CECIL P. HERTZBERG
Cecil P. Hertzberg, 85, El Dorado Springs, passed away Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001, at St. John's Regional Health Center in Springfield.
Mr. Hertzberg was a retired telephone company warehouse manager. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in El Dorado Springs and a member of the Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred, of the home; one son, Dennis Hertzberg, El Dorado Springs; one daughter, Mrs. Linda McCormick, El Dorado Springs; one brother, Lawrence Hertzberg, NC; three stepsons-Greg, Steve and Chris Cooksey all of Kansas; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Beulah and Jett; her sister, Wanda Tohnson, and her husband, Phillip Dale Cooksey, who passed away Nov. 14, 2000.
Memorial services were held Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Alder Cemetery in Stockton. Cremation and arrangements were under the direction of the Lewis-Hoagland Funeral Home, Schell City. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Stockton Senior Center, Stockton Lake Plaza Stockton, MO 65785.
DERRILL L. PRICE
Derrill L. Price, 77, Battlefield, died at 1:15 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, in Christian Health Care, Republic. He was born Jan. 3, 1924, in Richards, the son of LeRoy and Pearl (Shores) Price.
He served his country in the U.S. Navy for 20 years, during WWII and the Korean War. Derrill was a cattle rancher in El Dorado Springs and Aurora.
He was of the Prebysterian faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Derrill L. TX and Elizabeth Steketee of Aurora; a grandson, whom Derril raised, Archie F. Price, of Battlefield; two sisters, Ruth Moses and Dorothy Mumaw; and a brother, Donald Price, all of Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, under the direction of Meadors Funeral Home, Republic. The chapel will be open at 8 a.m. to noon Friday.
NORMA JACKSON
Norma Lou Jackson, 80, Miami, OK, died at 2:12 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at Integris Baptist Regional Health Center, Miami, after a sudden illness.
Jackson was born March 9, 1921, in Willow Springs, to Walter and Edna (Thomas) Lovan. She graduated from El Dorado Springs High School with the class of 1939.
She was a housewife and a homemaker. She was a member of the DR Chapter of PEO and a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Miami.
She married Dr. W.D. Jackson on Nov. 18, 1942, in Kansas City. He survives.
Additional survivors include three sons - Tom Jackson-Miami, Jay Jackson-Tulsa and Scott Jackson-Norman; and five grandchildren.
The service was Saturday, Dec. 1, at the First United Methodist Church, Miami, with Rev. Charles Horton and the Rev. John P. Wilson officiating. Burial was in GAR Cemetery.
Pallbearers were John Robison Jr., Bill Harsch, George Foster, Bill Neal, Mike Craig and Marshall Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Don Barr, Gary Gilstrap, Tom Bomford, Bill Melton, Bob Temple, Joe Wimple and Bob Cline.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's favorite charity and may be sent in care of the funeral home, Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home, Miami, OK.
DAVID ALFRED RIPPEE
David Alfred Rippee, 84, the youngest child of Charles Lee and Nettie Epsy Rosenbaum Rippee was born Jan. 28, 1917, in Missouri, until health problems prevented them from attending. They then had meetings in their home until their health declined.
David owned and operated several businesses - car dealership, gas station, motel, carpet store and used car sales. He also managed real estate.
He is survived by his wife and children one one stepson, Pat Goodwin.
Those preceded him death were his parents; four brothers-Ray, Oscar, Edgar and Virgil and two sisters, Virgie Wolf and Lucy Rippee.
Services were Tuesday, Dec. 4, in Brumback Funeral Home with burial in Alder Cemetery.
WILBUR HAROLD PRAY
Wilbur Harold Pray, 91, was born in El Dorado Springs on Dec. 15, 1909, the son of Arthur and Alice Hainline Pray. He passed away Dec. 6, 2001, at the Community Springs Nursing Home, El Dorado Springs.
Wilbur was raised in El Dorado Springs and graduated from El Dorado Springs High School in 1927. On Nov. 11, 1933, he married Mae Ogle of Harwood. After 52 years of marriage, Mae passed away on April 30, 1986. To this union were born three daughters-Phyllis Arlene, Clara Alice and Donna Kay.
Wilbur and Mae moved to the family farm near Walker in 1945. Wilbur loved working on his farm, raising cattle and working with his hands as a carpenter. His greatest joy was his family and following the events of their lives. He served on the Walker school and township boards and enjoyed being a woodwork leader for Walker 4-H. He was a long-time member of the Walker Christian Church.
Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mae, and a brother, Eugene Pray.
He is survived by his three daughters-Phyllis Liles and her husband, George-Horton, Alice West and her husband, Larry-Austin, TX and Donna Davidson-Walker. Additional survivors include three sisters-Carolyn Reed-Appleton City; twin sisters - Janice Wilson and Joyce Newberry-Springfield; sister-in-law, Henrietta Pray, and brother-in-law, Bob Wilson. Also surviving are grandchildren: Anita Troth and husband, Gary, Kenneth Liles and wife, Connie, Jim Liles and wife, Vicky, Travis West and wife, Sherri, Justin West, Dustin Davidson and wife, Jennifer, Ali Davidson and Tyler Pray Davidson and step-granddaughter, Shelli Younger. Great-grandchildren: Amanda and Jared Liles, Drew and Hollie Liles, Dirk Troth, Emily and Jake Davidson. Step great- grandchildren: Emily Denning, Erika Bain, Erin Bain, Dustin Troth and Tyler Grabarkewitz. His eighth great-grandchild, Jackson Pray West, is due to arrive next month. He is survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews as well. We are all grateful for his life and humbleness and each of us have a special memory of him.
Services were held on Monday morning, Dec. 10, in the Walker Christian Church with Rev. Don Renken officiating. Musical selections ware provided by Ken and Gwen Jones. Interment was in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery under the direction of the Hackleman and Sons Funeral Home. Pallbearers were grandsons-Kenneth Liles, Jim Liles, Travis West, Justin West, Dustin Davidson and Tyler Davidson. Honorary pallbearers were Bob Hutchison, Ermon Cubbage, Bob Clinton Sr., Larry Buckles, Tom Bloesser, Jim Ogle, Larry West, Gary Collins, George Liles and Dennie Poland.
SHIRLEY ANN SHELLHORN
Shirley Ann Shellhorn, 58, El Dorado Springs, was born on Aug. 8, 1943, the daughter of Edward and Madge Coale. She departed this life on Saturday morning, Dec. 8, 2001, at her home.
Shirley was united in marriage to Vernon Shellhorn on June 10, 1961. To this union three children were born-Bobby, Chris and Michelle.
Shirley was saved in April of 1954 at the Old Rock School and was baptized in June of 1954 at the Caplinger Mills Baptist Church. She remained a member of the Caplinger Church for a number of years. Shirley was currently attending Union Hall Baptist Church, where she loved to serve her Lord until her health began to fail.
Shirley was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Madge Coale; a brother, Steven Coale, and her mother-in-law, Mary Shellhorn. Survivors include her husband, Vernon, of the home; her son, Bobby Shellhorn, and his wife, Karen-El Dorado Springs; her two daughters-Chris Johnson and her husband, Kelly-Stockton and Michelle Ketchum and her husband, Vernie-El Dorado Springs; seven grandchildren-Jessica, Courtney, Cody, Corey, Rachel, Kayla and Sarah; her three sisters-Virginia Bland and her husband, Gerald- Stockton, Donna Neely and her husband, Lloyd, and Frances Marshall and her husband, Melvin-all of El Dorado Springs; one brother, Maynard Coale, and his wife, Ruth-Gladstone; her sister-in-laws, Jane Ganaway-El Dorado Springs and Darlene Coale-Kansas City and many nieces and nephews.
Shirley loved working in her flower gardens, being there for her family and spending time with the grandkids.
Services were held Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 11, at the Hackleman Chapel with Rev. Don Palmer officiating. Musical selections were provided by Karen Rains. Interment was in the Brasher Cemetery under the direction of the Hackleman and Sons Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Bobby Shellhorn, Kelly Johnson, Vernie Ketchum, Jason Neely, Scott Coale, Randy Coale, Randy Fletcher and Gary Robison. Honorary pallbearers were Cody Johnson and Corey Ketchum.
Memorial contributions may be made to Vernon County Hospice.
