Joanna J. Cunningham, formerly of Bradleyville, died April 8, 2008 in De Soto, Mo., at the age of 94.
She was the daughter of Elmer and Grace Dale and was born on December 6, 1913 in Lipscomb, Texas.
She was the dear wife of the late Leslie Cunningham; beloved mother to Lynn (Jan) Cunningham of Hillsboro, Mo., Glenn (Linda) Cunningham of Willard, Mo., James Cunningham of Eagle Rock, Mo., and Dr. Lewis (Glenda) Cunningham of Mason, Ohio. She will also be remembered as a dear grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was a member of the Nazarene Church in Bradleyville, Mo.
Joanna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leslie; two sisters, Alice Murray and Claribel Lemons.
Visitation was Sunday, April 13, from 3 to 5 p.m. in Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava. Services were Monday, April 14, at 2 p.m. in the Nazarene Church in Bradleyville, with the Revs. Vernon Fuller and Ed Hunsaker officiating. Interment was in the Bradleyville Cemetery.

Norman E. Rippee, 79

Norman Eugene Rippee, of Shell Knob, Mo., died on April 2, 2008, at Cox Hospital Walnut Lawn after a short illness.
Norman was born on May 29, 1928, in Sweden, Mo., to Willie and Alta Rippee.
He is survived by three sisters, Lola Anderson of Porterville, Calif., Darlene Rippee Olah, of Las Vegas, Nev., and Marlene Martensen, of Shell Knob, Mo.; and two brothers, Billy D. Rippee, of Springfield, and Robert R. Rippee, of Williston, Tenn.; and a host of family and friends.
Norman grew up in Douglas County, where he attended elementary school. One of his favorite schools was Excelsior School, near Sweden. The Rippees moved to Mountain Grove, in 1941, where Norman attended high school.
Norman was a rural mail carrier in Mountain Grove. He worked in California at Leisure World for a number of years before returning to Missouri where he completed nurses training. He was a licensed practical nurse for several years in West Plains and surrounding areas.
Norman was a devoted outdoorsman. He enjoyed the lake area at Shell Knob. He loved country music, gardening, movies, and bluegrass music shows.
Norman enlisted in the Marine Corps in October 1950. He served his country in the Korean War where he was decorated for heroism. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant and later served as a drill instructor for the Marine Corps. He was so proud to be a Marine!
Visitation was at the Fohn Funeral Home in Shell Knob on Sunday, April 6, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. with a VFW presentation at 5:30 p.m.
Burial was in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield on Monday, April 7, 2008 at 10 a.m., under the direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob.
Kenneth Moxley, 96

Kenneth Moxley, age 96, passed away on April 3, 2008, after a joyful and fulfilled life.
Kenneth was born in John's Mill, Douglas County, Missouri on Oct. 21, 1911, to John and Liza Moxley.
Kenneth is preceded in death by his wife, Vernice Moxley of 54 years; son, Harrold Moxley and grandsons, Steve Bland, Jerry Moxley and Eddie Moxley.
He is survived by son, Leonard and Mona Moxley; daughters, Gene and Glenn Geist, Taylor and Jim Hart, Chris and Larry Sawyer and Donna Benigno; 16 grandchildren, and several great- and great-great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Home, Fresno, Calif., on Thursday, April 10, 2008, from 4 to 7 p.m.
A graveside Service will be held at Newcastle Rocklin Cemetery on Friday, April 11, 2008, at 11:30 a.m.

Beverly Ann Howe-Merrill, 47

Beverly Ann Howe-Merrill, the daughter of Charles "Bud" Howe and Betty Jane (Lenaburg) Howe, was born Sept. 20, 1960, in Clinton, Okla., and passed away on April 6, 2008, at the home of her parents in Ava, Mo.
Beverly lived in Ava from 1960 to 1975 at which time the family moved to Tallahassee, Fla. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1978. Feeling the urge to travel, she then lived in Alexandria, Monterey, Key West and Maui. In the early summer of 1991, Bev and her brother, Brian, headed to Alaska to "see the sights." They traveled through many western states and Canada and settled in Juneau when their traveling money ran out. Beverly continued her travels and moved back to Maui, where she lived until 1996. She then returned to Juneau and started working for the Alaska Marine Highway System.
In 2002, Beverly met her soon-to-be husband, Paul Merrill, who was a Deck Officer on the State Ferries. They were wed in Maui on April 29, 2006. They made their home in Bellingham, Wash.
In their short, but precious time together, they shared many memories. Diagnosed with breast cancer in February 2005, Beverly fought a gallant battle and never complained. She made the best of all the time she had traveling, visiting friends and family who she cherished above all else. She was a friend to all that knew her, and was loved by everyone. She will be missed deeply.
Beverly is survived by her husband, Paul, of Bellingham, Wash.; her parents, Charles (Bud) and Betty Howe, of Ava, Mo.; three brothers, Robert Howe and wife, Kathy, and children, Amy and Calen, of Morrisville, Mo., Brian Howe his wife, Michelle, and daughters, Jennifer and Erin of Anchorage, Alaska, and Barton Howe and his wife, Debbie, and son, Tyler, of Warrensburg, Mo.
In keeping with Beverly's wishes, she will be cremated and her ashes will be spread in Maui, Hawaii. A celebration of her life is planned for 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2008 at the home of her parents in Ava, Mo. Friends of the family are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Beverly to Ava's Neighbor Helping Neighbor in c/o of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO.
Lloyd Wayne Moore, 78

Lloyd Wayne Moore, 78, of Nixa, went into the open arms of his Savior Wednesday, March 26, 2008.
He was born Feb. 9, 1930, in Mansfield the son of Oscar and Ruth (Davis) Moore.
He served his country as a U.S. Marine.
On Sept. 9, 1950, he and Yvonne Haskins were united in marriage.
Mr. Moore was a retired builder and carpenter. He was a member of Nixa Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include his wife, Yvonne; three sons, Kenneth and wife Twila and their sons, Tyler and Austin; Terry and his son, Trey and wife, Jill; and Jeffrey and wife, LeAnn, and their sons, Lucas and Lance; two brothers, Delbert, Springfield, and Robert, of Ava; two sisters, Ruby Buchanan, and Virginia Linder, both of Ava; and two half brothers, Harold and Roy.
His parents preceded him in death as well as a brother, Clifford.
A graveside funeral was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 29, in McConnell Bledsoe Cemetery, Nixa, under direction of Adams Funeral Home.
Vernon "Butch" Roberts
(October 23, 1967 - October 31, 2011)
Vernon Lewis Roberts was born on October 23, 1967, in Rock Island, Illinois, to Kenneth Lee Bennett and Shirley Charlene Roberts.
On October 31, 2011, the good Lord called Vernon home at the age of forty-four years and eight days.
Butch, as he was known to family and friends, was born and raised in Rock Island, Illinois. He moved to the Seymour area in 2006 to be near his family. Butch was a custodian for Mark of the Quad Cities, and Marshfield’s Webco Manor. He cared for others and was always willing to lend a hand to help.
A life full of simple pleasures that brings a smile to the hearts of those left behind; Butch treasured the important things, family and friends. BBQ’s, Country music, and playing guitar, he lived each moment to its fullest. Family- those God gave him and those he brought into that loving circle, will never forget the love he gave so freely. Although he never had children of his own, Butch loved his nieces and nephews wholeheartedly.
He is preceded in death by his father Kenneth Bennett; his mother Shirley Roberts; his maternal and paternal grandparents; and his sister Tammy Roberts.
Butch is survived by his two faithful dogs Lucy and Lazy; his sisters Stephanie Oxenreider and husband Michael of Seymour, Missouri, and Cindy Ayers of the State of Virginia; his nieces Nichole Bennett, Shea Ward, and Tamra Reeves; his nephews Steven Bennett, Timothy Reeves, all of Seymour, Missouri, and Brandon Sproul of Marshfield, Missouri; his great-nieces Allie and Callie Pickett, Alivia Bennett, and Joy McDonald; his great-nephew Bryson Pickett, all of Seymour, Missouri; along with several aunts and uncles; and special friends Todd Danner and family, Danny Niner, and John Sproul.
Vernon "Butch" Lewis Roberts was a loving son, uncle, nephew and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and accomplishments, and although we will miss him, we will never forget the loving memories he created.
The family of Vernon "Butch" Roberts will have a memorial services at New Beginnings Church, Monday, November 14, 2011 at 5p.m. The family would like to thank you for your prayers and encouragement.
Therman E. Miller, 80

Therman E. Miller, 80, of LeClaire, Iowa, died Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at the Riverview Manor Nursing Home in Pleasant Valley, Iowa.
He was born Sept. 10, 1927, in Brixey, Mo., the son of Claude and Doshia (Leek) Miller.
Therman married the former Virginia Smotherman on March 8, 1952, in Yellville, Ark.
She preceded him in death on April 21, 1998. Therman was employed at the Rock Island Arsenal as a drawbridge operator. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a former member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Davenport.
Surviving are his daughter, Gwen Dykes of LeClaire; a son, Dennis Miller of Stone Lake, Wisc.; grandchildren, Lisa (Pat) O'Connor and Matthew and Christopher Dykes, all of LeClaire; a sister, AIlie (Henderson) Gentry of Ava; brothers, Lavern (Jessie Mae) Miller of Willow Springs, Dorman (Song) Miller of Bettendorf, Iowa, Willis (Sandy) Miller of DeWitt, Iowa, and George (Deanna) Miller of Greyling, Mich.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son-in-law, Terry Dykes, sisters, Geneva Miller and Ola Jane Dubil, and a brother, Marvin Miller.
Services for Therman were held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Heesch Funeral Home, LeClaire. Burial was in Glendale Cemetery in LeClaire. Memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice.
Bernard Charles McDermaid, 92

Bernard Charles McDermaid died March 25, 2008, at his home near Cabool. He was the third child and only son of Agnes (Rogers) McDermaid and Stephen James McDermaid.
He was born on Oct. 28, 1915 at the family homestead near Caputa, S.D.
Friends and relatives called him "Mac" or "Bernie." He was an expert in many types of technical work. His underground mining experience and pipe-fitting training led to underwater demolition for the United States Navy during World War II. Veteran's training gave him expertise in vehicle repair and he owned shops in California and Colorado, wildcatted for oil in Texas, and practiced forestry for the Missouri Department of Conservation from which he retired in 1977. His favorite occupation was that of farmer/dairyman and rancher. His first farm south of Mtn. Grove in the rural Ozarks was a dairy farm where he settled in the 1950s and his last ranch was his home near Cabool.
Bernie's long history of farming and ranching in Missouri was the result of his love for animals, especially horses.
At nearly 93 years of age, this kind-hearted man continued to enjoy the friendship of the people he met during his more than fifty years in Missouri, to care for his home place, and to shelter and care for his many horses and dogs.
Bernie was the last member of his immediate family. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Willie (Hedgecoke) McDermaid; and by four sisters and their husbands: Hazel and Clifford Schrader, Nellie and Raymond Roberts, Blanche and Ervin Hermann, and Ruth Rochelle.
He is survived by his two step-sons, James Barrett and Bill Barrett; several nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends who will miss him very much.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, April 1, at 2 p.m., in the Denlow Cemetery with the Rev. Gail "Bud" Scherer officiating. Full military honors were given at the cemetery by The American Legion Post 30 and The Lima Team Burial Detail with Jared Moore serving as bugler. Burial was in the Denlow Cemetery under the direction of the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mtn. Grove.
