Quentin G. Birt

CLARKSDALE, Mo. -- Quentin G. Birt, 96, Clarksdale, died Saturday, March 20, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Mr. Birt was employed by the St. Joseph State Hospital. He also served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
Born Oct. 21, 1902, in Edgemont, S.D., he moved to Clarksdale in 1910. He attended Clarksdale High School and was a member of the Clarksdale United Methodist Church.
Mr. Birt also was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 559, AF & AM, Clarksdale and Stewartsville American Legion, Stewartsville, Mo.
On Nov. 27, 1943, he married Jean Kinder in Wathena, Kan. She survives of the home.
Mr. Birt was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Florence; two brothers, Emory and Kenneth; and three sisters, Norabelle Clark, Vergelia McClure and Bergie Maynard.
Additional survivors: several nieces and nephews.

Marie Boydston
1921-1999
KANSAS CITY -- Marie (Smith) Boydston, 77, Kansas City, formerly of Camden Point and Faucett, Mo., died Saturday, March 20, 1999, at a Kansas City hospital.
Mrs. Boydston was born June 29, 1921, near Dearborn, Mo. She grew up and attended school in the Camden Point area.
On Feb. 9, 1939, she married Claud W. Boydston. They lived near Camden Point after their marriage. In 1970, they moved near Faucett and then to Trimble, Mo., in 1991. After that, they moved to Grayson, Mo., and then to Kansas City. He died in 1996.
Mrs. Boydston also was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur W. and Eva E. Smith; seven brothers, Maurice, Mike, Calvin, Albert, Martin, Claude and Jack Smith; and a sister, Naomi Sowder.
Surviving: a son, Kenneth, Kansas City; three brothers, James Smith, Wenatchee, Wash. and The Rev. Tom and Bob Smith, both of Topeka, Kan.; a sister, Velma Spinner, Laveta, Colo.; two grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and six step- great-grandchildren.

Doris M. Jackson

KANSAS CITY -- Doris M. (Goosey) Jackson, 68, Kansas City, formerly of Pattonsburg, Mo., died Friday, March 19, 1999, at a Kansas City hospital.
Mrs. Jackson worked as a lay-out artist for The Yearbook House, Kansas City.
Born Feb. 18, 1931, in Holt, Mo., she was a graduate of Plattsburg (Mo.) High School.
Mrs. Jackson was a member of the Methodist faith.
In 1953, she married Johnnie Jackson. He died in 1992.
Mrs. Jackson also was preceded in death by her father, James Goosey.
Surviving: a daughter, Doris Gumminger, Kansas City; her mother, Beulah Ramsey, Kearney, Mo.; a brother, Robert E. Goosey, Fresno, Calif.; three sisters, Gene A. Pooler, Pattonsburg, Alma Gannaway, Holt, and Patty Mulkey, Liberty, Mo.; and two grandchildren.

Faye Vinzant
1900-1999
PRINCETON, Mo. -- Faye (Manchester) Vinzant, 98, Princeton, died Friday, March 19, 1999, at a Princeton health-care center.
Mrs. Vinzant, a homemaker, lived most of her life in Mercer County, Mo.
Born April 18, 1900, near Mercer, Mo., she was a member of the Mercer Assembly of God Church.
On April 25, 1917, she married Hugh Vinzant. He died in 1993.
Mrs. Vinzant also was preceded in death by a son, Bernard; her parents, John and Martha Manchester; one sister, Audie Manchester; four brothers, Forrest, Leland, Thomas and Francis Manchester; and three grandchildren.
Surviving: two daughters, Nadean Moore, Princeton, and Alene Shields, Fairview, Okla.; a son, Wendell, Nevada, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and five step- great-great-grandchildren.

Delbert E. Weddle Sr.
1910-1999
GOWER, Mo. -- Delbert E. Weddle Sr., 88, Gower, formerly of St. Joseph, died Sunday, March 21, 1999, at a Gower, Mo., health-care facility.
Mr. Weddle owned and operated Weddle's DX Service from 1945, until his retirement in 1976.
Born Nov. 21, 1910, in St. Joseph, he was raised in the Stewartsville, Mo., area. He moved to St. Joseph in 1936.
Mr. Weddle was a member of Westminister Presbyterian Church, St. Joseph.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice L.; a son, Jay D.; his parents, James A. and Claudia; two brothers, Hubert and Vernon; and three sisters, Marguerite Smith, Frances McGrath and Claudine Briggs.
Surviving: a son, Delbert E. Jr., St. Joseph; a daughter, Sherry Schilling, St. Joseph; a brother, Wesley, Kansas City; two sisters, Lois Johnson and Donna Glenski, both of St. Joseph; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Gladys D. Wright
1930-1999
SMITHVILLE, Mo. -- Gladys D. (Tompkins) Wright, 68, rural Smithville, died Saturday, March 20, 1999, at her home.
Mrs. Wright worked as a registered nurse in the Kansas City area from 1952 to 1991.
Born June 24, 1930, near Barnard, Mo., she was a graduate of Maryville (Mo.) High School. She went on to attend nursing school at Kansas City General Hospital.
Mrs. Wright was a member of Ridgely Christian Church, Ridgely, Mo.
On July 23, 1952, she married Lloyd E. Wright in Maryville. After their marriage, they lived in Barnard until 1955, when they moved to the Kansas City area. They stayed there until 1989, when they moved to rural Smithville. Her husband, Lloyd, survives of the home.
Mrs. Wright was preceded in death by her parents, Orville D. and Gladys E. Tompkins.
Additional survivors: four sons, Lloyd J., Hoover, Mo., Kenneth D., Kansas City, Ralph J., Holt, Mo., and David L., Kearney, Mo.; a brother, Francis Tompkins, St. Joseph; and nine grandchildren.

Geneve N. Brown
Geneve N. Brown, St. Joseph, died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital after a brief illness.
Miss Brown began teaching in 1928 for the Jameson, Mo., public schools. Later she taught for the Hamburg and Clarinda, Iowa, public schools. She also was a teacher and principal for the St. Joseph School District, and was a visiting instructor at several colleges during the summer.
Born in Jameson, she lived in St. Joseph for most of her life. She earned a bachelor of science degree from Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville; a master's degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder; and did post graduate study at the University of Missouri, Kansas City.
Miss Brown was a member of the First Baptist Church, St. Joseph; Gallatin, Mo., chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution; Kappa chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma society; Phi Delta Kappa; Missouri State Teachers Association; Missouri Association of Elementary Principals and Daviess County, Mo., Historical Society.
She was preceded in death by her parents Hadley and Sadie E. Brown; and two brothers, Voris O. and Gilbert H. Brown.
Surviving: two sisters, Imo C. Brown, St. Joseph, and Eva M. Lloyd, Maryville; and a brother, Donald A., Kansas City.
Service: 1 p.m. Friday, First Baptist Church, St. Joseph. The body will be taken to the church one hour before the service. Burial: Grand River Cemetery, Jameson. Timothy Brown
1966-1999
MARYVILLE, Mo. -- Timothy "Tim" Brown, 33, Maryville, died Sunday, March 28, 1999, at his home after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Brown was born March 22, 1966, in Maryville, and lived all his life in the Maryville area.
He graduated from the Maryville High School and was a member of the First Christian Church in Maryville. He also was vice-president of "People First," an organization for people with disabilities and a member of the Region I Council on Developmental Disabilities for a 12-county area in Northwest Missouri.
Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his grandparents, Laverne Kling and Charles and Mignon Brown.
Surviving: his mother and stepfather, Lenda and Vernon Kling, Maryville; his father and stepmother, Robert and Donna Brown, Topeka, Kan.; a sister, Sarah Graham, Maryville; and his grandparents, Boneta Kling, Maryville, and Glen and Lyda Muir, St. Joseph.

Colene Buzzard
1919-1999
TRENTON, Mo. -- Colene (Eaves) Buzzard, 79, Trenton, formerly of Chillicothe, Mo., died Monday, March 29, 1999, at a Trenton health-care center.
Mrs. Buzzard was a bookkeeper for the Northrup Aircraft Co. in California.
Born on Nov. 17, 1919, in Trenton, she was a graduate of Trenton High School and a member of the Highview Baptist Church in Chillicothe. She resided in California for several years and moved to Chillicothe in 1989.
On Feb. 28, 1937, she married Cordis W. Buzzard in Trenton. He died in 1989.
Mrs. Buzzard also was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Lorena Eaves Sr.; and two brothers, Robert D. Eaves Jr. and Jerry Eaves.
Surviving: a daughter, Diane McGraw, Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.; a sister, Laura J. Brown, Trenton; a brother, Tommy Eaves, St. Joseph; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Service: 2 p.m. Thursday, Slater Funeral Home, Trenton. Burial: Independent Order of Odd Fellows Cemetery, Trenton. There is no scheduled family visitation.
Sister Mary V. Derks
1909-1999
ATCHISON, Kan. -- Sister Mary Vincent Derks, 89, a Benedictine Sister of Mount St. Scholastica, Atchison, died there Thursday, March 25, 1999.
Sister Derks taught in elementary schools staffed by the Benedictine Sisters in Kansas, Iowa, Missouri and California. She was a school principal in Seneca, Kan.; and in West Covina, Calif. After her retirement, she served as supervisor of the monastery laundry for six years, and as a tutor and substitute teacher.
Born Anna Rose Derks in Gotebo, Okla., on July 18, 1909, she attended St. Aloysia Academy in Chickasha, Okla., and later Mount St. Scholastica Academy in Atchison. Sister Derks earned a bachelor's degree in education and economics from Mount St. Scholastica College, Atchison; and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Notre Dame. She attended Loyola University in Los Angeles and the University of Missouri in Kansas City.
Sister Derks joined the Benedictine Sisters in 1926 and made her monastic profession in 1928.
Surviving: four sisters, Katherine Fix, Mable Herner, Theresa Sharp and Betty Sparks; and two brothers, Joseph and John Derks.
The Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, March 29, at the choir chapel of Mount St. Scholastica, Atchison. Burial was in the Sisters' cemetery, Atchison. Memorials may be made to the Benedictine Sisters. Arrangements were by the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home, Atchison.
Wanda L. Dodge
1931-1999
FAIRVIEW, Kan. -- Wanda L. (Bailey) Dodge, 67, Fairview, died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at the Hiawatha, Kan., hospital.
Mrs. Dodge was employed by the Del Monico Hotel as a waitress, at the Regency Nursing Home and Flair-Fold shutter factory, all of Hiawatha. She assisted with special education in Hiawatha and drove a school bus for the Hiawatha School District No. 415. Mrs. Dodge also worked for the Fairview Locker Plant and lived on a farm southeast of Fairview.
Born on July 2, 1931, in Galt, Mo., she attended the Sabetha, Kan., high school and Fairview high school, and later received a General Equivalency Degree.
She was a member of the Delaware Baptist Church in Fairview.
On Aug. 5, 1949, she married Wayne Dodge in Jensen, Neb. He survives of the home.
Mrs. Dodge was preceded in death by her parents, Orville Sr. and Lela Bailey; and three brothers, Wayne, Victor and Donald F. Bailey.
Additional survivors: two daughters, Rita Winters, Holton, Kan., and Vonda Dietrich, Morrill, Kan.; two sons, Sherman, Fairview, and John, Livingston, Mont.; two brothers, Orville Bailey Jr., Loveland, Colo., and Jerry Bailey, Fairview; and nine grandchildren.

Bonnie Elseman

STANBERRY, Mo. -- Bonnie (Lockhart) Elseman, 86, Stanberry, died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at a Stanberry health-care center.
Mrs. Elseman owned and operated B and C Caf for six years and Bonnie's Beauty for 15 years. Both were in Stanberry.
Born Jan. 15, 1913, in Jonesville, Va., Mrs. Elseman was a member of the United Methodist Church of Stanberry.
On Oct. 10, 1944, she married Charles J. Elseman, in Troy, Kan. He died in 1989.
Mrs. Elseman also was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew B. and Martha L. Lockhart; three brothers, John, Andrew, and Gene Lockhart; and a sister, Virginia Phillips.
Surviving: a sister, Maude Wilson, Ravenwood, Mo.

Helen P. Greenwood

HAMILTON, Mo. -- Helen P. Greenwood, 78, Hamilton, died Monday, March 29, 1999, at a hospital in Overland Park, Kan.
Born in Breckenridge, Mo., on Sept. 23, 1920, Mrs. Greenwood lived in Breckenridge most of her life until moving to Hamilton in 1994.
On Aug. 6, 1942, she married Reginald Greenwood in Breckenridge. He died in 1993.
Mrs. Greenwood also was preceded in death by a son, Robert; and a brother, James.
Surviving: two daughters, Judy Bowman, Maryville, Mo., and Sharon Grant, Hamilton; a son, Jim, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and eight grandchildren.
