Dallas Eugene Cornelison, 67

Dallas Eugene Cornelison was born Feb. 28, 1940, in the Bruner community, the son of Elmo Elvis Cornelison and Ammie Francis (Swearengin) Cornelison, and departed this life Feb. 25, 2008 at the age of 67 years 11 months and 27 days.

Dallas was a resident of the Squires area for the past 18 years.

Dallas graduated from Ava High School and on April 8, 1958 Dallas and Leta Fae Lee were united in marriage at the First Baptist Church in Seymour. Dallas and Leta were blessed with four children.

Dallas was employed by General Dynamics Aircraft Co of Ft. Worth, Texas, and self-employed as a truck driver until retirement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, researching genealogy on the Internet, as well as spending time with his grandchildren.

Dallas was baptized in 1953 at Haskins Ford in Christian County and was Sunday school superintendent at Union Chapel Baptist Church in Webster County.

Dallas was preceded in death by his parents; twin children; a brother, Doris Ray Cornelison, and sister, Glenda Lee Etta Cornelison.

He is survived by, his wife, Leta Fae Cornelison, of the home; two children, Irene Lavon Cornelison and close friend, Leonard Hall, and Mancell Eugene and wife, Connie; three grandchildren, Candie Michelle Cunningham and friend Steve, Jeremy Michael Cornelison and Willie Eugene Cornelison; one great-grandchild, Colton Eugene Ray Wiles; 10 brothers and sisters and spouses, Carolyn and Floyd Lockmon Jr., Seymour, Willa and Gene Cook, Springfield, Jessie and Amanda Cornelison, Orlando, Fla., Gerald and Twyla Cornelison, Loris, S.C., Dell Cornelison, Loris, S.C., Gail and Bob Mazurek, Colorado, Laverne and Linda Cornelison, Springfield, Sherrill and Paul Luce, Springfield, Paulette and Rick Dorland, Springfield, and Dwayne and Leah Cornelison, Pleasant Hope; a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., today (Thursday) in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Ed Crabtree officiating.

Interment will follow in the Union Chapel Cemetery. Visitation was Wednesday, 6 to 7 p.m., in the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to American Diabetes

Family and friends are invited Thursday to the VFW Hall across from the post office in Ava for dinner and visiting from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Erma Cooper, 90

Erma Fay (Friend) Cooper passed away Friday, Feb. 22, 2008 at Heart of the Ozarks Health Care Center in Ava. She was 90 years old.

Erma was born in Thornfield, Mo., on March 15, 1917, the daughter of Harrison and Maude Friend.

She married Loyd Cooper on Jan. 2, 1932, at Hammond. To this union, five girls and two boys were born.

On Feb. 13, 1949, Erma was baptized at Hammond. She attended church at Hilltop until her health wouldn't allow her to go.

She loved to make quilts. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Mrs. Cooper is survived by her children, Pauline Adkisson and husband, Tom, of Springfield, Norma Steele, of Kansas City, Kan., Imogene Pierce and husband, Gene, of Lebanon, Sue Murphy and husband, Dwain, of Mountain Grove, Darrell Cooper and wife, Barbara, of Mountain Grove, and Harold Cooper and wife, Pam, of Thornfield; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren; three brothers and eight sisters.

Erma was preceded in death by her husband, Loyd; one daughter, Mona Foster; one grandson, Mark Stephen Foster; two sons-in-law; her parents; three brothers; and six sisters.

Funeral services for Erma Cooper were held Monday, Feb. 25, at 10 a.m., at Thornfield Chapel, with Stan Collins officiating.

Burial was in the Thornfield Cemetery.

Visitation was Sunday, Feb. 24, from 2 to 4 p.m., at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Gainesville.

Prentis E. Fry, 69

Mr. Prentis E. Fry, 69, of Ava, formerly of Ozark, passed away Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, in Cox South Hospital.

He was born June 18, 1938, in Ozark County to James and Alta (Loftis ) Fry.

On June 22, 1961, he was united in marriage to Fay Cox and to this union, two children were born.

Prentis was employed by the 3M Corporation of Springfield and retired after 27 years of service and dedication. Known for his kindness and care for others, Prentis was also a God loving man. He appreciated the blessings of living in the country where he was close to nature and taught his grandsons how to fish and hunt. Prentis also grew large vegetable gardens and shared his surplus with friends and family. Prentis was a quiet man but never met a stranger and will be always remembered as a happy-go-lucky man who loved his family and appreciated life.

Prentis is survived by his wife Fay; a daughter, Vickie Carey and husband, Wes, of Ozark; a son, Victor Fry, of Branson; one brother, Preston Fry, of Oklahoma; four sisters, Stella Hicks, of Idaho, Elenor Maine, of Arkansas, Doris Mackey, of North Carolina, and Rachel Pitts and husband, John Paul, of Ava; two grandsons, Matthew and James Kaiser; numerous other relatives and several caring neighbors and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 13, with Pastor James Eakins officiating, under the care and direction of Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark. Burial followed in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery, Ava. Visitation was held Wednesday, Feb. 13, from 1 to 2 p.m., in Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ozark.

Robert L. (Bob) Turner, 83

Robert L. "Bob" Turner, of Columbia, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008, at University Hospital in Columbia.

Robert Leonard, son of Chesley A. and Nora (Jennings) Turner, was born Dec. 3, 1924, in Noble in Ozark County.

In 1948, he married Bobbie Rene Jones who preceded him in death in 1955; in 1977, he married Dr. Ann Wilson who preceded him in death in 1989.

Mr. Turner graduated from Thornfield High School in May of 1943, and graduated from Missouri State University in Springfield in 1953, with a bachelor of science degree in agriculture. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving with The Mars Task Force in China, Burma, and India.

He had worked for a national pharmaceutical company with a territory north of the Missouri River, and worked as manager of the Animal Health Department of MFA, Inc. for six years. He then worked as national accounts manager for a company in California and was promoted to the regional sales manager over nine Midwest states. He later worked as director of regulatory legislation for Rochelle Laboratories in Washington, D.C. until his retirement in 1982.

He was a charter member and the first commander of VFW Post 5993 in Ava, and also the first member of Post 5993 to be elected as commander of the VFW 18th District. He was a life member of VFW Post 5993 in Ava, a member of the American Legion Post 112 in Ava, a life member of Military Order of the Cootie Post 15 in Lebanon, and life member of the Disabled American Veterans through Post 51 in Lebanon.

He was a member of the Brookfield Lodge #86, AM & FM, the Scottish Rite, Valley of Columbia, and Abou Ben Adhem Shrine of Springfield. He was also a member of B.P.O. Elks Lodge 594 in Columbia.

Survivors include four daughters, Carol Moore and husband, Robert, of Knoxville, Tenn., Nancy Turner, of Albuquerque, N.M., Linda Turner, of High Ridge, and Lori Fletcher and husband, Dennis, of Brookfield; four grandchildren, Rob Moore, of Asheville, N.C., Jodi Fletcher, of Kansas City, Duane Turner, of High Ridge, and Jill Fletcher, of Brookfield; a great-grandson, Trevor Peyton Turner, of High Ridge; and one brother, Clinton C. Turner and wife, Neva, of Ontario, Ore.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Judy Rene Turner; and two brothers, Orville M. Turner and Kenneth R. Turner.

A visitation will begin at 1 p.m. today (Thursday, Feb. 28) at Wright-Baker-Hill Funeral Home, Brookfield and the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 in the evening; a Masonic Service will begin at 6 p.m.

A memorial service led by VFW Post 5993 will be Saturday, March 1, at 11 a.m. at the VFW Hall in Ava.

Burial will be in Ava Cemetery in Ava and military honors will be rendered by VFW Post 5993.

Memorials to the American Cancer Society may be left at or mailed to Wright-Baker-Hill Funeral Home, P.O. Box 496, Brookfield, MO 64628.

Consuella Robinson, 89

Consuella (Gonsalez) Robinson, daughter of the late Ejino and Maximina (Vasquez) Gonsalez, was born March 12, 1918, in Topeka, Kan., and departed this life Feb. 12, 2008, at the age of 89 years and 11 months at the home of her daughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Roy Robinson (1974).

Survivors include her two daughters, Carmelita Tunstall, of Woodridge, Ill., and Mary Lou Buettgen of California; eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at St. Leo’s Catholic Church, Ava.

Burial will follow in Ava Cemetery.

Visitation will be today (Thursday) from 6 to 7 p.m. in Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.

Janet Mae Schroeder
(October 8, 1932 - November 10, 2011)

Janet Mae Schroeder, daughter of Henry E. and Alvena L. Neal, was born October 8, 1932, in Clearlake, Iowa.

She departed this life Thursday, November 10, 2011, at home in Diggins, Missouri, at the age of 79 years, 1 month, and 2 days.

On July 10, 1954, she was united in marriage to Melvin Eugene Schroeder of Diggins, Missouri, and together they shared fifty one years of marriage until Melvin’s death in 2005.

Her parents preceded her in death as well as her four sisters: Marjory Nyhus, Margrett Beard, Betty Demerritt, and Pat Bledsoe.

Janet is survived by her children, Joe Ellen Jones and her husband Jim, and Gregory Lynn Schroeder, all of Fair Grove, Missouri, David E. Schroeder and his wife Teresa of Springfield, Missouri, Julia Ann Smith and her husband Bobby of Diggins, Missouri, Paula Schroeder of Fordland, Missouri, Brian Schroeder of Seymour, Missouri; sixteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Janet’s parents and her four sisters moved from Clearlake, Iowa to a small farm near Mansfield, Missouri when she was thirteen years old where she attended Newton school and later Mansfield school. Janet briefly left the country life to experience city living in Chicago and later Kansas City, Missouri only return to the Ozarks where she met Melvin and together they raised six children. Melvin and Janet taught all the children to fish, garden, help on the farm and help Janet to pick blackberries of which she both sold and made delicious cobblers. Janet later introduced her grandchildren and great grandchildren to the same joys.

In her spare time, Janet enjoyed fishing, playing board games and puzzles, and having breakfast with friends. She was particularly proud of offering her home to family and friends to share birthdays, holidays, love and companionship. She took great pride in having developed a fruitcake recipe from which she would bake cakes for family and friends and distribute during Christmas holidays.

We celebrate Janet’s life and she will be forever loved by her family and everyone’s life she touched.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 15, 2011 in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Seymour, Missouri. Burial will follow in the Fordland Cemetery, Fordland, Missouri. The family will receive friends from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Monday evening in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Fordland Cemetery or Hospice Compassus in care of the funeral home at PO Box 366, Seymour, Missouri 65746. Arrangements are under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Seymour.

Jerry Lee Vonallmen, 60

Jerry Lee Vonallmen, the son of Estil Vonallmen and Ruby May (Montgomery) Vonallmen, was born July 10, 1947, in West Plains, and departed this life Feb. 13, 2008 at the age of 60 years 7 months and 3 days.

On April 7, 1968, Jerry and Sandra Sue Denton were united in marriage in West Plains. Jerry and Sandra were blessed with two daughters.

Jerry served his country with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War 1966 - l968. Jerry was employed as manager of the Wallace and Owens Grocery in Ava for many years. He was also pastor at Roy Union Church for 15 years. He enjoyed his church and preaching, playing with his granddaughter, being with his daughters and family. Jerry also enjoyed a good car trade.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Estil Vonallmen and Ruby May Montgomery Vonallmen Earls; his wife, Sandra Sue; and one brother, Billy Ray Vonallmen.

He is survived by his daughters, Melanie Lynn Whittaker and husband, Kelvin, Bradleyville, and Melinda Sue Hall and husband, Robert, Ava; one granddaughter, Hailey Sue Hall, Ava; his siblings, Shirley Earls, and husband, Jerry, West Plains, Doyle Vonallmen and wife, Juanita, Springfield, Dennis E. Vonallmen and wife Joyce, West Plains, Bonnie Caudel and her fiancé, James Matlock, Harrison, Ark.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, in the Ava Cemetery, with the Rev. Randy Dalton officiating. Services were under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with military service conducted by Ava V.F.W. Post 5993 and American Legion Post 112. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Gideons International.

Anthony Tony Barnum, 70

Anthony Tony Barnum, son of Clifford Eugene and Mary Marie (Novak) Barnum, was born May 25, 1937 in Douglas County and departed this life Feb. 19, 2008 at the age of 70 years, 8 months, and 24 days.

As a young man Tony served in the U.S. Navy and then worked for several years for Dayco. Most recently he enjoyed a good game of pool or could be found delivering meals to the sick or elderly through the "Meals on Wheels" program. He will be greatly missed.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents; wife Willa Mae Barnum; and one brother, Lavern "Barney" Barnum.

Survivors include one son, Mark Anthony Barnum, of Knob Knoster; four stepchildren, Carol June Gott, of Mansfield, Jimmy Johnson, of Ava, Joe Johnson, of Hartville, and Karen Turner, of Maysville; two brothers, Dale Barnum and wife, Yvonne, of Biloxi, Miss., and Earnie Barnum, of Ava; five sisters, Geraldine Walker, of Ava, Pat Szczechowski, of Marshfield, Maxine Turner, of Ava, Barbara Short, of Ava, and Mary Lee Myers, of Ava; one granddaughter, Abigail Mae Barnum, of Ava; and several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with burial in Ellison Cemetery. Visitation is from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Friends may call at the funeral home after 12 p.m. Friday.
