Linden L. Dennis

TRENTON, Mo. -- Linden Lloyd Dennis, 93, Trenton, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 1999, at a health-care center in Trenton.
Mr. Dennis, a farmer, was born in Galt, Mo., on Oct. 29, 1905, and lived and farmed in the Hazeville, Mo., area after his marriage. Later the couple moved to Trenton.
He was a member of the Haseville United Methodist Church, east of Laredo, Mo.
On Nov. 20, 1929, he married Mary L. Roach in Galt. She died in 1998.
Mr. Dennis also was preceded in death by a son, James J.; and his parents, Joseph and Lizzie E.
Surviving: a daughter, Jewell Holt, Gallatin, Mo.; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Service: 11 a.m. Thursday, Haseville United Methodist Church, east of Laredo. Burial: church cemetery. Family visitation: one hour before the service at the church. Agnes C. Frantz

LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. -- Agnes C. (Bean) Frantz, 85, Lee's Summit, formerly of Atchison, Kan., died Monday, Oct. 4, 1999, at a retirement facility in Lee's Summit.
Born in Windom, Kan., on Nov. 7, 1913, Mrs. Frantz moved to Atchison in 1937 and John Knox Village in Lee's Summit in 1995.
She was a graduate of the McPherson, Kan., high school and attended McPherson College for three years. Mrs. Frantz was a member of the League of Women Voters and Chapter J of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Atchison.
On Oct. 31, 1935, she married Harry F. Frantz in McPherson. He died in 1994.
Mrs. Frantz also was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph E. and Minnie Bean; and three brothers.
Surviving: two sons, Harry F. Jr., Norman, Okla., and Charles, Kansas City, Kan.; two daughters, Sally J. Rush, Gaithersburg, Md., and Susan Falbo, Valencia, Calif.; a brother, Gerald Bean, California state; two sisters, Leah Paris, Denver, and Marilyn Helzerman, Aurora, Colo.; and five grandchildren.
Memorial service: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison. The body has been cremated. Inurnment: Mount Vernon Cemetery, Atchison. Family visitation: 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Charles T. Harris
1923-1999
MAYSVILLE, Mo. -- Charles Thompson Harris, 75, Maysville, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 1999, at a Kansas City hospital.
Mr. Harris was employed by the United States Postal Service at the Maysville office for 28 years, retiring as postmaster in 1987. He also worked for Sam E. Owen, the Brock Milling Co. and Glen Cooper as a bookkeeper for many years, as well as farming and ranching most of his adult life. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps.
Born on the family farm near Maysville on Nov. 6, 1923, he lived in DeKalb County, Mo., all his life. He was a graduate of the Maysville high school.
Mr. Harris was a member of the DeKalb County Historical Society and DeKalb County Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post No. 5634, of which he served as quartermaster, Maysville.
On Sept. 15, 1955, he married Harriette Cochran in Stewartsville, Mo. She survives of the home.
Mr. Harris was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence L. Sr. and Lorna; and an infant brother, Stanton P.
Additional survivors: a son, Thomas, Hope Mills, N.C.; a daughter, Joyce Dunning, St. Joseph, a brother, Lawrence L. Jr., Kansas City; and two grandchildren.

Mildred L. Medley

CAMERON, Mo. -- Mildred Lucille "Granny" (Shands) Medley, 79, Cameron, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 1999, at a health-care center in Cameron.
Mrs. Medley owned and operated Mildred's Beauty Shop in Cameron for several years. She also was a nurse's aide at the Cameron Community Hospital for 17 years and worked at the Truck Haven Restaurant of Cameron for 25 years until retiring in 1996.
Born in Paris, Texas, on Aug. 29, 1920, she was a resident of Cameron for about 50 years.
Mrs. Medley was a graduate of a high school in Texas and Caster's School of Cosmetology in St. Joseph. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Winston, Mo.; Winston chapter No. 182, Order of the Eastern Star, of which she was a past matron; and auxiliary to the American Legion Post, Cameron.
On July 5, 1949, she married W. Paul Medley in Winston. He died in 1989.
Mrs. Medley also was preceded in death by her parents, Monroe and Pearl Shands; a brother, John Shands; and two sisters, Cleta Ripley and Dorothy Scott.
Surviving: two daughters, Nancy Skidmore, Cameron, and Martha Proulx, Liberty, Mo.; a brother, Herschel Shands, Detroit, Texas; and three grandchildren.

Margaret D. Arnesen

APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. --Margaret Doris Arnesen, 78, Apache Junction, formerly of Hiawatha, Kan., died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, at a Mesa, Ariz., hospital.
Mrs. Arnesen was born July 27, 1921, in Paterson, N.J. She grew up in the New York metropolitan area.
She was a member of the Hiawatha First United Methodist Church; Brown County (Kan.) Extension Unit; United Methodist Women; and helped establish the Latchkey program.
On March 4, 1945, she married Alf G. Arnesen. He died in 1964.
Mrs. Arnesen also was preceded in death by her parents, Frank W. and Lizette Huelser; a sister, Elsa Hulser; and a brother, Frank Hulser.
Surviving: a son, Alf, Hiawatha; a sister, Lois Traw, Apache Junction, Ariz., whom with she had been living; and four grandchildren.
Memorial service: 2 p.m. Wednesday, First United Methodist Church, Hiawatha. Inurnment: Mount Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Latchkey Program, in care of Framke Casselman Meek Funeral Home, Hiawatha.
Archie H. Fenley Jr.
1931-1999
TROY, Kan. -- Archie H. Fenley Jr., 68, Troy, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 1999, on a farm south of Troy.
Mr. Fenley established East Hills Launderers & Cleaners, St. Joseph, and had two additional locations in St. Joseph and the Troy Cleaners, Troy. He also owned Fenley Farms for 25 years and served in the Troy National Guard for 21 years, retiring as captain.
Born Jan. 18, 1931, in Troy, he lived most of his life in Troy and was a graduate of Troy High School.
Mr. Fenley was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus No. 375, American Legion Post No. 55, all of Troy. He also had served on the Unified School District No. 429 School Board and served on the Board of Trustees for Highland College, both of Highland, Kan., and was a member of the Retired Reserve Officers Association.
On Sept. 12, 1953, he married Lillian Wiskowski in St. Joseph. She survives of the home.
Mr. Fenley was preceded in death by his parents, Archie Sr. and Beulah.
Additional survivors: two sons, Mark, Troy, and David, Kansas City; a daughter, Geri L. Parscale, Lawrence, Kan., six grandchildren; and a stepgrandchild.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, St. Charles Catholic Church, Troy. Burial: St. Charles Cemetery, Troy, with military rites under the auspices of the Troy National Guard. Neva Gabriel

SMITHVILLE, Mo. -- Neva (Erwin) Silvey Gabriel, 74, Smithville, formerly of St. Joseph, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 1999, at a Kansas City hospital.
Mrs. Gabriel worked as a nurses' aide at a Smithville health-care center.
Born May 13, 1925, in Yellville, Ark., she was raised and attended school there.
Mrs. Gabriel was a member of Mount Olivet Christian Church, Smithville.
On July 10, 1940, she married Roma Silvey in Arkansas. After their marriage, they lived in St. Joseph and Faucett, Mo., and Leavenworth, Kan., before moving to Smithville in 1957. Her first husband, Roma, died in 1970. On Sept. 22, 1971, she married Herb Gabriel. The couple moved to the Paradise Community, near Smithville, after their marriage. He survives of Smithville.
Mrs. Gabriel also was preceded in death by her parents, John and Edna Erwin; three brothers, Bill, Oscar and Jim Erwin; and a sister, Norma Erwin.
Additional survivors: three sons, Larry Silvey, Pettis, Texas, Ron Silvey, Liberty, Mo., and David Silvey, Smithville; three stepsons, Dan, Smithville, Don, Edgerton, Mo., and Gale, Oklahoma City; four stepdaughters, Glenda Fox and Marilyn Gabriel, both of Gladstone, Mo., Marcella Britton, Kirksville, Mo., and Connie Tettamble, Springfield, Mo.; two sisters, Berniece Bolding, Mountain View, Ark, and Dora Chrissonberry, North Little Rock, Ark.; eight grandchildren; 15 stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and five step- great-grandchildren.

Naydean Gilbert

SABETHA, Kan. -- Naydean (Lee) Gilbert, 71, Sabetha, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 1999, at a Topeka, Kan., hospital.
Mrs. Gilbert taught for several years at the former Plum Creek and Franklin schools, south of Fairview, Kan.
Born Aug. 6, 1928, near Dawson, Neb., her family moved to Sabetha when she was a young girl. She was a graduate of Sabetha High School and attended Kansas State University-Manhattan, where she earned her teaching credentials.
She married Robert A. Gilbert on June 14, 1948, in Seneca, Kan. Together, they owned and operated several Sabetha businesses, including: the Conoco Service Station, Sabetha Lanes, Bob's Drive-In and the Corner Liquor Store. He died in 1997.
Mrs. Gilbert also was preceded in death by her parents, William D. and Mildred Lee; and a brother, William Lee Jr.
Surviving: three sons, Larry, Oskaloosa, Kan., and Robert and Rodney, both of Kansas City; two daughters, Penny Ludlow, Soldier, Kan., and Cathie Scott, Mayetta, Kan.; a sister, Virginia Goodman, Sabetha; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Service: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Popkess Mortuary, Sabetha. Burial: Albany Cemetery, north of Sabetha. Family visitation: 7 to 8:30 tonight at the mortuary. Memorial contributions may be sent to Basic Cancer Research of Kansas State University, in care of the mortuary.
Myrtle Andes

CINCINNATI -- Myrtle (Pritchett) Andes, 65, Cincinnati, formerly of St. Joseph, died Friday, Sept. 24, 1999, at a hospital in Batavia, Ohio.
Mrs. Andes had worked as a waitress in St. Joseph and Cincinnati.
Born in St. Joseph on Dec. 25, 1933, she moved from St. Joseph to Cincinnati when she was 30 years old.
Mrs. Andes was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Emoghine Pritchett.
Surviving: two sons, Doyle R. Meek, and Jonn Andes, both of Cincinnati; five daughters, Gayla Werline, Batavia, Mary Meek, Carrington, Ky., and Verba Johns, Lori Jacobs and Kelly Wright, all of Cincinnati; a brother, the Rev. Clyde Pritchett Jr., South Sioux City, Neb.; four sisters, Clyda Spurgeon and Margaret Lakin, both of St. Joseph, Norma Dunnihoo, Savannah, Mo., and Mary Clary, Troy, Kan.; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, Sept. 28, at the Paul R. Young Funeral Home in Mount Healthy, Ohio. Burial was in the Arlington Memorial Gardens of Mount Healthy.
Earl H. Baker
1925-1999
MARYVILLE, Mo. -- Earl Henry Baker, 74, Maryville, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, at his residence.
Mr. Baker was a professor and coach at Northwest Missouri State University at Maryville until retiring in 1987. Before that, he taught at Hardin and Cameron, Mo.
Born in Saline County, Mo., on March 22, 1925, he had resided in Maryville since 1960.
Mr. Baker was a graduate of Marshall (Mo.) High School and served in the Navy during World War II. He earned a bachelor of science degree in education from Missouri Valley College, Marshall; a master's degree in administration from Northeast Missouri State University, now Truman State University, Kirksville, Mo.; and a doctorate in education from Northern Colorado State University, Greeley, Colo.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Maryville.
On Dec. 21, 1947, he married Betty J. Underwood in Marshall. She survives of the home.
Mr. Baker was preceded in death by his parents, Noah J. and Lola E.; a brother, Amos; twin sisters, Dorothy and Doris Baker; and two grandchildren.
Additional survivors: two daughters, Patricia Haynes and Elizabeth Davis, both of Maryville; two sons, Richard and Earl W., both of Kansas City; three brothers, Lawrence, Marshall, Norman, Independence, Mo., and Alva, Liberty, Mo.; four sisters, Lillian Bryan, Ruth Herndon and Velma Bacon, all of Marshall, and Mary Frain, Topeka, Kan.; and four grandchildren.
Service: 3 p.m. Saturday, First Baptist Church, Maryville. Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery, Maryville.
