JOHN PAUL TUCKER
John Paul Tucker, 78, was born to James Allen Tucker and Ola Olive (Gump) Tucker, Feb. 7, 1924, near Weaubleau, on his Grandfather Gump's farm. He passed away May 3, 2002.
John Paul was united in marriage to Fern Louise Ozbun June 27, 1948. To this union they were blessed with three boys, John Allen, Paul Dwight and Gerald Ray. Paul Dwight was born April 26, 1956; he died at birth.
John Paul saw his need for a saviour in September 1963. He received Jesus Christ as his saviour at this time at Rob and Erma Criswell's house in Kansas City. He made his profession of faith in Jesus Christ public at Riverview Bible Church, shortly thereafter and was baptized. He has served the Lord in different churches and was presently attending Riverview Bible Church, rural Osceola.
Surviving John is his wife, Fern of 53 years, two sons, John Allen - Grandview and Gerald Ray and his wife, Beth Ann - Odessa. Grandchildren, Jason and wife, Kristina - Rolla, Ann and husband, Andrew Weiss - Independence, Lydia, Paul and Rachel - Odessa, one great granddaughter, Alayna - Independence, two brothers, Olin Tucker and wife, Darlene, - Loveland, CO; Al Tucker and wife, Lou, - Red Feather, CO; one sister, Nancy Claussen and husband, Rick, - Grand Junction, CO; One aunt, Jimmie Worthington - Nevada. He had several nieces and nephews that loved him dearly, several close cousins and a host of friends. He was a loving person that has always given of himself to others. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him.
John worked for Consolidated Freightways for 37 1/2 years. He served in the 14th Armored Division in the Army during WWII.
He ran all over the countryside with Tom Norris, after returning from the service, fishing and hunting. There were some good experiences and some not so good.
Services were held Wednesday, May 8 in Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel. Ministers were Pastor Albert Lee Venter and Pastor Don Barger. Music was "Weep No More" and "Calvary". Casketbearers were Jason Tucker, Bob Roberts, Darrell Haynes, Joe Norval, Adam Norris and Brian Dorge. Military services were by Alpha Team, Missouri National Guard. Internment was in Freeman-Holsapple Cemetery under direction of Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola.
EDNA MAY DAY
Edna May Day, 91, Odessa, died Friday, May 17, 2002 at the Christian Health Care Center in Nevada.
She was born August 14, 1910 in Odessa, the daughter of John Arthur Westerhold and Laura Ellen Murry Westerhold.
On Dec 9, 1936 she married Harvey Lee Day Sr. in Odessa. He preceded her in death on Oct. 5, 1992.
Edna worked for the United Telephone Systems as a telephone operator in Odessa, Warrensburg and Oak Grove. She retired on Aug. 31, 1972. Edna graduated from Odessa High School in 1929. Edna was a member of the First Baptist Church in Odessa and has been active in Sunday School and was a past member of the Rebecah's Lodge and Women's Progressive Farmers Assoc. of MO. She took an active leadership role in the Centerview 4-H Club and the Centerview Women's Extension Club.
Survivors include a daughter and husband, Mary and David Cassanover - Lee's Summit, three sons and spouses; Harvey Lee Jr. and Linda Day - Grandview, Leland D. and Danette Day - Nevada and William "Bill" and Genie Day - El Dorado Springs, grandchildren Eric, Jenny and Angie Day and Scott Cassanover.
Services were Monday, May 20, at the Ralph O. Jones Chapel with Rev. Terry Hodges officiating. Burial was in Odessa Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Harvey and Edna Day Education Grant. Pallbearers were Jerry Soendker, Joe Parshall, Dan Stubblefield, Buford Bayless, Dave Lindquist and Gene Ray Specker.
TERRY JOE RICHARDSON
Terry Joe Richardson, 57, Stockton, went home to be with his Lord and other loved ones on Sunday morning, May 19, 2002. He was born on August 7, 1944, the son of Joe and Hazel Bowen Richardson.
Terry grew up around Filley and was a graduate of the El Dorado Springs High School. Terry spent many years growing up in the home of his grandparents, Mollie and Louie Bowen, who he was very fond of.
For a number of years, Terry was employed by the K.A.T.Y. Railroad.
He is survived by his mother, Hazel Bowen Richardson - El Dorado Springs, Lana Richardson, five children, Billy Joe Richardson and his wife, Terri - Tennessee, Pamela Jo Lewis and husband, Bill - Tennessee, Todd Justin Richardson - Missouri, Christopher Joseph Richardson - Arkansas, Victoria Lynn Richardson - Arkansas; three step-children, Laura Ann White and husband, Mark, Pamela Kay Shaffer and husband, Greg and Karen Marie Lee and husband, DJ - all of Missouri, also surviving are his aunt, Peggy Oberly - Taberville, mother-in-law, Wilma Spencer - Stockton and brother-in-law, Sam Rosenbaum - Stockton; 4 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and 18 step-grandchildren.
Terry was preceded in death by his father, Joe Richardson - Kansas City and his grandparents, Louie and Mollie Bowen - Filley.
In the last days, when he was able, Terry went to church at the Church of God (Holiness) in Stockton. He enjoyed being with fellow Christians in God's house. Terry was at peace with the Lord and was ready to go home. He was in hope of seeing all his family and friends there.
Services began at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 22 at the Church of God (Holiness) in Stockton. Interment was in the Mound Cemetery under the direction of the Hackleman and Sons Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Jim Lurten, Ronnie Dearman, Gary Brahn, John Haslock, Christopher Richardson and Bill Lewis.
Honorary pallbearers - Gregg Shaffer and Sam Rosenbaum.
JESSE JAMES MUMAW
Jesse James Mumaw, 84, was born on September 27, 1918, the son of the late William and Isabelle F. Walker - Mumaw, In Mt. Jackson, VA. He passed away on May 22, 2002. Jesse is survived by wife, Bobbie - Goodman, MO and one sister, Ervie - Middletown, PA. He is preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.
Jesse served with the Army in Germany in WWII, discharged with honors, then worked with the Civil Service for 21 years at the Middletown, PA Air Depot.
Jesse had five children, - Almeda R, wife of Rev. Frederick L. Geib, - Silverdale, PA; Jesse W. Mumaw, and wife, Christine - Primm Springs, TN; Patsy M., wife of James B. Stokes Jr. - Mt. Joy, PA; Fonda G., wife of John Murphy, - Mt. Joy, PA; and Janet D., wife of Mark Keith, - Mt. Joy, PA.
Jesse was also the proud grandfather of 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Jesse was a past member of the Shriners and enjoyed taking children to be helped by the hospitals and doctors.
Jesse and Roberta (better known as Bobbie) were married on Nov. 28, 1999 in the Goodman Baptist Church. Bobbie brought to the marriage one daughter, Debbie Butters - West DesMoines, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Thursday, May 23, 2002 at the Lewis-Hoagland Funeral Home in Schell City with Rev. Bob Johnson officiating.
Cremation with interment of remains will follow at a later date.
JAMES HOWARD HARDIE
James Howard Hardie, 86, Independence, passed from our presence on May 11, 2002.
He was born to John William and Viola T. Hardie in Pittsburg, KS, in the year 1915. At a very young age, James and his parents relocated to Schell City, where he grew up and eventually met Dorothy Ellen Porter. They were united in marriage in 1940. Of this union was born their only child, James Kenneth Hardie, who preceded him in death in 1992.
James is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his brother, Henry Hardie; three grandsons - Randall Howard Hardie Sr., Kenneth Dean Hardie and John Martin Hardie, six great-grandchildren - Michael James Hardie, Randall Howard Hardie, Jr., Amy Leigh Hardie, Rane Tamrand Hardie, Trenton Blake Hardie and Cecily Elizabeth Hardie; one great-great grandson, Dakota Lee Hardie.
James was a retiree of Armco Steel after 34 years of service. Jim and Dorothy were both members of Little Blue Baptist Church in Kansas City for over 20 years.
Jim loved his home away from home in Indian Springs and enjoyed hunting and fishing for as long as his health permitted. We will all dearly miss him.
Services were held Wednesday, May 15, at the Lewis-Hoagland Funeral Home in Schell City, with Bro. David Daughenbaugh officiating. Pallbearers were Ken McCoy, B.D. Dickbreder, Bob Justice, Don Reed, Charles Harkness and Gene Porter. Interment was in the Green Lawn Cemetery, Schell City, under the direction of the Lewis-Hoagland Funeral Home. Of special mention as honorary pallbearers were; Randall, Kenneth and John Hardie.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Little Blue Baptist Church, 7119 Noland Rd., Kansas City, MO, 64136.
WILLIAM FRANKLIN SMITH
William Franklin Smith, 72, the only child born to the union of Walter Lee and Zula Franklin (Meyer) Smith, entered this world on Nov. 9, 1929, in rural Schell City.
Franklin attended and graduated from El Dorado Springs High School, one of the graduates of the Class of 1947. One June 5, 1949 he was united in marriage to Elma Irene McClanahan in Schell City. To their union five children were born - two sons and three daughters.
The family lived in the rural Schell City area where Franklin farmed the land and raised cattle to provide for his wife and children.
In the fall of 1951 he was baptized and became a member of the Schell City Christian Church. Through his love of the Lord, Franklin served the church in many capacities through the years including being a Deacon, Sunday School teacher and Sunday School Superintendent. During a time in his life Franklin also worked construction, helping build the Schell Osage Wildlife Area as well as working to develop the Truman Lake.
Franklin worked hard all of his life, always enjoying his farming and livestock. Franklin enjoyed life. He loved to fish, pick up pecans, play the guitar and spend time with his family. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be sadly missed by all who loved and knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Elma, of the home in Schell City; his five children, - Terry Smith, and his wife, Mary - Schell City; Kathie McWherter, and her husband, Ken - Noel; Daryl Smith, and his wife, Janet - Claremore, OK; Diane Eslinger, and her husband, Rick - Schell City; and Melissa Eiserer, and her husband, Hank - Carrollton, ten grandchildren - Mark Smith, Tereasa Gilmore, Krystal Fischer, Kasey McWherter, Zachary Smith, Dustin Smith, David Eslinger, Daniel Eslinger, Dana Eslinger and Brant Eiserer; nine great-grandchildren - Nathan and Dalton Smith, Riley McWherter, Jayce Smith and Kaylee, Logan, Bethany, Sydney and Dylan Eslinger; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends. Of special mention is a double cousin, Sharon Goodman.
Services were held Tuesday, May 28, at the Schell City Christian Church, with Bro. Monte Shoemake officiating. Musical selections were provided by Angela Scotten and Connie Gerster. Pallbearers were Sam Vantellman, Dennis Vantellman, Doug Vantellman, Grady Davis, Harvey Gerster and Ervin Goodman. Interment was in the Green Lawn Cemetery, Schell City. Memorial contributions are suggested to Schell City Community Betterment in care of the funeral home. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Lewis-Hoagland Funeral Home, Schell City.
ANGELA KAY SLOAN
Angela Kay Sloan, 32, El Dorado Springs, passed away on Saturday morning, May 25, 2002, at the Cedar County Memorial Hospital. She was born on June 25, 1969, in Kansas City, KS, the daughter of Roy E. and Dora Irene Bauer Morgan.
Angela was a loving mother, daughter and friend to everyone.
She is survived by her parents, Roy E. and Dora Morgan - El Dorado Springs, her children, Brandon Roy Wagers - Stockton, and his father, Bruce - Nevada; Randall Earl II and Christopher Ryan Toon, and their father, Randall I - Texas; Samuel Montana and Tyral Zachary Sloan, and their father, Jerry Ray - El Dorado Springs. Angela is also survived by three sisters - Sandra Modlin - Nevada, Kelly Pierce - Mount Washington, KY and Yvonna Christine Hooper - Sheldon; other relatives and friends.
Services began at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday morning, May 29, at the Hackleman Chapel with Rev. Terry Mosher officiating. Musical selections were provided by Mrs. Terry Mosher. Interment was in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery under the direction of the Hackleman and Sons Funeral Home.
