Dennis Wayne Szekeres, 63, passed away Aug. 20, 2008, surrounded by family and friends.
He is survived by his father, Steve Szekeres; three children, MaryAnn Breedlove, Christine Szekeres, and Stephen Szekeres-Wagoner; one sister, Sandra Serna; two nephews, David and Michael Serna; three grandchildren, five grand-nieces and a nephew.
He was buried at Springcreek Cemetery south of Ava, with his mother, Freda Szekeres Holt, and grandmother, Verda Denny Porter, on Saturday, Aug. 23, in a private family ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to cancer research.

Augusta Lansdown, 85

Augusta (Wallace) Lansdown, 85, of Mansfield, formerly of Rock Port, Mo., passed away Aug. 16, 2008 at her daughter's home.
She was born Aug. 12, 1923 in Douglas County, Mo., and graduated from high school in Ava.
On Oct. 1, 1945, she married Ralph Russell Lansdown. He passed away in 1980.
Also preceding her in death were her parents, Albert J. and Susie J. (Pope) Wallace; a son, W. Eugene; a granddaughter; nephews Jim and Glen Wallace; and a niece Eva Wallace, whom she and Ralph raised; and several brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her sons, Luther Wallace, of Mountain Grove, Robert and his wife, Linda Lansdown, of Mansfield, Sam and his wife Linda Lansdown of Rock Port, and James and his wife Sherry, also of Rock Port; daughters, Llawanna and her husband, Bill Hampshire, of Mansfield, and Susie and her husband, Jerial Shaw of Glenwood, Iowa; a brother, Lester Wallace, of Bettendorf, Iowa; 17 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Augusta worked for a few years at the Hen House Restaurant in Rock Port.
She was a member of the Assembly of God Church.
Services were Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., at the Chamberlain Funeral Home in Rock Port.
Burial was in Hunter Cemetery.
Mavis Vanfossan Sharp, 67

Mavis (Vanfossan) Sharp, 67, formerly of Ava, died after a brief illness of lung cancer, on Aug. 13, 2008, surrounded by family in Anchorage, Alaska.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Van and Jeannie Smith, and Mike and Regina Gooley, from Thornfield; daughters, Jill Smith, Dina and son-in-law Alan Thompson, from Anchorage, Alaska; sister and brother-in-law, Connie and Bruce Taylor; stepmother June Vanfossan; stepsister and brother-in-law Jan and Jerry Hurst, all of St. Joseph; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Connie Jean Taylor; her husband, Melvin Sharp; and her mother and father, Ima and Kermit Vanfossan.
A memorial service will be held Aug. 27 at 2 p.m. at the Wyatt Park Christian Church, in St. Joseph, Mo.

Neva Piland, 99

Sarah Neva Piland, daughter of Abner Abel and Millie (Harper) Abel, was born on Nov. 26, 1908 in Squires, Mo., and passed away on Aug. 16, 2008 at Sonshine Manor in Republic, at the age of 99 years.
Neva was a resident of the Ava community for many years, moving from Ozark County. She was a homemaker.
On April 26, 1927, Neva and Lloyd "Doc" Piland were united in marriage in Ava, and to this union, three children were born.
Neva was a lifelong member of the Mt. Lebanon General Baptist Church and attended Mt. Tabor Church after moving to Ava.
She enjoyed crocheting, reading, gardening and working on the farm with her husband "Doc."
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband "Doc" in 1973, six siblings, Opal Nash, Ruth Sherrill, Zella Bowles, Burl, Earl and Fred Abel.
Neva is survived by three children and their spouses, Norma and Jack Johnson, Springfield, Fae and Nuel Thomas, Thornfield, and Gerald and Mary Ellen Piland, Republic; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held Wednesday, Aug. 20, at 2 p.m., at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with Rev. Tom Johnson officiating.
Interment followed in the Ava Cemetery.
The family requests memorials to Piland Youth Camp, Mt. Lebanon Church or to Mt. Tabor Church.
Kenneth L. Maggard, 74

Kenneth Leon Maggard, of Hermitage, Mo., passed away Aug. 27, 2008, at Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar. He suffered a massive heart attack following surgery for colon cancer.
Kenneth was born on Punkin Creek in Douglas County, July 30, 1934, the son of Cleveland and Stella (Nelson) Maggard.
Kenney grew up in western Douglas county and had many friends and family in this area.
He was married to Anna Jean Woodmansee in January 1963. To this union, one son was born, Duane Maggard. Another son, Jeff Smith, was also raised in the home.
His wife, Jeanie, preceded him in death May 9, 2008.
Besides his wife, Kenny was also preceded in death by his parents, Cleveland and Stella Maggard; a sister, Goldie Filbeck; a brother, Hosea Maggard; and a special nephew, Ronnie Maggard.
He is survived by his boys, Duane and Jeff; four sisters, Eula Shortt, Edith Maggard, Bernice Reaves and Janet Cokley and husband, Don; and two brothers, Melvin Maggard and Edwin Maggard and wife, Pauline; several nieces, nephews and many other friends and relatives.
Services were conducted by the Rev. Lee Maggard near Pleasant Hope.
Burial was in the New Bethel Cemetery.

Kenny Stout, 56

George Kenneth Stout, son of E.T. Stout and Golda Thurman Stout, was born on Dec. 16, 1951, in Mtn. Grove, and passed away on Aug. 27, 2008 in his home at the age of 56 years.
Kenny was a lifelong resident of Douglas County. He was a grader operator for Douglas County Road & Bridge for 23 years, and was currently working for Ozark County Road and Bridge for the last year and a half.
On Oct. 30, 1970, Kenny and Vicky Ann Riley were united in marriage in Gentryville, and to this union three children were born.
Kenny was a member of the Gentryville Church of God.
He enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing and working in his shop, and he loved telling stories. Kenny adored his family and especially the grandchildren. He delighted in taking his grandchildren on rides around the farm. Kenny loved people and they loved him.
Kenny was preceded in death by his father, E.T. Stout; his grandparents, Jake and Ada Stout, and George and Fila Thurman.
He is survived by his wife, Vicky Stout, of the home in Drury; three children and their spouses, Tina and Andy Boyd, Ava, Missy and Dustin Atchison, Drury, and T.J. and Courtney Stout, Norwood; his mother, Golda Stout, Nixa; 11 grandchildren; one sister and husband, Linda and Doyle Collins, Nixa; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services for Kenny were held Saturday, Aug. 30, at 2 p.m., at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with Dewayne Borders and Gary Moore officiating.
Interment followed in Blanche Cemetery.

Bobby Osburn, 66

Bobby Osburn, son of Willie Osburn and Marie Cunningham, was born on Jan. 1, 1942, in Ava and departed this life on August 28, 2008 at the age of 66 years, 7 months and 27 days old.
On Aug. 17, 1963, Bobby and Connie Sue Thomas were united in marriage, and to this union two children, Joan Hampton and Billy Osburn, were born.
Bobby especially enjoyed deer hunting and fishing.
Bobby was preceded in death by his father, Willie Osburn.
He is survived by his wife, Connie Osburn; daughter, Joan Hampton, Taneyville; son, Billy and Susan Osburn, of Ava; and two grandchildren, Eldon and wife, Melissa, and Sheri Hampton. Other survivors include his mother, Marie Osburn, Ava; three brothers, Melvin and Pat Osburn, Ava, Gale and Wanda Osburn, Oldfield, and Ronnie and Sheila Osburn, of Rogersville; and one sister, Norene and Johnny Cline, Forsyth; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Ava on Tuesday Sept. 2, at 10 a.m., with the Revs. Tom Johnson and Gale Osburn officiating.
Interment followed at the Stillings Cemetery.
Memorials may be made out to Seasons Hospice of Springfield.
Randy Wayne Wright

Randy Wayne Wright was born June 6, 1964 in San Louis Obispo, California, to Jerry Lee Wright, Sr. and Wanda Elaine (Caudle) Wright.
He departed this life Tuesday, November 8, 2011, in his home in Marshfield, Missouri, at the age of forty-seven years, six months, and seventeen days.
He is preceded in death by his siblings Debra Walker and Connie Lacy; his niece Kayla Walker and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
Randy is survived by his father Jerry Lee Wright, Sr. of Marshfield, Missouri; his mother and step-father Wanda and Gary Cuatt of Seymour, Missouri; his brothers Jerry Lee Wright, Jr. and Diane of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, and Andrew Vernon Cuatt of Seymour, Missouri; and his brother-in-law Jeffery Lacy of Rogersville, Missouri; several nieces and nephews, as well as a host of other relatives and many dear friends.
He lived in San Louis Obispo until he was nine and then moved to the Seymour area.
Randy grew to be a faithful man, committing himself to our Lord Jesus Christ and serving him as a minister for the Church of Christ in the Arkansas and Seymour areas.
Cooking was a passion since childhood, he was always mixin’ something together; this and that until it was just right. He took this talent and was a Chef for most of his life. Randy was a natural-born comedian, always ready to smile and enjoyed making others laugh. A true movie buff, Randy enjoyed gathering around with his family to see the latest releases. Randy loved music and especially enjoyed 70’s rock.
A good man, with a heart to match, Randy would do anything for anyone. He devoted his life to his family, caring for his father and spending time with friends. Just as the plants in Randy’s garden, he thrived on the love of his Father God and shared that with others.
Randy was a good and loving son, brother, uncle, and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will always treasure the wonderful memories he has created for each of us.
Visitation will be held Friday, November 11, 2011 from 5-6p.m. in the Holman-Howe Chapel in Seymour, MO. Randy had left wishes to have cremation. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Holman Howe Funeral Home, Seymour, MO.
