FLOYD H. STEELY
Floyd H. Steely, 81, Athens, TX, formerly of Vernon County, passed away on Friday morning, Nov. 16, 2001, at Park Highland Nursing Home, Athens, TX, following a lengthy illness. He was born Feb. 10, 1920, in Forsythe, MO, to Henry Elmer Steely and Susie Elvinia Emalina Keller Steely. He married Dolores J. Woolery on Feb. 7, 1948, in Kansas City. She preceded him in death on Feb. 14, 2000.
Mr. Steely served in the Army during WWII. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion. He worked for Bendix Corporation in Kansas City, as a machinist until 1951. He later worked for Remington Arms in Kansas City for 25 years, retiring in 1982. He was a longtime Vernon County resident until recently moving to Athens, TX.
Survivors include four daughters-Patricia Steely, Milo, Mary Stites, Kokomo, IN, Kathy Halberstadt, Ben Wheeler, TX and Cyndy Frazier, El Dorado Springs; two sons, Dean Steely, Milo and Darrell Steely, Oklahoma City, OK; 11 grandchildren; two step-great-grandsons; two sisters, Ruth Hayes and Lou Benham; two brothers, Merle Steely and Thayne Steely and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Services were on Monday, Nov. 19, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada. Interment followed in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dederick.
Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.

DARYL D. FOREST
Daryl D. Forest, 72, Wichita, KS, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 14. He was born on Jan. 24, 1929, at Jerico Springs, the son of Lester Francis and Laura Elizabeth Beydler Forest.
On Dec. 11, 1951, Daryl was united in marriage to Rosemary Strebel at Eureka Springs, AR.
Daryl worked for Boeing and also for Trailways.
Survivors include his wife, Rosemary, of the home; two sons, Daryl Wayne, El Dorado Springs, KS and Douglas-Wichita, KS; two daughters, Sherry Kosbab, Plano, TX and Sandra McNown, Wichita, KS; three brothers, C.W. Forest, Diamond, L.D. Forest, El Dorado Springs and Harry Forest, Joplin; 10 grandchildren - Jeffrey, Jody, Jenice, Charlie, Donnie, Yvette, Michael, LaShelle, Jared and Darren; and nine great-grandchildren, Roger, Baily, Rikki, Jessica, Austin, Dylan, Emily, Ryan and Macy.
Daryl was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Francis and Sam; one sister, Hazel Modglin; his son, Charles D., and a granddaughter, Janna McNown.
Services were held on Saturday morning, Nov. 17, at the Brasher Cemetery, Jerico Springs, with Rev. Doug Houdyshell officiating. Interment was under the direction of the Hackleman and Son Funeral Home.

DOTTIE FERGUS
Dottie Fergus, 82, Excelsior Springs, passed away Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at Liberty (MO) Hospital. She was born on April 10, 1919, in Vernon County to Charlie Quantrell Fergus and Nora Belle Hardin Fergus.
Dottie was raised in Vernon County and spent much of her younger life there. She has resided in Excelsior Springs the last 20 years.
She is survived by one sister, Leta Dell Cox, Excelsior Springs.
Committal services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24, at Martin Cemetery, El Dorado Springs, with Richard Wood officiating. Arrangements are by the Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.

NAOMI FAY DODD
Naomi Fay Dodd, 81, El Dorado Springs, passed away at 1:30 p.m. in Cedar County Memorial Hospital on Nov. 9 where she was a patient for one day. She was born Aug. 28, 1920 on a farm near Collins to Arthur B. Capps and Martha Susan Pace Capps. She had four brothers and three sisters.
Naomi attended Witt School, graduating the eighth grade. At 17 she moved to Kansas City and worked at a meat packing company. There she met her husband to be. On Jan. 10, 1948, Naomi married Clinton Harold Dodd. They moved from Kansas City to South Dakota where they owned a jewelry store for many years. They moved to Shreveport, LA. In 1983 they retired and moved to El Dorado Springs.
Naomi was saved and baptized at age 14, joining the Brush Creek Baptist Church, Collins. She attended the Baptist Church in Turon, SD, later joining the Methodist Church Shreveport, LA. She was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church in El Dorado Springs and attended as long as her health permitted. She loved her church, enjoying the church letter she received each month. She loved young people.
Naomi was a member of the Iris Belles Garden Club, Order of the Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary and Bridge Club. She enjoyed crocheting, bowling and sewing until her health failed.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; brothers - Floyd, Verl, Glen and Herman and one sister, Edna Brinegar.
She is survived by one son, Bruce, El Dorado Springs; two sisters, Zella Fox, Humansville and Corda Verely, Clatskanie, OR; three sisters-in-law-Bonnie Capps, Collins, Wanda Capps, Kansas City and Ada Capps, Chanute, KS; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
During her illness she had to have lots of tender loving care, 24 hours a day. Her son, Bruce, was dedicated to helping her day and night for which she was thankful. Others who did so much were neighbor, Marge Barger; Charles Decker; her nieces, Sharon Barger and Linda Parks; special friends, Mabel Janssen, Wanda and Bill Price. She will be sadly missed. A great lady.
Services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11, in the United Methodist Church, El Dorado Springs with Rev. James Smith officiating. Music was by Tracy Barger and Jannah Barger. Casketbearers were Joe Barger, Michael Barger, David Barger, Dennis Capps, Lee Capps and Mark Brinegar. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Price, Jim German, John Barger, Jeff Capps, Donald Gumm and Terry Weant. Interment was in the Freeman-Holsapple Cemetery under the direction of the Sheldon Funeral Home, El Dorado Springs.

ROY EDMUND BROUGHTON
Roy Edmund Broughton, 89. was born March 11, 1912 to Milton and Oma Broughton in Schell City and was taken home to the family farm where he grew up with a sister and brother. He passed away Oct. 30, 2001, in Fresno, CA.
While attending Harwood High School, he lettered in varsity basketball and was senior class president.
As a young man during the Depression, he moved to Fresno and found employment with the Santa Fe Railway where he started out in the mechanical department and retired as a conductor in 1976 after 40 years of service.
Shortly after arriving in Fresno, Roy became re-acquainted with Lois Cox who was also from Missouri. She soon became the love of his life and they were married on Dec. 21, 1941. They raised three boys. Roy instilled in his sons the desire to excel in whatever they endeavored to do.
Roy and Lois shared a wonderful life together until she passed away on March 24, 1996. They were members of the Memorial Baptist church. He was a Cub Scout Master for Troop 62, a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge 186 and the Sierra Chapter of the Model A Club of America. He enjoyed spending his leisure time at his cabin at Bass Lake.
Roy and son, Tim, attended the El Dorado Springs Picnic and the Harwood School Reunion every two years.
El Dorado Springs relatives include a brother-in-law, Gene Norman, and family; and cousins - Kenneth (Steve) Broughton and family, Charles and Gladean Higgins and Fern McMullin.
Roy is also survived by sons, Steve, and daughter-in-law, Michaelea - Fresno, CA, Phil and daughter-in-law, Gloria - Oakhurst, CA, and Tim - Fresno; grandsons, Brian and Brad Broughton - Fresno; granddaughter, Heidi Broughton, Kingsburg, CA; and his devoted kitty, Blackie.
Roy's brother, Don, and sister, Dorothy, preceded him in death.
Graveside services were held in Clovis Cemetery on Friday, Nov. 2, under direction of Clovis Funeral Chapel.

PAT HOLT BROWN
Pat Holt Brown, 64, passed away Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at her home in Tulsa. She was born Sept. 29, 1937, in Independence to Homer and Frances Davenport.
Pat was a retired office manager for the Frank W. Murphy Manufacturing Company.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Teri Lynn Burris, and two brothers, Frank and William Evans. Pat is survived by her husband, Buddy Brown, of the home; two sons, John Holt-Tulsa and Jeff Holt-Hurst, TX; two sisters, Janet Nesbit, Overland Park, KS, and Linda Klopfenstine, Boonville; two brothers, Robert Evans-Blue Springs and John Evans-Sheldon; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at the Heath-Griffith Memory Chapel, 1823 W. 51st Street, Tulsa, OK, 74107. Graveside, 3:30 p.m., Clintonville Cemetery, El Dorado Springs. Heath Griffith 918/446-6633.

WILMA JOSEPHINE (HAYNES) PRITCHARD
Wilma Josephine (Haynes) Pritchard, 78, the oldest of five children, of the late Alvy Ray and Nellie Phoebe (Shaw) Haynes, was born Feb. 2, 1923, in Filley, Cedar County and departed this life on Nov. 21, 2001. Wilma had spent her last two and a half months at Maranatha Manor in Springfield. Now she will be able to be with her husband that she has longed for the last eight years.
Wilma grew up in the Cedar County area and married Curtis Flaval Pritchard on May 31, 1950, in Harrison, AR. On Jan. 9, 1959, the took into their home their niece, Linda Lee Haynes. On March 26, 1973, they adopted Linda and she became Linda Lee Pritchard. Wilma worked at Evans Rexall Drugs for 25 years. Then she worked at Griffith's clothing store for two years. She had quit to work to care for her husband and travel to Springfield to take care of her grandchildren. In October 1991, they sold the farm and moved to Springfield to be closer to their doctors.
On April 11, 1993, Wilma was baptized at High Street Baptist Church.
Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Curtis Flaval Pritchard; her brother, Frank Everett Haynes was killed in Germany in WWII; her brother, Calvin Lafayette Haynes burned in a trailer fire in 1977.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Lee Leonard and husband, Robert-Springfield; one sister, Delpha Maxine Hobbs, Parkville; two brothers, Delbert Charles Haynes-Marshall and Kenneth Lee Barker-Colorado; two grandchildren, Nathan Alan and Michelle April Leonard-Springfield; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services were held Saturday morning, Nov. 24, at the Hackleman Chapel with Rev. James Coleman officiating. Interment was in the Love Cemetery under the direction of the Hackleman and Sons Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Bobbie Leonard, Elton Evans, Jack Kinnamon, Albert Venter, Thomas Norris and Bud Venter.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Community Hospices of American Foundation, 1465 E. Primrose, Suite A, Springfield, MO 65804.
