Glenda G. Holmes

Glenda G. (Ashworth) Holmes, 62, St. Joseph, died Friday, Jan. 29, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Mrs. Holmes, a homemaker, also was a self-employed beautician and cosmetologist.
Born Oct. 7, 1936, in Maryville, Mo., Mrs. Holmes was a graduate of Maryville High School and the St. Joseph Beauty University.
On March 24, 1956, she married Archie D. Holmes. He survives of the home.
Mrs. Holmes was preceded in death by her father, Darrol D. Ashworth; her mother, Cleola Jones; two stepfathers, Harry L. Strong and Alvin Jones; and a grandchild.
Surviving: a son, Michael D., St. Joseph; a daughter, Patsy L. Goodlet, St. Joseph; and two grandchildren.
Service: 1 p.m. Tuesday, Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, St. Joseph. Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph. James S. Jones
1920-1999
James S. Jones, 78, St. Joseph, died Friday, Jan. 29, 1999, at his home.
Mr. Jones worked in the packaging department at Quaker Oats, St. Joseph, for 40 years before retiring in 1982. He also drove for several car companies when trading out cars. Mr. Jones also served in the military during World War II.
Born June 14, 1920, in St. Joseph, he was a graduate of Central High School, St. Joseph.
Mr. Jones was a member of the Frederick Boulevard Baptist Church, the McCarthy Baptist Church and Quaker Oats Old Timers, all of St. Joseph.
On Oct. 18, 1957, he married Louisa A. Adkins in St. Joseph. They were foster parents for 20 years. His wife, Louisa, survives of the home.
Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his parents, Bayard and Lula; and two infant brothers, Bartley B. and Raymond B.
Additional survivors: a daughter, Brenda Houpe, St. Joseph; a sister, Margaret Earhart, St. Joseph; and two grandchildren.
Service: 11 a.m. Monday, Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, St. Joseph. Burial: Savannah (Mo.) Cemetery. Frances M. Kuhnert

Frances M. (Steele) Kuhnert, 81, St. Joseph, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at her home.
Born March 22, 1917, in Rushville, Mo., Mrs. Kuhnert was a member of the Christian faith.
On April 10, 1947, she married Albert V. Kuhnert. He died in 1993.
Mrs. Kuhnert also was preceded in death by her parents, A.T. and Fannie Steele; a brother, George Steele; and a sister, Katherine Davis.
Surviving: a daughter, Diane Ricci, St. Joseph; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Margaret A. Maloney

Margaret Alice (Cole) Maloney, 93, St. Joseph, died Friday, Jan. 29, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Born April 7, 1905, Mrs. Maloney was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, St. Joseph, and a past member of Daughters of Isabella and the Maryville, (Mo.) Country Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank L. Maloney; her parents, Charles A. and Sara E. Cole; four brothers; and three sisters.
Survivors: a daughter, Mary A. Lentz, Houston; a son, Mike F., Monroe City, Mo.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Donald L. Matt

Donald L. Matt, 80, St. Joseph, died Friday, Jan. 29, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Mr. Matt worked as a salesman for Modern Motors and Interstate Ford, both of St. Joseph, for 40 years, retiring in 1984. He also served in the Navy during World War II.
Born June 9, 1918, in St. Joseph, Mr. Matt was a graduate of Lafayette High School and a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, both of St. Joseph.
On Feb. 1, 1943, he married Gertrude Lorenz in St. Joseph. She survives of the home.
Mr. Matt was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Eleanor.
Surviving: five sons, Russell, St. Joseph, Donald, Eureka Springs, Ark., Paul, Springfield, Mo., Richard, Holts Summit, Mo., and Stephen, Berryville, Ark.; two daughters, Mary L. TOPEKA, Kan. -- Michelle Rae Mattwaoshshe, 26, Topeka, died Friday, Jan. 29, 1999, at a Topeka hospital.
Miss Mattwaoshshe was an administrative assistant for the Kickapoo Nation (Kan.) School.
Born Dec. 15, 1972, in Bethesda, Md., she was a member of the Prairie Band Potowatomi Tribe.
Miss Mattwaoshshe was preceded in death by her father, Stephen.
Surviving: her mother, Galila Johnson, Anadarko, Okla.; three sisters, Rachel Kimmi, Horton, Kan., and Kyla Lewis and Regina Mattwaoshshe, both of Mayetta, Kan.; and her grandmother, Melinda, Horton.

Darrell E. Shearer
1932-1999
CHILLICOTHE, Mo. -- Darrell Erwin Shearer, 66, Chillicothe, formerly of St. Joseph, died Friday, Jan. 29, 1999, at a Chillicothe hospital.
Mr. Shearer worked as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service until retiring in 1992. He also worked as a self-employed mechanic. He served in the Army during the Korean War, from 1952 to 1954. He received the Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Star, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, R.O.K. Presidential Unit Citation and the Good Conduct Medal.
Born April 7, 1932, in St. Joseph, he was a graduate of Chillicothe High School.
Mr. Shearer was a member of the Saddle Club and the Antique Car Club, both of Chillicothe.
On June 24, 1956, he married Norma L. Allen in Brookfield, Mo. She survives of the home.
Mr. Shearer was preceded in death by his parents, Erwin and Nora.
Additional survivors: three sons, Neal, Houma, La., Dale, Glen Carbon, Ill., and David, Chillicothe; a brother, J.W., Breckenridge, Mo.; a sister, Norma Cody, Moberly, Mo.; and seven grandchildren.

Hester M. Smith

CAROLLTON, Mo. -- Hester Myrtle (Adkins) Smith, 98, Carrollton, formerly of Tina, Mo., died Friday, Jan. 29, 1999, at a Carrollton health-care center.
Born Oct. 28, 1900, in Wakenda, Mo., Mrs. Smith lived most of her life in Tina and was a member of the Tina Go-Getters.
On Jan. 20, 1917, she married Edgar Smith in Carrollton County, Mo. Together, they ran the Tina Feed Store and the L.P. Gas Co., Tina. Her husband, Edgar, died in 1976.
Mrs. Smith also was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Alzada Adkins; a son, Donald E.; a daughter, Deloris J.; and 10 brothers and sisters.
Surviving: two granddaughters, Cheryl Wheeler, Dawn, Mo., and Connie Peterson, Tina; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Claude E. Stout

CAMERON, Mo. -- Claude E. Stout, 81, Cameron, formerly of Weatherby, Mo., died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at a Cameron health-care center.
Mr. Stout was a farmer and worked for the Missouri Highway Department, Maysville, Mo., for 27 years before retiring.
Born April 9, 1917, in Nowata, Okla., Mr. Stout was a longtime resident of Weatherby before moving to Cameron in 1992.
On Sept. 24, 1939, he married Verlene Boncile in Gallatin, Mo. She died in 1992.
Mr. Stout also was preceded in death by his parents, Hiriam and Rebecca; and a grandson.
Surviving: two sons, Virgil, Cameron, and Dean, Holt, Mo.; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Violet M. Vestweber

GALLATIN, Mo. -- Violet May (LaRue) Vestweber, 91, Gallatin, died Friday, Jan. 29, 1999, at a Gallatin health-care center.
Mrs. Vestweber, a homemaker, was a member of the Jehovah Witness Church, Clarion, Iowa.
Born Oct. 7, 1907, in Dows, Iowa, she was a graduate of Dows High School. She briefly lived in Spencer, Iowa, before moving to Gallatin in 1995.
On Feb. 4, 1930, she married William C. Vestweber in Hennepin Falls, Minn. They lived and farmed in the Dows area until her husband, William, died in 1992.
Mrs. Vestweber also was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel J. and Anna M. LaRue; and a grandchild.
Surviving: a son, Jack W., Gallatin; a sister, Caroline Vestweber, Thornton, Iowa; a brother, Dale LaRue, Muscoda, Wis.; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The body has been cremated. No service or visitation is scheduled. Private inurnment will be at a later date. Arrangements: Bram Funeral Home, Gallatin.
Nancy L. Wells

MAYSVILLE, Mo. -- Nancy L. (Mackey) Wells, 64, Maysville, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Mrs. Wells worked as a bookkeeper for Wells Implement. She also taught piano lessons from her home. She also taught at the Coffman Rural School, east of Savannah, Mo., and at the Minnie Cline Elementary School, Savannah.
Born Jan. 1, 1935, in Barnard, Mo., she was a graduate of Rosendale (Mo.) High School. Mrs. Wells also attended Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, Mo., and Columbia (Mo.) State College.
Mrs. Wells was a member of the Rosendale Christian Church.
On June 7, 1953, she married Norman Wells in Rosendale. He died in 1996.
Mrs. Wells also was preceded in death by her father, Boyd Mackey.
Surviving: a daughter, Sydney A. Hurst, St. Joseph; her mother, Bonnie Mackey, Maysville; two brothers, Boyd Mackey Jr., Platte City, Mo., and George Mackey, Albia, Iowa; and a grandchild.

Hallie Worl

CRAIG, Mo. -- Hallie (Mullen) Thomas Worl, 78, Craig, formerly of Huburn, Neb., and Tarkio and Fairfax, Mo., died Friday, Jan. 29, 1999, at a Fairfax hospital.
Mrs. Worl, a housewife, also worked as a nurse's aide.
In 1936, she married George R. Thomas. They later divorced. On Aug. 19, 1957, she married David L. Worl. They permanently separated some time later.
Mrs. Worl was preceded in death by a son, Jack Thomas; her parents, Robert M. and Mary L. Mullen; two sisters, Louise Motsinger and Grace Kerns; two brothers, Buster and Henry Mullen; and three grandchildren.
Surviving: four sons, Jerry Thomas, Kansas City, Dick Thomas, Craig, David Worl Jr., Cameron, Mo., and Wesley Stogdill, Shenandoah, Iowa; a daughter, Theresa Ensor, Malvern, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
