, JoAnn Espey, Maryville, Joyce Bregin, Shawnee, Kan., and Judy Samples, Oakdale, La.; a brother, Paul, Hopkins; a sister, Eula Crane, Albuquerque, N.M.; 19 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Harry F. Pfeffer
1921-1999
Harry F. Pfeffer, 77, St. Joseph, died Tuesday, June 29, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Pfeffer was employed by Brinks Inc. for 35 years until retiring in 1985. During World War II and the Korean War, he served in the Marines Corps.
Born in St. Joseph on Nov. 26, 1921, he was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph. He was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church.
On June 7, 1947, he married Patricia I. Richardson. She survives of the home.
Mr. Pfeffer was preceded in death by his parents, Fred W. and Mary Ellen; and three sisters and a brother.
Additional survivor: a brother, Vincent, Blue Springs, Mo.
Service: 1:30 p.m. Friday, St. Paul United Methodist Church, St. Joseph. The body will be taken to the church one hour before the service. Mary Thomas
1912-1999
Mary (Stahlin) Thomas, 86, St. Joseph, died Monday, June 28, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Mrs. Thomas was a secretary for the New York Life Insurance Co. in St. Joseph.
Born in St. Joseph on Oct. 7, 1912, she lived most of her life in St. Joseph until moving to Cincinnati in 1961. She returned to St. Joseph in 1986.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Cathedral in St. Joseph.
In August of 1961, she married Russell Thomas. He died in 1986.
Mrs. Thomas also was preceded in death by her parents, Benedict and Mary Stahlin; and three brothers, Al, Fred and James B. Stahlin.
Surviving: a stepson, Joseph L., Cincinnati; a stepdaughter, Barbara Crissman, Bonita Springs, Fla.; and a sister, Agnes Baun, Elkhorn, Neb.

Robert Farrar
1921-1999
LIBERTY, Mo. -- Robert King Farrar, 77, Liberty, formerly of Braymer, Mo., died Saturday, June 19, 1999, at his home.
Mr. Farrar had owned a Western Auto Store, Eagle Grove, Iowa, and had worked in the insurance business. He also served in the Navy during World War II.
Born Nov. 30, 1921, in Braymer, he attended schools in the Braymer area. He went on to attend William Jewell College, Liberty, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Order. Following graduation, he attended Midshipman's School in Chicago.
Mr. Farrar was a member of the Braymer C-4 School Board; Caldwell County (Mo.) School Board; Evergreen Cemetery Board; Braymer City Council; Braymer first Baptist Church, where he was a trustee; Masonic Lodge; and Tweedie-Murray American Legion, Post No. 117.
In 1947, he married Maxine Mackie of Kirksville, Mo. After their marriage, they lived in Eagle Grove until 1954, when they returned to Braymer. His wife, Maxine, survives.
Mr. Farrar was preceded in death by his parents, Opal and David I.
Additional survivors: a daughter, Susan von Gremp, Bentonville, Ark.; a son, William D., Liberty; and three grandchildren.

ATCHISON, Kan. -- Brianna Lynette Faye Horton, 2-month- old daughter of Johnnie W. and Amanda D. Horton, Atchison, died Saturday, June 19, 1999, at a Kansas City hospital.
Brianna was born on April 13, 1999, in St. Joseph.

Fred C. Howard Jr.

CUMMINGS, Kan. -- Fred C. Howard Jr., 78, rural Cummings, died Saturday, June 19, 1999, at an Atchison, Kan., hospital.
Mr. Howard was a lifelong farmer in the Cummings community.
Born May 26, 1921, near Cummings, he attended Atchison High School.
Mr. Howard was a member of Atchison First Christian Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred C. and Nellie M.; and two sisters, Ruth Easter and Helen Domann.
Surviving: a nephew, Gary Easter, Rushville, Mo.; a niece, Karen S. Chrisco, Topeka, Kan.; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Genie L. Jones

WEATHERFORD, Texas -- Genie L. Jones, 61, Weatherford, formerly of the St. Joseph area, died Friday, June 18, 1999, at a Fort Worth, Texas, hospital.
Mr. Jones had worked for the Missouri Highway Department in the St. Joseph area for 10 years before becoming a truck driver for Yellow Freight Trucking.
He was born Sept. 29, 1937, in Carroll County, Mo.
Mr. Jones was a member of the Baptist faith.
He married his wife, Sue, on Dec. 23, 1967, in Carrolton, Mo. She survives of the home.
Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his mother; stepfather; and grandparents.

Amanda L. Kramer

JAMESPORT, Mo. -- Amanda Lucille (Yutzy) Kramer, 79, Jamesport, died Sunday, June 20, 1999, at a Chillicothe, Mo., hospital.
Mrs. Kramer, a homemaker, was born July 6, 1919, on a farm near Plain City, Ohio. She was raised in the Plain City area and attended rural schools in Madison County, Ohio.
On Sept. 18, 1941, she married Ralph W. Kramer in Plain City. The couple farmed near Plain City until moving to Jamesport in 1966. They farmed in Daviess County, Mo., near Jamesport, for more than 33 years. He survives of the home.
Mrs. Kramer was a member of the Old Order Amish, Jamesport.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Katie Yutzy; two sisters, Edna Helmuth and Emma Yutzy; two brothers, Eli and Gideon Yutzy; and three grandchildren.

Thelma C. Neal

CAMERON, Mo. -- Thelma Celia (Smith) Neal, 91, Cameron, died Saturday, June 19, 1999, at a Cameron hospital.
Mrs. Neal had worked as a practical nurse for a health-care center in Maysville, Mo. She also had been employed by the International Shoe Co., Hamilton, Mo., for 13 years, and Baker's Drug Store, Hamilton.
Born Dec. 7, 1907, in Albany, Mo., she attended Stewartsville, Mo., schools. She lived in Cameron for the past 27 years, moving there from a farm near Osborn, Mo.
Mrs. Neal was a member of the Cameron First Baptist Church.
On Nov. 1, 1923, she married Charles Neal in Osborn. He died in 1990.
Mrs. Neal was preceded in death by her parents, Giles and Carrie Smith; four brothers; and three sisters.
Surviving: three sons, Kenneth, Raytown, Mo., Norval, Branson, Mo., and Norman, Plano, Ill.; a daughter, Marilyn Speck, Tucson, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Audra M. Smith

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Audra Marie (Cook) Woodard Smith, 89, Des Moines, formerly of Harrison and Worth counties, Mo., died Saturday, June 19, 1999, at a Des Moines hospital.
Mrs. Smith, a homemaker, was born Aug. 29, 1909, in Harrison County. She lived in Minburn, Iowa, for 10 years before moving to Des Moines.
She was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church, Martinsville, Mo.
On April 11, 1942, she married her second husband, Elmo L. Smith. He died in 1962.
Mrs. Smith also was preceded in death by her first husband, Chester Woodard; her parents, Amos and Kate M. Cook; a brother, Oval Cook; and a sister, Voda Whipple.
Surviving: two sons, Bobby Woodard, Cleveland, Ohio, and Benny Woodard, Perry, Iowa; three daughters, Helen Clark, Green Forest, Ark., Phyllis Neff, Grant City, Mo., and Leona Payne, Minburn; a sister, Mildred Brazzell, Martinsville; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

Robert E. Werner

SALEM, Neb. -- Robert E. Werner, 73, northeast of Salem, died Saturday, June 19, 1999, at his home.
Mr. Werner, a farmer, had owned and operated Star Mail Route for 40 years. He also served in the Army during World War II.
Born July 4, 1925, near Salem, he was a lifelong resident of the Salem area. He was a graduate of Salem High School and attended Midland College, Fremont, Neb., for two years.
Mr. Werner was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Falls City, Neb., where he served on the church council and sang in the choir. He also was a member of BPO Elk's Lodge No. 963, Falls City.
On Nov. 20, 1949, he married Colleen M. Carlson in Falls City. She survives of Salem.
Mr. Werner was preceded in death by his parents, Charles F. and Elizabeth A.

Loretta Lorene (Boone) Burkart, 77, St. Joseph, died Saturday, June 26, 1999, at a St. Joseph health-care center.
Mrs. Burkart was employed by the J.C. Penney store until retiring in 1972.
Born in Trenton, Mo., on July 24, 1921, she lived most of her life in St. Joseph.
She was a member of the Hyde Valley United Methodist Church, St. Joseph, where she was active in Alpha Circle and Quilters; and the Parent-Teacher Association.
Mrs. Burkart was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, in 1995; a son, Harry O. Harvey; her parents, Odis and Emma Boone; two brothers, Junior and Eugene Boone; and a sister, Juanita Harper.
Surviving: two daughters, Linda Weiser and Sandra Noeth, both of St. Joseph; two brothers, Harold Boone, Tipton, Mo., and Jim Boone, Foss, Okla.; two sisters, Lillian Stubbs, Sedalia, Mo., and Madolyn Marshall, Conway, Mo.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
