FRANK MORRIS
Frank Morris, 80, El Dorado Springs, was born April 27, 1923, in Marceline, to William H. and Rose Calvert Morris and passed away Sept. 18, 2003.
Frank served in World War II in the 149th Engineer Combat Battalion. He retired from Amoco Oil after 24 years of service.
On Nov. 21, 1947, he was united in marriage to Donna Mae Fletcher. To this union three daughters were born - Pamela Ritter, Linda K. McCullick and Brenda Riggs.
Frank was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters and one son-in-law, Leonard Ritter - Weaubleau.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Mae - of the home; three daughters - Pam Ritter, Linda K. McCullick and Brenda Riggs; two sons-in-law, Tom Riggs - Las Vegas, NV, and Wayne McCullick - El Dorado Springs; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
Graveside services were held on Monday, Sept. 22, with Rev. Brent Bland officiating. Military honors were provided by VFW Post #257. Interment was in El Dorado Springs City Cemetery under direction of Sheldon Funeral Home, El Dorado Springs.
BERNICE OLETA PIKE
Bernice Oleta Pike, 88, El Dorado Springs, passed away Sept. 16, 2003, at Nevada Regional Medical Center.
She was born March 4, 1917, in Decater, AR, to Roy O. and Gertie E. Pruitt Scantlin. She married Everett L. Pike on April 9. 1935, in Harrisonville. Mr. Pike passed away on Aug. 20, 1996.
Mrs. Pike was also preceded in death by one son, Lee Everett Pike Jr.; three sisters; one brother; one grandson and one great-grandson.
Mrs. Pike was employed for many years at Key Clothing as a seamstress.
She was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Survivors include three sons - Jimmy Ray Pike and Stanley Joe Pike - El Dorado Springs and Tommy Joe Pike - Strawberry, AR; two daughters, Barbara Lee Hume - Nevada and Betty Fern Hampton - El Dorado Springs; numerous grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Friday, Sept. 19, in the Evergreen Memorial Chapel, Nevada, with Ralph Satterlee officiating. Cremation was under direction of Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
RALPH DENTON REASONER
Ralph Denton Reasoner, 98, son of Elmer Ennis Reasoner and Barbara (Mead) Reasoner, was born Aug. 6, 1905, in Appleton City and passed from this life on Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, in the Nevada Regional Medical Center, Nevada.
Ralph attended Potts School and finished the eighth grade there.
On Dec. 25, 1940, Ralph was united in marriage to Mildred Fern Morrow. To their union three sons were born. He lived and farmed east of Appleton City most of his life. Aside from farming, Ralph's interests included carpentry and horses.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lloyd Reasoner and Hernie Reasoner; and his wife, Mildred, who passed away on Nov. 27, 2000.
Survivors include his three sons - Calvin Reasoner and his wife-Betty - Cashion, OK, Daurell Reasoner and his wife-Kaye - Harwood, and Eddie Reasoner and his wife-Beverly - Harwood; one brother, Lynn Reasoner, and his wife-Lydia - Appleton City; 13 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Monday, Sept. 22, at the Westfield Cemetery, Appleton City, with Pastor Gary Brady officiating. Musical selections were provided by Randy Reasoner. Pallbearers were Randy Reasoner, Larry Reasoner, Mike Reasoner, Rick Reasoner, David Reasoner and Scott Kordis. Interment followed under direction of the Lewis-Hoagland Funeral Home, Schell City.
VERA E. RODIECK
Vera E. Rodieck, 89, Nevada, passed away Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, at Christian Health Care, Nevada, where she had been a resident for several years. She was born March 2, 1914, in Ringgold, NE, to John F. Spencer and Bertha S. Brown Spencer. She married Alvin Henry Rodieck on March 23, 1941, in Appleton City. He preceded her in death on July 20, 2003.
Vera was born and raised in Nebraska. She moved to Nevada in 1932 with her family. Following her marriage, she and Alvin made their home on a farm southwest of Harwood for more than 50 years. Besides helping with the farm, Vera raised poultry and sold eggs to hatcheries in Montrose. Later, Vera raised a large garden and started an egg and vegetable route in Nevada. She was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in El Dorado Springs.
In addition to her husband, Alvin, she was preceded in death by one sister, Leona Armstrong.
Survivors include one brother, Vern Spencer - Nevada; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with Pastor Johannes Brann officiating. Friends may call until the hour of the service. The family will receive friends from 10 - 11 a.m. on Thursday prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park under direction of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
MABEL JANSSENS
Former businesswoman and the owner/operator of Janssens Funeral Home, Mabel Janssens, 83, El Dorado Springs, passed away Monday, March 24, 2003, at Cedar County Memorial Hospital, El Dorado Springs.
Survivor include two sisters, Dorothea Meritt, Nevada, and Melba Bowen, Stockton; and one brother, Buford Garwood, Lockwood.
Friends called after 1 p.m Tuesday at the Lewis-Hoagland Funeral Home, Schell City.
Viewing was from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, prior to the service at the First Baptist Church, El Dorado Springs, which began at 11 a.m.
Burial was in Moore Cemetery, Nevada, at 1:30 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church in El Dorado Springs c/o Lewis-Hoagland Funeral Home, Schell City.
ALMA JANNETE MALLICOAT
Alma Jannete Mallicoat, 95, was born Sept. 13, 1907, in Monegaw Springs to Otto Mansfield and Mayme Waugh Dunn. She passed away March 17, 2003, at her home in Osceola.
Alma was united in marriage to Frank Mallicoat in 1925. To this union two children were born, Grace Lucille Dutcher and B.L. (Shorty) Mallicoat.
Alma was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; her parents; three sisters - Ethel Fields, Mabel Rose and Essie Cole; and one brother, Ken Dunn.
She is survived by her daughter, Grace Dutcher - Monegaw Springs; son, B.L. Mallicoat - Rockville; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and many loving nephews, nieces and friends.
Services were held Thursday, March 20, at Benton Green Cemetery with Rev. Gene Gray officiating. Musical selections were “The Rose” and “Some Folks Call It Heaven.” Casketbearers were Harold Dutcher, Larry Dutcher, Albert Mallicoat, Michael Mallicoat, Joe Crenshaw and Dennis Woody. Interment was in Benton Green Cemetery under direction of Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.
DOROTHY M. SAVERY
Dorothy M. Savery, 89, passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2003. She was born on Sept. 3, 1913, in Hickory County.
On July 11, 1930, she was united in marriage to Charles W. Savery, who passed away on Aug. 9, 1989. to this union four children were born.
Mrs. Savery was a homemaker and an avid collector of dolls, whether they were new, old or in need of repair.
She is survived by her four children - Laura May Letson - El Dorado Springs, Charles W. Savery Jr. - Joplin, Oneth Bud Savery - Garden, KS, and Dennis Lee Savery - Fort Scott, KS; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were held on Sunday afternoon, March 23, at the Hackleman Chapel with Rev. Howard McPeak officiating. Musical selections were provided by Faith Trussell. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Trading Post Cemetery at Trading Post, KS.
DANNIE D. STRONG
Dannie D. Strong, 70, Artesian, SD, passed away March 17, 2003, at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital. Services were held Friday, March 21, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Mitchell, SD. Burial was in Graceland Cemetery.
Dannie was born Nov. 27, 1932, at Presho, SD, to Donald O. and Isabelle (Lenocker) Strong. He moved with his family to Kentucky in 1935 and then back in 1937 to farm in the Plankinton and Mt. Vernon area. They moved to El Dorado Springs in 1947 and he returned to South Dakota in 1949. He attended schools in the Mt. Vernon area and El Dorado Springs.
Dannie served in the US Army from 1953 - 1955, spending one and a half years in Korea and received the Korean War Medal. He worked on the Herman and Ernest Deinert farms and Lloyd Boehnen farm. He did telephone and electrical construction in Florida, Georgia, North and South Carolina, Minnesota, North and South Dakota and Iowa.
He married Helen Smith on April 29, 1958, in Mitchell, SD, and was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in February, 1959. They farmed near Mt. Vernon and Mitchell until 1973, when they moved to Sanborn County. He was chairman of Lisbon #20 School Board, a member of the N.R.A. and ushered and served on other committees at Zion Lutheran Church. He worked at Trail King for 13 years and retired in January, 2001.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; six children - Sherri Brummett and husband, William - Mitchell, SD, Wesley, 101st Airborne Division and wife, Sharon - Sanford, NC, Randy Sr. and wife, Jane - Mitchell, SD, Todd - San Diego, CA, Marty - Denver, CO, and Christy Strong-Larson and husband, Jason - Sioux Falls; his mother, Isabelle Hope Strong - El Dorado Springs; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two sisters - Shirley Fletcher - Joplin, and Mary Foley and husband, Frank - El Dorado Springs; a brother, Willis and wife, Billy - Liberal; a sister-in-law, Doris Strong - Kansas City; and brothers-in-law, Delmar Hemeyer, Harlan and Marilyn Smith and Harvey and Cheryl Smith.
He was preceded in death by his father, brothers, Donald and Wesley, and an infant son.
