MURREL FORTNEY PANKEY HEADLEE
Murrel Fortney Pankey Headlee, 89, El Dorado Springs, was born on June 12, 1913, in Cedar County near Filley. She was the fourth child and oldest daughter of Henry and Bessie Messick Fortney. Murrel passed away on Sunday afternoon, April 13, 2003, at Community Springs Care Center.
She was united in marriage to Robert Pankey in 1936. To this union three children were born - Jack, Rudy and Joy Ann. Murrel held various jobs outside the home but her main job was homemaker and loving mother.
In 1982, Murrel was united in marriage to Charles Headlee. They spent many happy times traveling, camping and fishing before her health began to fail. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all her family.
Murrel is survived by her husband, Charles, of the home; her daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Walter Scott - Appleton City; step-daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and John Rosbrugh - St. Louis; her grandchildren - Mike and Jeanie Helm, Lori and Tim Thorne, Ken and Lori Helm, Randy and Shelly Helm, Jodie and Mark Stacy and Robin and Jon Mooney - all of El Dorado Springs; Troy Pankey - Lamar, Kelly and Gary Lowe, Jennifer and Joe Samborski - Illinois; step-grandchildren - Wendel and Tracy Rosbrugh - Hannibal, John and Linda Rosbrugh Jr. - Maryland, Teresa and Charles Kieln III, and Angela and Kent Copeland - St. Louis, Jess and Lisa Wood - Texas, Brad and Janet Scott - Appleton City, Joe and Lori Stone - Harrisonville and Chris and Jennifer Shaw - Smithville; three sisters - Helen Bishop and Fern and Eli Choate - El Dorado Springs, and Betty and Harold Kelly - Wichita, KS; 21 great-grandchildren; 26 step-great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; two daughters-in-law, Leila Pankey - Illinois and Jerry Pankey - El Dorado Springs; and several nieces and nephews.
Murrel was preceded in death by her parents; her two sons, Jack and Rudy Pankey; three brothers - Glen, Ray and Carl Fortney; one sister, Erma Fortney Garrett; and two granddaughters, Jacqueline Pankey and Kim Pankey.
Services began at 11 a.m. Wednesday morning, April 16, with Rev. Raymond Yarnell officiating. Musical selections were provided by Barbara and Lucinda Fortney. Interment was in the Clintonville Cemetery under direction of the Hackleman and Sons Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Mike Helm, Ken Helm, Ken Helm, Randy Helm, Mark Stacy, Wendel Rosbrugh and John Rosbrugh Jr. Honorary Pallbearers were Brad Scott and Jon Mooney.

ALBERT GAINES “JUNIOR” PARRISH JR.
Albert Gaines “Junior” Parrish Jr., 67, was born on Dec. 13, 1935, to Grace and Albert Gaines Parrish Sr. near Montevallo. He passed away on April 12, 2003, in Kansas City.
Junior married Madelene Marshall on Oct. 16, 1960, near Virgil City at the home of Karl England. To this union two children, Kimberly Parrish Calvin and Kevin Parrish, were born.
Junior served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany for two years. He was a board member of Heritage Bank for many years and had served on the Vernon County Mutual Insurance Board and the ASCS.
Junior farmed near Montevallo all of his life and ran a feed store along with his son.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Albert and Grace.
Survivors include his wife, Madelene, of the home; his son, Kevin, El Dorado Springs, and his daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Gray Calvin - El Dorado Springs. Junior also left behind two granddaughters, Larin Calvin and Gracie Parrish - both of El Dorado Springs; his brother, Meredith Parrish - El Dorado Springs; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews; his uncle, Meredith Hall - Kansas City; and his aunt, Gladys Hall - Iowa.
Services were held on Tuesday afternoon, April 15, at the Hackleman Chapel with Junior's nephew, Pastor John Koch, and Junior's minister, Pastor Chris Kenney, officiating. Musical selections were provided by Joy Fox. Interment was in the Virgil City Cemetery under the direction of the Hackleman and Sons Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Dick Babcock, Roy Dissler, Bill Thomas, Jim Wilson, Butch Bausch and Victor Ray Bright.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Montevallo Baptist Church.

CHARLES WILLIAM THRESHER
Charles (Chuck) Thresher, 64, was born Sept. 27, 1938, to Charles and Josephine Thresher. He passed away April 3, 2003, in Knoxville, TN. Former owners of the C&H; Motel, Chuck came home to help his mother run the motel upon his father's death. He also owned and operated a Westinghouse dealership in El Dorado Springs at one time.
Chuck was married to Darlene Woolford in May, 1961, who survives of the home in Philadelphia, TN. Also surviving are three children and their spouses - Deborah Jenkins - Florida, David Thresher - Tennessee, and Vicki Dawson - Indiana; and three grandchildren - Brandon and Tori Nance - Indiana, and Ashley Thresher - Tennessee.
Interment was in Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Knoxville, TN, on April 7.

JAMES WILLIAM "JIM" BATTERSON
James William “Jim” Batterson, 97, Platte City, passed away on Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at St. Lukes Northland Hospital. He was born on May 21, 1905, in rural St. Clair County near Vista. Jim was raised in Osceola and on a farm near Tiffin.
He moved to Kansas City in 1926 working and managing Bungalow Hamburgers, a local chain of lunch stands. He later owned four of these including one near 14th and Main Street in downtown Kansas City and another near Wyandotte High School.
He later started and ran Jim's Music Service in the northeast area of Kansas City. He had pinball and music machines (jukeboxes) in businesses around the region. He knew business owners from 18th and Vine to Weston, MO.
Jim married Zela Elma Richardson on June 24, 1934 in El Dorado Springs. He lived in the Northeast area of Kansas City until 1950 when he, his wife and son moved to a farm near Camden Point. There he returned to farming.
In 1979 he moved to a home in Platte City with his wife where they have lived ever since. He enjoyed numerous friendships through the years with people of all generations. He particularly enjoyed playing Canasta, eating pies and cobblers. Jim was an avid vegetable gardener and will be missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Mary Florence Kelley Batterson; four sisters - Nelle Coffey, Ruth Sandage, Mary Jones and Essie Houser Coffey and one son, James R. Batterson, Sr.
He is survived by his wife, of 68 years, Elma, of the home; his daughter-in-law, Joyce Batterson - Platte City; one grandson, Dr. Bob Batterson Jr. - Kansas City; three sisters, Helen Boch - El Dorado Springs, Georgia Hallford - Rockville and Orpha Lee Hon - Kansas City.
Services were held on Sunday, Dec. 8. Interment was Dec. 9, in the El Dorado Springs Cemetery under the direction of the Hackleman and Sons Funeral Home.

CARL LYLE CONWAY
Carl Lyle Conway, 61, born on April 1, 1941, in Anadarko, OK, to the late Dr. Sam Lyle Conway and Eula Markham Conway. He passed away at home in Nevada, on Dec. 7, 2002, after a well-fought battle with cancer.
Carl is survived by his wife, Andrea Conway; daughter, Christina Nelson and her husband, Ralph Nelson, and children, Rebecca, Rachel, Ryan and Renee - Vandalia; his son, Craig Conway and his wife, Shellie, and children, Jerad, Carina and Mikel - El Dorado Springs. Also surviving are his mother, Eula Conway Carter - El Dorado Springs, and brothers; Charley Conway - El Dorado Springs, and Curt Conway - Chicago, IL.
He was employed by the Missouri Department of Conservation for 37 years. The first 13 years as a Conservation Agent in Johnson County. The remainder as a Wildlife Management Biologist in El Dorado Springs, where he worked to preserve, restore and help people appreciate some of Missouri's native prairies and glade savannahs that he loved so much.
Carl was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Tri-Lakes Aerie #4279, El Dorado Springs, where he served as the first Worthy President.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, at the Sheldon Funeral Home, El Dorado Springs with Rev. Tom Willoughby officiating. Interment was in the El Dorado Springs Cemetery. Pallbearers were Larry Olson, Roger Klepper, Bob Wiley, John O'Bannon, Corey Conway and Jeff Conway. Honorary pallbearers were Ralph Nelson, Mikel Guajardo, Loel Wilson, Gary Robison, Rick Gregg and Jamie Garver.
Memorial donations may be made to the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation (M.A.R.F.) in care of the Sheldon Funeral Home, El Dorado Springs.

LENORL DELORA (GRIMES) HOPPER
Lenorl Delora (Grimes) Hopper, 91, was born on Jan. 20, 1911, in Salem, NE. She was one of four daughters of Henry and Sarah (Johnson) Grimes.
Lenorl grew up and attended school in Forest City. She married Joseph Lafayette Hopper and they became the parents of three children. Lenorl and Joseph later divorced.
Lenorl worked as a cook and seamstress. Joseph died in 1978.
Lenorl passed away at the Heartland Hospital, St. Joseph, on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Virginia Hopper; and three sisters - Ruth, Thelma and Maude. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Harvey - Forest City; her son, Melvin Hopper - St. Joseph; seven step-children - May Noble, Yvonne Brashears, Irene Shubert, Joseph Hopper Jr., Gary Hopper and David Hopper - all of St. Joseph, and Allen Hopper - Osborne; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services were held Tuesday, Dec. 3, in the Chamberlain Funeral Home, Oregon, MO, under the direction of the Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola. Interment was in the Forest City Cemetery, Forest City.

STEPHAN EDWARD KOSHKO
Stephan Edward Koshko, 47, Schell City, passed away at his home in Schell City Sunday, Dec. 8.
Services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, at the NEVC Elementary Campus.
Interment, with military honors, followed at the Green Lawn Cemetery, Schell City, under the direction of the Lewis-Hoagland Funeral Home, Schell City.

CHESTER E. DEPUE
Chester E. Depue, 88, Slater, formerly of El Dorado Springs, passed away Friday, June 6, 2003, in the University of Missouri Hospital, Columbia.
He was born June 4, 1915, in Bartkesville, OK, the son of the late David and Gladys Davis Depue. He was married to Norma Schloniker.
Chester was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a member of the American Legion Post #233, the V.F.W. Post #257 and the D.A.V. He worked most of his life as a miner. He had also farmed, welded and drove a truck. He moved to Slater in 1996 from El Dorado Springs.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma, in 2002; and by seven brothers and sisters.
He is survived by three sons - Harley Depue and Norman Depue - both of Slater, and David Depue - Reading, KS; a daughter, Rosella Heathman - Reading, KS; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services were Tuesday, June 10, in the Weiker Funeral Home, Slater, with Charles R. Guthrie officiating. Organist Bethany Weiker played “How Great Thou Art” and “Will The Circle Be Unbroken.” Burial with military rites was in the El Dorado Springs City Cemetery under direction of the Weiker Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Harold Clark, Richard Graham, David Geist, Robert Depue, Michelle Smith and Harold Rossman.
