Benny F. Pool, the son of George W. Pool and Maggie L. Hicks Pool, was born May 7, 1937 in Drury, Mo., and departed this life Aug. 4, 2008 in his home at the age 71 years 2 months and 27 days.
On April 4, 1989, Benny Pool and Twyla (Adams) Bunnell were united in marriage in Davenport, Iowa.
He was employed as a warehouseman with the John Deere Company for 30 years. For the past 15 years, he was a resident of Ava, and played with Booger County Bluegrass until his health failed.
Benny was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Benny was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Glen and Buck; two sisters, Hazel Bushong and Irene Strong; four nephews and two nieces.
He is survived by his wife, Twyla, of the home in Ava; three stepchildren and their spouses, Ronda and Brian Harvey, Rick and Cara Bunnell, and Rod and Kerrie Bunnell, all of Iowa; 10 grandchildren; one brother, Gene and Rheba Pool, Ava; four sisters, Midge Berry, Gainesville, Veda Bushong, Ava, Juanita Kazenske, Silvis, Ill., and Jo and John Stephens, Ava; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Dennis Shumate officiating.
Interment will follow in the Eaton Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
Military service will be by the American Legion Post 112 and VFW Post 5993.
Memorials may be made to the Eaton Cemetery, the American Cancer Society or Community Hospice.
Frances Julianne Campagna, 85

Frances Julianne Campagna, the daughter of John Arganek and Minnie (Klinchek) Arganek, was born March 9, 1923 in Milwaukee, Wisc., and departed this life Aug. 2, 2008, at Heart of the Ozarks Healthcare, Ava, at the age of 85 years 4 months and 23 days.
On Sept 13, 1957, Frances and August Anthony Campagna were united in marriage in Milwaukee, and to this union, a son was born.
Frances was employed as bookkeeper with Harley Davidson Motorcycle Company.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, John Arganek Jr.; and two sisters, Marian Kittel and Marlene Wells.
Her survivors include one son, Nick Campagna, Dewey, Okla.; a niece, Chris Fontaine, Naples, Fla.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with Deacon Joe Kurtenbach officiating.
Interment will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Milwaukee, Wisc., at a later date.
Verda Florence Burleson Hartley, 88

Verda Florence Burleson Hartley, a native of Douglas County, passed away on July 26, 2008, at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Wichita, Kan., at the age of 88.
She was born on April 29, 1920, near Tigris to Decatur "Dee" and Ida Florence Dilbeck Burleson.
Verda was one of eight children in the Burleson household.
Preceding her in death were her parents and all seven siblings: three brothers, Arthur, Robert, and Wayne, and four sisters, Ruby Philpott, Jessie Johnson, Rose Buchanan, and Elsie Miller.
On Feb. 7, 1942, Verda married Eldon Hartley from the Arden community.
They were married 58 years before his death in the year 2000. The couple had three sons, all of whom survive the couple: Raymond and wife, Rose, of Wichita; Jerry and wife Linda of Edmond, Okla., and Gary and wife Jennifer of Wichita. She had 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a special sister-in-law, Dochia Hartley Elenbarger, of Kansas, Okla.
For many years, Verda was a faithful member of the Christian Chapel Foursquare Church in Wichita.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 30, at Smith Mortuary in Derby, Kan. Burial was in White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Wichita.
Memorials can be made to the Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
John F. Childress, 83

John Franklin Childress was born May 26, 1925, the son of John Franklin Childress and Doris E. Ellison Childress, and departed this life July 24, 2008, at the age of 83 years 1 month and 28 days.
John was a resident of Mtn. Grove, for the past 14 years moving from Fordland.
John and Sylvia Engelhardt were united in marriage on July 3, 1947 in Tulsa, Okla. John and Sylvia were blessed with two children.
John was a member of the Baptist Church, the Ava V.F.W. and Douglas County American Legion.
He served his country during WWII with the U.S. Army. John was a beef farmer.
John was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Creed and a daughter, Christina. His survivors include one son, Eddie and Jalane Childress, Warsaw; three grandchildren, Ed and Denise, Dwight and Tracy, Dewayne and Angie; five great-grandchildren, Cameron, Emily, Hailey, Seth and Maddux; and a host of relatives and friends.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 28, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with Ed Childress, Eddie Childress, Dwight Ipock and Dewayne Ipock officiating.
Interment followed in the Ellison Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Ellison Cemetery.

Daniel ‘Pat’ Dobbins, 72

Daniel W. "Pat" Dobbins, 72, of East Moline, Ill., died Monday, Aug. 18, 2008, at Trinity Pathway Hospice, Bettendorf, Iowa.
Pat was born April 2, 1936, in Ava, to Daniel and Inez Rowe Dobbins. He married Irene Wininger on Jan. 1, 1991, in East Moline. Pat was an Army veteran.
Pat was owner and founder of Roadside Auto, Inc., and Dobbins Rental, Inc., for 43 years. He worked at John Deere prior to his ownership.
He was national president for NIADA and was an active member at Heritage Wesleyan Church, Rock Island.
He loved to travel, camp and enjoyed family gatherings and birthday parties.
He is survived by his wife, Irene; children, Frankie J. (Susan) Dobbins, Richard Dobbins, John (Marie) Dobbins, Brent (Iris) Boehnke, Lisa (Steven) Pienta, Dana Dobbins, Rachel (Shane) Munson; daughter-in-law, Julie Blood; grandchildren, Jimmy, Sean, Bradie, Jennifer, Ryan, Ethan, Krystin, Alex, Kirstie, Nick, Tyler, Natalie, Alys, Dylan and Dale; one great-grandchild, Logan; father, Daniel Dobbins; siblings, Annalee Pratt, Jerry Dobbins, Ralph Dobbins and Mary Ziegler; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Inez; and son, David.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, at Heritage Wesleyan Church, Rock Island, Ill.
Entombment was at Greenview Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum, East Moline, Ill., under direction of Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory.
Lowell F. Jordison, 94

Lowell F. Jordison was born Feb. 23, 1914, in Coalville, Iowa, the son of William C. Jordison and Flossie E. (Enfield) Jordison.
Lowell went to his heavenly home on Aug. 21, 2008 at Heart of Ozarks Healthcare Center, Ava, Mo., at the age of 94 years.
On Feb. 14, 1936 Lowell and Ann D. Wentorf were united in marriage in Dayton, Iowa. Lowell and Ann were blessed with two children.
He was a resident of the Ava community for the past 18 years moving from Lead Hill, Ark. Before retirement, Lowell was self-employed as an electrical contractor in Ames, Iowa, where he lived for over 40 years.
Lowell was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Ava Restoration Branch.
He enjoyed woodworking and in his younger days he loved traveling, camping and boating.
Lowell is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Russell, a sister Beverly Loy and an infant brother.
He is survived by Ann, his wife of 72 years, and a daughter, LoAnn Byers, both of Ava; a son, L. Dean and Mary Jordison, Gilbert, Iowa; five grandchildren, David Byers, Debbie Byers, Steve Jordison, Lora VanDePol, and B.J. Jordison; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Elbert and Marie Jordison, and Raymond and Betty Jordison, of Fort Dodge, Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with Elder Randy Spurlock and Elder Ike Rhoades officiating.
Interment of the cremains will follow at a later date and time.

Wanda Ellerine McGregor, 72

Wanda Ellerine McGregor, 72, a resident of Lincoln, Ark., passed away Aug. 23, 2008, at the Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, Ark.
She was born March 7, 1936 at McIntosh, S.D., the daughter of Elmer and Catherine Gabel Jameson.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, Aug. 29, at 3 p.m., at the Luginbuel Chapel in Prairie Grove, Ark., with Andy Newbill officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Luginbuel Funeral Home of Prairie Grove, Ark.
Reva Russell, 94

Reva Russell, daughter of Joseph Lambert and Vinnie (Cooley) Lambert, was born on Dec. 16, 1913, in Drury, Mo., and passed away on Aug. 24, 2008, in St. John's Hospital, Springfield, at the age of 94 years.
Reva was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of the Ava community.
On Oct. 21, 1934, Reva and Donald Bliss Russell were united in marriage in Bertha, Mo., and to this union three children were born.
Reva was a founding member of the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Ava. She also served as the church’s secretary and treasurer for several years.
Reva enjoyed fishing, gardening and going to church. She loved life and loved being with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don in 1967; a daughter, Rowena Darlene Forbes; a grandson, Gary Tetrick; one sister, Goldie Dooms; and three brothers, Clark, Archie and Ferley Lambert.
Reva is survived by one daughter and husband, Glendoris and Hase Tetrick, Brixey, Mo.; one son, Oscar Russell, Blue Grass, Iowa; a son-in-law, Bob Forbes, Mtn. Grove; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were Wednesday, Aug. 27, at 2 p.m. at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Revs. Alva Thurman, Dale Garrison and James Moore officiating.
Burial will be in Blanche Cemetery.
