Herbert C. Snow, 77, of Wichita, Kan., passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008.
He retired from Mitchell-Cox Appliance Co., "Wichita’s Original Maytag Repairman."
He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Shelba Snow, and his son, Eddie Snow.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Maude Snow; four brothers, Alva, Orville, Junior and Jay Pruiett; and one sister, Bertie Nelson.
Survivors include children, Cindy (David) Wolf, Terry (Carolyn) Snow, and Tracy (Kevin) McGarey, all of Wichita, and Kevin (Karyn) Snow, of Haysville, Kan.; a brother, Bruce (Helen) Snow, of Billings; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grand-children; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation with the family present was from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday and funeral services at 1 p.m., Saturday, both at Cochran Mortuary, Wichita, Kan.
A memorial has been established with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 South Market, Wichita, Kan. 67202.

Wilma Sparkman, 82, Springfield, passed away Saturday, August 23, 2008, in Springfield.
She was born April 13, 1926, in Springfield.
Private graveside services were held Wednesday, August 27, 2008, in Payne Cemetery, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3322 S. Campbell, Suite R, Springfield, MO 65807.
James A. Ewing, 88

James Albert "Jim" Ewing went to be with the Lord on Aug. 24, 2008 in St. John’s Regional Health Center surrounded by his wife of 68 years and his family.
He was born Oct. 30, 1919 in Christian County, Missouri, the son of Albert F. and Maggie C. (Horton) Ewing.
On Nov. 25, 1940, he was united in marriage to Frances Grimmet.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, and five brothers.
A retired farmer and equipment operator, Jim was a founding member of Mound Baptist Church. His legacy as a Christian parent, grandparent, and member of the community can never be surpassed. His wish would be that all would know Christ as their personal Savior.
Jim is survived by his wife, Frances; sons and their wives, Gary and Loretta, Larry and Sharon, and Scott and Jackie; and son, Greg; daughters and husbands, Ann and Jim Mathews, and Nadia and J.E. Hull; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and three sisters-in-law, Alberta Ewing, Mildred Grimmet and Helen Ewing.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, at Mound Baptist Church, with burial following in Hall Cemetery under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Mound Baptist Church, Hall Cemetery, or a charity of choice.

John Joseph ‘Joe’ Dougherty, 76

John Joseph "Joe" Dougherty, 76, of Tecumseh, died at 2:35 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008 in Ozarks Medical Center, West Plains.
Funeral services for Mr. Dougherty will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Rose Chapel, Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today (Thursday) at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
Blanche Elliott, 84

Blanche L. Elliott, daughter of Henry Mallernee and Daisy Hutchison Mallernee, was born on March 24, 1924 in Coldsprings, Mo., and passed away on Sept. 3, 2008 in Palm Beach, Fla., at the age of 84 years.
Blanche was a retired school teacher.
On April 22, 1946, Blanche and John Dorrell Elliott were united in marriage in Mtn. Home, Ark., and to this union, a son was born.
Blanche graduated from Ava High School in 1940. She continued her education at Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar, Mo., Southwest State Teachers College and Drury College in Springfield, Mo. She obtained her master in education degree from Wichita State University, Wichita, Kan. The last 20 years of her teaching career were in Haysville, Kan.
She was a member of the Brushyknob Church in Douglas County.
Blanche was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Lyle and H.J. "Jay" Mallernee, and two sisters, Vivian Robertson and Irene Bishop.
Survivors include her husband, John Dorrell Elliott, of Mtn. Grove; a son, John D. "Chip" Elliott Jr. and his wife, Kathy, of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; a cousin and lifelong close friend, Jewell Smith, of Montana; cousins Roy Mallernee, Denlow, Mo., and Norman Anderson, Norwood, Mo.; nieces, nephews, grand nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services for Blanche were held Saturday, Sept. 6, at 2 p.m. at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with Jim Schudy officiating. Interment followed in Denlow Cemetery. Laverne Hutchison, 85

Laverne Hutchison, daughter of Clarence Bishop and Daisy (King) Bishop, was born on Feb. 24, 1923, in Vera Cruz, Mo., and passed away on Sept. 8, 2008, at Heart of the Ozarks Health Care Center, Ava, Mo., at the age of 85 years.
Laverne was a lifelong resident of Douglas County, Mo.
On Dec. 30, 1941, Laverne and Hubert Hutchison were united in marriage and to this union, four children were born.
She was retired from working 18 years at Rawlings Sporting Goods in Ava.
She was a Christian and faithfully attended the Happy Home Church.
Laverne was a member of the Bryant Flint Extension Club.
She loved gardening, quilting, gospel singing, yard sales, cooking for others, volunteering at the senior citizens and most of all she loved spending time with her family.
Laverne was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Walter Bishop; and two sisters, Opal Reed and Betty Hinman.
She is survived by four children, Carol Day and husband, Arnold, Mansfield, Mo., Anne Hutchison and Wilma Pointer, both of Mtn. Grove, Mo., and Larry Hutchison and wife, Tammy, Mansfield, Mo.; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and she was joyfully expecting her first great-great-grandchild this coming March of 2009; one sister, Pauline Winkler, Independence, Kan.; a half sister, Patsy Hinman, Fredonia, Kans.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 10 a.m., at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Revs. J.W. O'Neal and Paul Welch officiating. Interment followed in the Ava Cemetery. Visitation was Tuesday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. The family requests memorials to Gideons International.
Betty L. Souder, 82

Betty L. Souder, daughter of Leroy Simon and Edith (Metcalfe) Simon was born on May 29, 1926 in Kansas City, Mo. and went to her heavenly home on Sept. 4, 2008 at the age of 82 years.
Betty was a resident of the Ava community for several years.
On Nov. 26, 1976, Betty and Lawrence Souder were united in marriage at London Heights Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kan.
Before retirement, Betty was a secretary for Farmer's Insurance in Overland Park, Kan., and had also worked for H&R; Block. Betty was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church, Ava. Everywhere Betty was a member of a church, she joyfully played the organ. Her life with Lawrence was a blessing and they both enjoyed traveling and got to go to the Holy Land twice. Betty had said that the most beautiful place she had visited was New Zealand. They had the opportunities to attend several Billy Graham Crusades, including one in Russia.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents.
Her survivors include her husband, Lawrence Souder of Ava; four nephews, Gerald, Earl, Todd and Dennis Souder and their wives; and a special love for her great-great nieces and nephews, Coby, Nikyha and Peyton who were like her own grandchildren, and many other nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
Services for Betty were Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 10 a.m. in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with Pastor Tom Maples officiating.
Interment followed in the Souder Cemetery.
Visitation was Monday from 6 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home.

Elnora Gray Tierney, 82

Mrs. Elnora Gray Tierney, 82, died Friday, Aug. 20, 2008, in Independence, Mo.
She was born April 24, 1926 at LaJunta, Colo., the daughter of Otis and BeEtta Marsh Gray.
She and Bob Tierney were married Feb. 27, 1954, in Ozark County.
He preceded her in death in October 1992.
She was a member of Beaumont Baptist Church of Kansas City. She taught Sunday school as long as her health permitted, supported missions, and accompanied her group of girls to church camp. Mrs. Tierney was an elementary school teacher for 45 years, 10 years in the rural schools of Ozark County and 35 years for Hickman Mills Schools. She retired in 1988, then worked at a preschool for 10 years. She loved to crochet, read and especially to travel. She traveled to most of the 50 states and many foreign countries.
Mrs. Tierney is survived by one sister, Sue Robirds and her husband, Estel, of Theodosia; one brother, Fletcher Gray and his wife, Carolyn, of Pleasant Hope; two nieces; one nephew; great-nieces; great-nephews; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and one nephew.
Graveside funeral services for Elnora were held Tuesday, Aug. 26, with Bro. Dean Preuett officiating.
Burial was in the Griffith Cemetery.
