Elmer O. Hall

CAMERON, Mo. -- Elmer Orman Hall, 85, Cameron, died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, at a health-care center in Cameron.
Mr. Hall worked in a bomber plant and with a railroad. He also served in the Army.
Born in Cameron on July 1, 1913, he spent most of his life in Cameron.
He was a member of the First Christian Church and Elmer Ellis American Legion Post No. 33, both of Cameron.
Mr. Hall was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Minnie.
There is no known immediate family surviving.
Graveside service and burial: 11 a.m. Thursday, Deer Creek Cemetery, south of Cameron. Visitation: after noon today at the Poland-Thompson Funeral Home, Cameron.
Richard Henry
1931-1999
CONCEPTION JUNCTION, Mo. -- Richard "Dick" Henry, 67, Conception Junction, died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, at the Maryville, Mo., hospital.
Mr. Henry was the district manager for the Grand River Mutual Telephone Co. in Ravenwood, Mo. He also served in the Army during the Korean War and as city marshall for Conception Junction.
Born in Seneca, Kan., on Sept. 26, 1931, he resided in Conception Junction since 1954.
He was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Tri-C American Legion Post No. 464, all of Conception Junction. He served as a 4-H Club leader in Conception Junction.
On Aug. 24, 1955, he married Mary C. Schieber in Clyde, Mo. She survives of the home.
Mr. Henry was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen M. Henry; his parents, Joseph A. Sr. and Hedwig M.; and a grandchild.

The Rev. Marvin H. Hockenhull
1915-1999
ST. LOUIS -- The Rev. Marvin H. Hockenhull, 83, St. Louis, formerly of St. Joseph and Plattsburg, Mo., died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, at a hospital in St. Louis.
The Rev. Hockenhull was a Methodist minister until retiring in 1989. He pastored churches in Archie, St. Joseph and Chamois, Mo., as well as the Broadway United Methodist Church in Plattsburg during the 1960s. He was ordained and served with the Louisiana Conference and then moved to the Missouri West Conference.
Born in Clovis, N.M., on Sept. 3, 1915, he lived in Kansas City and the Smithville, Mo., areas for several years before moving to St. Louis three months ago.
On Oct. 25, 1941, he married Mary E. Seymour. She died in 1998.
The Rev. Hockenhull also was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Elizabeth.
Surviving: a son, Robert M., St. Louis; a daughter, Patricia McIntosh, Kansas City; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

M. Marie Huffaker
1901-1999
SAVANNAH, Mo. -- M. Marie (Howard) Huffaker, 97, Savannah, formerly of Whitesville, Mo., died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Mrs. Huffaker, born northeast of Whitesville on June 28, 1901, lived most of her life in the Whitesville and Rea, Mo., areas until moving to Savannah in 1978.
A homemaker, she was a member of Chapter No. 528, Order of the Eastern Star; and the former Christian Church, both of Whitesville; and Savannah chapter of the Royal Neighbors of America.
In 1921, she married Glenn B. Huffaker. He died in 1978.
Mrs. Huffaker also was preceded in death by her parents, Y.E. and Martha J. Howard; five brothers, Orvil J., W. Earl, George R., J. Lynn and Lloyd Y. Howard; and three sisters, Alma Jackson, Vesta Mueller and Beulah Knight.
Surviving: a son, Victor L., Rea; a sister, Katherine Nelson, Pasadena, Calif.; a grandchild; and three great-grandchildren.

Doris E. Kerford

KANSAS CITY -- Doris E. Kerford, 88, Kansas City, formerly of St. Joseph, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital after a lengthy illness.
Miss Kerford was a principal in the Kansas City School District for many years. Before that, she was a teacher.
Born in St. Joseph on Feb. 12, 1910, she resided in Kansas City for most of her life.
Miss Kerford was a graduate of the former Bartlett High School in St. Joseph; and earned a bachelor's degree from Jefferson University in Jefferson City, Mo., and a master's degree from New York University in New York City.
She was a member of St. Augustine Episcopal Church, Kansas City; and Phi Delta Kappa sorority.
Miss Kerford was preceded in death by her parents, Elijah and Angie; a brother, Matthew Kerford; and two sisters, Edmonia and Angie Kerford.
Surviving: a sister, Catherine Kerford, St. Joseph.

Bernadine Kramer

RICHMOND, Va. -- Bernadine (Gooding) Kramer, 89, Richmond, formerly of Gilman City, Mo., died Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, at a health-care center in Richmond.
Born in Daviess County, Mo., on Feb. 25, 1909, Mrs. Kramer was a retired school teacher.
She was a graduate of the Gilman City high school and a member of the Gilman City United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Kramer was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents, Audie and Laura Gooding; and two brothers, Earl and Dayton Gooding.
Surviving: a son, Robert, Fairfax, Va.; and two grandchildren.

Harold W. Lillard

GREENWOOD, Ark. -- Harold W. Lillard, 75, Greenwood, formerly of Savannah, Mo., died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, at a health-care center in Greenwood.
Mr. Lillard served in the Army from 1943 until retiring in 1975 as a sergeant major. He received numerous medals, including a Purple Heart with an Oak-Leaf Cluster, Vietnam Gallantry Cross with a Palm, and Bronze Star with two Oak-Leaf Clusters. He also farmed.
Born in Oregon, Mo., on Jan. 4, 1923, he lived in the Savannah and St. Joseph areas, and Magazine, Ark., before moving to Greenwood. He attended school in Fillmore, Mo.
Mr. Lillard was preceded in death by his wife, the former Betty D. Dacus; his parents, Milt and Eva; a sister, Velma Lillard; and a brother, Robert.
Surviving: a daughter, Dianah Gourley, Greenwood; a son, Larry W., Moran, Kan.; two sisters, Frankie Steeby, Savannah, and Beulah Johnson, St. Joseph; a brother, Warren, Delphoe, Mo.; and three grandchildren.

Austin was born on Jan. 16, 1999, at a Kansas City hospital.

Bill Park

RUSHVILLE, Mo. -- Bill Park, 68, Rushville, died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Mr. Park worked as a machinist with Atchison Casting Co. for more than 42 years, retiring in 1992.
Born on June 4, 1930, in Rushville, he was a graduate of Rushville High School.
Mr. Park was a former member of the Short Creek Baptist Church, near Rushville. He served in the army during the Korean conflict.
On June 4, 1955, he married Joyce Black in Atchison, Kan. She survives of the home.
Mr. Park was preceded in death by his parents, James and Etta Park; and two brothers, Guy and Eugene.

Anna M. Richardson

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. -- Anna May (Groebe) Richardson, 64, Leavenworth, died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, at a Kansas City, Kan., hospital.
Mrs. Richardson was co-owner of Sadtk's Furniture Store in Leavenworth.
She was born Jan. 23, 1934, in Cameron, Mo.
Mrs. Richardson was a member of the Leavenworth Chamber of Commerce and past board treasurer of Leavenworth Downtown Merchants Association.
On Nov. 30, 1975, she married Donald C. Richardson in St. Joseph. He died in 1989. She was first married to Dale C. Diven. He is deceased.
Mrs. Richardson also was preceded in death by her father, Elmer A. Groebe.
Surviving: three daughters, Deborah Root, Madison, Kan., Rebecca Stretz, Overland Park, Kan., and Sandra Richter, Iowa City, Iowa; a son, Dale, Platte City, Mo.; her mother, Minnie M. Groebe, Cameron; a brother, Elmer Groebe, Cameron; and eight grandchildren.

James H. Shrout
1922-1999
James H. "Jim" Shrout, 76, St. Joseph, died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, at his residence.
Mr. Shrout worked with the Ford Motor Co. in the Allison Division in Indianapolis, and Douglas Aircraft in California for five years. He also was a quality control inspector for electrical components for NASA and ITT Canon Electric. Then in 1977, he moved to Union Star, Mo., to farm.
Born in Ladoga, Ind., on Aug. 22, 1922, he lived in Indiana, California and Union Star before moving to St. Joseph in 1990.
During World War II, he served in the Army and received several medals, including European-African Middle-Eastern Theater Ribbon with five Bronze Stars. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Indiana.
On Aug. 28, 1958, he married Charlene Saunders in Long Beach, Calif. She survives of the home.
Mr. Shrout was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Alice M.; his parents, Willard and Maple; a brother, Leland; and three sisters, Viola Miller, Nellie Shrout and Mertie Westenskow.

Jack D. Urquhart

Jack D. Urquhart, 64, St. Joseph, died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Mr. Urquhart was a hog buyer since 1955 for Armour and Co., Swift Independent and Monfort Pork, retiring in 1994. He also served in the Naval Reserves for eight years.
Born in St. Joseph on July 20, 1934, he was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph. He was a member of the Christian faith.
On May 15, 1953, he married Lois L. McCollum in St. Joseph. She survives of the home.
Mr. Urquhart was preceded in death by his parents, Jack K. and Helen J.

Wilmer T. Yates

GRANT CITY, Mo. -- Wilmer T. "Sonny" Yates, 69, Grant City, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999, at his residence.
Mr. Yates served in the Air Force as a social worker for more than 30 years until retiring, and participated in the Vietnam War.
Born in Chariton, Iowa, on May 30, 1929, he lived most of his life in that county. He was a graduate of the Grant City high school.
Mr. Yates was a member of the Baptist Church, American Legion Post and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, all of Grant City; and Senior Citizens Council, of which he was president, Maryville, Mo. He also was a Sunday school teacher at the Wilkinson Care Center in Grant City.
He married Ardath Combs. They were divorced.
Mr. Yates was preceded in death by a son, Timothy A.; and his parents, Wilmer and Earline.
Surviving: three sons, Warren T.. Austin, Tommy J., Kopperl, Texas, and Douglas T., Grant City; two daughters, Pamela R. Burton and Idalu Froats, both of San Antonio; a brother, Earl, Tempe, Ariz.; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
