Alice A. Dewey

ROCK PORT, Mo. -- Alice Allene (Bonham) Dewey, 85, Rock Port, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, at the Fairfax, Mo., hospital.
Born in Guilford, Mo., on Sept. 23, 1913, Mrs. Dewey was a graduate of the King City, Mo., high school.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Rock Port, where she was active in United Methodist Women; and a former member of the King City United Methodist Church, where she had been organist.
On March 11, 1936, she married Byron E. Dewey in Maysville, Mo. They lived and farmed in Albany, Lone Star and Fairport, Mo., and King City until retiring in 1968 and moving to Rock Port. He survives of the home.
She also had worked as a sales clerk for the Places Store in Rock Port for 14 years and at the Young World Shop in Rock Port from 1982 until retiring in 1984.
Mrs. Dewey was preceded in death by her parents, Robert J. and Ruth L. Bonham; two brothers, Frank and Ovid Bonham; and a sister, Esther Crouch.

Stoner, Rock Port; two brothers, Arthur Bonham, Albany, and George Bonham, Calla Mesa, Calif.; a sister, Marjorie Black, Savannah, Mo.; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three step great-great-grandchildren.

Betty G. Eaton

Betty G. (Newcomer) Seevers Eaton, 95, St. Joseph, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, at a St. Joseph health-care center.
Born in Guilford, Mo., on July 14, 1903, Mrs. Eaton was a homemaker and a member of the Central Christian Church in St. Joseph.
She and her second husband, Walter, had owned and operated the Spruce Place Laundromat in Minneapolis, Minn., until retiring and moving to St. Joseph in 1970.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Phillip B. Seevers, in 1956; her second husband, Walter Eaton, in 1980; her parents, Jacob B. and Mattie E. Newcomer; a brother, Lester Newcomer; and a sister, Gladys Gillette.
Surviving: a son, J.B. Seevers, St. Joseph; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Alice V. Lawrence

RUSHVILLE, Mo. -- Alice Virginia (Hargrove) Lawrence, 90, Sugar Creek community, near Rushville, Mo., died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Born in the Sugar Creek community on Oct. 5, 1908, Mrs. Lawrence had lived in that community throughout her married life.
She was a member of the Sugar Creek Christian Church and Sugar Creek Ladies Aid Society; and a former member of the Valley Chapel Extension Unit, all of the Rushville area.
On Aug. 6, 1927, she married Byron Lawrence in St. Joseph. He died in 1992.
Mrs. Lawrence also was preceded in death by her parents, John and Martha Hargrove; two brothers, Ruben and Charles Hargrove; and two sisters, Jessie Reynolds and Hallie Page.
Surviving: three daughters, Jean Pepper, Weston, Mo., Margaret Bishop, DeKalb, Mo., and Jane A. Cox, Liberty, Mo.; a sister, Evelyn Burg, Topeka, Kan.; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

The Rev. George Manning
1914-1999
ALBANY, Mo. -- The Rev. George Manning, 84, Albany, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, at the Albany hospital.
The Rev. Manning had served as pastor of the Albany Christian Church from 1941 to 1954. He had worked as a zone manager for Investors Diversified Services from 1955 to 1966, serving Gentry and Harrison Counties, Mo., with investment and insurance accounts.
He also had farmed in Clay County, Iowa, since 1947; had been employed as a carpenter in commercial and heavy construction; and was a teacher at the Albany high school.
Born in Spencer, Iowa, on March 9, 1914, he was a graduate of Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. He had served on the Albany City Council north ward from 1962 to 1964.
On July 13, 1941, he married Jeanne Strong in Spencer. She survives of the home.
The Rev. Manning was preceded in death by a daughter, Meredith Good; his parents, Max M. and Ethel F.; a brother, Ralph; and a sister, Maxine Manning.
Additional survivors: a son, Max, Kansas City; a daughter, Madilyn Abernathy, Marshalltown, Iowa; a brother, Dale, Mesa, Ariz.; and six grandchildren.

Ethel E. Martin

CARROLLTON, Mo. -- Ethel Evelyn (Francis) Martin, 89, Carrollton, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999, at the Liberty, Mo., hospital.
Mrs. Martin, born in Miami Station, Mo., on Dec. 6, 1909, was a lifelong resident of the Carrollton area.
She was a member of the Christian Church in Miami Station.
On Oct. 24, 1943, she married Roy Martin in Mineral Wells, Texas. While her husband was overseas in the Army, she returned to Carrollton. He survives of the home.
Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her parents, W.L. and Mary Francis; two brothers, W.T. and John Francis; and a sister, Etta Williams.

Mary E. Moore

ATCHISON, Kan. -- Mary Ellen (Smith) Moore, 80, Atchison, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999, at a health-care center in Atchison.
Mrs. Moore had cared for the elderly in their homes in Kansas City, Mo., and Tulsa, Okla. She also had served at the Prayer Tower at the Oral Roberts University in Tulsa.
Born in Atchison County, Kan., on Aug. 10, 1918, she attended Atchison public schools. She had lived in Kansas City, Kan.; in Tulsa for 20 years; and returned to Atchison in 1996.
She married Fred L. Moore. They were later divorced.
Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by her parents, John and Willamette Smith; and a brother, Johnny Smith.
Surviving: three sons, Bob, Sweet Home, Ore., James, Denton, Kan., and Gary, Horton, Kan.; three daughters, Lois Smith, Garmisch, Germany, Mary L. Shaw, Houston, Texas, and Patricia Holmes, Tulsa; four brothers, Ernest Smith, Atchison, Jess Smith, Cummings, Kan., Elmer Smith, Olathe, Kan., and Walter Smith, Independence, Mo.; a sister, Melba Bauer, Effingham, Kan.; 17 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

GRANT CITY, Mo. -- Elton Howard Ridge, 82, Grant City, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, at the Albany, Mo., hospital.
Mr. Ridge, a retired farmer, was born in Grant City on Dec. 29, 1916, and was a lifelong resident of Grant City.
He was a graduate of the Grant City high school and served in the Army during World War II. He was a member of the Denver, Mo., Baptist Church.
On Dec. 21, 1940, he married Kathryn Bram in Pickering, Mo. She survives of the home.
Mr. Ridge was preceded in death by a son, David; and his parents, Elbridge and Vada.

Lena W. Robinson

FALLS CITY, Neb. -- Lena W. (Class) Robinson, 93, Falls City, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, at the Falls City hospital.
Mrs. Robinson had worked as a waitress in the dining room of the Hotel Weaver, Prater's Cafe, Candlelight Cabin, Henry Hey's Cafe and White City Motel Cafe, all of Falls City; and Castle Hotel coffee shop in Omaha, Neb.
Born on a farm southwest of Reserve, Kan., on Oct. 19, 1905, she was reared there. After the death of her parents, she raised the five other siblings. She moved to Falls City at age 21.
She was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Falls City.
On June 18, 1972, she married George W. Robinson in Santa Ana, Calif. They lived in Costa Mesa, Calif., for 23 years and then traveled throughout the United States for 61/2 years. He died in 1989, and that year she returned to Falls City.
Mrs. Robinson also was preceded in death by her parents, Henry J. and Alvina Class.
Surviving: two sisters, Elsie Kuhlman, Chicago, Ill., and Viola M. Frederick, Omaha.

John S. Schneider
1943-1999
John S. Schneider, 55, St. Joseph, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Maryville, Mo., on Oct. 13, 1943, Mr. Schneider had been a self-employed laborer until 1998. He was reared in Barnard, Mo., but had spent most of his life in St. Joseph.
In 1966, he married Ida M. Pitts in Maryville. She died in 1988.
Mr. Schneider also was preceded in death by his parents, John S. and Wilma D.
Surviving: three sons, J. Dan, Barnard, Joe S., Guilford, Mo., and Sam D., St. Joseph; a daughter, Bonnie J. Schneider, St. Joseph; three sisters, Nancy D. Redmond, Stanberry, Mo., and Sandra K. Murphy and Rena E. Puckett, both of Barnard; and six grandchildren.

Maurice Stickler
1926-1999
Maurice Stickler, 72, St. Joseph, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Mr. Stickler retired as an agent with the Prudential Life Insurance Co. after over 20 years of service. He also had co-owned and operated the Hy-Klas Grocery No. 14 in St. Joseph. During World War II, he served in the Navy.
Born in St. Joseph on Oct. 22, 1926, he was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph.
Mr. Stickler attended St. Joseph Junior College, University of Kansas at Lawrence and Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville. He was a member of the First Christian Church, where he had served as a deacon.
On Dec. 5, 1951, he married Elaine J. Holaday in St. Joseph. She survives of the home.
Mr. Stickler was preceded in death by his parents, Charles G. and Mabel; a brother, Glen B.; and a sister, Doris Garrett.

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. -- Wilma M. "Willy'' (Ingels) Appleby, 77, Castle Rock, formerly of Pickering, Mo., died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, at a health-care center in Castle Rock.
Born in Pickering on Sept. 22, 1921, Mrs. Appleby was reared in Missouri and had lived in Colorado since 1950 and had been a resident of Castle Rock since 1997.
On Dec. 22, 1939, she married Robert Appleby. He survives.
Mrs. Appleby was preceded in death by her parents, William and Thelma Ingels.

Born in St. Joseph on Jan. 13, 1964, he was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph. He was a member of the New Home Baptist Church in St. Joseph.
Mr. Bacon was preceded in death by his father, Donald; and his maternal grandmother, Mary Jones.
