Anna Bernice Burkhart, age 81, of Carrollton, Missouri passed away Thursday, May 8, 2003 at Carroll House, Carrollton, Missouri.
She was born January 4, 1922 in Vanduser, Missouri the daughter of John and Grace McClanahan Phegley. She attended schools in Flat River, Missouri and Iron Mountain, Missouri.
On May 9, 1958 she married Joe Verise Burkhart in Carrollton, Missouri. He preceded her in death. She had been employed at Evert's Restaurant; part time at Mattingly Brothers and as a line worker with Banquet Foods in Carrollton, Missouri. She attended the Assembly of God Church, Carrollton, Missouri.
Bernice is survived by two sons, Eugene Fortner, Park Hills, Missouri, Donald Fortner, Carrollton, Missouri; one daughter, Joan Davis, Lake Nehai, Missouri; two sisters, Melbourne Skaggs, Bismark, Missouri, Ermadine Swinford, Ironton, Missouri; one brother, William Phegley, Iron Mountain, Missouri; thirteen grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two children, Ronald Burkhart and Lee Fortner; one grandson, Daniel Keith Davis; five brothers, Riley, Leonard, Allen, Charles and Barney Phegley.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, May 10, 2003 at Trotter Cemetery, Carrollton, Missouri with Reverend Brett Daily officiating.
Visitation will be from 6-7:30 p.m., Friday, May 9, 2003 at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri.

John David Aldstadt, age 69, of Carrollton, Missouri, passed away Monday, May 12, 2003 at Carroll County Memorial Hospital, Carrollton,Missouri.
He was born February 7, 1934 in Windber, Pennsylvania, the son of Joseph H. and Elizabeth D. Davies Aldstadt. He graduated from Windber High School; attended Penn State and earned his Masters Degree from Indiana State University.
On April 2, 1965 he married Gloria (Lorrie) Merwar in Monrovia, California. She survives at the home.
David taught music for Arcadia Unified School District, which encompassed Band, Orchestra and Choral classes. Over his thirty year tenure, the band had been awarded first in the State of California; played with Doc Severensen at the Tournament of Roses; and with Dion Warwick at a Los Angeles Rams football game. David was a member of the First Christian Church, Carrollton, Missouri, where he was the pianist; Carrollton Kiwanis Club, where he was a past president from 1998-1999;
and a member of the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association. He had received the Honorary Service Award Certificate from the California Congress of Parents and Teachers, Inc. on January 24, 1972 recognizing his outstanding service to children and youth.
David is also survived by one son, Eric John Aldstadt and wife, Vera, Novi, Michigan; one brother, J. Howard Aldstadt, Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; two sisters, Sally Dutzman and husband, Dennis, Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, Linda Fetsko and usband, Joseph, Eau Gallie, Florida; one sister-in-law, Marian Aldstadt, Ocala, Florida; his mother-in-law, Dorothy Merwar, Carrollton, Missouri; three grandchildren, Eric John Aldstadt, II; David F. Aldstadt and Vanessa V. Aldstadt.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Dr. Robert H. Aldstadt. Memorial services will be held Friday, May 16, 2003 at 11:00 a.m., First Christian Church, Carrollton, Missouri with Reverend Joe Barone officiating. The family suggests contributions be made to the families choice or the Carrollton Band Boosters in memory of Mr. Aldstadt. They may be left at or mailed to Gibson Funeral Home, 201 S. Ryland Stewart Trent, age 90, of Waverly, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2003 at Fitzgibbon Hospital, Marshall, Missouri.
He was born December 20, 1912 in Waverly, Missouri the son of Stewart and Louise Wessel Trent. He was born in the farm home where he lived his entire life. He attended Hazel Hill Grade School; Dover Missouri High School and graduated from Waverly High School.
On November 13, 1937 he married Lucile Neer in Waverly, Missouri.
Ryland farmed more than sixty years in the Waverly area. He and his wife, Lucile, were active members of the Waverly Methodist Church and the Hazel Hill community. He was the district Road Commissioner for over twenty years.
Ryland is survived by his wife, Lucile; one daughter, Patricia Appleberry and husband, James B., Louisville, Kentucky; one son, William (Bill) Trent and wife, Alice, Marshall, Missouri; one sister, Virginia Gordon, Lexington, Missouri; five grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Dimple Lewis.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 17, 2003 at the Waverly Methodist Church, Waverly, Missouri with Reverend Dr. George B. Gordon, Pastoral Care, Country Club Christian Church, Kansas City, Missouri and Reverend Bob Payne, Waverly Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Dover Cemetery, Dover, Missouri.
Visitation will be Friday, May 16, 2003 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Gibson Funeral Home, Waverly, Missouri.

Donald Lavern Moore, age 73, of Bogard, Missouri, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2003 at the University Hospital, Columbia, Missouri.
Don was born February 28, 1930 in Dawn, Missouri the son of James Edward and Aurelia Stipes Moore. He attended Green Wood Grade School; and Bogard Grade and High School. Following graduation he joined the United States Army. Don was employed by Green Quarries as a Plant Foreman for several years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Bogard, Missouri and the Pence-Lovell-England Post #1773 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Carrollton, Missouri.
Survivors include one brother, Jerry Moore, Phoenix, Arizona; one sister, Doris Jean Shafer, Hastings, Nebraska; several nieces and nephews; and several great nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, James (Gib) Moore and Clifton Moore; and one niece, Joyce Heath.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 21, 2003 at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri with Reverend Bert Hughes officiating. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m., Tuesday evening at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri. Burial will be in Carroll Memory Gardens, Carrollton, Missouri.
The family suggests contributions be made to the Boy Scouts of America in memory of Mr. Moore. They may be left at or mailed to Gibson Funeral Home, 201 S Main, Carrollton MO 64633.

Mary Frances Smith, age 95, of Carrollton, Missouri passed away Thursday, May 15, 2003 at St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri.
She was born February 17, 1908 in Carroll County, Missouri the daughter of William Henry and Margaret Elizabeth Ritchhart Mitchell. She attended a country school near the red barn in the bottoms south of Carrollton and Root School.
On February 25, 1933 she married Elmer Smith in Carrollton, Missouri. He preceded her in death on November 21, 1971. She and her husband owned and operated Smith Shoe Repair in Clarinda, Iowa. She was a member of the Carrollton Church of Christ, Carrollton, Missouri.
Mary Frances is survived by one son, Clarence R. Smith and wife, Rebecca, Plattsburg, Missouri; one daughter, Vera Joan Hill and husband, Bernard, Xenia, Ohio; ten grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Louis Edgar Smith, on June 6, 1971; her parents; two brothers, Jerome Mitchell and Morgan Mitchell; four sisters, Virginia Judd, Maggie Simms, Rozzetta Smith and Marie Germann; and several brothers and sisters in infancy.
Funeral services will be Monday, May 19, 2003 at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri with Evangelist Louis Garbi officiating. Burial will be in Clarinda Cemetery, Clarinda, Iowa.

Joe A. Dodgen, age 66, of Carrollton, Missouri passed away Sunday, May 18, 2003 at his home in Carrollton.
Joe was born April 13, 1937 in Lonoke, Arkansas, the son of Wesley and Beatrice Dodgen. On September 1, 1973, he married Esther Carls of Beardstown, Illinois.
Joe graduated from Charleston High School, Charleston, Missouri, and the University of Missouri. He spent six years in the National Guard Reserves. He taught vocational agriculture from 1967-1997 at the Carrollton Area Vocational Technical School where he was the FFA and Young Farmer Advisor. He established the first Young Farmer Chapter in the State of Missouri in 1967. His life interests were farming, raising cattle, hunting and fishing. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Carrollton, Missouri where he loved working with the children in the Sunday School nursery.
He is survived by his wife Esther; five sisters, Louise (Harold) Weakley, Leland, Illinois, Hazel Brumley, East Prairie, Missouri, Jean (Jack) Ashley, Madison, Tennessee, Vivian (Bill) Harris, Jackson, Missouri, and Carolyn Young, Painesville, Ohio; one brother, John W. (Sandra) Dodgen, East Prairie, Missouri; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 21, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, Carrollton, Missouri with Pastor Jeff Maxwell officiating. Burial will be in Oddfellows' Cemetery, Charleston, Missouri on Thursday, May 22, 2003 at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20, 2003 at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri.
The family suggests contributions be made to the Joe A. and Esther A. Dodgen Scholarship Fund of Memorial Baptist Church of Columbia, Missouri or the First Baptist Church of Carrollton. They may be left at or mailed to Gibson Funeral Home, 201 S Main, Carrollton MO 64633.

Bruce Allen Wright, age 36, of Carrollton, Missouri passed away Sunday, May 25, 2003 at his home.
Bruce was born June 23, 1966 in Moberly, Missouri the son of Louis and June Boothe Wright. He attended Carrollton Schools.
On February 14, 1993 he married Pam Wiley in Carrollton, Missouri. She survives at the home.
He was a life time resident of Carrollton and Norborne, Missouri and was employed at Dexter Axel. He was a member of the Norborne Fire Department and attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness.
In addition to his wife, Pam, Bruce is survived by five children; Nick, Dustin, Natasha, Derik and Shelby, of the home; three brothers, Phil Wright and wife, Marilyn, Norborne, Missouri, Dennis Wright, Norborne, Missouri, Scott Wright and Angie King, Carrollton, Missouri; five sisters; Carolyn Zamarripa and husband, Phil, Pam Meyer and Gregg Reed, Sheri Standley, Lori Laing and husband, Garry, and Robin Sportsman, all of Carrollton, Missouri; several Aunts, Uncles, Nieces and Nephews.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Louis and Ruth Wright, Kansas City, Missouri; maternal grandparents, Ted and Betty Boothe, Wakenda, Missouri; and an infant brother, Randy Wright.
Graveside services were at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 28, 2003 at Oak Hill Cemetery, Carrollton, Missouri with Tom Wyatt officiating.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Bruce Allen Wright Family Fund, in care of First National Bank, 1 S. Main, Carrollton, Missouri. Arrangements are under the direction of Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton MO.

Dorothy Jean Massey, age 41, of Waverly, Missouri, passed away Monday, May 26, 2003 at her home.
Dorothy was born December 15, 1961 in Sweet Springs, Missouri the daughter of Gary and Carolyn Hall Dieckhoff. She attended schools in Sweet Springs, Missouri and graduated from Concordia High School, Concordia, Missouri.
On October 21, 1983 she married Orval W. Massey, Jr. in Marshall, Missouri. He survives at the home.
She had lived in Sweet Springs, Missouri until moving to Waverly, Missouri in 2000. She was employed at Alwells, Wilson Foods, Rival Manufacturing and Hardee's. She had most recently been employed as a cook at Casey's in Waverly. She was a member of the Waverly Christian Church. Dorothy loved to play Bingo and to Bowl.
In addition to her husband Orval, she is survived three daughters, Crystal Lynn Dieckhoff, Concordia, Missouri, Mary Kathern Massey, Carrollton, Missouri, Stephanie Ann Massey, of the home; her parents, Gary and Carolyn Dieckhoff, Sweet Springs, Missouri; one brother, G. Wesley Dieckhoff, Moberly, Missouri; four sisters, Julia Pennington, Marshall, Missouri, Janet Leonard, Carrollton, Missouri, April Guffin and Dawn Alspaw, both of Sweet Springs, Missouri; and two grandchildren, Hope Dawn Massey and Kaitlyn Leann Stokes, both of Carrollton, Missouri.
Graveside services were 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 29, 2003 at Payne Cemetery, Concordia, Missouri with Reverend Mike Koch and Reverend Russell Crawford officiating.
The family suggests contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or Waverly Christian Church in memory of Dorothy. They may be left at or mailed to Gibson Funeral Home, 201 S Main, Carrollton MO 64633.

Jack L. Thompson, age 65, of Norborne, Missouri passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2003 at Carroll County Memorial Hospital, Carrollton, Missouri.
He was born January 4, 1938 in Norborne, Missouri the son of Ivory and Louisa Alexander Thompson. He attended Norborne Grade School and graduated from Norborne High School. He was in the United States Air Force.
On November 23, 1967 he married Doroth Holly in Norborne, Missouri. She survives at the home.
Jack had been a Foreman for the Norfolk and Southern Railroad and was a member of St. Luke's A.M.E. Church in Norborne, Missouri. He loved to bowl.
Jack is also survived by three children; Anthony Wayne Thompson, Norborne, Missouri, Kristen Thompson, Norborne, Missouri, Michele Thompson, Higginsville, Missouri; his mother, Louisa; two brothers, Wyvonne Mays, Norborne, Missouri, Ivan Thompson, Carrollton, Missouri; and one sister, Dorothy Craig, Detroit, Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m., Friday, May 30, 2003 at St. Luke's A.M.E. Church, Norborne, Missouri with Reverend Brenda Smith officiating. Burial will be in Stemple Cemetery, Norborne, Missouri.
Visitation will be from 10:30-11:15 at the church.

Neta H. Shirley, age 88, of Carrollton, Missouri passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2003 at Liberty Hospital, Liberty, Missouri.
She was born March 22, 1915 in Stet, Missouri the daughter of William Leonard and Hattie Rebecca Shafar Hooper. She attended Burr Oak School and graduated from Stet High School.
On December 27, 1936 she married John William Shirley, Sr. in Liberty, Missouri. He preceded her in death on January 22, 1985. She was a very loving wife and mother. She was a member of Union Baptist Church since childhood, joining in 1928 and had been a Sunday School teacher. She was a member of the Mandeville Merry Makers.
Neta is survived by one son, John William Shirley, Jr. and wife, Frances, Carrollton, Missouri; three nephews, Jeff Flora, L. D. Oster and Eugene Shirley.
She was also preceded in death by four sisters; Lorene Flora, Lucille Daugherty, Eldora Oster and her twin, Neva Black.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 31, 2003 at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri with Reverend Randy Boatwright, Reverend Larry Reeter and Reverend Lee Borders officiating. Burial will be in Fairhaven Cemetery, Norborne, Missouri.
Visitation will be Friday, May 30, 2003 at Gibson Funeral Home from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.
The family suggests contributions be made to Union Baptist Church in memory of Mrs. Shirley. They may be left at or mailed to Gibson Funeral Home, 201 S Main, Carrollton MO 64633.
