NEWMAN OBITUARY
Cal Newman, age 98, of Carrollton, Missouri, died June 15, 1999, at the Carroll County Memorial Hospital in Carrollton.
He was born August 10, 1900, the son of Robert L. and Martha Tomlin Newman in Carroll County, Missouri.
He attended Reynolds Grade School and graduated from Carrollton High School in 1921. He served in the US Army during World War II.
He was a member of the Carrollton VFW Post #1773.
Survivors include a brother, Robert Newman, and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted by Reverend Bert Hughes at 1:30 P.M., Thursday, at the Powell Cemetery, Carrollton.
There will be no set visitation. The body will lie in state Wednesday afternoon and before services time on Thursday at the Gibson Funeral Home in Carrollton.
The family suggests contributions to the Powell Cemetery in memory of Mr. Newman. They may be left at or mailed to the Gibson Funeral Home in Carrollton.

DORNER OBITUARY
A former Carrollton, Missouri resident, Alvin Gerald (Jerry) Dorner, age 72, died June 11, 1999, at the Simi Valley Hospital in Simi Valley, California.
He was born October 21, 1926, in Carroll County, Missouri, the son of George Alvin and Evaleen Evans Dorner. He graduated from Carrollton High School and received his degree from the University of Missouri in Columbia, where he also did graduate work. He belonged to Phi Beta Pi while there. He also did graduate work in Ann Arbor, Michigan and at USC.
He worked for Upjohn Pharmaceutical Company for 45 years where he had worked in several different departments, including research, and retired as District Manager.
On June 15, 1949, he was married to Diana Jean Bleckner. She preceded him in death. He then married Kay A. Carpenter on July 9, 1983. She survives at the home.
He was a member of the Bel Air Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include a son, Gerald Gordon (Gary) Dorner, Woodland Hills, California; his mother, Evaleen Dorner, Carrollton; a granddaughter, Katherine Diana; and a grandson, Wes.
Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Thursday, June 17, at the Gibson Funeral Home in Carrollton, conducted by the Reverend Jim West. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Carrollton.
Visitation will be from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, at Gibson Funeral Home.
The family suggests contributions to the Bel Air Presbyterian Church or the Carrollton United Methodist Church in memory of Mr. Dorner.

COSTNER OBITUARY
Clarence Costner, age 87, of Norborne, Missouri, died June 13, 1999, at his home.
He was born November 3, 1911, near Norborne in Carroll County, Missouri, the son of Philip and Mary Melissa Chrisman Costner. He attended the Costner School and was a lifelong farmer.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Norborne, where he had served as a deacon.
On August 21, 1938, he was married to Helen Lorene Koontz. She survives at the home.
Other survivors include five daughters, Marlyn Martin and Dianne Raw, both of Carrollton; Judy Raw and Rhonda McNelly, both of Norborne, and Betty Newham, Mesa, Arizona; a sister, Mabel Braxdale, Carrollton; fourteen grandchildren; and thirteen grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Floyd and Bernice; and a sister, Viola Rodenberg.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M., Saturday, June 19, at the First Baptist Church in Norborne. Burial will be in Fairhaven Cemetery in Norborne.
Visitation will be from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M., Friday, at the Gibson Funeral Home in Norborne.
The family suggests contributions to the Norborne First Baptist Church in memory of Mr. Costner.

BECK OBITUARY
A former Carrollton resident, Mildred Kinder Beck, age 86, died June 5, 1999, at the Johnson City Medical Center in Johnson City, Tennessee.
She was the daughter of Herman and Louise Kracke Kinder. She was married to Avery A. Beck. He preceded her in death on February 23, 1988.
She was a member of the Carrollton United Methodist Church and also a member and past president of the Liberty Extension Club. After moving to Johnson City ten years ago, she attended Cherokee United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Fellowship Class and Prime Timers.
Survivors include one daughter, Martha Lea Reese and her husband, Jay; two grandchildren, Jennifer Lea Reese and Jay Garst Reese, all of Johnson City; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Edward, Elmer and Eldon.
Graveside services were conducted by Reverend Jim West at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, at Carroll Memory Gardens in Carrollton.
The family suggests contributions to the Cherokee Methodist Church or the Carrollton Methodist Church in memory of Mrs. Beck. They may be left at or mailed to the Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton.

CAREW OBITUARY
Anna A. Carew, age 101, of Carrollton, Missouri, died June 3, 1999, at the Carrollton Nursing Center.
She was born August 3, 1897, in the Sugartree area, southeast of Norborne, the daughter of Anthony and Theresa Schmucki Schreiner. She attended Sugartree Community School.
She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Carrollton, the Altar Society and the Legion of Mary.
On April 28, 1926, she was married to Patrick Carew in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norborne. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, James Carew, Carrollton, and William Carew, Houston, Texas; and two grandchildren, Kerry and Kevin..
She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Monday, June 7, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Carrollton, conducted by Reverend Ken Criqui. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Carrollton.
Visitation will be from 7:00 to 7:45 P.M., on Sunday, at the Gibson Funeral Home in Carrollton. The rosary will begin at 7:45 P.M.
The family suggests contributions to the St. Mary's Catholic Church or the Carrollton Nursing Center. They may be left at or mailed to the Gibson Funeral Home in Carrollton.

LEVAN OBITUARY
Rena Mae Levan, age 90, of Bogard, Missouri, died July 31, 1999, at the North Kansas City Hospital in North Kansas City, Missouri.
She was born May 9, 1909, in Corning, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and Tura Bennett Williams. She attended Van Horn Grade School.
She was a member of the Pleasant Hill Christian Church and the Van Horn Extension Club.
On October 11, 1933, she was married to Robert Kenneth Levan in Carrollton, Missouri, by Reverend G. L. Bush. He preceded her in death on April 9, 1992.
Survivors include one son, Donald Levan, Weatherby Lake, Missouri; one sister, Leona O'Neal, Overland Park, Kansas; and two granddaughters, Brenda and Jennifer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and two sisters.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A..M., Tuesday, August 3, 1999, at the Gibson Funeral Home in Carrollton, conducted by Reverend Lanny Lybarger. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Carrollton.
The family suggests contributions to the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in memory of Mrs. Levan.

WARD OBITUARY
Miss Mary Vivian Ward of Bogard, Missouri, passed away July 29, 1999 at the Carroll County Memorial Hospital in Carrollton.
She was born near Bogard, on February 14, 1906, the daughter of William Winsor and Effie Lee Bingham Ward. Mary spent her entire life in the Bogard community and was a graduate of Bogard High School in 1925.
She was a member of the Bogard Methodist Church, and the Royal Neighbors of America where she was the Recorder of the Bogard Camp for a number of years.
She wrote the Bogard news for the Daily Democrat starting in 1951.
Survivors include a niece, Charlene Wiles, Overland Park, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Opal Naomi Wiles.
Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Monday, August 2, 1999, at the Gibson Funeral Home in Carrollton. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 10:30 A.M., Monday, at the funeral home.
The family will receive friends at her home in Bogard from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M., on Sunday.
The family suggests contributions to the Bogard Methodist Church in memory of Miss Ward. They may be left at or mailed to the Gibson Funeral Home in Carrollton.

PETTY OBITUARY
Billie Mae Petty, age 72, of Waverly, Missouri, died July 28, 1999, at her home.
She was born May 25, 1927, in Carrollton, Missouri, the daughter of William Ernest and Maggie May Mitchell Simms. She attended school in Carrollton and worked for Banquet Foods for 20 years before retiring.
She was a member of the Methodist Church in Waverly.
On June 8, 1946, she was married to William Henry Petty in Kansas City, Missouri. He preceded her in death on March 12, 1998.
Survivors include a brother, David Simms, Carrollton, and a sister, Frances Adaline Weaver, Kansas City, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Bernice Simms, Martha Lorene Baker, Dorothy Proffitt, and Evelyn Weaver; and two brothers, Albert Lee Simms and Bobby James Simms.
Graveside services were at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, July 31, 1999, at the Waverly Cemetery, Waverly, Missouri.
Memorials contributions may be made to the Waverly Methodist Church in memory of Mrs. Petty. They may be left at or mailed to the Gibson Funeral Home in Carrollton.

LINHARDT OBITUARY
Harold Otto Linhardt, age 78, of Concordia, Missouri, died July 22, 1999, at the Harry S. Truman
Veteran's Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.
He was born February 16, 1921, in Freedom, Missouri, the son of Fred John and Lydia S. Uthlaut Linhardt. He attended school in Chamois, Missouri, Swenson's Automotive School and received on-the-farm training at Lexington, Missouri.
He worked for 13 years at Meyer Motors in Concordia, and later owned and operated Harold's Body Shop for 25 years before retiring in 1990.
He served in the US Army during World War II, and was a life member of the VFW in Concordia. He was a member of the Concordia Baptist Church.
On April 5, 1947, he was married to Florence Elizabeth Mauldin in Kansas City, Missouri. She survives at the home.
Other survivors include a daughter, Cheryl Kurtz, Independence, Missouri; a brother, Frank Linhardt, Kansas City, Missouri; a sister, Marjory Ashley, Raytown, Missouri; and two grandchildren, Melissa J. Kurtz and Justin A. Kurtz.
He was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Paul, a brother, Edward B. Linhardt, and a sister, Marie Bartlett.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M., Saturday, July 24, 1999, at the Gibson Funeral Home in Wavelry, Missouri. Burial will be in Waverly Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M., before service time at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials to the Hunnington's Society in memory of Mr. Linhardt.

CONAWAY OBITUARY
Evelyn Conaway, age 80, of Carrollton, Missouri, died July 7, 1999, at the Carroll County Memorial Hospital in Carrollton.
She was born September 6, 1918, in Lexington, Missouri, the daughter of Felix and Nellie Free Bardone. She attended schools in Lexington.
She was a member of the Vesta Chapter of the OES in Carrollton and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lexington VFW.
On June 13, 1939, she was married to William Stanley Conaway. He preceded her in death on October 18, 1968.
Survivors include two daughters, Loretta Bailey, Chesterfield, Missouri, and Sandra Sue Vivion, Mexico, Missouri; a half-sister, Amelia Goettling, Lexington; five grandchildren and three great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Stana Cromley and one brother.
Graveside services were 3:00 P.M., Saturday, July 10, 1999, at the Machpelah Cemetery, Lexington.
The family suggests contributions to the American Lung Association in memory of Mrs. Conaway. They may be left at or mailed to the Gibson Funeral Home, 201 South Main, Carrollton, MO 64633.
