The Rev. Merlin F. Shively
1927-1999
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Rev. Merlin Francis Shively, 71, Springfield, formerly of Chillicothe, Mo., died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at a Springfield hospital.
The Rev. Shively was pastor of a few small churches in northern Missouri before moving to Osceola, Mo., where he was pastor of the First Baptist Church for eight years. He also was pastor of the Highview Baptist Church, Chillicothe, Mo., for 21 years, before moving to Lake Pomme de Terre, Mo., where he became pastor of the Pomme de Terre Baptist Church in 1994.
Born Feb. 22, 1927, in Queen City, Mo., The Rev. Shively served on the U.S.S. Holland in the Pacific War Zone during World War II.
On May 1, 1976, he married Bonnie Hulston of Pittsburg, Mo. She survives of the home.
The Rev. Shively was preceded in death by his parents, George and Edna Shively; and a sister, Neva Summerville.
Additional survivors: a daughter, Beckie Conard, Monett, Mo.; a son, Dan, Chillicothe; three brothers, Richard, Toledo, Ohio, Rex, Ottumwa, Iowa, and Max, Lancaster, Mo.; two sisters, Deloris Carpenter, Lancaster, and Mary Jackson, Ottumwa; and five grandchildren.
Service: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Pomme de Terre Baptist Church. Burial: Pittsburg (Mo.) Baptist Cemetery. Family visitation: 7 to 8:30 tonight, Butler Funeral Home, Bolivar, Mo. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Pomme de Terre Southern Baptist Church.

E. LaVaughn Waller
1933-1999
E. LaVaughn (Fish) Waller, 65, St. Joseph, died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at her home.
Mrs. Waller, a homemaker, was a member of Bible Baptist Temple, St. Joseph.
Born March 21, 1933, in Brooklyn, Mo., Mrs. Waller was a resident of St. Joseph for the past 48 years.
On Oct. 24, 1951, she married Frank D. Waller. He survives of the home.
Mrs. Waller was preceded in death by her father, Sherman L. Fish.
Additional survivors: her mother, Bonnie A. Fish, Bethany, Mo.; three sons, Robert S. and Leslie F., both of St. Joseph, and Wesley W., New Orleans; two daughters, Peggy L. Gramling, Cairo, Mo., and Michelle D. Waller, of the home; a foster daughter, Esther Bevell, Gladstone, Mo.; three brothers, Victor K. Fish, Kansas City, Melvin R. Fish, Bucoda, Wash., and Elmer S. Fish, Baldwin City, Kan.; two sisters, Kathleen McClellan, Hatfield, Mo., and Margaret L. Kelley, Davis City, Iowa; several grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial service: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Bible Baptist Temple, St. Joseph. The body has been cremated. There is no family visitation scheduled. Memorial contributions may be sent to Bering Precious Seed, in care of the church, 2606 Sycamore Court, St. Joseph, MO 64503. Arrangements: Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, St. Joseph.

Charles O. Whitten
1914-1999
GILMAN CITY, Mo. -- Charles O. Whitten, 85, Gilman City, formerly of Higginsville, Mo., died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at a Cameron, Mo., hospital.
Mr. Whitten owned and operated a filling station in Bethany, Mo. He also was a real estate agent and a field representative for a cheese plant, both in Bethany.
Born Jan. 21, 1914, in Daviess County, Mo., Mr. Whitten was a member of a First Baptist Church.
On Aug. 7, 1997, he married Ella Riekhof. She survives of the home.
Mr. Whitten was preceded in death by his parents, Dave and Rose; and a brother, Virgil.
Additional survivors: several cousins.
Service: 2 p.m. Tuesday, First Baptist Church, Gilman City. Inurnment: Pilot Grove No. 1 Cemetery, Gilman City, at a later date. Arrangements: Roberson Funeral Home, Gilman City.

Anna L. Wyrick
1932-1999
FILLMORE, Mo. -- Anna L. (Murphy) Wyrick, 66, Fillmore, formerly of St. Joseph, died Saturday February 13, 1999 while visiting at her son's home in Dover, Del.
Mrs. Wyrick, born April 29, 1932 in Skidmore, Mo., lived most of her life in St. Joseph, moving to Fillmore nine years ago.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert D. Harris in 1966; her second husband, F.L. Wyrick in 1991; her parents, Lee and Sylvia Murphy; and two sisters, Lois Linville and Edith Sportsman.
Surviving: four daughters, Phyllis J. Miller, Polo, Mo., Marge A. Martin, Farmington, N.M., Theresa R. Pryor, Creston, Iowa, and Susan D. Welch, St. Joseph; an adopted daughter, Sam Dobosz, St. Joseph; two sons, Jim R. Harris, Creston, and Tom A. Harris of Dover; a brother, Jim Murphy, Tina, Mo.; and three sisters, Letha Reed, Fillmore, Eva Nickels, St. Joseph, and Dorothy Linville, Burlington Junction, Mo.; 17 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Service: 3 p.m. Tuesday, Meierhoffer Family Funeral Care, St. Joseph. The family will receive friends following the service. The body will be cremated following the services. Inurnment will be private.

James C. Ball
1921-1999
James C. Ball, 77, St. Joseph, died Monday, February 15, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Mr. Ball was employed with Armour Co. in St. Joseph and Kansas City for 32 years, retiring in 1983. Mr. Ball also served in the Army Infantry during World War II in Greenland.
Born September 3, 1921, in Hemple, Mo., he lived in St. Joseph before moving to Belton, Mo., for 25 years. Mr. Ball returned to St. Joseph in September 1998.
He was a member of the Methodist faith. He also was a member of the union at Amour for many years.
On May 1, 1948, he married Rose Mary Agee. She survives of the home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy W. Sr. and Martha; and his sister, Helen M. Parker.
Additional survivors: a son, Larry J., St. Joseph; and a brother, Roy W. Jr., Carperteria, Calif.; and three grandchildren.
Service: 1:30 p.m. Friday, Meierhoffer Family Funeral Care, St. Joseph. Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph. Visitation: after noon Thursday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Lucy B. Bennett
1917-1999
CLARKSDALE, Mo. -- Lucy Bell (Wilson) Bennett, 81, Clarksdale, died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, at a Kansas City hospital.
Mrs. Bennett, a homemaker, was a member of the Christian faith.
Born May 28, 1917, in Stewartsville, Mo., she lived most of her life in St. Joseph.
Mrs. Bennett was preceded in death by her first husband, Bee Kernes; her second husband, Lightle Bennett; a son, Roy Kernes; her parents, James and Anna B. Wilson; and two daughters, Nettie and Helen Kernes.
Surviving: six sons, Everett Kernes, St. Joseph, Jessie Kernes, Agency, Mo., Robert Kernes, Fillmore, Mo., Cecil Kernes, Dumas, Texas, Jerry Kernes, Easton, Mo., and James Bennett, Clarksdale; a daughter, Mildred Iwed, St. Joseph; a sister, JimmieLue Vandel, St. Joseph; a half-sister, Mary Pittman, St. Joseph; 29 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Service: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Rupp Funeral Home, St. Joseph. Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph. Family visitation: 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Lanny W. Buttz
1940-1999
LINEVILLE, Iowa -- Lanny Walter Buttz, 58, Lineville, died Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999, at a hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.
Mr. Buttz was employed in many occupations, including barbering, municipal water and waste water treatment, and as a beekeeper.
Born April 20, 1940, in Iowa City, Iowa, he lived most of his life in southern and central Iowa.
On June 20, 1959, he married Barbara A. Ward in Moline, Ill. They moved to Lineville in 1983 from Huxley, Iowa. He then helped her with the operation of the Old Home Cafe in South Lineville, Mo. She survives of the home.
Mr. Buttz was preceded in death by an infant daughter; and his father, William H.
Additional survivors: four sons, David, Lineville, Lenny, Chariton, Iowa, Jerard, Omaha, Neb., and Brett, Fort Madison, Iowa; his mother, Arkel Shinners, Allerton, Iowa; a sister, Lora Gerald, Corydon, Iowa; a step-sister, Janie Stackhouse, Marshalltown, Iowa; two step-brothers, Pete West, Newton, Iowa, and John West, Collins, Iowa; and four grandchildren.
Memorial service: 1 p.m. today, Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Home, Lineville. The body has been cremated. Visitation: after 8 a.m. today at the funeral home. There is no scheduled family visitation.

Lloyd Dutcher
1918-1999
Lloyd Dutcher, 81, St. Joseph, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at his residence.
Mr. Dutcher, a self employed painter, operated a service station at Stop 19 in Andrew County for 16 years.
Born Jan. 19, 1918, in Fredericksburg, Iowa, he attended school there.
Mr. Dutcher served in the Army Air Force in World War II. Since World War II he lived in the St. Joseph and Andrew County area. He was a member of the Church of Christ in St. Joseph.
On Nov. 5, 1977, he married Ida A. Broce, in St. Joseph. She survives of the home.
Mr. Dutcher was preceded in death by his first wife, O. Faye; his step-daughter, Joella Lynn; and his parents, C.F. and Martha.
Additional Survivors: two step-sons, Jerry Schmutzler, St. Joseph, and Gene Schmutzler, Portland, Ore.; two stepdaughters, Donna Goforth, St. Joseph, and Joetta Trindle, Liberty, Mo.; two brothers, Charles, Oklahoma City, and Delbert, Barstow, Calif.; several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.
Service: 2 p.m. Friday, Heaton-Bowman-Smith and Sidenfaden Chapel. Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation: after 9 a.m. Thursday, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Chapel. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Ruth Eggleston
1896-1999
MAYSVILLE, Mo. -- Ruth (Henry) Eggleston, 102, Maysville, died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, at a Maysville health-care center.
Mrs. Eggleston was a cook for the Fairport, Mo., school for several years, retiring in 1972.
Born on Nov. 21, 1896, at Fairport, Mo., Mrs. Eggleston, a graduate of Liberty School near Fairport and was a lifelong resident of DeKalb County.
Mrs. Eggleston was a member of United Methodist Church, Fairport and United Methodist Women.
On Dec. 31, 1918, she married Harry F. Eggleston, He died in 1956.
Mrs. Eggleston was also preceded in death by a son, Perry; a daughter, Chlea Irvin; her parents, Ulysses and Margaret Henry; three brothers, Lloyd, Jackson and Harrison Henry; and two sisters, Wava Blevins, and Vernie Turner.
Surviving: two sons, Paul, Maysville, and A.C. , Jonesboro, Ga.; seven grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren.
Service: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Bram Funeral Home, Maysville. Burial: Fairport (Mo.) Cemetery. Visitation: Friends may call anytime. No family visitation is planned. Memorials may be made to Fairport Cemetery Fund in care of the funeral home.

Marie V. Federle
1910-1999
Marie V. Federle, 88, St. Joseph, died Friday, February 12, 1999, at a St. Joseph health-care center.
Miss Federle was employed with the former Douglas Candy Company for several years.
Born Oct. 20, 1910, in St. Joseph, she was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph.
Miss Federle was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Joseph. She attended Convent of the Sacred Heart and was a graduate of Conception Abbey.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Adolph and Mary G.; and a sister, Cecelia Boleski.
Surviving: a niece, MaryAnn Bullimore, Pittsburg, Mo.
Graveside service and burial: 1 p.m. Thursday, Mount Olivet Cemetery, St. Joseph. Arrangements: Meierhoffer Family Funeral Care, St. Joseph.

Donna H. King
1916-1999
CLEARFIELD, Iowa -- Donna Hope King, 82, Clearfield, formerly of Blockton, Iowa, died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, at a Clearfield health-care center.
Miss King, a homemaker, also worked for Groff Locker, Blockton, for 17 years. She taught Sunday school for over 50 years.
Born Feb. 25, 1916, in Blockton, she graduated from Blockton High School. Miss King was a resident of Blockton most of her life, moving to Clearfield five months ago.
She was a member of Blockton Christian Church, the Happy Hour Club, and Blockton Christian Woman.
Miss King was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Mina; and two brothers, Eldon and Duane.
Surviving: a sister, Ila Griffth, Scottsbluff, Neb.
Service: 2 p.m. Thursday, Blockton (Iowa) Christian Church. Burial: Rose Hill Cemetery, Blockton. Visitation: after 8 a.m. Wednesday, Prugh-Dunfee Funeral Home, Grant City, Mo. Family visitation: noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Rose C. Kenney
1901-1999
CAMERON, Mo. -- Rose Catherine Kenney, 97, Cameron, died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, at a Cameron hospital.
Miss Kenney was an insurance agent in Cameron, co-owning and operating the Kenney-Hartzell Insurance Agency since 1947. Before becoming an insurance agent, she worked as deputy ex-officio recorder of deeds for Clinton County, Mo. She also held a civilian position in the Army Air Corps depot, Kansas City, during World War II.
Miss Kenney was a member of Saint Munchins Catholic Church, Cameron and the Clinton County and Cameron historical societies. She also was a member of the Independent Insurance Agents of Missouri and the Honorary Fellows of Truman Library Institute. She also served on the Democratic Congressional Committee.
Miss Kenney was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Margaret; four brothers, Walter, Joseph, Carrol and Lawrence; four sisters, Margaret Downey, Nelle Akey, Grace Switzer and Sara B. Workman.
Surviving: Francis Hartzell, of the home; and several nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, St. Munchins Catholic Church, Cameron. Burial: St. Munchins Catholic Cemetery, Cameron. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Poland-Thompson Funeral Home, Cameron. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Cameron Historical Society in care of the funeral home.

Marguerite A. Myers
1913-1999
Marguerite A. (Talley) Myers, 85, St. Joseph, died Monday, February 15, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Mrs. Myers worked with Chase Candy Company and later the former SS Kresge Store, both of St. Joseph. She then was employed as personnel supervisor with the former Woolworth Store in Downtown St. Joseph and East Hills Shopping Center for over 10 years.
Born May 28, 1913, in St. Joseph, she was a lifelong resident.
She was a member of the former Riverside Presbyterian Church, Union Label League and Navy Mothers and Wives, all of St. Joseph. She also was an active volunteer through the Joyce Rae Patterson Senior Citizens Center.
On December 28, 1933, she married Edward B. Myers in Troy, Kan. He survives of the home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Lora A. Talley; a brother, Charles A. Talley; and a grandchild.
Additional survivors: two sons, Byron D. Sr. and Michael A. Sr., both of St. Joseph; a daughter, Lora L. Nothhouse, Savannah, Mo., her stepmother, Elsie Talley, St. Joseph; a stepsister, Inez Westcott, St. Joseph, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Service: 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Meierhoffer Family Funeral Care, St. Joseph. Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph. Family visitation: 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Lung Association or to the American Kidney Association.
