Robert S. Hawkins
1915-1999
CHILLICOTHE, Mo. -- Robert Sturges Hawkins, 83, Chillicothe, died Wednesday, June 30, 1999, at a health-care center in Chillicothe.
Mr. Hawkins and Bill Kendall, co-owned and operated H&K; Wholesale Electric Supply in Chillicothe, from which he retired in 1985. He also worked for William Volker and Co. in Kansas City, and in 1941, was transferred to Houston, Texas.
During World War II, he served in the Army from 1945 to 1946. While in the Army, he attended finance school, and was finance technical clerk for the finance disbursing section in Marseilles, France.
Born in Chillicothe on July 2, 1915, he was a graduate of the Chillicothe high school and spent two years in the Civil Conservation Camp. He also attended the Chillicothe Business College.
While in Kansas City, Mr. Hawkins attended a junior college and Southwest School of Law in Houston. In 1960, he moved to Chillicothe.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Chillicothe.
On Nov. 16, 1935, he married Darlene Crane in Trenton, Mo. She survives of the home.
Mr. Hawkins was preceded in death by a son, Richard C.; his parents, Stephen E. and Anna L.; three sisters, Alice Borchert, June Williams and Dorothy Brasch; and two brothers, Spencer and Stephen.
Additional survivors: a son, Robert S. II, Bedford, Texas; a daughter, Patricia Deklotz, Atkins, Iowa; and four grandchildren.
Service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, United Methodist Church, Chillicothe. Burial: Edgewood Cemetery, Chillicothe. Alice M. Hoshor
1913-1999
Alice M. (Alexander) Hoshor, 86, St. Joseph, formerly of Savannah, Mo., died Tuesday, June 29, 1999, at a St. Joseph health-care center.
Mrs. Hoshor taught elementary school in Guilford, Mo., and on the secondary school level in Westboro and Graham, Mo., and Savannah.
Born in Hopkins on April 9, 1913, she was a lifelong resident of the Hopkins, Mo., Westboro, Graham and Savannah areas.
Mrs. Hoshor was a graduate of the Hopkins high school; and earned a bachelor's degree in home economics from Northwest Missouri State Teachers College in Maryville, and a master's degree in food and nutrition from the University of Iowa City, Iowa.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Savannah.
On Feb. 17, 1946, she married Charles F. Hoshor. He died in 1993.
Mrs. Hoshor also was preceded in death by two stepsons, Dean and Charles W.; a stepdaughter, Mary Jane Laur; her parents, W.W. and Ada E. Alexander; and a brother, Earl R. Alexander.
Surviving: a brother, Robert L. Alexander, Hopkins; 15 stepgrandchildren; 21 step great-grandchildren; and two step great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial service: 2 p.m. Saturday, Breit & Hawkins Funeral Home, Savannah. The body will be cremated. Inurnment: at a later date in the Salem Cemetery, Barnard, Mo. Thomas A. Klemme
1951-1999
HOLT, Mo. -- Thomas A. Klemme, 48, Holt, died Wednesday, June 30, 1999, at his residence.
Mr. Klemme worked for M&M; Sales in Excelsior Springs, Mo., for 10 years. He also owned and operated the Klemme Small Engine Repair in Holt.
Born in Wisconsin on June 11, 1951, he was a member of the Catholic faith.
He was preceded in death by a grandchild.
Surviving: his wife, the former Sharon Hankins of the home; a daughter, Jennifer Klemme, Missouri City, Texas; his parents, Ardell and Jeanette; a brother, Steve, Honolulu; a sister, Marie Reuth, Loyal, Wis.; and nine stepgrandchildren.
The body has been donated to the research department of the University of Kansas, Lawrence. Arrangements were by the Morris Bailey Chapel, Holt. Memorials may be made in his memory in care of the Lathrop Bank in Holt.
James H. McDowell
1924-1999
CRAIG, Mo. -- James H. McDowell, 74, Craig, died Tuesday, June 29, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Mr. McDowell was employed by the Firestone Tire Co. in South Gate, Calif. He did general construction work until retiring in 1965. During World War II, he served in the Navy and received two Bronze Stars.
Born in Quitman, Mo., on Sept. 30, 1924, he moved to South Gate after his military service and to Craig in 1980.
Mr. McDowell was a graduate of the Skidmore, Mo., high school. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and Story-Hardin American Legion Post No. 164, both of Craig.
On June 14, 1946, he married Marjorie Heine in Huntington Park, Calif. She survives of the home.
Mr. McDowell was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Opal.
Additional survivors: three sons, Donald and Walter, both of Dallas, and James R., Craig; three daughters, Janice Rehm and Sandra Freeman, both of Craig, and Betty Bomar, Mound City, Mo.; two sisters, Betty J. Couckburn, Edgewood, Wash., and Patricia Sprague, Tucson, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Maud Betz
1908-1999
CHILLICOTHE, Mo. -- Maud (Anderson) Betz, 90, Chillicothe, formerly of Galt, Mo., died Thursday, July 1, 1999, at a retirement home in Chillicothe.
Mrs. Betz was an elementary school teacher in the Grundy County, Mo., R-5 School System for over 22 years until retiring in 1972. She taught elementary school at the Mud College, East Fairview, No Creek and Denslow country schools, all in Grundy County, Mo., before teaching mainly fourth grade at Galt in 1950.
Born on a farm north of Galt on Oct. 5, 1908, she was reared on a farm north of Galt.
Mrs. Betz graduated from the Trenton, Mo., high school; and Trenton Junior College; and earned a bachelor of science degree in elementary and secondary education from the University of Missouri in Columbia. She was a member of the Galt United Methodist Church; and Zeta Tau Alpha and Phi Mu Epsilon sororities.
On Dec. 2, 1933, she married Leland Betz. They made their home on a farm in Marengo, Iowa, for 51/2 years, and returned to a farm north of Galt in 1939 and moved into Galt in 1949. He died in 1978. She resided at a Chillicothe retirement home since 1998.
Mrs. Betz also was preceded in death by her parents, George M. and Osceola Anderson; two sisters, Amber Anderson and Cathryn Howerton; and two brothers, Vernon and Paul C. Anderson.
Surviving: two daughters, Margaret Coffin, Galt, and Barbara Todd, Anaheim, Calif.; a brother, Dale Anderson, Galt; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and five step great-grandchildren.

Peggy J. Dodd
1927-1999
CAMERON, Mo. -- Peggy Joyce (Myers) Dodd, 71, Cameron, died Thursday, July 1, 1999, at her home.
Mrs. Dodd, a homemaker, also owned and operated with her husband, Gilbert, the Dodd and Son Brick Masons in Cameron. She was still operating the business.
Born in Kennett, Mo., on Sept. 5, 1927, she resided in Kansas City, Kan., before moving to Cameron 36 years ago.
Mrs. Dodd was a member of the Barwick United Methodist Church near Cameron.
On March 8, 1947, she married Gilbert Dodd in Flint, Mich. He died in February of 1999.
Mrs. Dodd also was preceded in death by her parents, James and Cora A. Myers; and two sisters, Mary N. Garrett and Lea Newcomb.
Surviving: a son, Dennis, Cameron; three daughters, CoAnn McCary, Cameron, Debbie Hulver, Concordia, Mo., and Laurie Webb, Pattonsburg, Mo.; a brother, Bob Myers, Flint; two sisters, Ione Garrett and Terrie Dodd, both of Flint; and six grandchildren.

Clinton L. Edwards

ARIZONA CITY, Ariz. -- Clinton Lee Edwards, 24, Arizona City, formerly of Maysville, Mo., drown Monday, June 28, 1999, in a swimming accident in Roosevelt Lake in Arizona City.
Mr. Edwards was a volunteer youth director and Sunday school teacher at the Baptist Church in Arizona City, where he also was a member of the choir.
Born in Cameron, Mo., on June 27, 1975, he was a resident of Maysville before moving to Arizona City six months ago.
Mr. Edwards was a graduate of the Winston, Mo., high school. He was a former member of the Baptist Church at Maysville.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, I.J. and Irmina Clark; and paternal grandfather, Herbert Edwards.
Surviving: his parents Carl and Sharon, Arizona City; two brothers, Aaron, Cameron, and Larry, Bossier, La.; a sister, Tracey Godley, Maysville; and paternal grandmother, Marie McLaughlin, Cameron.

Walter J. Grathouse
1943-1999
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Walter Jerome "Jerry" Grathouse, 56, Columbus, formerly of St. Joseph, died Saturday, June 19, 1999, at a hospital in Columbus.
Mr. Grathouse was a business systems analyst for Bank One-I.B.M. in Columbus for four years. Before that, he was president of data processing at the Laurel Bank in Kansas City, Mo., and vice-president of data processing at the American National Bank in St. Joseph.
Born in Kansas City, Kan., on April 7, 1943, he lived in Kansas City, Mo., before moving to St. Joseph in 1985; Oklahoma City, Okla., in 1990 and Columbus four years ago.
Mr. Grathouse was a graduate of the Wyandotte High School in Kansas City, Kan.; and attended Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, for three years.
He was a member of the Forrest Edge Assembly of God Church in Columbus and attended the Caring First Assembly of God Church of St. Joseph.
On June 20, 1964, he married Carol V. Ressler in Shippensburg, Pa. She survives of the home.
Additional survivors: a son, Todd, Columbus; two daughters, Stacy Davison, Kansas City, Mo., and Heidi Grathouse, Chicago; his mother and stepfather, Lorraine and Frank Felix, Kansas City, Kan.; a brother, J. Rick Felix, Shawnee, Kan.; and five grandchildren.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, June 23, at the Park Hill Funeral Home, Westerville, Ohio. Burial was in the Northlawn Memorial Garden of Westerville.
Mary E. Loney
1922-1999
ELWOOD, Kan. -- Mary E. (Johnson) Loney, 77, Elwood, died Thursday, July 1, 1999, at her residence after a lengthy illness.
Born in Muscotah, Kan., on Feb. 7, 1922, Mrs. Loney, a homemaker, moved to Elwood in 1954. She was of the Baptist faith.
She married Robert Loney in St. Joseph. He died in 1979.
Mrs. Loney also was preceded in death by a son, Albert R. Osborne; her parents, A.H. and Martha J. Johnson; three brothers, Lloyd, Fred and Tom Johnson; and a grandchild.
Surviving: six daughters, Shirley I. Jensen and Janice J. Hildreth, both of Elwood, Mary Jane Lewis, Knoxville, Ark., Roberta L. Kidd, Anderson, Mo., and Dorothy L. Wilson and Nancy Silvey, both of St. Joseph; four sons, John N. and Rick Osborne, both of Elwood, Thomas O. Osborne, Noel, Mo., and Arnold O. Jensen, St. Joseph; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Graveside service and burial: 10:30 a.m. today, Bellemont Cemetery, Wathena. Kan. There will be no public visitation. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Associaton or American Kidney Foundation in care of the Harman-Rohde Funeral Home, P.O. Box 426, Wathena, KS, which is handling the arrangements.
William E. Pavlovich
1915-1999
ATCHISON, Kan. -- William E. Pavlovich, 83, Atchison, died Thursday, July 1, 1999, at a health-care center in Atchison.
Mr. Pavlovich was employed in the kitchens of Kansas City hotels for several years. From 1941 to 1944, he served in the Army and received numerous medals, including a Purple Heart.
Born in Marceline, Mo., on July 16, 1915, he returned to Kansas City after military service.
In 1950, he married Elizabeth Jennings. They were later divorced. In March of 1956, he married Helen Patton. She died in 1980.
Mr. Pavlovich also was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Josephine; and three brothers and a sister.
Surviving: a daughter, Bridgette Lutz, Atchison; and a grandchild.
Service: 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home, Atchison. Burial: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Mount Moriah Cemetery, Kansas City, Mo. Family visitation: one hour before the service at the funeral home.
Donald L. Price
1909-1999
MARYVILLE, Mo. -- Donald Leroy Price, 90, Maryville, died Friday, July 2, 1999, at a health-care center in Maryville.
Mr. Price owned and operated the Price Radio and TV Repair in Maryville until retiring in 1980. During World War II, he served in the Army.
Born in Clearmont, Mo., on April 17, 1909, he was a lifelong resident of the Maryville area.
Mr. Price was a graduate of the Maryville high school and attended the Rolla School of Mines at Rolla, Mo. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church at Maryville.
On Feb. 2, 1931, he married Julia C. Aley in Hiawatha, Kan. She survives of the home.
Mr. Price was preceded in death by his parents, William G. and Sadie M.; two brothers, Carl H. and John W.; and two sisters, Elizabeth Allen and Emma J. Price.
Additional survivors: two sons, Doug, McLean, Va., and John, Boone, N.C.; a brother, James, North Platte, Neb.; two sisters, Mary Reid, Blue Springs, Mo., and Dorothy Vanek, Euclid, Ohio; four grandchildren.

Lou Tilley

DETROIT, Mich. -- Lou (Burgin) Tilley, 88, Detroit, formerly of Bethany, Mo., died Wednesday, June 30, 1999, at a health-care center in Detroit.
Born in Harrison County, Mo., on Aug. 25, 1910, Mrs. Tilley was a former homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Pierce Tilley; her parents, Henry and Etta Burgin; two sisters, Arloa Dillinger and Marie Pack; and a brother, Herschel Burgin.
Surviving: two nieces, Juanita Woodward, McFall, Mo., and Martha L. Prather, Bethany; and a nephew, Victor Burgin, Albany, Mo.
