BOBBY MARIE FELDER
Barbara Marie Felder, 60, wishes to announce that she has changed her address. She now has a permanent address after years and years of moving as a pilgrim from place to place on this earth. As of April 8, 2002, Bobby's new address is Paradise, or, as is more commonly known, Heaven.
Bobby was born to Gordon and Dorathy Storlie on Feb. 15, 1942, in Minneapolis, MN. She was their second daughter and one of four children.
The Storlie family moved to San Francisco, CA when Bobby was 15. Bobby attended Mission High School in San Francisco. She and her family were active members of the Methodist Church. She gave her heart and soul to the Lord Jesus during a Billy Graham Revival at the Cow Palace in South San Francisco when she was 16 years old.
Bobby met Ron Ortlip in the youth group activities of the church. They dated for several years and then were married. Ron enlisted in the United States Air Force just after his graduation from high school. They moved to numerous places around the country due to his commitment to serving his country. They had three sons: Jeffrey Jon, Gregory Gordon and Jason Dean. Ron attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. His M.O.S. (Military Occupational Service) was in the Pharmacy of each post where he served.
Ron contracted cancer while service at an Air Force Base in Idaho. His untimely death left a young family struggling to deal with life's strange and horrific challenges. Bobby moved her family back to the Bay Area of California. She bought a house and settled in San Jose, CA, to raise her three sons. Her mother, father, her sisters and her brothers as well as all of their friends lived in that area.
Bobby met Dale Felder in September of 1969 in Livermore, CA. They dated for a year and were married in 1970. Dale was a veteran. He had served his country in the United States Army in South Viet Nam. They had a daughter, Gretchen Amy. In June of 1972 the family experienced a revival. They began to attend Piedmont Hills Church.
They all committed and/or recommitted their lives to serving the Lord Jesus. Their Christian adventure took off from that point. The combined family lived in San Jose until the Lord moved them to Mill Valley, CA.
Dale completed his studies at San Jose State University and started his ministerial studies at Golden Gate Theological Seminary in Mill Valley. During this time in the families' life Bobby had been taking art correspondence courses and she enrolled in college classes in the Art Department.
Dale attained his Master of Divinity in 1978 and Bobby was awarded the degree of “Putting Hubby Through” at the same time.
The family moved to San Mateo, CA to begin their ministry at Shoreview Baptist Church. Bobby continued to paint and to work with various crafts.
The Lord moved the family to El Dorado Springs in 1979. They settled into their lives in that community. Bobby became a C.N.A. in Obstetrics at Cedar County Memorial Hospital. She later learned the craft of taking X-Rays. She became a Certified X-Ray Technologist and she went on the become an Ultrasound Stenographer. She loved her work and she loved helping people. The people she worked with at Cedar County Memorial Hospital called her “The Hair Girl.” They were never too sure what hairdo she would have each morning, nor were they sure what hair color she would have that day.
Bobby, her mother and Gretchen started a yarn shop in 1984. They called it Kit and Kaboodle. Her mother, Dorathy, moved on to live in eternity and paradise the first year of it's operation. Bobby and Gretchen continued to work in the shop until it closed in 1987. It was then that Bobby turned to developing yet another creative outlet.
The creation of porcelain dolls became almost an obsession for Bobby in the late 80's. She started the craft as a hobby after seeing what her sister, Shary, was doing with dolls. Doll making soon developed into a full fledged business. She started teaching classes and displaying her handiwork. Bobby operated a Doll Factory out of the family home in El Dorado Springs.
It was during this time period that Bobby was diagnosed with Lupus and Fibromyalgia. She no longer had the ability to work as an X-ray Technical or as an Ultrasound Stenographer. She had to retire from that work, but her creative work with the dolls kept her going. Despite terrible pain throughout her body she kept creating dolls and their clothing. She continued to work through her pain on something that gave her exceptional delight until she was no longer able to physically handle the doll molds, the heavy items and the strain on her hands when she sculpted the dolls. It hurt her in more ways than anyone can every imagine to quit working with her dolls. She did continue to display her dolls throughout her home and in Dale's office.
Bobby and Dale had been ministering to and through the First Christian Church of Osceola.
There was pain in everyone's heart as they watched her give up each of her creative outlets. It hurt her terribly to not be able to work with her dolls, but she changed to quilting, painting and pastel chalk. It was a blow to her when she could not use any of those talents. Bobby was preceded in death by her father and mother, Gordon and Dorathy Storlie, and her younger brother, John Storlie. She is survived by her husband, Dale Felder; her children and her grandchildren: Jeffrey, Sue and Travis Ortlip, Folsom, CA; Gregory, Donna and Brittany Ortlip, Pacific, MO; Jason, Georgia and Heather and Joshua Ortlip, Nevada and Gretchen and Tessa Bridges-Clinton. She is survived by her two sisters and their husbands and families: Sharyn and Robert Otte and Sandy and Roy Judkins and their respective children. Bobby had numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. She is survived by her best friend and sister-in-the-Lord, Chris Watts. All of her family, church family and friends will deeply miss her. She has left a large space in their hearts that is filled with precious memory.
Services were Friday, April 12, in the First Christian Church, Osceola, with Rev. Jack Daniel and Rev. Peter Chei officiating. Music was by Kathy Brown, soloist and Mary Beth Greathouse, accompanist. Casketbearers were Jason Ortlip, Jeffrey Ortlip, Gregory Ortlip, Don Bridges, Bob Otte and Willis Bearder. Honorary casketbearers were Joshua Ortlip and Travis Ortlip. Interment was in the El Dorado Springs City Cemetery under the direction of the Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home.
