Stephen C. Meyer

HIAWATHA, Kan. -- Stephen C. Meyer, 74, rural Hiawatha, died Friday, July 9, 1999, at a Kansas City, Kan., hospital.
Mr. Meyer, a farmer, raised livestock and sold Garst seed for 17 years.
Born Sept. 28, 1924, on a farm northwest of Hiawatha, he lived on the same farm his entire life. He was a graduate of Hamlin (Kan.) High School.
Mr. Meyer was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and St. Paul Lutheran Church, both of Fairview, Kan.; Hamlin School Board; and Walnut Township (Kan.) Watershed Board.
On Oct. 6, 1949, he married Helen Thompson in Hiawatha. She survives of the home.
Mr. Meyer was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Roberta Heineman; his parents, Edward and Rosa; three brothers; and three sisters.
Additional survivors: a son, Douglas, Hiawatha; two brothers, Harlan, Hamlin, and Edward Jr., Fairview; and a grandchild.
Service: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, St. Paul Lutheran Church, Fairview. Burial: Mount Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha. Jean E. Morrison
1946-1999
SENECA, Kan. -- Jean Ellen (Strohmeyer) Morrison, 52, Seneca, died Saturday, July 10, 1999, at a Seneca health-care center.
Ms. Morrison had been employed as an administrative assistant at a military defense plant in San Diego.
Born Sept. 13, 1946, in Seneca, she was a graduate of Peoria (Ill.) High School. In 1982, she moved to San Diego. Later, she moved to Seneca with her parents due to the progression of multiple sclerosis, a disease she was diagnosed with in 1984. After her parents died, she moved back to California with her sons, returning to Seneca in May 1999.
Ms. Morrison was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Church, Seneca, and St. Ann's Altar Society, of the church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene J. and Wanda Strohmeyer.
Surviving: two sons, Brian and Brad Wink, both of San Diego; a sister, JoAnn Seyller, Harvard, Ill.; and two grandchildren.

Elaine E. Pratt

Elaine E. "Tante" Pratt, 80, St. Joseph, died Saturday, July 10, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Ms. Pratt had been employed in the insurance industry for 55 years and retired as office manager for Lucas Insurance Agency. She later managed the Bishop LeBlond High School, St. Joseph, cafeteria for eight years.
Born Nov. 12, 1918, near Albany, Mo., she lived in Albany before moving to St. Joseph in 1931. She was a graduate of Central High School, St. Joseph.
Ms. Pratt was a member of Wyatt Park Christian Church, St. Joseph, where she held various offices including singing in the choir and supervising the Little Toddlers group. She was a member of the St. Joseph Chapter of Sweet Adelines and of the Pony Express Chapter of the American Business Women's Association, where she was voted Woman of the Year in 1982. She was also a member of the 5th Wheel Bridge Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Warren T. and Hazel M.

Ervin E. Rea Jr.

BRAYMER, Mo. -- Ervin Ellis Rea Jr., 40, Braymer, died Friday, July 9, 1999, in Kansas City.
Mr. Rea worked for Parsec Inc., Kansas City, for the past four years. He also had served in the Army from 1978 to 1983.
Born Aug. 15, 1958, in Huntington Beach, Calif., he was a graduate of Granite City High School.
Mr. Rea was a member of Beacon Baptist Church, Kansas City.
On June 16, 1979, he married April R. Dial in Kansas City. She survives of the home.
Mr. Rea was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy L.; a sister, Bonnie Pearl; and his grandparents.

The Rev. Clarence Ryan

LEXINGTON, Mo. -- The Rev. Clarence Robert "Clancy" Ryan, 68, Lexington, formerly of St. Joseph and Maryville, Mo., died Saturday, July 10, 1999, at his home.
The Rev. Ryan served as assistant pastor at various Catholic churches in Kansas City, Liberty, Maryville and St. Joseph, Mo., and served as administrator for churches in Liberty, Kansas City and Maysville, Mo. He also served as pastor at Gallatin, Harrisonville and Lexington, Mo., Catholic churches from 1981 until his retirement in 1993.
Born July 11, 1930, in Kansas City, he was ordained to the priesthood in 1956 at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception, Kansas City.
The Rev. Ryan was active in the Migrant Worker Program, Lexington.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence S. and Pearl; and a sister.
Surviving: a brother in Kansas City; a sister in California; and Opal Currier who cared for him.

TARKIO, Mo. -- Artela Viola (Lowery) Summa, 81, Tarkio, died Friday, July 9, 1999, at an area health-care center.
Mrs. Summa, a homemaker, was born Sept. 23, 1917, in Pattonsburg, Mo. She moved to Hollister, Calif., in 1942, Gentry, Mo., in 1955, and Ravenwood, Mo., in 1966.
She was a member of the Ravenwood Christian Church and the Golden Age Club, Ravenwood.
On Feb. 24, 1935, she married Lionel G. Summa in Pattonsburg. He died in 1978.
Mrs. Summa also was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Elda, Hobert, Pearly and Albert Lowery; a grandchild; and a great-grandchild.
Surviving: four sons, Gerald, Mount Ayr, Iowa, Vern, Tarkio, Clyde, Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Floyd, Rayville, Mo.; two sisters, Clara Macrander, Gallatin, Mo., and Goldena Macrander, Altamont, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Mildred Vanschoiak

MEXICO, Mo. Mildred "Mickey" (Elliott) Hanon Vanschoiak, 88, Mexico, formerly of St. Joseph and Savannah, Mo., died Friday, July 9, 1999, at a Mexico hospital.
Mrs. Vanschoiak had worked for St. Joseph Paper Box Co. in St. Joseph.
Born Nov. 11, 1910, in Tarkio, Mo., she lived most of her life in St. Joseph and Savannah. She moved to Mexico in 1996.
In 1933, she married her first husband, Ogden L. Hanon. He preceded her in death. On July 5, 1955, she married Kenneth A. Vanschoiak in St. Joseph. He died in 1998.
Mrs. Vanschoiak also was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Elliott; a brother, Fred Elliott; and two sisters, Lyla Bridges and Leona Newcomer.
Surviving:a daughter, Sherry King, Mexico; a brother, J.D. Elliott Sr., Tucson, Ariz.; four sisters, Fern Myers, Ozark, Mo., Norma Gray, Cabool, Mo., Lois Barclay, Kingsburg, Calif., and Mayme Brown, Collegedale, Tenn.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Mary Lu Anderson

TRENTON, Mo. -- Mary Lu (Pumroy) Anderson, 66, Trenton, died Saturday, July 10, 1999, at a hospital in Liberty, Mo.
Mrs. Anderson volunteered at the Church Women United Thrift Store.
Born Jan. 29, 1933, in Ottumwa, Iowa, she graduated from high school there.
Mrs. Anderson was a member of the Trenton First Christian Church and the Ladies Elks.
On April 23, 1954, she married Robert Anderson in Ottumwa. They lived all but six months of their marriage in Trenton, where he survives of the home.
Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by her parents, Levi and Mary Pumroy; and a brother, Paul Pumroy.

Mrs. Berry was a housekeeper for the Golden Age Nursing Home in Braymer, Mo.
Born Dec. 19, 1934, in Vibbard, Mo., she was a member of the St. Ann's Catholic Church, Excelsior Springs.

DAVENPORT, Iowa -- Elsie M. (McCauley) Conway, 85, Davenport, formerly of St. Joseph and Rea, Mo., died of cancer Saturday, July 10, 1999, at a Davenport medical center.
Mrs. Conway, a homemaker, was a graduate of the Rosendale (Mo.) High School.
Born March 19, 1914, in Rea, she lived in St. Joseph, Tulsa, Okla., and New York City before moving to Davenport in 1950.
Mrs. Conway was a member of the First Baptist Church, Whitesville, Mo., the Quad City Plus 60 Club and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary No. 235, both of Davenport; and the Moline (Ill.) Senior Citizens.
On Dec. 19, 1935, she married Glen C. Conway in St. Joseph. He died in 1968.
Mrs. Conway also was preceded in death by her parents, Noah and Florence McCauley; two brothers, Harry and Norris McCauley; and two sisters, Gladys McCauley and Nina Knappenberger.

CHILLICOTHE, Mo. -- Anna Kathryn (Flesher) Cramer, 93, Chillicothe, died Sunday, July 11, 1999, at a Chillicothe retirement village.
Born Dec. 10, 1905, in Trenton, Mo., she was a member of the Chillicothe United Methodist Church and the Naomi Ruth Circle of the church.
On Sept. 9, 1925, she married Frank Cramer. He died in 1997.
Mrs. Cramer also was preceded in death by a daughter, Jean A. Burgess; her parents, Eugene W. and Ollie M. Flesher; two brothers; and a sister.
Surviving: a son, Frank, Naples, Fla.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Betty J. (Klawuhn) Riggs, 75, St. Joseph, died Monday, July 12, 1999, at her home.
Mrs. Riggs, a retired registered nurse, was born in Elwood, Kan., on March 4, 1924, and had lived in Clarksdale, Mo., prior to moving to St. Joseph 46 years ago.
She was a graduate of the Elwood high school and St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. Riggs was a member of the Clair United Methodist Church in St. Joseph.
Mrs. Riggs was preceded in death by her husband, James M., in 1996; and her parents, Albert and Jessie Klawuhn.
Surviving: five sons, Daniel T., Cosby, Mo., Keith D. and Kenneth W., both of St. Joseph, Michael A., Fillmore, Mo., and James M. Jr., Olathe, Kan.; a daughter, Patricia L. Moloney, Sydney, Australia; two brothers, Albert Klawuhn, St. Joseph, and Jim Klawuhn, Rushville, Mo.; a sister, Genevieve Cook, St. Joseph; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mary A. Robinson

MERCER, Mo. Mary Augusta "Dot" (Gibson) Robinson, 84, Mercer, died Sunday, July 11, 1999, at a Chillicothe, Mo. hospital.
Born April 2, 1915, near Mercer, Mo., Mrs. Robinson lived most of her life in Mercer County, Mo., except for one year in Davenport, Iowa and one year in Roundup, Mont.
Mrs. Robinson was a charter member of Somerset Club, a member of Mercer Lions Club Ladies, and the Mercer, Mo. United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Women's Fellowship Group. She had served as secretary/treasurer of the Wilder Cemetery Association and had been a correspondent for the Post-Telegraph of Princeton, Mo.
On Dec. 21, 1935, she married Pete Robinson. He died in 1992.
Mrs. Robinson also was preceded in death by her son, Raymond; her parents, Robert L. and Iona M. Gibson; and an infant brother, James.
Surviving: a daughter, Roberta Searcy, Princeton, Mo.; three sisters, Nellie McCarty, Indianola, Iowa, Pauline Puffer, Mercer, Mo., and Maxine Dykes, Utica, Iowa; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
