HELEN E. RICE
Helen Elsie Rice, 90, Neosho, died 11 a.m. Monday, March 26, 2001, at Beverly Health Care in Neosho after a long illness. She was born July 5, 1910, in South Bend, IN, to Charles Burton and Lydia (Graffenberger) Greenwood.
Mrs. Rice came to Neosho as a child in 1914 with her family. They later moved to the rural Diamond area. She resided in Neosho from 1950 to 1991; then lived in Lamar until 1999 when she returned to Neosho. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She worked many years as a secretary, retiring from the Neosho High School Library in 1977. She was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church of Neosho where she served as church secretary from 1956 to 1962. She enjoyed quilting for many years, leaving a quilt for each of her descendants. In retirement her hobbies included reading and bird watching. Her first husband, Elza Hunter, preceded her in death in 1934. She later married Eugene Douglas Rice who is also deceased.
She was also preceded in death by four brothers-Clarence, Leroy, Walter and Lelsie Greenwood, all who resided in area communities.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Janice Rice, Lamar; one daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Jack Hubbard, Neosho; three grandchildren-Todd Rice and wife, Melissa, Boise, ID, Chelsey Haelat and husband, Brett, Chicago, IL, and Molly Lydia Hubbard, Neosho; one brother and three sisters-in-law, Burton and Val Greenwood, Nixa, Velma Ortloff, Neosho and Christine Greenwood Fenn, Carthage.
Services were April 1 at the Calvary Baptist Church of Neosho with Pastor Rick Hedger and Elder Norman Highley officiating. Interment followed in the Diamond Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were nephews-Ernie, John, Gary, Jerry, Terry, Darrel and Kent Greenwood. Honorary pallbearers were Raymond Welcher and Ken Barnes.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund in c/o the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Clark Funeral Home of Neosho.

EARNEST RAYMOND ROBY
Earnest Raymond Roby, 94, Nevada, passed away Friday evening, March 30, 2001, at Christian Health Care, Nevada, following a legnthy illness. Mr. Roby was born Aug. 14, 1906, in Claude, MO, the son of Ernest Rubin Roby and Rose Catherine Watts Roby. Mr. Roby came to Vernon County in 1961 and spent the remainder of his life here. He made his living as a mechanic, carpenter and as a farmer. He also ran a milk route for Carnation for many years. He was a member of the Heritage Baptist Church.
On Sept. 7, 1927, he was united in marriage to Nora Sylvania Lukenbill at Harwood. She preceded him in death on Feb. 17, 1956. Mr. Roby later married Irous Dovie Hess in Nevada on April 13, 1961, and she survives.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include seven sons-James Roby-Melford, OR, Gene Roby, White Oak, TX; Franklin Roby, Martinez, CA; Jerry Roby, Grandview, ID; Johnnie Roby, Lee's Summit; Donald Roby, El Dorado Springs; and Dean Roby, Jonesboro, AR; four daughters, Ida Kessler, Petaluma, CA; Norma Murry, El Dorado Springs; Irene Wallace, Nevada; and Mae Smith, Gainesville, TX; one stepson, Leroy Pryor, Lee's Summit; six stepdaughters, Betty Parrach, Nevada; Dovie Crossland, Independence; Annie Mayfield-Grove, OK, Edna Hunter-Versailles, Pauline Allen-Bently, KS and Ivy Wilson, Jefferson City. Also surviving are numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one brother-Martin Roby-El Dorado Springs, and one sister, Magdalen Grow, Joplin.
Services were held Monday, April 2, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada. Bill Clevenger officiated with intermenty in Greenlawn Cemetery, Rich Hill.

C. JANIECE SCHMIDT
C. Janiece Schmidt, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2001, at Hidden Lakes Care Center. She was born in St. Clair County on Aug. 6, 1913, the daughter of Roy R. and Nancy (Allen) Culbertson. She married John F. Schmidt in 1934 and was his devoted wife until his passing in 1993. They lived in Independence during the early years of their marriage until moving to Raytown in 1961. She was a homemaker and loving mother to her son and daughter. She delighted in her five grandchildren, their spouses and her 13 great-grandchildren and was always interested in and concerned about each one. She loved all her family very much. Her, love, loyalty, liveliness and encouragement will be greatly missed. Janiece enjoyed traveling, was an avid Royals fan and loved to cook. She was an active member of Raytown Baptist Church until restricted by health problems, but always exhibited a deep faith in God.
She is survived by her son, John; daughter, Laura; son-in-law, Richard Leaver; grandchildren, Mark Leaver, Karin Spencer, Janet Watt, Kurt Leaver, Bret Leaver and their spouses, John Spencer David Watt and Kristen Leaver. Great-grandchildren, Mark (Jr.), Bryce and Ashley Leaver; Andrew and Lauren Spencer, Matthew, Brandon, Tyler and Danielle Watt, Logan and Lexi Leaver and Shea and Morgan Leaver also survives her. She is also survived by two sisters, Pansy Breeden, El Dorado Springs; and Nova Biwer, Lee's Summmit, and many nieces and nephews.

JO ANNE KING
Jo Anne King, 46, Nevada, died March 31, 2001, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin after a long battle with ovarian cancer. She was born Sept. 9, 1954, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Roger Allen and Edith E. "Cole" Hammergreen.
She was a graduate of El Dorado Springs High School in 1972, and then attended Missouri Southern where she obtained an associates degree. In 1976, she was employed by Pillsbury of Joplin. She then continued her schooling while substitute teaching. She moved to El Dorado Springs, in 1990 where she was employed by Cedar County Memorial Hospital. She was then employed by the Nevada State Hospital as a developmental assistant, moving to Nevada, in 1991. She then worked for Key Work Clothes in Nevada.
She was united in marriage to Kevin K. King on Feb. 14, 1992, in Nevada. In 1995, she was employed by O'Sullivans in Lamar. In 1999, she became a substitute teacher for the Nevada R-5 School District, a job she dearly loved.
She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in El Dorado Springs, where she taught Sunday School. She was very active in the Bryan and Benton School P.T.O. She enjoyed fishing and gardening.
Survivors include her son, Kevin, of the home; three daughters-Aubrey Housh, and her husband, Jerron-Diamond; and Allison and Kaitlyn King of the home; one grandchild, Colby Tate Housh, the light of her life; four brothers-Kenneth Hammergren and his wife, Barbara-Whittier, CA, Kermit Hammergren and his wife, Kate-Sacramento, CA, Roger Allen Hammergren Jr. and his wife, Linda-Garden City and George Hamergren and his wife, Colleen-Bloomington, NE; and two sisters, Donna Fletcher, and her husband, Jim, and Nancy Post and her husband, Bob-El Dorado Springs; two brothers-in-law, Jay Wyson and his wife, Judy-Modesto, CA, and Bill King and his wife, Julie-Independence; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; George and Bertha "Estep" Cole, and Oscar and Edna Hammergren; five uncles; two aunts and one nephew.
Services were at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, at First Baptist Church 301 E. Highland, Nevada, with Pastor Dana G. Taylor and Dr. William C. Cox officiating. Interment was in Newton Burial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Evergreen Memorial Chapel, Hwy. 54 East at Hickory, Nevada.

TRACY DAWN SCOTT
Tracy Dawn Scott, 33, was born on May 13, 1967, at the Cedar County Memorial Hospital. She departed this life on March 29, 2001, at the home of her parents in El Dorado Springs, after a long illness.
Besides her parents, Janice and Scotty Scott, Tracy is survived by her daughter, Shastyn Symone Ketterman, and her son, Brandon Dale Scott, and his daughter, Madison Marie Scott, whose sweet smile brought her lots of joy; her brother, Kevin Dale Scott, and his wife, Julie, and their son, Kellan Gaige Scott, whom she absolutely loved and adored; and her grandmother, Frances Kenney, Kansas City. Tracy is also survived by her very special cousin and dear friend, Darcy Bland, who helped her so much in so many ways; several aunts, uncles and cousins and many close friends.
Tracy's illness took a toll on her life, but she never lost her sense of humor or the love for her family and her friends. Tracy enjoyed drawing and writing poems, which she was very good at even when her health started to diminish.
Tracy will hold a spot in everyone's heart who knew and loved her. Our minds are at ease, knowing she is with her grandma and grandpa, Susie and Glen Gibbs.
Services were held on Monday, April 2, at the Hackleman Chapel with Rev. James Coleman officiating. Interment was in the Love Cemetery under the direction of the Hackleman and Sons Funeral Home. Pallbearers were cousins-Robert Wayne Gibbs, D.J. Reeder, Kendall Gibbs, Brian Gibbs, Jason Spencer, Kevin Bland and Lofty Gibbs.

CLARENCE LAVERN RODGERS
Clarence Lavern Rodgers, 61, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, March 28, 2001, at the Cedar County Memorial Hospital. He was born on Sept. 28, 1939, in Oil City, PA, the son of Vern and Marie Rodgers.
Clarence was united in marriage to Betty Rock who preceded him in death. Besides his wife, Clarence was also preceded in death by a son, Jack. Survivors include his daughter, Jill Faraone, and her husband, Tony, and their children, J.R. and Kayla, all of Pennsylvania; a son, Rodney, of Canada; three stepsons-Roger, Wayne and Kevin Rock; and two step daughters, Wanda and Mona; four sisters-Agatha Daniels, Sandy Knapp, Charlotte Messick and Sharon Kicenski, all of El Dorado Springs; three brothers-Joseph Rodgers of Pennsylvania, Tim Rodgers of Ohio and Danny Rodgers of Schell City; and a host of cousins, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held on Saturday afternoon, March 31, at the Hackleman Chapel with Rev. Doug Houdyshell officiating. Musical selections were provided by Faith Trussell. The body has been cremated.

ROLLA CHARLES PREWITT
Rolla Charles Prewitt, 62, El Dorado Springs, was born Nov. 30, 1939, in Fall City, NE. He departed this life on April 3, 2001, at his home.
Rolla was retired from the United States Air Force and had mad his home in El Dorado Springs for the past several years.
Survivors include his three brothers and their families - Daniel Prewitt - Langley, WA, Delbert Prewitt - Raytown and Leslie T. Prewitt - Pineville, LA.
Memorial Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 12, in the Hackleman Chapel with Rev. Doug Houdyshell officiating. Inurnment will be in Conway Cemetery under direction of Hackleman and Sons Funeral Home.

MILTON EUGENE LADY
Milton Eugene Lady, 88, was born Sept. 25, 1912, to John Oliver and Emma Barbara Kohler Lady in Rich Hill. He departed this life on Monday morning, April 9, 2001, at the Community Springs Nursing Home.
In 1936, he was united in marriage to Virgie May Carpenter. Virgie passed away in 1972.
Milton and Virgie worked their farm together at Richards. They had chickens, pigs and cows and worked their large pecan groves. Later, Milton enjoyed his catfish ponds.
Beside his wife, Virgie, Milton was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers - John, George and Lloyd; and one sister, Mary Hughes.
Survivors include his brother, Clarence, and his wife, Louise - Madison, MS; one niece, Charlotte Dickinson, and her husband, Don - Madison, MS; one nephew, Leo Lady, and his wife, Mary - El Dorado Springs; one great nephew, Dan Lady, and his wife, Valerie - Monett; one great niece, Debra Jones, and her husband, Gary - El Dorado Springs; two great-great-nephews, Chris and Chase; two great-great-nieces, Kyra and Cassie; and a long time friend, Fern Ewing - Joplin.
Services will begin at 2 p.m. Friday, April 13, at the Hackleman Chapel with Rev. Milan Bourland officiating. Musical selections will be provided by Vera Bourland. Interment will be in the Deerfield Cemetery under direction of Hackleman and Sons Funeral Home.

W. DONALD COLLINS
W. Donald Collins, 74, of the Dederick area, passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at the Nevada Regional Medical Center.
Donald was born in Vernon County, the son of Ira and Alma Collins. He made his living as a mechanic, construction worker and farmer.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Norma Ogle Collins; one son, Kenny, and his wife, Joy; a grandson, Mike, and his wife, Sherri - all of El Dorado Springs; two granddaughters, Shannon, and her husband, Denny - Bronaugh, and Jodie Barker - Nevada; three great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter, who were all very special to him; and three sisters - Erma Hawkins - Walker, Rozella Gammon - Harwood and Bonnie Short - Nevada.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents; one son Denny; and two brothers, Eugene and Ralph.
Services will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, April 13, in the Hackleman Chapel with Rev. Bill Clevenger officiating. Musical selections will be provided by Ruth Brown. Interment will be in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery near Dederick under the direction of Hackleman and Sons Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Larry Lauderback, Jim Russell, Earl Johnson, Chris Vickers, Joey Koehn and Stanton Gammon.
