Earnest Lee Edward Bennett
Earnest "Ernie" Lee Edward Bennett, 82, El Dorado Springs, was born on Jan. 12, 1923, in Dade County, the son of Sitha Angeline Vaughn Bennett and Edward Bennett and went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, at his home.
He was united in marriage to Pearl Ellen Thornton on Sept. 27, 1941. The couple made their home in Dade County until June 1968, they then moved to El Dorado Springs. There he was employed by Fugate Motors until his retirement in 1987.
Ernie enjoyed his early morning coffee setting on the back porch with Pearl, his loving and faithful wife of 63 years. He enjoyed his many visits with family and friends. He also enjoyed having a garden and telling tall tales about his tomato crop. He once asked someone if they wanted to buy 50 pounds of tomatoes and they said they would take about 30 pounds. Ernie said he would not cut one in half.
He was saved at an early age and rededicated his life to the Lord in 1995. He couldn't wait for Sunday to come so he could attend church services.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Nora Dill; and four brothers - Lloyd, Troy, Milton and Everett.
Survivors include his wife, Pearl, of the home; his four children - Tom and Pauline Bennett - El Dorado Springs, Kathleen (Kay) and Randy Daniel - Greenfield, Cheryl and Dave Norman - El Dorado Springs and Patty and Bill Ward - Battlefield; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; nieces; nephews; cousins and a host of friends.
Earnest will be sadly missed by all that knew him. He was a great man.
Services were held Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 1, at the Hackleman Chapel with Brent Bland officiating. Musical selections were provided by Mr. and Mrs. Howard Bennett and George Bennett. Interment was in the Corry Cemetery, near Dadeville under the direction of the Hackleman and Sons Funeral Home, El Dorado Springs. Pallbearers were Joshua Norman, Joey Norman, Jake Norman, Bill Ward, Rick Bennett and Matt Bennett.
Rosemary Colbert
Rosemary Colbert, 72, El Dorado Springs, was born Nov. 26, 1932, to John and Mabel Lynn - Eaton, CO, and passed away Jan. 22, 2005, at St. John's Regional Health Center in Springfield, to be with her Lord and Savior.
Rosemary lived in El Dorado Springs for about 20 years, where she attended the Church of the Nazarene. She loved caring for and supporting her grandson, Jason Wayne Bruce, and all of the other grandchildren and children.
Rosemary was preceded in death by her mother and father, John Henry and Mabel Claire Lynn; brother, Paul Lynn; sisters, Nancy Pankey and twin sister, Rose Lee Parson; daughter, Wanda Lee Wheeler and two grandchildren, Samatha and Alma Bruce.
Survivors include Kenneth Wayne Bruce and Roy Dale Bruce - El Dorado Springs; Ray Albert and his wife-Becky - Walker; David Lynn Bruce and his wife-Lynnie - Texas; Linda Gannaway and husband-Don - Nebraska; from El Dorado Springs - John Nelson and his wife-Michelle, Jerry Colbert and his wife-Christie, Gary Colbert and his wife-Elizabeth and Judy Delk and her husband-Rick; one step-son, Jerry James Gage - Texas; 25 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held Wednesday, Jan. 26, at the Sheldon Chapel with burial in the Pleasant Springs Cemetery under direction of the Sheldon Funeral Home, El Dorado Springs.
James Harold Jenkins
James Harold Jenkins, 74, El Dorado Springs, was born on Jan. 5, 1931, in Eldon and passed away Jan. 27, 2005, in his home.
He was united in marriage to Linda Darlene Sander on Jan. 24, 1953. From this marriage, were born two daughters, Sandra L. Gillis and Darla J. Davis Boultinghouse.
Jim served in the United States Navy from 1947 until 1958.
He was preceded in death by this mother, Eura Maxine Kerr; his daughter, Darla J. Davis Boultinghouse; and his great-granddaughter, Darla Christene Davis.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Darlene; his daughter, Sandra Gillis, and his brother, Donald Jenkins - all of El Dorado Springs; his sister, Anna Rose Wright - Garden Grove, CA; his grandchildren - Robert Gillis, Jennifer Gillis Daniel, Samantha Gillis, Sean Gillis, Shane Davis, Lee Boultinghouse and Eric Boultinghouse; great-grandchildren - Skyler Greathouse, Ty Ray Davis, Wesley Davis and Ken Leigh Daniel.
A memorial service was held Sunday, Jan. 30, at the Hackleman Chapel, El Dorado Springs.
Betty Jane Blagg Mayben
Betty Jane Blagg Mayben, 66, Soddy Daisy, TN, was born March 20, 1938, the daughter of Marion and Mildred Blagg and passed away on Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005, after a short illness.
Betty Jane graduated from the El Dorado Springs High School in 1956.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Ruth Kelly; and one brother, Kenneth Blagg.
Survivors include her husband, Ted Mayben, and son, Tim Mayben - Soddy Daisy, TN; two sisters, Thelma Pritchett - Moundville and Mary Ann Trigg - Waverly; and one brother, Delbert Blagg - El Dorado Springs.
Graveside services will begin at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, at the Love Cemetery with Rev. James Coleman officiating. Interment will be under the direction of the Hackleman and Sons Funeral Home, El Dorado Springs.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-8 p.m. on Thursday evening, Feb. 3.
Frankie L. McCormick
Frankie L. McCormick, 100, Silver Spring, MD, was born Dec. 7, 1904, in Bethany, to Howard W. and Ruie Heath White and passed away Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005.
She was raised in Filley, Cedar County.
In 1920 she married Roy E. McWilliams. He died in 1962. In 1967, she married Roy H. McCormick and moved from Cedar County to N. Kansas City.
She was also preceded in death by her step-son, Gary McCormick.
Survivors include her husband, Roy H. McCormick - N. Kansas City; daughter, Dorris Hannawald, and son-in-law, Emmett Hannawald - Silver Spring, MD; grandson, Jim Hannawald - Denton, MD; granddaughters, Karen Van Aacken - Silver Spring, MD, and Janice Erickson - Germantown, MD; six great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Howard A Novinger
Howard A. Novinger, 65, Monett, passed away Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005, in his home.
He was born Sept. 23, 1939, in Newport News, VA, to Howard E. and Elizabeth Watts Novinger. On Aug. 17, 2000, he married Mary Ann Van Peursem in Newport News, VA. She survives of the home.
Mr. Novinger was a retired truck driver. He resided in El Dorado Springs in the late l990's after his retirement.
Survivors include his mother, Elizabeth Novinger, Newport News, VA; one son, Clay Novinger, Carthage; four step children - G. Gordon Webb - Riverside, Jamie Stone - Lamar, David Rysdam - Milford, N. H. and Sarah Rysdam of the home; one brother, Steve Novinger - McClean, VA; one sister, Patricia Ford - Raleigh, N.C. and 10 grandchildren.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Monett. Services began at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Walt Hamer officiating. Interment was in Waldensian Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Lions Club.
Arrangements were under the direction of Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett.
Ernest Bennett Price
Ernest Bennett "Ernie" Price, 62, Pittsburg, KS, formerly of Pleasanton, was born March 1, 1942, in Pittsburg, KS, to J.C. and Clelia (Bennett) Price and passed away Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, KS.
He attended area schools, graduating from Quapaw, OK, High School with the class of 1960. He went on to NEO and graduated from Kansas Teachers College (PSU) with a master's degree and specialty degree in education.
On Aug. 13. 1960, he married Donna Raye Bird in Quapaw, OK. She survives of the home.
He taught and coached at many schools including Lamar High School for two years, Fort Hays State for six years, Newton High School for two years, El Dorado Springs High school for three years, Quapaw High School for one year, Northeast High School in Arma for two years, West Elk High School in Howard for two years, where he was assistant principal and Pleasanton High School for five years, as principal. He was superintendent for Moran High School for nine years and principal at Pleasanton for five years until his retirement in 2002.
After retirement he and his wife moved to Pittsburg, KS. He was most recently employed at Bath-Naylor Funeral Home and Friskel Funeral Home.
He was on the Kansas Board of Education, Kansas State High School Activities Association, NEA and helped organize funding for a new Moran school. He was involved with Superintendent Advisory Committees with Greenbush. He spoke at Kansas Congress for small school funding. There is an annex building at Pleasanton High School named after him. There is a plaque from East Central Kansas Special Education Cooperative for outstanding service as a member of Board Superintendent. He also received the Distinguished Service Award in school administration. He belonged to the Sugar Valley Lake Board in Mound City.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Additional survivors include his sons, Tracy Price - El Dorado Springs and Jeff Price - Carthage; daughter, Debbie Hobbs - Pittsburg; sister, Clair Thompson - Tulsa, OK; and five grandchildren.
Services were Monday, Jan. 24, at Bath-Naylor Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Perkins officiating, under the direction of the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, Pittsburg, KS. Inurnment will be at a later date.
