Jerry Lee Daugherty, 66

Jerry Lee Daugherty, 66, of Chadwick, passed away Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008, in Cox South Hospital, Springfield. He was born Feb. 12, 1941, in Sparta, the son of Earlin Daugherty and Geraldine (Applegate) Daugherty Holt. On Oct. 5, 1957, he was united in marriage to Viola Hull.

Jerry was a loving dad and grandpa who spent many hours hunting and fishing with his kids and grandkids. He especially enjoyed attending his grandkids’ baseball and basketball games and was an avid fan of the Chadwick teams where four of his grandsons played basketball. He always told several fond stories about hunting and fishing trips with longtime friends, Jimmy Workman, Dennis Sherman and Joe Fowler.

Jerry owned and operated Hill Top Lumber Company and for the past few years he drove a school bus for Chadwick school system. He was also an active member of Springfield Benchrest Rifle Club and Past Master of the Sparta Masonic Lodge # 296.

He was preceded in death by his father, stepfather Gene "Hoot" Holt, infant granddaughter, Ashley, and sister-in-law, Carolyn Daugherty.

Jerry is lovingly survived by his wife Viola; seven children, Denis Daugherty, Rhonda Maggard and husband, Eugene, Kurtis Daugherty and wife, Missy, all of Chadwick, Rachel Morrison and husband Bo, Robin Phillips and husband Jim, Kent Daugherty and Kirk Daugherty, all of Oldfield; his mother, Geraldine Holt, of Chadwick; one brother, Lionel Daugherty, of Ava; one sister, Lavonne Isaacs and husband, Tony, of Florida; 19 grandchildren, Brandy, Amanda, Candice, Caleb, Jayme, Jerry, Aaron, Lindsey, Austin, Kevin, Brandon, Megan, Blake, Brent, Brylee, Zachary, Taylor, Kaylee and Hunter; three great-grandchildren, Ethan, Hope and Gage; three nieces, Caron, Casey and Jenna; three nephews Jesse, Luke and Jared; other caring relatives and many good friends.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, in Bruner Cemetery with the Rev.. Carnel "Bally" Johnson officiating under the care of Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark. Visitation was held from 2 to 4 p.m., with Masonic rites at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, in Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark.

Claud James English, 69

Claud James English was born August 18, 1938, to Robert English and Nellie Hoskins in Plad, Mo. and passed away on February 18, 2008, in his home surrounded by family and friends.

Claud was baptized at an early age at the Plad Community Church. He served in United States Air Force from 1955 until 1959 as an Airman Second Class. He served a military tour in Turkey during his time of service.

Claud married Connie Wilson on October 28, 1962, in Carson City, Nevada. Claud and Connie made their home in Douglas County in 1973. They celebrated 45 years of marriage in October 2007.

Claud was a beloved husband, dad, brother, uncle, grandpa and great-grandpa, who loved to fish, bowl, swim, read and spend time with his family.

His father, mother and stepfather, Don Hoskins, and his sister Roberta Yunker preceded Claud in death.

Claud is lovingly survived by his wife, Connie; four children, Christine Bender and husband Christopher, Camarillo, Calif., Geri Mullen, Lee’s Summit, Mo., Crystal Sabas and her husband Ray, Warrensburg, Mo., Chad English and his wife Laverna of Norwood; 12 grandchildren, Jade, Ashley, Stephan, Janell, Brittany, Weston, Cameron, Trystan, Kaci, Dakoda, Savannah and Sydni; 4 great grandchildren, Levi, Hunter, London and Payden; his sister Ramona Pusich and husband John, Camarillo, Calif.; his brothers Daniel English and wife Jimmie, Kenai, Alaska, and Bob English of Porterville, Calif.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Memorial service will be held Saturday February 23, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Skyline Full Gospel with Pastor Wayne Pierson officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Associa¬tion or Community Hospice of Mountain Grove.

Wilson Eugene Williams, 67

Wilson Eugene Williams, the son of Carl Williams and Bonnie Williams (Fitzgerald), passed away at his home in Springfield, at the age of 67 years, 9 months and 11 days.

Wilson was a retired auto mechanic and lived in Springfield, for 12 years after moving from Ava. He loved to "play cars", going to eat at Ryan's, gambling and teasing his grand kids. Wilson ran several game rooms for many years in Ava, Miller, Ozark, Seymour and Gainesville.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Angela Williams, and a brother, Norman Williams.

Wilson is survived by his former wife, Julane Williams, of Ava, and their daughter, Cindy Luttrull, of Springfield; Joyce, Shawna and Belinda Herrell, of the home; two sisters, Roberta Hadeen of Sparta, and Dessie Ludwig, of Ava; five grandchildren; and numerous other family and friends.

Services will be held on Friday, Feb. 22, at 2 p.m., in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Joe Lafferty officiating. Interment will follow at the Smith Chapel Cemetery in Ozark County. A visitation is scheduled from 6 to 7 p.m. today (Thursday). Memorial donations can be made to the Humane Society or the Ronald McDonald House.

Stella F. Winters, 77

Stella F. Winters, the daughter of Frank Tennison and Maggie (Anderson) Tennison, was born Oct. 3, 1920, in Chandler, Okla., and departed this life Feb. 18, 2008 at the age of 77 years 4 months and 15 days.

Stella was a resident of Nixa, for the past 12 years, moving there from Ava. On Dec. 24, 1938, Stella and Robert C. Winters were united in marriage in Delta, Colo. Stella and Robert were blessed with two children. Stella was a housewife and worked on the ranches with her husband, Bob, driving cattle trucks and equipment trucks.

Stella was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Robert C. Winters, of the home in Nixa; two sons, Robert C. Winters Jr. and wife, Katherine, Rogersville, and Larry D. Winters and wife, Delene, Missoula, Mont.; seven grandchildren; seven great- grandchildren; four sisters, Ruby Brown, Long Beach, Calif., Fern Eades, state of Florida, Erma Lee Barnes, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Betty Teubner, Montrose, Colo.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be Friday, Feb. 22, at the Missouri Veteran Cemetery, Springfield. Memorials may be made to Life Outreach.

Local arrangements are under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.

Edith "Pauline" Chance, 81

Edith "Pauline" Chance, the daughter of Herman and Lois (Dunn) Whitaker, was born on Sept. 18, 1926, at Brown Branch, Mo. She departed this life Feb. 19, 2008, at Cox Hospital, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 8l years, 5 months and 1 day.

Pauline and Doyne Chance were united in marriage on Sept. 20, 1944, at Mtn. Home, Ark. They were married 43 years and together they operated a cattle farm in the Arno community, until their move to Ava in 1979.

Pauline attended Ava High School and was a member of the Arno General Baptist Church, and later attended Ava General Baptist Church.

Pauline loved her years growing up in the Brown Branch community. She loved sitting with her cousin Bill Whitaker each Sunday afternoon recalling their childhood and family memories. She also loved her daily phone conversations with special friends, Lena Pierce and Larry and Judy Adams. The Saturday visits by the Downs families was also one of her great enjoyments.

Pauline's pride and joy was her family and her little dog and special companion, Sassy. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was an accomplished painter and left many paintings for her family to treasure. She was a wonderful cook and could make the very best cream pies. Pauline was an avid reader and the historian of the family.

Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Doyne, and an infant great-granddaughter, Hannah Leigh Chance.

Her survivors include her son, Larry Chance and wife, Debbie, Ava; two grandchildren, Darin and Elizabeth Chance, Grain Valley, Mo., and Dustin and April Chance, great-grandson, Randy, and great-granddaughter, Natalie, due in April, all of Independence. All will miss their loving Grammy. Pauline had an extended family of caregivers, Deanna and Bobbie.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with Rev. Oren Alcorn, Rev. Robert Roberts and Rev. Mike Freeman officiating. Burial will follow in the Arno Cemetery.

Visitation will be Saturday 1:00 P.M. until service time. The family suggests remembrances to the Arno Cemetery Fund.

Lowell B. Stewart, 80

Lowell B. Stewart, the son of Homer Stewart and Martha Elizabeth (Nance) Stewart, was born May 19, 1927, in Elmo, Mo., and departed this life Feb. 7, 2008, at the age of 80 years 8 months and 18 days.

Lowell was a U.S. Army veteran, having served his country during World War II and the Korean Conflict.

Lowell was a life-long resident of the area. He attended church at Romance and Faith Life Church in Branson. Lowell was a minister and farmer. On Sept. 1, 1953 Lowell and June Daniel were united in marriage at Wasola. Lowell and June were blessed with four children.

Lowell was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed music and started playing the mandolin when he was 5 years old, and made mandolins by hand.

Lowell was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three brothers.

His survivors include his wife, June, of the home, Wasola; four children, Judy Horner, Forsyth, Lowell "Buddy" Stewart II, Wasola, Rebecca Creasy, Marshfield, and Daniel Stewart, Wasola; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Britzman, Jackson; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Stan Collins and Don Bradshaw officiating. Interment followed in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Wasola.

Visitation was Tuesday, from 6 to 7 p.m., in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, St. Jude's or Gideons International.

Ellis L. Giffin, 75

Ellis L. Giffin, son of Elmer and Irene (Huffman) Giffin, was born Jan. 9, 1933, near Ava, and died Feb. 10, 2008, at Jenks, Okla.

Ellis graduated from Ava High School and joined the Army after graduation. He served in Korea and worked for the United States Post Office as a rural mail carrier in Wichita, Kan., for 43 years. He took early retirement from the post office in 1990 to help his brother-in-law, Chuck, take care of sister Anna Jo who was dying of cancer.

Ellis got reacquainted with Dorothy Harnden Hunt at a high school reunion in Ava. They were married Aug. 18, 1995, and have lived in Jenks, Okla., to date. Ellis passed away at home on Feb. 10 after a lengthy bout with cancer.

He enjoyed family and friends but especially his grand- and great-grandchildren. He was an active member of Bethany Church in Broken Arrow, Okla.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two brothers, Marvin Giffin, Mansfield, and Norman Giffin, Seymour; a sister, Beverly Freeman, Neosho; one daughter, Cindy Miller, North Newton, Kan.; four great-grandchildren, Cheyene and Greg Frost, Cade Simons and Riley Sharp; and his step family, Mark and Mary Sharp, Justin and Anna Sharp, Brett and Drew Sharp, Kye and Julie Hunt Hudson, and Brad and Aubrey McKelvey Cameron Hunt.

He was preceded in death by both parents, his son, Dennis Van Giffin; a sister, Anna Jo Graves; brothers, Noel Giffin and Wayne Giffin; and a granddaugh¬ter, Stephanie Frost and stepson, David Hunt.

Leon Kelley, 73

Leon Kelley, of Tahlequah, Okla., was buried Feb. 6, at Forest Haven Cemetery in Tulsa, Okla. He died Feb. 1, 2008, in St. John's Hospital in Tulsa where he had been hospitalized since an automobile accident on Dec. 28, 2007.

Leon was born Jan. 16, 1935, in Theodosia, Mo., to Luie Kelley and Etta Mae Pellham Kelley. He graduated from Gainesville High School in 1952 and worked for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, Kan., several years before relocating to Oklahoma.

On July 3, 1972, he was married to Marcelleta Rogers Lewallen at Miami, Okla. They moved to the Tahlequah area in 1977. He worked for Synergy Gas and the Tahlequah Mill before beginning the long daily commute to the Danaher Corp., in Springdale, Ark., retiring in 2000.

He loved his family deeply and treasured the time spent with them. He gave each grandchild a special nickname so they'd know how special they were to him.

Leon enjoyed the outdoors and liked to fish and hunt. He also enjoyed trips to Ozark County, Hootin an Hollarin, high school reunions, family get-togethers, and renewing the many long-time friendships maintained through the years.

"Kelley", as he was known to family and friends, was an active member of the Valley Heights Free Will Baptist Church in Salina, Okla.

Preceding him in death were his parents, two infant brothers, Arnold and Eugene, and one sister, Oveta Clayton.

Survivors include his wife, Marcelleta, of the home; three daughters, Lynn Etta Bratcher and husband, Richard, of Springdale, Ark., Janice Kay Bennett and husband, John of Sand Springs, Okla., and Debbie Brunker and husband, Rodney, of Blanchard, Okla.; a son, Steve Lewallen and wife, Vicki, of Tahlequah, Okla.; two brothers, Don Kelley, of Sand Springs, Okla., and Doyle Kelley, of Ava; one sister, Mosolene Shaw, of Springfield; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many family members and friends.
