Carroll A. Peters
1938-1999
PLATTSBURG, Mo. -- Carroll A. Peters, 61, Plattsburg, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 1999, at the Liberty, Mo., hospital.
Mr. Peters retired from the security department of Armco Steel after 25 years in 1989. He had been working for Freeman Bros. in Plattsburg for the past 10 years.
During the Korean War, he served in the Army. After returning from the service, he was a Missouri State Highway patrolman. He also had served on the Plattsburg Police Department and as a reserve officer for the Clinton County, Mo., Sheriff's Department. For over 30 years, he was a volunteer for the Plattsburg Volunteer Fire Department, with 10 of those years as chief.
Born in St. Joseph on Jan. 5, 1938, he had spent most of his early years in Cameron, Mo., and had been a resident of Plattsburg for about 35 years. He graduated from the Cameron high school and served on the board of the Plattsburg Fire District.
On Jan. 5, 1962, he married Beverly Bledsoe. She survives of the home.
Mr. Peters was preceded in death by his father, Chalmer.
Additional survivors: a son, Craig, Cleveland, Ohio; a daughter, Robin Peters, Kansas City; his mother, Lucille Peters, Plattsburg; and a grandchild.

Marilyn B. Sealey
1940-1999
Marilyn B. Sealey, 58, St. Joseph, formerly of King City, Mo., died Thursday, Jan. 28, 1999, at a hospital in St. Joseph.
Miss Sealey had been employed as a licensed practical nurse at the former Missouri Methodist Hospital and Heartland Hospital West, both in St. Joseph, for 35 years until retiring in 1998.
Born northeast of King City on March 5, 1940, she graduated from the King City high school and University of Kansas, School of Nursing, at Lawrence, Kan.
She was a member of the Hammer Memorial United Methodist Church, King City; and American Quarter Horse Association.
Miss Sealey was preceded in death by her father, Wayne.
Surviving: her mother, Mary Sealey, King City; and four brothers, Jim, Lamar, Mo., Larry and Don, both of King City, and Jerry, Union Star, Mo.

Wallace R. Smith
1925-1999
JOPLIN, Mo. -- Wallace R. Smith, 73, Joplin, formerly of the Rushville and DeKalb, Mo., areas, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 1999, at a health-care center in Joplin following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Smith had been employed as a master electrician, and served in the Army during World War II and the Korean War.
Born in DeKalb on Nov. 11, 1925, he graduated from the Rushville high school. He had resided in Phoenix, Ariz., before moving to Joplin four years ago.
On July 19, 1944, he married Dorothy Baird in Atchison, Kan. She survives of the home in Joplin.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Sterlie; and a brother, Robert.
Additional survivors: two sons, Michael W., Minneapolis, Minn., and David D., McDonough, Ga.; a brother, John T., DeKalb; three sisters, Beulah Hoover, Rushville, Ruth A. Bodenhausen, St. Joseph, and Betty Slove, Chicago, Ill.; and two grandchildren.

Melvin D. Besette
1935-1999
ATCHISON, Kan. -- Melvin D. "Junie" Besette, 63, Atchison, died Thursday, Jan. 28, 1999, at a Kansas City, Mo., hospital.
Mr. Besette was a certified welder and pipefitter through the Pipefitters Union Local No. 45 in St. Joseph from the mid-1960s until retiring in 1990. While in high school, he worked as an apprentice welder at Midwest Solvents in Atchison.
In 1954, he joined the Air Force Reserves as a welding instructor at Richards Gebaur Air Force Base until his discharge in 1962. He also served on the Atchison Police Department.
Born in Atchison on Dec. 21, 1935, he graduated from the Atchison County Community High School in Effingham, Kan.
Mr. Besette, who raised exotic animals after his retirement, was a member of the Kansas Fur Harvesters Association and National Trappers Association. He also was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 238, A.F.&A.M.;, in Rushville, Mo.
On Aug. 10, 1970, he married Carol Daniel in Miami, Okla. She survives of the home.

Gertrude V. Boeh

BELTON, Mo. -- Gertrude V. (Israel) Boeh, 98, Belton, formerly of Atchison, Kan., died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 1999, at her residence.
Mrs. Boeh and her husband, William, operated and later owned an orchard where the Pineview Country Club in Atchison is now located.
Born in Wathena, Kan., on Sept. 12, 1900, she attended high school in Wathena, where she also taught school. She lived in the Oak Mills community, southwest of Atchison, for a number of years.
Mrs. Boeh was a member of St. Sabina's Catholic Church in Belton. She was a former member of St. Benedict's Catholic Church, Atchison; and the Willing Workers Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William J., in 1956; a son, Thomas C.; a stepson, Bernard; her parents, Edward and Georgia Israel; and four brothers, two sisters and a grandchild.
Surviving: two daughters, Patricia Boeh, Belton, and Genevieve Dudgeon, Tucson, Ariz.; a stepdaughter, Lucille Studer, St. Joseph; a brother, Everett Israel, Wathena; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial: 11 a.m. Monday, St. Benedict's Catholic Church, Atchison. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Atchison. Quentin G. Burns
1922-1999
Quentin G. Burns, 76, St. Joseph, died Thursday, Jan. 28, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Mr. Burns worked as a safety director and then claims director for the St. Joseph Light and Power Co. for 38 years until retiring in 1984. During World War II, he served in the Army.
Born in St. Joseph on Dec. 11, 1922, he was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph. He attended the former Christian Brothers High School and was a graduate of Central High School.
Mr. Burns was a member of the Pony Express American Legion Post No. 359 and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
On July 6, 1946, he married Margaret Krumme in St. Joseph. She survives of the home.
Mr. Burns was preceded in death by his parents, George and Elizabeth; and two brothers, Norman F. and George L.
Additional survivors: a son, Michael G. of the home; a daughter, Marilyn Bowers, St. Joseph; two brothers, Lawrence J., St. Joseph, and Martin, Stewartsville, Mo.; and two sisters, Jean Thomas and Teresa Mann, both of St. Joseph.
Inurnment: at a later date, in Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph. The body has been cremated. There will be no visitation nor service. Arrangements: Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
LaDonna Clouser

LaDonna (Ridge) Clouser, 69, St. Joseph, formerly of Wathena, Kan., died Friday, Jan. 29, 1999, at a health-care center in St. Joseph.
Mrs. Clouser was a bookkeeper at Quaker Oats for several years. Then she worked in the clerical department of Continental Grain until retiring in 1986.
Born in Buchanan County, Mo., on March 6, 1929, she lived in the Agency and Faucett, Mo., and St. Joseph areas, but spent most of her life in Wathena.
She was a graduate of Agency High School and earned a secretarial certificate from Gard's Business School in St. Joseph. Mrs. Clouser was a member of the Wathena Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher.
Mrs. Clouser was preceded in death by a son, Danny W.; her father, Herbert Ridge; and a brother, Carl Ridge.
Surviving: a daughter, Linda Congdon, Gower, Mo.; her mother, Blanche Ridge, Agency; two sisters, Joyce Ridge and Janice Thomas, both of St. Joseph; and a grandchild.
Service: 1 p.m. Monday, Heaton-Bowman-Smith and Sidenfaden Chapel, St. Joseph. The body will be cremated after the service. Private family inurnment: at a later date in the Agency Cemetery. Visitation: after 9 a.m. Sunday at the chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday. Memorials may be made to the Hands of Hope Hospice and National Kidney Foundation.
Johnny R. Crowley

BOONVILLE, Mo. -- Johnny R. Crowley, 65, Boonville, formerly of Mound City, Mo., died Thursday, Jan. 28, 1999, at a hospital in Columbia, Mo., after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Crowley was self-employed in the construction industry. During the Korean War, he served in the Air Force for four years.
Born in Glasgow, Mo., on Oct. 16, 1933, he lived in Mound City before moving to Boonville about 35 years ago. He attended school in Mound City.
Mr. Crowley was preceded in death by his father, William R.; his mother, Ester L. Crowley; his stepmother, Mildred D. Crowley; and a brother, Harold D.
Surviving: his wife, the former Judy F. Purdy of the home; a son, John L., Boonville; two daughters, Racy R. Way, Houston, Texas, and Kelly F. Doyle, Boonville; three brothers, Robert E., Sacramento, Calif., Jack L., Blue Springs, Mo., and Randy L., Mound City; three sisters, Billie Caldwell, St. Joseph, Virginia Shortle, St. Joseph, and Sharon Bennington, Rock Port, Mo.; and six grandchildren.

Willie S. Findley

BRAYMER, Mo. -- Willie S. Findley, 89, Braymer, died Thursday, Jan. 28, 1999, at a health-care center in Braymer.
Mr. Findley, a retired farmer, was born in Denver, Mo., on April 28, 1909, and was a resident of Braymer for 11 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Anna Totten; his parents, Benjamin F. and Fannie; two brothers, Duane and Benjamin; and three sisters, Deane Findley, Zora Franklin and Violet Glick.
Surviving: a son, William, Arizona; a stepson, James Totten, Mooresville, Mo.; a stepdaughter, Martha J. Moore, Chula, Mo.; eight stepgrandchildren; and eight step great-grandchildren.

Devona E. Golden
1913-1999
PRINCETON, Mo. -- Devona Ethel (Schierbaum) Golden, 85, Princeton, died Thursday, Jan. 28, 1999, at a hospital in Columbia, Mo.
Born near Spickard, Mo., on July 29, 1913, Mrs. Golden lived most of her life in Mercer County, Mo. She moved from the farm to Princeton in 1967 and to a health-care center in Princeton in 1998.
She was a member of the Princeton First Christian Church.
On Jan. 7, 1933, she married Lynn R. Golden. He died in 1991.
Mrs. Golden also was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin H. and Opal D. Schierbaum; a sister, Helen Barker; a brother, Fred Schierbaum; and a grandchild.
Surviving: a daughter, Sharon Clark, Macon, Mo.; a sister, Vera LaRue, California state; a grandchild; four stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and seven step great-grandchildren.

Marlyn S. Pearce

COLUMBIA, Ill. -- Marlyn S. (Stanhope) Pearce, 74, Columbia, formerly of St. Joseph, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 1999, in Columbia.
Mrs. Pearce was a social worker for Orange County, Calif., Social Services and the Family Care Center of Carondelet in St. Louis.
Born in Dupo, Ill., on Aug. 31, 1924, she lived in Fullerton, Calif. She was a member of the Friends of the Library in Columbia and American Association of University Women of Belleville, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin J. Pearce Jr., in 1983; and her parents, Winfred E. and Lydia Stanhope.
Surviving: three sons, Marvin J. III, Portland, Ore., Jeffery S., Orange, Calif., and Jack B., El Cerrito, Calif.; a daughter, Caroline B. Paquet, Lake Oswego, Ore.; a sister, Jacqueline Hoefer, San Francisco; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

EUGENE, Ore. -- LaVaughn E. (Kemp) Simpson, 82, Eugene, formerly of Bethany, Mo., died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999, at a hospital in Eugene.
Born in Harrison County, Mo., on Oct. 20, 1916, Mrs. Simpson worked as a microfilm technician for Lockheed Aircraft in California.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Zelma Kemp; and a brother, Vernon K. Kemp.
Surviving: two daughters, Sherrie Wood, Hacienda Heights, Calif., and Suzette Andreason, Eugene; two sisters, Kathryn Turpin, Bethany, and Barbara Cooper, Rolla, Mo.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Mary Elliott

AMAZONIA, Mo. -- Mary (Filley) Leedom Elliott, 65, Amazonia, died Friday, Jan. 29, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Jan. 24, 1999.
Mrs. Elliott worked for Mead, formerly West Tab, St. Joseph, for 30 years before retiring in 1988.
Born Jan. 31, 1933, in St. Joseph, she was a member of the Pentecostal faith.
Mrs. Elliott was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Leedom; her father, LeRoy Filley; and a sister, Patricia Trimmer.
Surviving: her husband, Leonard Elliott, of the home; a son, Raymond Kerns, St. Joseph; two daughters, Linda Sapp, St. Joseph, and Jeanie Seachris, Wichita, Kan.; her mother, Mary Filley, St. Joseph; a brother, Steve Filley, St. Joseph; two sisters, Dorothy Filley, St. Joseph, and Betty Helton, Easton, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
