Donald Lawrence Grimes, 20, of Mansfield, died March 30, 2005, in Ava from injuries received in an automobile accident.
Donald was born Nov. 26, 1984, in Lebanon, to Mary Candler.
“D”, as he was known, had lived the last 10 years in Grovespring and the Mansfield area, as well as attending the Mansfield Schools.
He was a member of the Mansfield Christian Church and loved herpetology, where he studied and collected reptiles with his two best friends, David and Terry.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, William Candler.
He is survived by his parents, Mary and Bobby Hash, of Mansfield; one brother, William Hash; and two sisters, Rachel Hash and Josie Dunham, all of Mansfield; maternal grandmother, Audrey Candler, of Lebanon; and his two best friends, David Hall and Terry Candler.
Services were held Sunday, April 3, in Holman-Howe Chapel in Lebanon.
Francis E. (Bud) Miller, 76

Bud Miller was born the son of Paul and Georgia Chaffee Miller on Jan. 11, 1929, in Ben Davis, Mo., and departed this life in Springfield on April 2, 2005, at the age of 76.
Bud was always looking for new adventures in life, trying many hats and enjoying them all. He owned and operated his own tire shop, sold real estate, was airport manager at Ava airport for six years, was a private pilot, and an accomplished musician, playing big band music, and all his jobs were things he loved to do. Playing big band music, flying and taking people up and around Ava, and traveling in general.
Bud attended First General Baptist Church in Ava.
Bud and Ruth E. Smith were married in Michigan in 1949 and to this union, four children were born.
Ruth preceded him in death in 1988.
In 1989, Bud met and married Peggy Allison who survives and lives in Ava.
Also surviving are his sons, Steve and his wife, Carol Miller, North Port, Fla., Daniel and wife, Sofia Miller, Salisbury, N.C., David Miller and his fiancée, Karen Johnson, Branson; one daughter, Nancy and her husband, Steve Borner, Naples, Fla.; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four stepchildren, Doug and wife, Camille Scott, Sycamore, Ill., Donald Scott, Chicago, Ill. Steve and wife, Kathy Scott, Knob Noster, and Kim and husband, Stan Humbyrd, of Ava; five step-grandchildren; and two sisters, Enola Grimstead and her husband, Bob, of Mtn. Home, Ark., and June Johnson, of Ava.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Ruth.
Memorial services for bud Miller were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Robert Roberts officiating and the eulogy by the family.
Grace Lou Gunkel, 80

Grace Lou Gunkel, daughter of Henry and Nettie Henry Beach, was born Jan., 15, 1925, in Beggs, Okla.
She departed this life Sunday, April 17, 2005, in St. John’s Hospital in Springfield at the age of 80.
On Sept. 24, 1940, she was united in marriage to Melvan Gunkel, and to this union, two daughters and three sons were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvan, on Oct. 7, 1994; a brother; and a sister.
Grace is survived by three sons, William Gunkel, of Ava, Dale Gunkel, and his wife, Trudy, of Cassville, and David Gunkel, of Mansfield; two daughters, Wanda Montoya and her husband, John, of Merced, Calif., and Linda Gunkel, of Mansfield; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Arthur Beach, of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Manuel Beach, of Tulsa, Okla.; two sisters, Edith Lindley, Oklahoma City, Okla., and Thelma Bukovac, of the state of Pennsylvania; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was born and raised in Oklahoma.
After she and Melvan were married, they made their home in Oklahoma until moving to California in 1951. While in California, she and Melvan operated a dairy farm, and lovingly began raising their family. In August 1972, the family moved to Missouri where Grace and Melvan continued in the dairy farming business. Throughout the years, Grace was always a devoted homemaker to her family.
Grace had made her profession of belief in Christ and followed the Pentecostal faith. She had been a Sunday school teacher for several years.
In her spare time, she enjoyed going to yard sales.
Her family was very important to her and she especially enjoyed all of her grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, at Denney Cemetery in Douglas County with the Rev. William Gunkel officiating.
Interment was under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Mansfield.
Shirley Laura Crouse, 86

Shirley Laura Crouse, 86, of Tulsa, died Tuesday, April 12, 2005, in St. John Medical Center.
She was born in Squires, Mo., Oct. 23, 1918, to William Orley and Laura Olivia (Bellinger) Brazeal.
She married Levi Ely, Oct. 23, 1936, in Squires. He died Dec. 20, 1968.
She married Vernon Crouse, Oct. 13, 1955, in Wichita, Kans. He also preceded her in death.
She was the ultimate homemaker who was always taking care of her children, family, and many of the children in her neighborhood. She loved people and they could see that in her life and in the way she treated them.
She was always smiling. She belonged to Highland Park Free Will Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and was involved in the Ladies Auxiliary.
She was predeceased by her parents, husbands, three daughters, Juanita Ely, Julia Whatley, and Barbara Carpenter, and five brothers, Maurice, Milton, "Gran," Vernon and Paul.
She is survived by four sons, Carl Ely and his wife, Ona, of Stillwater, Roy Allen Ely and his wife, Sun Hwa, of Olympia, Wash., Charles Ely and his wife, Vickie, of Montana, and Bruce Crouse of Stillwater; three daughters, Loretta Carr of Bowie, Md., Linda Goforth of Tulsa, and Wanda Goforth and her husband, Harvey, of Cushing; numerous grandchildren; and great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ernest Brazeal, Adrian, Mo., Joseph Brazeal, of Tucson, Ariz., and LZ Brazeal, of Kansas City, Kans.; and two sisters, Sarah Boles, of Georgia, and Juanita Nuss, of Missouri.
Services were in Strode Funeral Home Chapel, Friday, 2 p.m.
Dr. Norman Richmond officiated.
Interment was in Tryon Cemetery.
Strode Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Owens, the daughter of Claud E. Gaulding and Amy (Small) Gaulding, was born Dec. 6, 1923, in Gainesville, Mo., and departed this life April 9, 2005, at the age of 81 years.
Mary was a resident of Ava since 1946.
Mary and Leonard Samuel Owens were united in marriage Oct. 8, 1942, in Ava, and to this union, two children were born.
Mary was a housewife and helped her husband operate the All Night Station for 40 years. She also taught for a short time in a one room school house in Ozark County.
Mary was a member of the First General Baptist Church in Ava and the Ava Chapter #47 Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She looked forward to the great-grandchildren invading her house after school and going to their ballgames. She also enjoyed working in her flower garden and helping her church family.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Mrs. Lena Wallace; one brother, John Randolph Gaulding; a grandson, Mark Kyle Owens; and her husband, Leonard Samuel Owens.
She is survived by two children, Larry Owens and wife, Vicky, and Cheryl Hopper and husband, Bill, all of Ava; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Leta Rose, Kansas City, Mo., Ellen Dye, Broken Arrow, Okla., and Mona Decker and husband, Max, Ava; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 12, in the First General Baptist Church, in Ava, with the Rev. Robert Roberts officiating.
Interment was in the Ava Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the First General Baptist Church Building Fund, Community Hospices of America, or Neighbor Helping Neighbor.

Joseph Willard Michael Lansdown, son of Roger and Kathy Nelson Lansdown, was born Sept. 25, 1987, in Springfield.
He departed this life Wednesday, April 6, 2005, in Cox Medical Center South, Springfield, from injuries received in an automobile accident, at the age of 17.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Richard Monroe Lansdown; his maternal grandfather, Jerry Nelson; and his paternal grandparents, Harold “Rattler” and Annette Mae Lansdown.
Joe is survived by his mother, Kathy Nelson, and her companion, Louis Matney, of Seymour; his father, Roger Lansdown and his wife, Katherine, of Mansfield; four sisters, Annette Ramsey, Mansfield, Brandy Jackson, Seymour, D.J. Luckey, Mtn. Grove, and LeAnna Elliott, Ava; two brothers, James Allen Clark, Springfield, and Nathan Allen Clark, Ava; several nieces and nephews; his maternal grandparents, Bonnie and James Sallee, Ava; his paternal grandmother, Earline Lansdown, Norwood; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends.
He was born in Springfield and was raised in Ava, Seymour and Mansfield, where he attended school. For the last couple of years he had worked at collecting and trading reptiles.
Joe had attended the General Baptist Church in Ava when he was a child.
In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, racing cars, and collecting snakes and alligators. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time with them.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 9, at Holman-Howe Chapel, Mansfield, with the Rev. Robert Roberts officiating.
Interment was in Mansfield Cemetery.
Eva Barbara Kinney, 97

Eva Barbara Kinney, 97, Ava, passed away at 5:40 a.m. Sunday, April 10, 2005, in Glenwood Health Care Center, Seymour.
She was born June 26, 1907, in Ogdensburg, Wisc., to Charley and Minnie (Frank) Jasman.
On May 8, 1936, she married Myron Nathaniel Kinney in Los Angeles, Calif.
Eva was a caring and sensitive woman who devoted her life to caring for her family. She loved gardening, enjoyed planting flowers, and cooking meals for family and friends. She attended the Sandy Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Myron Kinney, a son, Wilfred Allen Kinney, two brothers and two sisters.
Eva is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Case and husband, Bill, of Ava; daughter-in-law Diane Kinney, also of Ava; sister Esther Prill, of Manawa Wisc.; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and other loving family.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, in Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Frances Humbyrd officiating. Burial followed in the Ava Cemetery.

Sgt. Victor C. Davidson, 86

Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather went to be with his Lord, Feb. 17, 2005, surrounded by his loving family.
Victor was the fourth child born to William and Ethel Davidson in McClurg, Mo., Nov. 9, 1918. He served in the U. S. Army Air Corps from Oct. 29, 1942 to Nov. 10, 1945.
Victor moved to Selah in March 1946.
He was united in marriage to Lena Boggs, July 3, 1947.
He is survived by his wife, Lena; sister, Erma Siler; four children, son, Don Davidson and his wife, Sue, daughter, Sharon Young and husband, Jerry, daughter, Marie Cooper and husband, Bill, and daughter, Ethel Whitehouse and husband, Don; seven grandchildren and their spouses; and seven great-grandchildren.
Victor was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ethel Davidson; brother, Archie Davidson; and sister, Opal Potter.
Victor was a fruit orchardist for over 25 years and later retired from Ross Packing in 1973. He loved working in his garden and yard and really had a green thumb. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing pool, cards, and most of all, being with family and friends.
Victor was everyone's friend. He will be sorely missed by his family and many friends.
Funeral services were held at Shaw and Sons Funeral Directors, Feb. 22, 2005, with concluding services at Terrace Heights Memorial Park.

Bobbie Jo Gillespie, 60

Bobbie Jo Gillespie, daughter of R. F. "Bob" Spurlock and Vergie Walker Spurlock, was born on April 20, 1944, in Ava, and passed away on April 10, 2005, in Springfield, Mo., at the age of 60 years.
Bobbie Jo was a lifelong resident of Ava. She worked at the Ava Rawlings Sporting Goods for 22 years.
On March 25, 1966, Bobbie Jo and Fred Gillespie were united in marriage in Ava, and to this union, one son was born.
She enjoyed camping and canoeing and loved her pets and being with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Robert Spurlock; two sisters, Norma Lou Rymer and Elsie Coy; and two half brothers, Burney and John Turner.
She is survived by her husband, Fred Gillespie, of the home in Ava; one son and spouse, Justin and Patricia Gillespie, Ava; two granddaughters, Amy Lynn and Sarah Jo Gillespie, Ava; three sisters, Geraldine DeGase, Ava, Elizabeth Guthery and husband, Delmar, Ava, and Fay Ford, Chatsworth, Calif.; two half brothers, Howard Spurlock, Springfield, and Norman Spurlock, Iowa; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Memorial services are Friday, April 15, 6 p.m., in the Clinkingbeard Chapel, Ava, with the Pastor Wayne Pierson officiating.
Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Cora Eileen Wendland, 62

Cora Eileen Wendland, 62, Ava, passed away Monday, April 18, 2005, in Cox South Hospital, Springfield.
She was born Oct. 25, 1942, in Centerville, Iowa, the daughter of Glen and Mildred Frances (Baker) Clancy.
On April 24, 1964, she was united in marriage to Charles Wendland in Lincoln, Neb., and this union was blessed with two wonderful children.
Eileen was employed by the Douglas County Health Department/Home Health Care Agency as a health care provider since the agency opened approximately 30 years ago.
Eileen's kind and caring manner was renowned throughout the agency, as well as the community at large. She performed her duties never drawing attention to herself, was very attentive to details, provided assistance to the needy, made phone calls of reassurance to anxious clients, and always prided herself with the quality of her work.
Eileen was a loving and wonderful mother, grandmother, and a devoted caring wife. For her children, she eased the transition from mother to friend with great love and made lasting memories. She was "everyone's glue" always holding everything together while extending her gracious hospitality and love. Eileen's tiny frame measured 4 feet 11 1/2 inches and she always wanted to be 5 feet tall, but to her family and friends she measured 10 feet tall.
Eileen embraced the Baptist faith as a member of the First General Baptist Church, Ava. She depended on her faith for her spiritual and social life, always demonstrating her love for Christ with compassion and encouragement.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
Eileen is survived by her loving husband of 40 years Charles "Chuck" Wendland; son Charles "Flint" Wendland and wife Staci of Bolivar, Missouri; daughter LaDonna McVay and husband Mark of Warren, Arkansas; two sisters Kathyrn Batterson and husband Max of Unionville, Iowa, and Rose Green and husband Jim of Centerville, Iowa; nine grandchildren; nieces, nephews, several co-workers and many loving friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today (Thursday, April 21) in the First General Baptist Church, Ava, under the care and direction of Barnes Family Funeral Home, Ava, with Rev. Robert Roberts officiating.
Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, in Exline Cemetery, Exline Iowa.
