Albert J. Cashier
1915-1999
PLATTE CITY, Mo. -- Albert Joseph Cashier, 84, Platte City, died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1999, at a North Kansas City hospital.
Mr. Cashier was born Jan. 21, 1915, in Shawnee, Kan. He worked as a foreman for K.C. Structural Steel Co., retiring in 1982.
He served as a military policeman in the Army Air Corps during World War II, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant.
Mr. Cashier was a member of Peter Smith American Legion Post No. 327, Shawnee; member and historian of the Greater Kansas City Belgian-American Club; Belgian Choir; and Platte City United Methodist Church.
On Oct. 11, 1947, he married Carol Hoppes. She survives of the home.

Brendecke, Tempe, Ariz.; five sisters, Mary Edds, Topeka, Kan., Louise Virgin, Kansas City, Kan., Emma DeCaeny, Overland Park, Kan., Berniece Ryckert, Lenexa, Kan., and Margaret Graham, Pinetop, Ariz.; and 10 grandchildren.

Howard B. Clark Jr.
1936-1999
UNION STAR, Mo. -- Howard Buchanan Clark Jr., 62, Union Star, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999, at his residence.
Mr. Clark owned and operated gas stations in Ravanna and Princeton, Mo., for several years. He retired from Peachtree Doors in St. Joseph after many years. He was currently a junior at Missouri Western State College in St. Joseph, where he was majoring in business, and was on the dean's and president's honor lists.
Born in Ravanna on Oct. 25, 1936, he was a member of the Princeton Masonic Lodge No. 35, A.F.&A.M.; and was a licensed ham radio operator.
On Dec. 29, 1994, he married Carol A. Pottorff in Savannah, Mo. She survives of the home.
Mr. Clark was preceded in death by a wife, Sandra; and his parents, Howard B. Sr. and Gertrude M.

Lula L. Clark
1916-1999
Lula Lucy (Gant) Clark, 82, St. Joseph, died Monday, Feb. 22, 1999, at a St. Joseph health-care center.
Mrs. Clark was employed by the former Hotel Robidoux as a fry cook and for the Benton Club, both in St. Joseph.
Born in Aullsville, Mo., on May 12, 1916, she moved from there to Higginsville, Mo., and to St. Joseph in 1947. She attended the Douglas high school in Higginsville and was a former member of the St. Francis Baptist Temple in St. Joseph.
In 1935, she married Earl Clark Sr. in Higginsville. He is deceased.
Mrs. Clark also was preceded in death by a son, Earl Jr.; her parents, Charles and Henrietta Gant; two brothers, Herman and Solon Gant; and five sisters, Nettie Plumar, Helen Pascall, Ella M. Clark, Margaret Carter and Coretha Winfrey.
Surviving: a son, LeRoy, St. Joseph; two daughters, Evelyn Clark and Elnora Gorman, both of St. Joseph; a brother, Charles Gant Jr., Kansas City; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

John F. Egan
1924-1999
John F. Egan, 74, St. Joseph, died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Mr. Egan was employed by Mannschreck's in St. Joseph for several years until retiring in 1979.
Born in St. Joseph on Nov. 20, 1924, he was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph. He was a graduate of the former Christian Brothers High School and was a member of St. Joseph's Cathedral.
Mr. Egan was a preceded in death by his wife, the former Laura C. Gallacher, in 1993; and his parents, John A. and Katherine A.
Surviving: a friend, Benjamin B. Frazer, St. Joseph, who cared for him.

Pearl Fanning

Pearl (Gude) Fanning, 89, St. Joseph, died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Mrs. Fanning was a registered nurse at the former Sister's Hospital, retiring in 1974.
Born in Hamburg, Iowa, on Sept. 29, 1909, she lived in St. Joseph since 1929. She was a graduate of the Hamburg high school and Sister's Hospital School of Nursing.
Mrs. Fanning was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, where she was active in the Altar Society and House of Bread; and Quarter of a Century Club for registered nurses.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George F. Fanning, in 1983; her parents, Clem S. and Emma T. Gude; and six brothers and three sisters.
Surviving: three sons, George G., John M. and Bill J., all of St. Joseph; four daughters, Mary A. Schaefer, Knoxville, Tenn., Kate Shelley, St. Joseph, Margaret L. Sullivan, Buena Vista, Colo., and Linda Mosley, New Bloomfield, Mo.; a brother, Jerry Gude, Hamburg; a sister, Margaruite Wray, Hamburg; 20 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Rita M. Ford

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Rita Mae (Pinzino) Ford, 62, Columbia, formerly of St. Joseph, died Monday, Feb. 22, 1999, at a hospital in Columbia.
Mrs. Ford was employed by Roth's and Buffy's for Children in Columbia for 26 years and was office manager there since 1986.
Born in St. Joseph on May 1, 1936, she was a member of the Newman Center in Columbia.
On May 17, 1958, she married Daun Ford in St. Joseph. He died in 1994.
Mrs. Ford also was preceded in death by her parents, Emilio and Violet Pinzino; and a sister.
Surviving: two daughters, Dawn Lewis, Atlanta, and Tori Powers, Columbia; a son, Kurt B., Castaic, Calif.; two brothers, Salvatore Pinzino, LaPaz, Bolivia, and Jude Pinzino, St. Joseph; a sister, Patricia Foster, Maryville, Mo.; and four grandchildren.

Donald D. George
1943-1999
Donald D. "Pappy" George, 55, St. Joseph, died Monday, Feb. 22, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital.
For 33 years, Mr. George was a firefighter with the St. Joseph Fire Department and became a captain several years ago.
Born in Mound City, Mo., on Oct. 9, 1943, he lived most of his life in St. Joseph. He was a graduate of Lafayette High School in St. Joseph and served in the Navy.
He was a member of the Hyde Park Foursquare Church and Firefighters Union Local No. 77.
On Dec. 31, 1976, he married Nancy L. Ashworth in St. Joseph. She survives of the home.
Mr. George was preceded in death by his parents, Ellsworth D. and Grace L.; three brothers, Jerry, Harold and Russell; and a sister, Twila Loftis.

Joseph J. Gomez
1923-1999
WAUKEGAN, Ill. -- Joseph J. Gomez, 75, Waukegan, formerly of St. Joseph, died Friday, Feb. 19, 1999, at a North Chicago, Ill., hospital.
Mr. Gomez was born in St. Joseph on Aug. 3, 1923. He was a career Navy veteran, serving in World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam War, retiring after 25 years of service.
After retiring from the Navy, he worked as a machinist at Abbott Laboratories for nine years.
Surviving: his wife, the former Shirley Pyszora, of the home; a daughter, Yolanda Ellis, Beach Park, Ill.; a son, Dennis, Cheyenne, Wyo.; five brothers, Donald Hernandez, Nate Hernandez, Johnny Hernandez, Raymond Hernandez and Frankie Hernandez; two sisters, Mary Messa and Margaret Guy; and three grandchildren.
There will be a private family service and burial. Arrangements under the direction of Peterson and Patch Funeral Home, Waukegan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family or to the Veteran's Administration Hospice Unit.
Alvin F.L. Guthals
1913-1999
CLINTON, Mo. -- Alvin Frederick Lewis Guthals, 85, Clinton, formerly of Skidmore, Mo., died Saturday, Feb. 20, 1999, at a health-care center in Clinton.
Mr. Guthals was an engineering consultant and grain specialist for the State Department. For four years, he lived in New Delhi, India, working as an entomology adviser to the Indian government. He also was a sales representative for Gray Manufacturing in St. Joseph.
Born in Gilead, Neb., on March 26, 1913, he graduated from a high school in Farwell, N.M., and was a member of the Eagles Lodge. He also lived in Forest City, Mo.
In the 1930s, he married Doris Tate in Clovis, N.M. They were divorced in 1984.
Mr. Guthals was preceded in death by his parents, John and Frederika; five brothers, Alfred, Richard, Adolph, Lawrence and Arnold; and a sister, Sophia.
Surviving: a daughter, Jo Beth Creighton, Palmdale, Calif.; three sons, Douglas, Gladstone, Mo., Darrell, Clinton, Md., and Michael, Forest City; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The body has been cremated. There will be no visitation or service. Arrangements were by the Pettijohn & Crawford Funeral Home in Mound City, Mo.
Pern McCoy
1906-1999
NORTONVILLE, Kan. -- Pern McCoy, 93, Nortonville, died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1999, at a Nortonville health-care center.
Mr. McCoy was born July 30, 1906, in Valley Falls, Kan. He lived in Topeka, Kan., most of his life where he worked as a concrete contractor for M&M; Small Co. He also worked in the engineering department for the City of Topeka, retiring in 1971.
On Nov. 30, 1981, he married Margaret Cunningham in Topeka. They moved to Nortonville in 1987. She died in 1998.
Mr. McCoy was a member of St. Joseph's Church.
He also was preceded in death by a brother, Barney.
Surviving: a sister, Hazel Sowles, Nortonville.

Edward E. Nally Sr.

STEWARTSVILLE, Mo. -- Edward Eugene Nally Sr., 83, Stewartsville, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999, at a health-care center in Cameron, Mo.
Mr. Nally was a civil service carpenter for the Fort Carson, Colo., Army military post for 28 years until retiring in 1975. During World War II, he served in the Army.
Born in Dodge City, Kan., on Dec. 18, 1915, he lived in Fort Carson before moving to Stewartsville in 1978. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Stewartsville.
On Jan. 31, 1943, he married Mary E. Word in Widefield, Colo. She died in 1990.
Mr. Nally also was preceded in death by his parents, James and Laura; a brother, Rex; and a sister, Rocetha Favors.
Surviving: a son, Edward Jr., Alexis, Ill.; a daughter, Marian Selby, St. Joseph; two brothers, Lawrence, Manchester, Tenn., and Floyd, California state; two sisters, Grace Hanson, Sweetwater, Texas, and Dorothy Thompson, Midland, Texas; and two grandchildren.

James A. Offutt

PLATTE CITY, Mo. -- James A. Offutt, 88, Platte City, formerly of Weston, Mo., died Monday, Feb. 22, 1999, at a health-care center in Platte City.
For 52 years, Mr. Offutt was owner and operator of Offutt's Jewelry Store in Weston until retiring in 1980.
Born in Platte County, Mo., on Dec. 29, 1910, he was a lifelong resident of that county.
Mr. Offutt was a member of the United Methodist Church; Masonic Lodge No. 53, A.F.&A.M.;, of which he served as secretary; and Order of the Eastern Star No. 197, all of Weston; Weston Commandery No. 2, Knights Templar; Weston chapter No. 4, Royal Arch Masons; and St. Joseph Council No. 9, Cryptic Masons.
On March 15, 1936, he married Mary E. Woodring in Westson. She is deceased.
Mr. Offutt also was preceded in death by his parents, Otho and Lillian B.; and a sister, Edith MacVaugh.
Surviving: two sons, Kenneth M., Kansas City, and Ned J., Weston; a daughter, Linda L. Graves, Weston; a sister, Josephine Pierce, Leavenworth, Kan.; and two grandchildren.

L. Crystal Owens

LARGO, Fla. -- Leota Crystal (Wilson) Owens, 94, Largo, formerly of Grant City, Mo., died Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999, at a hospital in Largo.
Born in Parnell, Mo., on April 27, 1904, Mrs. Owens resided in Largo since 1991.
A homemaker, she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star; Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, of which she was a past worthy high priestess; Daughters of the Nile and Order of Amaranth, all of Yuma, Ariz.
On Dec. 27, 1922, she married Arthur L. Owens. They farmed in Worth County, Mo., for many years and moved to Yuma in 1956. He died in 1966, and she moved to Florida in 1991.
Mrs. Owens also was preceded in death by a daughter, Eula J. Owens; a son, Billie L.; her parents, William A. and Pearl Wilson; and a brother, William A.
Surviving: a son, Bobbie D., Clearwater, Fla.; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
