DOOLITTLE, Mo. -- Eldon Orvil Murphy, 78, Doolittle, formerly of King City, Mo., died Wednesday, April 14, 1999, at his residence.
Mr. Murphy was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service and farmed, both in the Doolittle area. He also worked for the McCammon Truck Line in King City.
Born in Gentry County, Mo., on Aug. 9, 1920, he lived in King City before moving to Doolittle.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Rolla, Mo., and a former member of the First Baptist Church in King City, where he served as a deacon.
Mr. Murphy was preceded in death by his parents, Orvil and Ethel.
Surviving: his wife, the former Nora May Leivan, of the home; two sons, Larry, Humble, Texas, and Eldon Jr., Doolittle; a daughter, Roberta Speers, Fayetteville, N.C.; a sister, Wilma Ellis, Whitesville, Mo.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Delores Salmon
1936-1999
BRAYMER, Mo. -- Delores (Baldomegro) Salmon, 63, Braymer, died Thursday, April 15, 1999.
Mrs. Salmon, a homemaker, was born in the Philippines on April 7, 1936, and lived in Bethany, Mo.
On Nov. 17, 1972, she married Urlin Salmon. He survives of the home.
Mrs. Salmon was preceded in death by her parents, Ignacio and Dominga Baldomegro.

Leonard Scroggins
1921-1999
FORBES, Mo. -- Leonard Scroggins, 77, Forbes, died Thursday, April 15, 1999, at his home.
Mr. Scroggins owned and operated the Scroggins' Hardware in Oregon, Mo., for the past 29 years. He also worked as a carpenter and heavy equipment operator.
Born in Forbes on June 5, 1921, he was a lifelong resident of the Forbes area. He attended the Forbes High School and served in the Navy from 1943 to 1945 during World War II.
Mr. Scroggins was a member of the Oregon United Methodist Church and a former member of the Forbes School Board.
On Feb. 14, 1940, he married Berneta C. Barrett. She died in 1995.
Mr. Scroggins was preceded in death by his parents, Jess L. and Sadie M.; six brothers, his twin, Lawrence, Conrad, Jesse, Keith, Gerald and an infant; and a sister, Lila Blakley.
Surviving: five sons, LaVerne and David, both of Forbes, Larry and Francis, both of Oregon, and Vick, Forest City, Mo.; two brothers, Dale, Maryville, Mo., and Ivan, St. Joseph; two sisters, Velma Williams and LaVeda Ball, both of St. Joseph; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Riley C. Smith
1915-1999
MAYSVILLE, Mo. -- Riley Collum Smith, 83, Maysville, formerly of Cameron, Mo., died Wednesday, April 14, 1999, at a Kansas City hospital.
Mr. Smith, a retired carpenter, was born in Kidder, Mo., on April 28, 1915, and lived most of his life in Cameron until moving to a health-care center in Maysville 25 years ago.
During World War II, he served in the Army and received a Purple Heart. Mr. Smith was a member of the United Methodist Church in Cameron and American Legion.
On Oct. 21, 1947, he married Thelma Swope in Cameron. She died in 1970.
Mr. Smith also was preceded in death by his parents, Riley and Carrie.
Surviving: a son, Steve, Osborn, Mo.; two daughters, Nancy Ohl, Kansas City, and Virginia Thomas, Raytown, Mo.; a sister, Marvel Killingsworth, Dodge City, Kan.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Service: 10 a.m. Monday, Poland-Thompson Funeral Home, Cameron. Burial: Cameron Memory Gardens, with military rites by members of the Lincoln-Anderson American Legion Post No. 169, Osborn. Arthur H. Weishaar

NORTONVILLE, Kan. -- Arthur Henry Weishaar, 87, Nortonville, died Thursday, April 15, 1999, at his residence.
Mr. Weishaar was a farmer north of Nortonville, until his retirement in 1990.
Born Oct. 2, 1911, in Nortonville, Mr. Weishaar was a member of St. Joseph's Church, which he helped build. He also was a member of Knights of Columbus and the Holy Name Society.
On Jan. 30, 1940, he married Loretta Noll. She survives of the home.
Mr. Weishaar was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Alberta; his parents, Albert and Frances; a brother, Robert; and two sisters, Velma Noll and Valeria Weishaar.

Blanche M. Moss

MOUND CITY, Mo. - Blanche Minnie (Marrs) Fleener Moss, 91, Mound City, died Saturday, April 10, 1999, at a Mound City health-care center.
Mrs. Moss farmed north of Mound City before moving into Mound City to own and operate Kee Cafe for many years. After selling the cafe, she worked as head cook for the Mound City School for nine years before retiring.
Born April 21, 1907, in Mercer County, Mo., she attended public school in Colorado.
Mrs. Moss was a member of First Christian Church, Mound City; Ladies Aid; and Busy Bees.
In October, 1929, she married Ralph Fleener. He died in 1960. Then in March, 1966, she married Vaughn Moss in Mound City. He died in 1972.
Mrs. Moss also was preceded in death by her parents, Matt and Edith Marrs; three sisters, Theta Schaeffer, Emma Titus and Hazel Marrs; and three brothers, Lawrence, William and Clarence Marrs.
Surviving: a stepdaughter, Kim Kling, Mound City; a stepson, V.I. Moss, Germany; three brothers, Darrell Marrs, Falls City, Neb., Carl Marrs, Forsythe, Mo., and Frank Marrs, Mesa, Ariz.; and four stepgrandchildren.

Russell Officer

HIAWATHA, Kan. - Russell Officer, 82, Hiawatha, formerly of Robinson, Kan., died Saturday, April 10, 1999, at a Hiawatha health-care center.
Mr. Officer provided custom farm services to area farmers and was involved in real estate and various investment services. He also was a World War II veteran.
Born July 21, 1916, in Mound City, Mo., he was a graduate of Robinson High School.
Mr. Officer was a member of the United Methodist Church and American Legion, Robinson. He also was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, St. Joseph, and Ponies of America Club.
On Feb. 17, 1939, he married O. Elizabeth Myers. She died in 1990.
Mr. Officer also was preceded in death by his parents, Charles T. and Leta; and a sister, Ruth Williams.
Surviving: a daughter, Jeaneane Black, Hiawatha; a brother, Lawrence, Coos Bay, Oregon; a sister, Edith Thomas, College Park, Ga., and a grandchild.

Donald R. VanLeuven

TARKIO, Mo. - Donald Robert VanLeuven, 96, Tarkio, died Saturday, April 10, 1999, at a Fairfax, Mo., hospital.
Mr. VanLeuven, a farmer, also was employed for many years as a clerk for farm sales in the area.
Born April 27, 1902, in Tarkio, he was a graduate of Tarkio High School.
Mr. VanLeuven was a member of the Tarkio Presbyterian Church; Farm Bureau; and was a former board member of Farmers Colfax Insurance Co.
On May 20, 1925, he married Gussie L. Horton. After their marriage, they lived near Tarkio, where they farmed, until 1966, when they moved into Tarkio. His wife, Gussie, died in 1993.
Mr. VanLeuven also was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Lydia; a sister, Alma Moore; a grandchild; and a great-grandchild.
Surviving: two sons, Robert R., Tarkio, and Dale A., Kimberling City, Mo.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Lorinda H. Zabel

ATCHISON, Kan. - Lorinda H. (Rabe) Zabel, 76, Atchison, died Saturday, April 10, 1999, at an Atchison hospital.
Mrs. Zabel was employed by the Western Union Telegraph Co. during World War II. She also was employed by the Atchison Hospital, Electra Manufacturing, Horton Garment Co. for 19 years; and Sanders Manufacturing Co., all of Atchison.
Born Feb. 6, 1923, in Wisener, Neb., she was a graduate of Wisener High School.
Mrs. Zabel was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Atchison.
On June 30, 1946, she married Arthur Zabel in Freemont, Neb. He survives of the home.
Mrs. Zabel was preceded in death by her parents, William G. and Lydia Rabe; three brothers; and a sister.

ROCK PORT, Mo. -- Hazel Lucille (Price) Perry, 89, Rock Port, died Monday, April 12, 1999, at the Fairfax, Mo., hospital.
Mrs. Perry worked in Sioux Falls, S.D. She and her husband, Leroy, lived and farmed in the Rock Port area.
Born in Payne, Okla., on Jan. 22, 1910, she moved to the Rock Port area in 1929 and into Rock Port in 1981.
She attended school in Highmore and Brookings, S.D. Mrs. Perry was a member of the Rock Port United Methodist Church.
On Nov. 18, 1929, she married Leroy P. Perry in Laverne, Minn. He died in 1983.
Mrs. Perry also was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Bertha Price; a brother, Everett Price; a sister, Leona Canode; a grandchild; and a great-grandchild.
Surviving: three sons, Harold T., Rock Port, Dwight E., Watson, Mo., and Dale L., Auburn, Neb.; two daughters, Beverly J. Wacker, Salem, Ill., and Phyllis I. Adams, Peru, Neb.; two brothers, Paul and Francis Morgan, both of San Antonio; three sisters, Louise Farrell, Highmore, Lois Rodman, Ree Heights, S.D., and Lorene Miller, Seattle; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Boyd E. Robinson

MOUNT VERNON, Mo. -- Boyd E. "Gene" Robinson, 53, Mount Vernon, formerly of St. Joseph, died Monday, April 12, 1999, at his residence.
Mr. Robinson retired as a transportation manager for the Nestle Co.
Born in Winfield, Kan., on Aug. 27, 1945, he attended school in Mount Vernon. He moved to St. Joseph in 1960 and returned to Mount Vernon in 1995.
He was a member of the Freistatt, Mo., Lions Club and Kingsway Christian Church in Mount Vernon.
On Oct. 9, 1965, he married Paula Stephens in Cape Fair, Mo. She survives of the home.
Mr. Robinson was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred B. and Lela M.

Earl D. Rogers Jr.

Earl D. Rogers Jr., 69, St. Joseph, died Monday, April 12, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital.
For 49 years, Mr. Rogers was an adjuster and then knife sharpner at Mead Products until retiring in 1996. He served in the Army during the Korean War.
Born in White City, Kan., on May 28, 1929, he spent most of his life in St. Joseph. He graduated from the Hamilton, Mo., high school.
Mr. Rogers was a member of the 25- and 40-Year Clubs at Mead Products.
On Nov. 3, 1950, he married Peggy Hopper in St. Joseph. She survives of the home.
Mr. Rogers was preceded in death by his parents, Earl D. Sr. and Stella; and a brother and two sisters.
Additional survivors: a son, Gary of the home; a daughter, Diane Hutton, Gower, Mo.; a brother; a sister; and two grandchildren.
