Mildred B. Hiebert
1911-1999
ATCHISON, Kan. -- Mildred B. Hiebert, 87, Atchison, died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at an Atchison hospital.
Mrs. Hiebert was a homemaker and a member of the Methodist faith.
Born Dec. 22, 1911, in Anthony, Kan., she moved to Atchison in 1959.
Mrs. Hiebert was preceded in death by a son, Jerry McNames; her parents, Roy and Ida B. Gill; and a sister, Frieda Caulkins.
Surviving: a daughter, Alice B. Mercer, Atchison; a son, Earl McNames, Atchison; two sisters, Dorothy Withers, Salt Lake City, and Royalene Best, Lincoln, Neb.; a brother, Roy Gill Jr., Pratt, Kan.; three grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; a great-grandchild; and nine step great-grandchildren.
Graveside service and burial: 10 a.m. Friday, Oak Hill Cemetery, Atchison. Visitation: 8 to 10 a.m. Friday, Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home, Atchison. There is no scheduled family visitation.

Paul E. Kelly
1916-1999
MERRIAM, Kan. -- Paul Edward Kelly, 83, Merriam, formerly of St. Joseph, died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at the home of his son, Michael C., in Kansas City, Kan.
Mr. Kelly was born Jan. 6, 1916, in Ogden, Kan. He served in the Air Force as a pilot during World War II. He was shot down over Romania and taken as a prisoner of war.
After returning to the United States, he remained with the Air Force reserves, retiring in 1983 with the rank of colonel.
Mr. Kelly also worked for Dickinson Theaters and in 1933 became one of the first theater managers with the company. He retired in 1982 as vice present and treasurer.
In 1974, he became president of the United Motion Picture Association, and also was co-chairman of the Show-A-Rama Theatre Convention for several years. He was awarded "Pioneer of the Year" in 1978, and was active in the Overland Park (Kan.) Host Lions Club.
Mr. Kelly was a member of the 15th Air Force Association, the Romanian Prisoners of War Association and the Trinity Lutheran Church, Mission, Kan.
On Sept. 2, 1943, he married Virginia L. Beurmann. The couple moved to Merriam in 1947. She preceded him in death.
Mr. Kelly also was preceded in death by a brother, Robert.
Additional survivors: a daughter, Cyndee Simpson, St. Joseph; a brother, John, Manhattan, Kan.; a sister, Rosemary Chambers, Knoxville, Tenn.; and three grandchildren.
Service: 11 a.m. Saturday, D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel. Burial: Johnson County Memorial Gardens, Overland Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Overland Park Host Lions Club or Trinity Lutheran Church in Mission.

Hinckley L. Lose
1906-1999
BETHANY, Mo. -- Hinckley Lee Lose, 92, Bethany, died Tuesday, March 30, 1999 at a Bethany health-care center.
Mr. Lose was a farmer and manager of Nichols Apartments in Bethany.
Born Sept. 16, 1906, in Hatfield, Mo., he lived in the Hatfield area until moving to Bethany in 1985.
Mr. Lose was a member of the Church of Christ, Bethany.
On Oct. 15, 1952, he married Lucille M. Mathes in Auburn, Neb. She survives of the home.
Service: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Bethany Memorial Chapel. Burial: Miriam Cemetery, Bethany. Visitation: noon to 5 p.m. today and 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Hinckley and Lucille Lose Scholarship Fund, in care of Marilyn Flesher, 2104 Wilson St., Bethany, MO 64424.

Ogla M. Lyle
1906-1999
MARYVILLE, Mo. -- Ogla Marie (Brown) Lyle, 92, Maryville, died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, at a Maryville health-care center.
Born July 12, 1906, in Spokane, Wash., Mrs. Lyle lived in Maitland, Mo., before moving to Maryville. She was a homemaker and a member of the Maitland Presbyterian Church.
On July 16, 1922, she married Harold A. Lyle in Maitland. He died in 1984.
Mrs. Lyle also was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest F. and Stella Brown; and a brother, Paul Brown.
Surviving: a son, Homer, Aurora, Colo.; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Service: 11 a.m. Monday, Maitland Presbyterian Church. Burial: Maitland Cemetery. Arrangements: Price Funeral Home, Maryville.

Jerold L. Merriott Sr.
1936-1999
HEMPLE, Mo. -- Jerold L. "Jerry" Merriott Sr., 62, Hemple, formerly of St. Joseph, died Monday, March 29, 1999, near Chicago after suffering an apparent heart attack while driving for the Ken Pratt Trucking Co.
Mr. Merriott worked for the Dugdale Packing Co., St. Joseph, for over 20 years. He drove trucks for Pillsbury, Farmland and Peach Tree Door, all of St. Joseph, and currently was driving for the Ken Pratt Trucking Co., Platte City, Mo. He also was a self-employed trucker for many years.
Born Sept. 26, 1936, in St. Joseph, he was a graduate of Benton High School, St. Joseph. He served with the Air National Guard for many years and was a member of the Christian faith.
On Feb. 21, 1958, he married Mary Shellenberger. After their marriage, they lived in St. Joseph before moving to Easton, Mo. In 1976, they moved to Hemple, where she survives of the home.
Mr. Merriott was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence C. and Kathryn B.
Additional survivors: a son, Jerold L. Jr. of the home; four daughters, Kathy Fridell, Easton, Diana Kendall, Osborn, Mo., Tracy Kempf, Faucett, Mo., and Paula Craven, Kansas City; a sister, Carolyn Shurvington, St. Joseph; his stepmother, Ethel, Gower; two stepsisters, Maxine Jackson, Easton, and Geraldine Jackson, Stewartsville, Mo.; and 11 grandchildren.
Service: 11 a.m. Friday, Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Gower. Burial: Freeman Chapel Cemetery, Easton. Family visitation: 6:30 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Leonard A. Edwards
1918-1999
Leonard A. Edwards, 80, St. Joseph, died Thursday, March 25, 1999, while on vacation in Oceanside, Calif.
Mr. Edwards served as a medical technician in the Army for 20 years until retiring in 1966 after participating in World War II and the Korean War. He also had worked for the St. Joseph Health Department and retired in 1980.
Born in Ossette, Mont., on Nov. 4, 1918, he had lived most of his life in St. Joseph. He was a graduate of Benton High School in St. Joseph.
On June 29, 1946, he married Fannie O. Bracesco in Marseilles, France. She died in 1996.
Mr. Edwards also was preceded in death by a son, Louis; a daughter, Jeanne-marie Edwards; his parents, C. Fred and Frieda; a brother, Charles; and a sister, Mildred Corder.
Surviving: three daughters, Frieda Grimm, St. Joseph, Monique Francis, Tucson, Ariz., and Denise Black, Oceanside; a sister, Florence Dickerson, Clinton, Mo.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Service: 10:30 a.m. today, Clark-Sampson Funeral Home, St. Joseph. Burial: Leavenworth, Kan., National Cemetery. Memorials made be made to the Hands of Hope Hospice in St. Joseph.

Lawrence H. Holland
1899-1999
SAVANNAH, Mo. -- Lawrence Henry Holland, 99, Savannah, formerly of Whitesville, Mo., died Thursday, March 1, 1999, at a health-care center in Savannah.
Mr. Holland had farmed and been a self-employed mechanic in the Rochester, Mo., and Whitesville areas all of his adult life.
Born north of Rochester on Oct. 22, 1899, he had lived in the Rochester area before moving to Whitesville in 1956.
He attended the Black Oak rural school at Rochester and served in the Army during World War II.
Mr. Holland was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Martha E.; six brothers, Chester, Russell, Wilbur, Virgil, Orville and an infant; and two sisters, Amy Hammer and Zola Elliott.
Surviving: nephews and nieces, including Earl Hammer and Ronald Holland, both of Helena, Mo.; and Doris Simerly, St. Joseph, and Virginia Hollingsworth, Lee's Summit, Mo.
Graveside service and burial: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Coffman Cemetery, Savannah. Visitation: after noon today, at the Breit & Hawkins Funeral Home, Savannah. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Juanita Hyde
1907-1999
ATCHISON, Kan. -- Juanita (Rumbaugh) Hyde, 91, Atchison, died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, at an Overland Park, Kan., hospital.
Mrs. Hyde had worked as a registered nurse at hospitals in Lawrence and Atchison, Kan.
Born in Oskaloosa, Kan., on May 13, 1907, she was a graduate of the Oskaloosa high school and earned a registered nurse degree from Christ Hospital school of nursing in Topeka, Kan.
Mrs. Hyde was a member of the United Methodist Church; and Atchison Registered Nurses Club, of which she was a past president.
On July 21, 1940, she married Francis Hyde in Riverside Calif. He died in 1994.
Mrs. Hyde also was preceded in death by her parents, Matthew and Grace Rumbaugh; and two brothers.
Surviving: a son, Robert C., Olathe, Kan.; a sister, Marian Bartlett, Bertrand, Mo.; and five grandchildren.
Service: 11 a.m. Saturday, Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison. Burial: Mount Vernon Cemetery, Atchison. Family visitation: 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church.

Adelle E. Jones
1911-1999
MARYVILLE, Mo. -- Adelle Earnestine (Johnson) Jones, 87, Maryville, formerly of Skidmore, Mo., died Thursday, April 1, 1999, at a health-care center in Maryville.
Born in Wills Point, Texas, on Nov. 28, 1911, Mrs. Jones had lived most of her life in and near Skidmore.
A former homemaker, she attended the Graham rural school and was a member of the Skidmore Christian Church.
On Jan. 7, 1929, she married John O. Jones Sr. in Maryville. He died in 1984.
Mrs. Jones also was preceded in death by a son, John O. Jr.; her parents, Floyd A. and Barbara J. Johnson; five brothers, Robert, Noel, Mike, Russell and Dale Johnson; and three sisters, Lettie Davis, Sarah Coston and Virginia McNeely.
Surviving: a son, Thomas, McAlaster, Okla.; a daughter, Roberta Reed, Pleasant Valley, Mo.; a brother, Milburn Johnson, Shenandoah, Iowa; two sisters, Edna Zion, Skidmore, and JoAnn Sportsman, Graham, Mo.; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and three step great-great-grandchildren.
Service: 2 p.m. Saturday, Christian Church, Skidmore. Burial: Hillcrest Cemetery, Skidmore. Family visitation: 7 to 9 tonight, at the Johnson Funeral Home, Maryville.

Norman L. Long
1922-1999
CHULA, Mo. -- Norman Lee "Tom" Long, 76, Chula, died Thursday, April 1, 1999, at a health-care center in Chillicothe, Mo.
Mr. Long had been employed by the Chula Co-op for 29 years. He also served on the Chula Volunteer Fire Department.
Born in Livingston County, Mo., on Aug. 28, 1922, he served in the Navy during World War II. He had been a member of the Chula City Board and May Cemetery Board.
On Jan. 16, 1954, he married Fern Cook in Chillicothe. She survives of the home.
Mr. Long was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Inez; and four sisters.
Additional survivors: a daughter, Carolyn Owens, St. Joseph; a brother, Adrian, Kansas City; a sister, Eula Collins, Chillicothe; and a grandchild.
Service: 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe. Burial: May Cemetery, Chula. Visitation: noon to 9 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home. There is no scheduled family visitation. Memorials may be made to the Chula First Responders in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, MO 64601.

Lois M. Oaks
1927-1999
WEATHERBY, Mo. -- Lois M. (Bengtson) Oaks, 71, Weatherby, died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, at the Liberty, Mo., hospital of cancer.
Mrs. Oaks, a homemaker, also had worked as a clerk for the Gallatin, Mo., Sale Barn, and the Eddie Pickett Auction Service at Stewartsville, Mo.
Born in Robinson, Kan., on June 18, 1927, she had lived in Independence, Mo., before moving to Weatherby in 1975.
She was a graduate of the Everest, Kan., high school and attended Highland, Kan., Junior College. Mrs. Oaks attended the Weatherby United Methodist Church, where she was active in United Methodist Women; and was a member of the Mount Washington chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, Independence. She attended the Maysville, Mo., chapter, Order of the Eastern Star.
On June 18, 1948, she married William B. Oaks in Everest. He died in 1991.
Mrs. Oaks also was preceded in death by a son, Steven; and her parents, John and Christal Bengtson.
Surviving: a son, John, Weatherby; a brother, Delmar Bengtson, State College, Pa.; and two grandchildren.
Service: 10 a.m. Saturday, Bram Funeral Home, Maysville. Burial: Mount Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha, Kan. Family visitation: 7 to 8 tonight, at the funeral home.
