ALDEN HESS
Alden Hess, a longtime owner-operator of Hess Plumbing and Heating, was a volunteer fireman, Blue Ridge Church trustee and avid hunter, fisherman and gardener; but still took time to be a caring and concerned husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
This El Dorado Springs native was born on July 10, 1999, into the family of Peter and Clarinda Hess and was preceded in death by both parents and his only brother, Dewey Hess, and two sisters, Ella Eason and Winnie Englund. Twin sisters died in infancy.
Alden was a unique and witty man. He attended Forrest Grove country school but some of his greatest learning was self-taught. He was always a hard worker and his hardest work was in the time when homes were becoming modern and most ditches were dug by hand. He brought smiles to many faces as they first heard the running water in sinks and bathtubs and the flush of toilets. He was a very kind and generous man. Many times when people could not pay the bills if they could pay for supplies, the labor was free. He loved to share whatever he had with anyone in need, from loaning his tools to giving his garden produce away. He was a good neighbor and friend to all. He loved the satisfaction of a job being well done.

Area grandchildren that grew up sitting on Grandpa's lap and listening to his tall tales and teasing are Nathan and Savannah Murrell, Christopher Coleman, Waylon, Linda and Colby Wood. He loved and cherished his family.
Alden was saved and baptized and was a member of the Blue Ridge Church of God (Holiness) and was faithful to attend every service until his health failed. He loved to attend area revivals and to testify. Alden faced his failing health with courage and with the loving care of his wife, Melissa, his daughters, Shirley and Joyce, and a special sister-in-law, Mary Greenstreet, and the caring help of home health he was able to stay in his own home.
