Myrtle J. Riddell

GALLATIN, Mo. -- Myrtle J. (Ream) Riddell, 92, Gallatin, died Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, at a Gallatin health-care center.
Mrs. Riddell was a homemaker, and taught school in Kidder, Mo., in her earlier years.
Born May 23, 1906, in Kidder, she was a lifelong area resident. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Altamont, Mo.
On Dec. 25, 1926, she married Glenn Riddell in Kidder. He died in 1989.
Mrs. Riddell also was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Ida Ream; and a great-grandchild.
Surviving: a son, Dale, Shawnee, Kan.; a daughter, Janie Mangus, Denver; a sister, Helen Allen, Midlothian, Va.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Allen Short
1911-1999
HASTINGS, Neb. -- Allen Short, 87, Hastings, formerly of Maryville, Mo., died Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, at a hospital in Lincoln, Neb.
Mr. Short was formerly employed as a pressman for the Maryville Daily Forum, and was a fire captain and public safety dispatcher for the city of Maryville. He retired from Northwest Missouri State University-Maryville, as a security guard.
Born May 22, 1911, in Stanberry, Mo., he was a graduate of Maryville High School. He served with the Army during World War II, and lived in Maryville from 1933 until 1993, when he moved to Hastings.
Mr. Short was a member of the Salem Church, Barnard, Mo., and James Edward Gray American Legion Post No. 100, Maryville.
On Sept. 30, 1933, he married Lottie M. Furlong in Barnard. She survives of the home.
Mr. Short was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert and Myra.
Additional survivors: a daughter, Nancy H. Dunaway, Hastings; a brother, Walter, Barnard; a sister, Norma Colter, Springfield, Mo.; two grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and a step-great-great-grandchild.

Lewis A. Sparks
1941-1999
HIAWATHA, Kan. -- Lewis Arthur Sparks, 57, Hiawatha, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999, at a Hiawatha hospital.
Mr. Sparks, a ranch hand, worked on many operations, including a long period in Wyoming.
Born Oct. 27, 1941, in Tonganoxie, Kan., he was a graduate of the McClouth (Kan.) High School. He was a veteran of the Navy.
In 1964, he married Nancy C. McQeen. They divorced in 1983. He married his second wife, Bendy Warren, in 1985. They were divorced in 1996.
Mr. Sparks was preceded in death by a daughter, Sondra; and his father, LeRoy.
Surviving: two sons, LeRoy, Topeka, Kan., and Kody R., of the home; a stepson, Preston Warren; two daughters, Nicolette Johnson, Hiawatha, and Jeannie Keil, Shoshonie, Wyo.; two brothers, James C., Hiawatha, and Vernon J., Oskaloosa, Kan.; his mother, Marjorie, Oskaloosa; a sister, Ann M. Myers, Tampa, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

Edna L. Wagenknecht

GOWER, Mo. -- Edna L. (Powers) Wagenknecht, 89, Gower, formerly of St. Joseph, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999, at a Gower health-care center.
Mrs. Wagenknecht was employed at Conser Laundry, then as a saleslady for the former Townsend & Wall department store, Plymouth department store and the Clay Francis grocery store, all of St. Joseph.
Born Jan. 31, 1909, in St. Joseph, she was a lifelong St. Joseph resident. She was a member of Huffman United Methodist Church, St. Joseph, and the United Methodist Women of the church. She also was a member of the Rebecca Fellowship, Order of Eastern Star and Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem.
Mrs. Wagenknecht was preceded in death by her husband, John Wagenknecht, in 1963; and her parents, Archie and Aleene Powers.
Surviving: a son, Ralph North, St. Joseph; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Clarence L. Whitmore

MARTINSVILLE, Mo. -- Clarence L. "Sonny" Whitmore, 65, Martinsville, died Friday, Jan. 8, 1999, at a health-care center in Kansas City.
Mr. Whitmore retired in 1990 from the Missouri Gas Energy Service Co. in Lee's Summit, Mo., after 30 years of employment. He also served in the Army during the Korean War.
Born May 9, 1933, in Kansas City, he was a graduate of East High School, Kansas City.
Mr. Whitmore was a member of the Rod Tiques Car Club, Kansas City, and the First Christian Church, Bethany, Mo.
On March 1, 1956, he married Patricia Acheson. She survives of the home.
Mr. Whitmore was preceded in death by his father, Clarence L.

Anna B. Bonderer

CHILLICOTHE, Mo. -- Anna Bess (Stimmler) Bonderer, 81, Chillicothe, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999, at a hospital in Carrollton, Mo.
Born Feb. 3, 1907, in Clear Lake, Minn., she was a graduate of Clear Lake High School. After attending St. Cloud (Minn.) University, she taught school in Minnesota for three years.
Mrs. Bonderer was a member of the St. Columban's Catholic Church, Chillicothe, and the Altar Society of the church. She also was past president of the American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the Chillicothe Duplicate Bridge Club.
On May 7, 1929, she married Drury J. Bonderer in Clear Lake. He died in 1961.
Mrs. Bonderer also was preceded in death by two sons, Thomas E. and Col. Lawrence F.; her parents, George and Julia Stimmler; five brothers, Gilbert, George, Clarence, Lloyd and John Stimmler; and a sister, Frona Eiffert.
Surviving: two sons, James W., St. Louis, and Drury J. Jr., Gallatin, Mo.; three daughters, Betty Radcliff, Chillicothe, Julia Goetting, Carrollton, and Jean McGrath, St. Joseph; three sisters, Arvilla Kiklas, Aurora, Colo., Jewell Koci, Hutchinson, Minn., and Ellen Mack, Huron, S.D.; 25 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and a step-great-grandchild.

Floyd F. Castillo Jr.

ELMO, Mo. -- Floyd F. Castillo Jr., 73, Elmo, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999, at a St. Joseph health-care center.
Born July 23, 1925, in Elmo, Mr. Castillo lived his entire life there, and was a graduate of Elmo High School. He was a farmer, stockman and member of the Elmo Lion's Club.
On July 10, 1949, he married Izetta A. Koehler in Clarinda, Iowa. She survives of the home.
Mr. Castillo was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Sr. and Cleda; and a sister, Kathryn.

Roger R. Drake

Roger R. Drake, 59, St. Joseph, died Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Mr. Drake was a driver for Economy Express. He also was employed by Pepsico Inc., from which he retired after 26 years of service.
Born Sept. 15, 1939, he was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph. He was a master sergeant in the Missouri Air National Guard, and served with them during the Vietnam War.
Mr. Drake was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and A.L.; and two sisters, Virginia Drake and Ruth Reckers.
Surviving: his wife, Katherine J. Drake, of the home; a son, Robert L., Highland, Kan.; two daughters, Janice K. Drake and Mary H. Robertson, both of St. Joseph; two brothers, Melvin, St. Joseph, and Robert L., Metarie, La.; three sisters, Jean Teaford, Trimble, Mo., Katherine Reynolds, St. Joseph, and Frances Reisinger, Poplar Bluff, Mo.; and seven grandchildren.

William J. Feurt

JAMESON, Mo. -- William J. Feurt, 62, Jameson, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999, at his home.
Born Aug. 19, 1936, in Jameson, he was a graduate of Jameson High School. He also attended Northwest Missouri State College-Maryville.
Mr. Feurt, a farmer, was a member of the Jameson Baptist Church. He served with the Army and Army Reserves.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William H. and Nancy C.

Bernice E. Morrow

DENVER -- Bernice E. (Graham) Alkire Berg Morrow, 88, Denver, formerly of Oregon, Mo., died Friday, Jan. 8, 1999, at a Denver health-care center.
Mrs. Morrow, a homemaker, was a member of the Southern Baptist faith.
Born June 11, 1910, in Bigelow, Mo., she lived in Oregon, then Salina, Kan., before moving to Kansas City in the 1960s. She lived in the Colorado care center since 1998.
In 1929, she married William J. Alkire. He died in 1956. She married Bob Berg in 1961, he died in 1965. She married her third husband, Willie Morrow, in 1969. He survives of the home in Kansas City.
Mrs. Morrow also was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and June Graham; three brothers, Paul, Gerald and Ralph Graham; and a sister, Opal Ramsey.

Mary T. Angel

PASADENA, Calif. -- Mary Theresa (Tannheimer) Angel, 76, Pasadena, formerly of St. Joseph, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 1999, at a Pasadena hospital.
Born July 23, 1922, in St. Joseph, she lived there until moving to California in 1980. She was a member of the Catholic faith.
Mrs. Angel was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Angel; and her parents, Carl and Louise Tannheimer.
Surviving: two brothers, Bernard Tannheimer, Hurst, Texas, and Francis Tannheimer, St. Joseph; and two sisters, Josephine Danaher, Kansas City, and Rita Modlin, St. Joseph.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial: 7:30 a.m. Thursday, St. James Catholic Church, St. Joseph. The body has been cremated. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
Wayne E. Boring
1915-1999
CAMERON, Mo. -- Wayne Eugene Boring, 83, Cameron, died Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, at a Kansas City hospital.
Mr. Boring served as postmaster at Hopkins, Mo., for 26 years, retiring in 1979. He served with the Army during World War II, and received the Purple Heart.
Born Aug. 6, 1915, in MaLoy, Iowa, he lived in Hopkins for 26 years before moving to Cameron two years ago. He was a graduate of Kansas City High School, and received his bachelor's degree in social science from Northwest Missouri State College-Maryville.
Mr. Boring was a member of the Cameron United Methodist Church.
On Aug. 7, 1940, he married Bobbie C. House in Blumfield, Mo. She survives of the home.
Mr. Boring was preceded in death by his father, Victor.
Additional survivors: two sons, Daniel, Falls Church, Va., and Philip, St. Joseph; a daughter, Donna Harrison, Osborn, Mo.; his mother, Ora Logan, Cameron; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Rodney J. Bowman
1934-1999
UNION STAR, Mo. -- Rodney J. Bowman, 65, Union Star, died Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, at his residence.
Mr. Bowman had lived in Kansas City for 20 years, where he worked as a bus driver for Greyhound Bus Co. for 25 years before returning to Union Star in 1989.
He also was a driver for Scherer Trucking Co., in Riverside, Mo. and Dagley Chevrolet, in Kearney, Mo. He also owned Bowman's Garage in Union Star for six years.
Born Jan. 3, 1934, in Andrew County, Mo., he was a graduate of Union Star High School.
Mr. Bowman had served in the Army and was a member of the First Christian Church in Union Star. He also had formerly served as mayor and on the city council in Union Star.
On Oct. 1, 1988, he married Virginia L. Fannin in Independence, Mo. She survives of the home.
Mr. Bowman was preceded in death by his parents, Virgule and Pauline.
