Dixie L. Sample

Dixie L. (Carter) Sample, 72, St. Joseph, died Thursday, April 8, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Sample had been employed as a bookkeeper for Montgomery Ward and Co. for two years. She also had worked at Lawrence and Dixie's Welcome Inn, and the Corby Inn for six years.
Born in St. Joseph on Oct. 13, 1926, she was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph.
On May 3, 1970, she married Lawrence Sample. He survives of the home.
Mrs. Sample was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Deliah Carter; a brother, Robert Carter; and two sisters, Maxine Sample and Joy Carter.
Additional survivors: a son, Robert Smith, St. Joseph; two stepsons, Larry and Jeff Sample, both of St. Joseph; a stepdaughter, Julie Akers, Omaha, Neb.; three grandchildren; and five stepgrandchildren.
Family visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Meierhoffer Family Funeral Care, St. Joseph. The body will be cremated following the visitation.
George L. Sandusky

George Leonard Sandusky, 84, St. Joseph, died Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Mr. Sandusky had been a maintenance supervisor for the St. Joseph Light and Power Co. until retiring. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps.
Born in Howe, Neb., on March 10, 1915, he was a graduate of Central High School and a member of the King Hill Baptist Church.
On Oct. 3, 1940, he married Eloise Hazelwood in St. Joseph. She survives of the home.
Mr. Sandusky was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lawrence; and three sisters, Ethel Munsell, Anna Nigh and Mildred Gardner.
Additional survivors: two sons, Donald, Charleston, Ind., and David, Los Gatos, Calif.; two sisters, Dorothy Legg, Tucson, Ariz., and Evelyn Gray, Poway, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

Lloyd D. Scharringhausen
1935-1999
ROCK PORT, Mo. - Lloyd Duane Scharringhausen, 64, Rock Port, died Tuesday, April 6, 1999, at his home.
Mr. Scharringhausen had been a bookkeeper for the Rock Port Sales Pavilion in Rock Port. He also had farmed with his parents, Henry and Pearl, north of Rock Port; and had a lawn care service in Rock Port, all until retiring.
Born in Nishnabotna, Mo., on March 24, 1935, he moved from there to north of Rock Port and into Rock Port in 1981.
Mr. Scharringhausen was a graduate of the Rock Port high school and attended the Commercial Extension College of Business in Omaha, Neb. He served in the Army from 1960 to 1963.
He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Rock Port; and Rock Port Bowling Association.
Mr. Scharringhausen was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Pearl.
Surviving: cousins, aunts and uncles.
Service: 2 p.m. Sunday, First Lutheran Church, Rock Port. Burial: Hunter Cemetery, Rock Port. Visitation: after 10 a.m. Saturday, at the Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port. Shirley I. Scott

ATCHISON, Kan. - Shirley I. (Conard) Scott, 61, Atchison, died Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at a Kansas City hospital.
Mrs. Scott was born in Weston, Mo., on Sept. 1910, 1937. She graduated from Weston High School and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Atchison.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Vivian Conard; a brother, Joseph Conard; and a sister, Alice Drake.
Surviving: six sons, Donald J. Kelley, Tacoma, Wash., Carl D. Scott, Houston, Texas, Michael W. Scott, Kansas City, Kenneth W. and Kevin J. Scott, both of Atchison, and Richard E. Scott, Kansas City, Kan.; her father, Joseph Conard, Rushville, Mo.; two brothers, Keith Conard, Rushville, and Gary Conard, Dixon, Mo.; three sisters, Glenda Martin, Atchison, Sandra Conard, Rushville, and Brenda Rush, Bendena, Kan.; and nine grandchildren.

Mona K. (Warner) Sidenstucker, 46, St. Joseph, died Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Sidenstucker had been employed as an X-ray technician for Heartland Health System from 1986 to 1992. Presently, she was working for Specialists of Internal Medicine.
Born in St. Joseph on July 20, 1952, she was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph. Mrs. Sidenstucker was a graduate of Central High School and received her certification as an X-ray technician in 1973.
She was of the Baptist faith and a member of the American Radiology Association.
On Jan. 17, 1986, she married John S. Sidenstucker. He survives of the home.
Mrs. Sidenstucker was preceded in death by her parents, Tike and Marilyn J. Warner.

John A. Sommerville

BEATRICE, Neb. - John A. Sommerville, 86, Beatrice, died Tuesday, April 6, 1999, at a Grand Island, Neb., hospital.
Mr. Sommerville was born May 26, 1912, in Colgate, Okla. He moved to Falls City, Neb., with his mother following his father's death.
He served in the Army during World War II as a sergeant, receiving a medical discharge.
On Aug. 15, 1951, he married Lenora L. Allen in Minneapolis, Kan. She survives of the home.
The couple lived in Abilene, Kan., after their marriage and later lived in Fairbury, Neb. They had lived in Beatrice the past seven years.
Mr. Sommerville worked as a machinist for Dempster Corp. in Beatrice for 19 years. He also worked for Union Pacific Railroad for several years.
He was a member of Disabled American Veterans and Homestead Chapter No. 26 of Beatrice.
Mr. Sommerville was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary C.; and a sister, Mildred Wilkinson.
Additional survivors: two sons, Larry, Falls City, and Raymond, Mahaska, Kan.; four daughters, Joanna M. Pate and Alice Williams, both of Beatrice, Caroline D. BRAYMER, Mo. - A. Ward Stanberry, 94, Braymer, died Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at the Liberty, Mo., hospital.
Mr. Stanberry, born in Grundy County, Mo., on Feb. 25, 1905, had served in the Army. He was a member of the Braymer United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion M. and Nova.

CAMERON, Mo. - Doris G. (Williams) Taylor, 75, Cameron, died Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at a Kansas City hospital following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Taylor was born on July 31, 1923, in Cameron where she graduated from Cameron High School.
A homemaker, she was a member of Maysville Christian Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and Eastern Star, all of Maysville, Mo.
On Oct. 19, 1941, she married Glen O. Taylor in Cameron. They lived in Maysville after their marriage. She moved back to Cameron in 1993 after her husband's death.
Mrs. Taylor also was preceded in death by a son, Steve; her parents, Kyle and Carrie Williams; three sisters, Lois Shay, Grace Greenlee and Frances Harris; and two brothers, LeRoy and Russell Williams.
Surviving: two daughters, Sandra Rogers, St. Joseph, and Sharon Adams, Cameron; a sister, Georgia Winnas, Del Rio, Texas; and 12 grandchildren.
