PLATTE CITY, Mo. Walter S. "Sam" Searcy, 80, Platte City, died Monday, July 12, 1999, at a Platte City health-care center.
Mr. Searcy was a mechanic for Trans World Airlines for 21 years, retiring in 1984.
Born May 12, 1919, in Weston, Mo., Mr. Searcy was a Nayv veteran of World War II.
Mr. Searcy was a member of the New Market, Mo., Christian Church.
Mr. Searcy was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy E. Searcy in 1997, a daughter, Patricia Powell; a brother, Warren; a half-sister, Addie M. Peach.
Surviving: two sons, Gearld T., Detroit, Mich., and Walter J., Turney, Mo.; a daughter, Carolyn A. Stubbs, Platte City, Mo.; a brother, Harold Searcy, Dearborn, Mo.; two sisters, Bonnie Goodlet, Dearborn, Mo., and Edith Stickrod, Shawnee, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Winnifred N. West
1923-1999
DIAMOND CITY, Ark. Winnifred Norma (Dotson) West, 76, Diamond City, formerly of Mt. Vernon, Mo., died Saturday, July 10, 1999, at a Harrison, Ark. hospital.
Born Jan. 19, 1923, in St. Joseph, Mo., Mrs. West, a homemaker and LPN, lived on a dairy farm near Mt. Vernon, Mo. In 1979 they moved to Diamond City, Ark. where they owned and operated a fishing resort/motel until retiring in 1993.
Survivors: her husband, Leonard W. West of the home; a son, Leonard Jr., Festus, Mo.; a sister, Wilma Smith, St. Joseph; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Everett W. Wheelock Jr.
1911-1999
BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS, -- Everett Wilford Wheelock Jr., 88, Brownsville, died Friday, July 9, 1999, in a Brownsville health-care center.
Mr. Wheelock was co-owner of Wheelock Brothers truck Line of Kansas City. He retired to Brownsville about 1965.
Born June 20, 1911, in Kansas City, Kan., Mr. Wheelock owned a house at the Lake of the Ozarks.
Mr. Wheelock was a member of United Methodist Church of Brownsville, Lower Rio Grande Valley Power Squadron, Corpus Christi Power Squadron, Admiral in Texas Navy, Service Corp of Retired Executives, and Association of U.S. Small Business Administration. He was also a member of Middlewest Motorfreight Bureau, Kiwanis, Crimestoppers, National Rifle Association and Trustee of Village Oaks.
On Jan. 31, 1933, he married June Jeffress in Kansas City, Mo. She died in 1988.
Mr. Wheelock also was preceded in death by a son, Everett the III; his parents, Everett Sr. and Maud D; four brothers and a sister.
Surviving: a daughter, Sharon Lyons, Weston, Mo.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

CHILLICOTHE, Mo. Joshua Wade "Woody" Wood-Underwood, 16, Chillicothe, died Saturday, July 10, 1999, at a Liberty, Mo. hospital.
Born Aug. 23, 1982, in Kansas City, Kan., Woody was a Sophmore at the Chillicothe High School. He lived most of his life in Chillicothe.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, William E. Underwood.
Surviving: his mother, Karen L. Wood, of the home; his father, Calvin Underwood, Kansas City, Kan.; his step-mother Kathi Underwood, Kansas City, Kan.; a sister, Kristina D. Joy Zollinger

Joy Zollinger, 88, St. Joseph, died Monday, July 12, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital following a brief illness.
Miss Zollinger had been employed as a secretary to Mayor Bus Allison in St. Joseph. She also had served as office manager for the St. Joseph office of the Social Security Administration.
Born in St. Joseph on Nov. 4, 1910, she was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph.
Miss Zollinger was a graduate of Central High School and St. Joseph Junior College. She was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist, Boston, Mass.; Christian Science Society; and Chapter EE of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, St. Joseph Historical Society and Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art, all of St. Joseph.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver A. and Cora M. Zollinger; and three sisters, Gloria Rix, Radiance Zollinger and Jewel Buckles.
Surviving: two nieces, Judith Diamond, Prairie Village, Kan., and Suzanne Jackson, Scottsdale, Ariz., who had cared for her; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and several great-great nieces and great-great-nephews.

Hildegard Bilyk
BASEHOR, Kan. -- Hildegard Bilyk, 73, Basehor, formerly of St. Joseph, died Friday, July 16, 1999, at a Kansas City, Mo., hospital.
Mrs. Bilyk was employed by the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, Mo.
Born in Brehmen, Germany, she was a resident of Basehor for 48 years.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church in St. Joseph.
Surviving: her husband of 51 years, Michael of the home; a son, Roy, Overland Park, Kan.; two daughters, Irene Razniak, Kansas City, Mo., and Stephany Belcher, Olathe, Kan.; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Charles V. Canterbury
1920-1999
Charles V. "Chuck" Canterbury, 78, St. Joseph, died Thursday, July 15, 1999, at the home of his daughter, Sandy Weaver, in Blue Springs, Mo., after a brief illness.
Mr. Canterbury was employed in the appliance sales department of Sears Roebuck and Co. for many years until retiring in 1986. During World War II, he served in the Army.
Born in Henrietta, Mo., on Nov. 27, 1920, he was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph.
Mr. Canterbury was active in several veterans groups.
On May 10, 1944, he married Myrtle R. Bray in St. Joseph. She survives of the home.
Mr. Canterbury was preceded in death by his parents, Reuben F. Canterbury and Sophie Canterbury Seever.

John Hatton
1921-1999
John "Bob" Hatton, 77, St. Joseph, died Thursday, July 15, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Mr. Hatton worked for the Federal Aviation Agency as an air traffic controller. He worked at airports in Kansas City, Mo.; Wichita, Kan.; and more recently at Rosecrans Memorial Airport until retiring in 1976.
During World War II, he served in the Navy.
Born in St. Joseph on Aug. 8, 1921, he was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph.
Mr. Hatton was a graduate of Benton High School. He was a member of the Wyatt Park Baptist Church, Charity Lodge No. 331, 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, Moila Shrine Temple and Pony Express American Legion Post No. 359. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge, of which he served as governor.
In 1947, he married Florence F. Goucan in St. Joseph. She survives of the home.
Mr. Hatton was preceded in death by his father, Dallas; his mother and stepfather, Addie and Ernest Harbeck; and a brother, Dallas.
Additional survivors: two sons, Dennis Wright, Mission Hills, Kan., and Marshall Wright, St. Joseph.

Frank W. Jones

Frank William Jones, 92, St. Joseph, formerly of Rushville, Mo., died Thursday, July 15, 1999, at a St. Joseph health-care center.
Mr. Jones worked for the Burlington-Northern Railroad for 30 years until retiring.
Born in Bentonville, Ark., on Jan. 12, 1907, he spent most of his life in Rushville.
Mr. Jones was preceded in death by two sons, Alan and Frank Jr.; his parents, Ulysses and Mary; and two sisters.
Surviving: his wife, the former Shirley Sims of the home; two stepsons, Everett and Johnny Matthews, both of St. Joseph; three daughters, Lucille Godding and Shirley Denton, both of Atchison, Kan., and JoAnn Wilson, Cummings, Kan.; a stepdaughter, Joyce Jonas, St. Joseph; 15 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside service and burial: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Armstrong Cemetery, Rushville. Visitation: after 4 p.m. today at the Rupp Funeral Home, St. Joseph.
Charles R. Kirkendall Jr.
1934-1999
FALLS CITY, Neb. -- Charles R. Kirkendall Jr., 65, Falls City, died Thursday, July 15, 1999, at the Falls City hospital.
Mr. Kirkendall farmed and also worked in the oil fields as a tool pusher and driller.
Born in Barada, Neb., on May 24, 1934, he was reared there. He made his home in Modesto, Calif., after his marriage and later Lincoln, Neb., before moving to Richardson County, Neb. Mr. Kirkendall farmed until moving into Falls City in 1992.
On Aug. 31, 1957, he married Marilyn J. Helms in Reno, Nev. She survives of the home.
Mr. Kirkendall was preceded in death by his father, Charles H.; his stepfather, Earl Tucker; and a grandchild.

Boneta K. Kling
1913-1999
MARYVILLE, Mo. -- Boneta Katherine (Breit) Kling, 85, Maryville, died Friday, July 16, 1999, at the Maryville hospital.
Mrs. Kling, a homemaker, also worked as a bookkeeper for the Kling Construction Co. in Maryville.
Born in Bolckow, Mo., on Oct. 12, 1913, she lived most of her life in Barnard, Mo.
She was a member of the Christian Church and auxiliary to the American Legion Post, both of Barnard; and West of Guilford Club, Guilford, Mo.
On July 16, 1938, she married Laverne H. Kling in Savannah, Mo. He died in 1994.
Mrs. Kling also was preceded in death by her parents, Walter J. and Katherine O. Breit; and a grandchild.
Surviving: a son, Vernon L., Maryville; two daughters, Shirley M. Davis, Gladstone, Mo., and Katherine L. Kirby, Maryville; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Ruth M. Perkins

SABETHA, Kan. -- Ruth Marie (Minger) Perkins, 97, Sabetha, formerly of Bern, Kan., died Friday, July 16, 1999, at a health-care center in Sabetha.
Mrs. Perkins, a homemaker, also worked for the Perkins General Store in Bern.
Born in Bern on Oct. 8, 1901, she lived all of her life in the Bern and Sabetha areas.
She attended the Bern high school. Mrs. Perkins was a member of the Bern United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Helping Hands Sunday school class, Women's Fellowship and the quilting group. She also was a member of the Better Home Extension Unit of Bern.
On Nov. 11, 1920, she married William T. Perkins in Bern. They retired from the family farm in 1957. He died in 1985.
Mrs. Perkins also was preceded in death by a son, William T. Jr.; her parents, Samuel and Ida Minger; a sister, Esther Ehrsam; and a grandchild.
Surviving: a son, Gerald, Pawnee City, Neb.; a sister, Ruby Osborne, Dallas; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Donald E. Allen
1933-1999
Donald Eugene Allen, 65, St. Joseph, died Monday, July 12, 1999, at his residence.
Mr. Allen worked as a switchman and foreman for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad in Kansas City for 30 years until retiring. He also had been a deliveryman for Pizza Hut in St. Joseph.
Born in Weston, Mo., on Oct. 5, 1933, he had resided in St. Joseph since he was 6 years old.
Mr. Allen served in the Army, Army National Guard and Army Reserves. He was a member of the North St. Joseph Tabernacle, where he served as a trustee.
On July 3, 1953, he married Patty J. Hardister in St. Joseph. She survives of the home.
Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his father, Virgil A. Allen; and his stepfather, the Rev. Ivan Kidwell.
Additional survivors: a daughter, Susan Pennock, Oklahoma City; his mother, Cleo Kidwell, St. Joseph; and nine grandchildren.
